speaks to me, how he can tell me what happens wrong, how he's feeling what he wants, needs. >> reporter: robert, now 22, suffers with autism and down syndrome. >> right here. because of the plug and this is where we plugged in. >> reporter: without his ipi pa and software, a gift four years ago, he's hardly expressive, stacey says it was a tough morning today. >> he didn't sleep last flight. he kept waking up all night and it has software on it where he can touch and it will have pictures and the pictures make sounds and he identified sounds with picture. >> reporter: she called police and called apple to check on a warranty but the location service find my ipad hasn't helped so far. >> i don't have money to replace it. and i really need it. and whoever has it, if they can just give it back, turn it in. >> reporter: her message to whoever stole it -- >> i think they're heartless. it's not a toy for us.

it's how we talk to each other. other moms, their kids say mommy, daddy every day. not my son. >> reporter: police responded yesterday but there are no surveillance cameras in the apartment complex. detectives and stacey are hoping someone who knows something will come forward. cydney long, nbc 10 news. new at 6:00, two local plants closing. first, pink slips handed out to hundreds of workers in montgomery. >> planning to close two plants across the country, one locally, 400 workers only have a few more weeks on the job at east greenville plan. the company plans to close by the end of the year. quad graphics specializes in printing magazines and catalogs. employees have a chance to transfer. kraft heinz plant is closing. 400 people will lose their jobs

in the next two years. kraft and heinz merged earlier this year. now it is downsizing by closing seven plants in the u.s. and canada. lehigh county plant makes a-1 steakhouse, mustard and coffee products for keurig. new era in january at city hall in philadelphia. jim kenney laid out some vision for the city, the day after voters elected him as the next mayor. kenney taking questions at a philadelphia school. >> reporter: >> michael nutter gave him advice today. live from city hall, lauren mayk. >> reporter: good evening. jim kenney moves into the mayor's office in two months. he's still going to ride the subway, he'll be the same guy, but there are some things in the city he wants to change. at a school in south philly, the kids shook hands with the mayor-elect, questions were simple. one just wanted her chair back.

but the task ahead will be tougher. >> i'm not coming in with big promises. i'm coming in with promises that can be achieved. >> reporter: the day after the victory, jim kenney laying out plans to broaden access to pre-k education. and trust in the city's police department. >> my aspirational goal to have every parent feel comfortable enough to tell kidded it find a police officer if you need help. >> reporter: kenney has two months to set priorities, prepare to take office. we went to now-outgoing mayor michael nutter for what he can expect for you, what was harder than you thought it might be. >> well, i mean, i think there's no question that we didn't see -- no one saw the great recession coming. that was -- i mean, that was a pretty significant punch in the face if you will. >> reporter: his advice to his successor -- >> at the moment, best advice is try to figure out how to get some rest. you've been on the campaign trail for pretty much all year long and it takes its toll as well. >> reporter: but once you've

jersey. >> close to breaking record temperature. nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz joins us with his first alert forecast. how long will this last for us. >> through the rest of the week, things are changing over the weekend. we're not getting anywhere near as warm as what we got today. still have clear skies out there but of course with the sun setting earlier, it starts cooling off earlier. we don't have clouds around. so we are going to continue to cool down quickly. but we also have clouds coming up from the south. and that is going to be affecting us later tonight and tomorrow morning. i think you'll wake up to cloud cover. it's 69 degrees right now after getting up to 80 down into the 50 in some parts of the area. but temperatures incredible for this time of year. average high is 60. got to 76 yesterday. 80 today. we'll drop off tomorrow because of cloud cover and go right back up on friday. that's a pretty incredible week. and as we go through the night tonight, starting off with clear

skies. clouds, increasing later on. talk more about the chances of rain and just how much colder it's going to get over the weekend with the seven day in a few minutes. breaking news, police are investigating the death of a stolen pit bull. pspca humane law enforcement officers say the dog was take friend a yard with her puppies yesterday. today, police found her hanging olney. the puppies are still missing. day one of jury deliberations end with no verdict in the federal fraud case gengs a congressman's son. >> the jury's questions show they are carefully reviewing the huge volume of evidence. >> reporter: walking into court, chaka fattah jr. dragged a big red suitcase, to carry home weeks worth of trial documents and evidence as his future now rests in the hands of the jury. >> i'm not nervous at all.

i'm confident in the american legal system. >> reporter: fattah waited for the verdict alone without family members who have been by his side throughout the trial. after lunch the jury asked to replay an hour and a hal of secret recordings between fattah and a former friend. their recordings that the prosecutors referenced yesterday during closing arguments. >> he wants you to forget the tapes. why would you do that? >> reporter: in the portions of the recordings replayed today, jurors heard fattah talking about his penchant for gambling, 300, 500, $1,000 blackjack bets at the sugar house casino and talks about bank loans which prosecutors allege he obtained illegally. with 90 minutes of audio replayed today it's clear the jury's focusing on fattah's own words as they decide whether he's guilty or not guilty of the federal fraud charges.

reporting at the federal courthouse, george spencer, nbc 10 news. right now, medical examiner's working to identify a girl pulled from the delaware river this morning. sky force 10 over the lyndon avenue boat ramp in torresdale after 11:00. we're told a juvenile's body in the river. new at 6:00, attack in a parking lot on campus at university of delaware. university police released this surveillance video two hours ago on facebook. police say the four people in the video assaulted two students back on october 25th. officers are hoping someone knows the people in the video and comes forward. oil trains that ride through philadelphia can be dangerous. today senator casey asked two railroad companies to slow it down. casey wants csx and norfolk southern to reduce speeds to 35 miles per hour when trains travel through urban areas like philadelphia. governor wolf made the same request earlier this year and the train company said no. pennsylvania has seen a huge

increase in the number of oil trains from north dakota, about 70 trains go through the keystone state each week. today a final farewell for a man known as mr. atlantic city, hundreds packed the synagogue to honor broadcaster in atlantic city booster pinky kravitz, he passed away saturday at age 88. he hosted pinky's corn for 59 years before retiring in may. >> i think what people need to keep in mind about mr. kravitz, he was loved by an entire community and he'll be remembered forever. >> pinkie was widely known as mr. atlantic city for his constant promotion of the reg n region. a burlington county school employee attacked as he broke up a fight between students two girls into a fight monday at florence township high school when the school worker took one student away. the other allegedly hit him and knocking him to the ground and

kicking him. both girls charged with aggravated assault on a school official. the employee is recovering from his injuries. from our trenton bureau, new jersey is changing the way it prepares teachers for the classroom. the education board adopted changes to teachers' certification requirements. candidates must have a full year of student teaching before ve certified and go through a state evaluation system. recent results were a call to action to increase teacher preparedness. sticking with education, next on "nbc 10 news at 6:00," a second chance on getting into the college of your choice. a new offer for students. plus, new perk for business travelers at 30th street station. certainly not going to need the heat on, even open up your windows. how long is this warm stretch going to last? first alert forecast next.

this is nbc 10 news. >> a new perk for business travelers at amtrak's 30th street station. amtrak launched its club a sell a day pass program according to the philadelphia business journal. the program lets riders with a

business class ticket buy a $20 pass for special access to a lounge and priority boarding. the lounge includes tvs, conference rooms and food and drink. before now, amtrak only let members who reached a certain status enter the lounge. an update on the baby boy with cancer who received a potentially lethal dose of chemotherapy. >> isaac harrison's parents tell us he's critical but his condition is improving. they took the photos this morning at children's hospital of philadelphia. isaac was transferred there from st. christopher's hospital after the doctors gave isaac ten times the usual amount of chemotherapy needed to treat his rare form of cancer. his father tells us he understands why his son's situation must be troubling for other parents who have kids with cancer. >> i knew in the back of their mind they're probably wondering, wow, this can happen to him, imagine my child. i wouldn't want this happening to nobody's child.

>> for its part, st. christop r christopher's previously said administrators are deeply sorry and working on preventing something like this from happening again. teaming up to help children in need. children's hospital of philadelphia announced a partnership with mt. sinai health system in new york city. now a pediatric oncology program in several locations. the ceos say both hospitals share the same vision to give the best care available to more children. >> now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> instead of setting our clocks back an hour this past weekend, maybe we set it back a month or two. the temperatures are certainly not like november. we've been very close to record warmth today. we'll be close on friday as well. maybe even break some records. tracking some shower in the next couple of days and changes for the weekend. not 80 over the weekend. clear skies now.

69 degrees. winds south at 6:00. three degrees warmer at this time yesterday. still in the 60s across most of the area. exceptions south jersey. and in delaware. a little bit cooler air coming in off of that ocean having a little bit of influence there. and it's going to influence our weather through the night tonight and tomorrow. today up to 81 degrees, shy of the record in philadelphia. tomorrow we're going to be far away from it, because of the cloud cover. we have a bit of sunshine we'll get farther to the 70s but not 80. friday, we have a good chance of tying or breaking a record with more sunshine right ahead of a front. look at that. three days in a row, 70-plus. all right, another beauty today. but look at this moisture coming up from the south. this is generally low level moisture, atmosphere is not all that moist, at least not yet. but by later tonight clouds increase, wind is of course very

light. clouds here thicken up and then by morning, could see sprinkles out there. so it's going to be a totally different kind of day tomorrow. by 10:00 a.m., cloudy skies, showers or sprinkles during the day. even into the evening. helps keep the temperature down. but then it's going to move out. after early clouds friday morning, fog, break out in sun, temperatures go up to 80 or higher perhaps. and then here comes a front with perhaps a quick shower and then we watch and see if where that front stalls. it may stall to our south and affect delaware and south jersey. the eagles sunday, weather's good for football in dallas. not going to be especially warm. 56 in philadelphia tonight. 48 north and west. clouds coming in late tonight. you'll see those clouds tomorrow. keep the temperatures down a little bit.

between a community college and university that is also blurred for many students like her filled with deadlines and fees. but a recent agreement with stockton university hopes to eliminate all that. >> students who originally want to apply for stockton but aren't admitted because of capacity or because of gpa not being good enough -- >> reporter: second chance for students with 2.5 gpa for course of study. historic agreement for both schools. >> motivation here is obviously benefit the students as much as possible and a process that can be laborious. >> reporter: a clear decision the student hopes to make in the near future. >> you don't have to do much. take your courses and you have an easy pass to go there. >> reporter: enrollment begins in the spring, benefiting 7,000 students enrolled in transferrable credit. christian cazares. i'm danny pommells. coming up, john clark looks at key member of the dallas defense that could give eagles fits and
