of -- but first a puppy killed, one missing. >> investigators believe the hanging was no accident, and they're hoping someone knows something that can lead to an arrest. nbc's keith jones reports. >> reporter: she came into the backyard expecting to see her dogs. there are no puppies in the doghouse, the backyard light is smashed out for some reason, and when you come over to the fence, the puppy's mother is hanging. tommy thomas' heartbreak, the pitbull still hanging when we arrived. a neighbor found her this

morning. >> those were my babies, they really were. >> reporter: she lived alone with the three dogs here on north vine street. now the pitbull named mamas is dead. and her two puppies, shiba and marvelous, just three months old, kidnapped. >> i'm hurt. my stomach is flipping. i'm hurt. i'm so hurt. >> they collected the pitbull's remains and gathered the evidence, a chain. there was no witnesses, no evidence, but no doubts. the director of the humane law enforcement couldn't wrap his mind around the act. >> i can't imagine someone would do this, whether it was a revenge kind of thing, if there is a neighbor dispute thing going on that i don't know about. >> reporter: but tanya says she is well liked and has no enemies, yet thieves nabbed her two puppies. >> i don't understand why they want to hang a dog. what is the purpose of that? what do you get out of it.

crack open a bottle of a-1 steak sauce or use some grey poupon on your sandwich, think about where that product came from and the people who made it. >> these were good, solid paying, middle class jobs. >> reporter: now those jobs are gone. kraft foods, who recently merged with the heinz company, announced the close of seven plants, including the one in upper macungie who speckized in a-1 steak sauce. at least 2100 workers will be affected. in a statement the company said, we will treat our people with the utmost respect and dignity. at the appropriate time, affected employees will receive severance benefits. >> these are good-paying jobs, the kinds of jobs people can raise a family on, send kids to college. they're not the kind of jobs you want to lose and it's a big number. >> reporter: tony runs the lehigh valley of commerce. he knows this plant's closure is just the latest setback for local factories. the lehigh valley is undergoing

an economic evolution away from traditional manufacturing. >> certainly the steel industry has been ever-evolving. you have to get back up and tomorrow is a new day. and hopefully we can put these people back to work. >> reporter: the company says it could take a year, maybe even two, for this layoff to be complete, so at this point it's unclear exactly when those local jobs will be gone. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. more job cuts, this time at philadelphia's most famous newspaper with 46 people told today they're losing their jobs. layoffs were announced at the n enquirer daily news. they are helping workers find new jobs. to our weather and a live look at billy penn in the comcast center. pretty night out there. pretty soon we'll be seeing some fog in the center city and there could be some rain as well. >> meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking it. what will the morning commute look like with the weather?

>> we do expect fog and some showers around. right now we have the fog currently in new jersey and delaware mainly. that's where most of it is. northeast philly seeing a mile visibility, plus miller and doverson. we do have dense fog with quarter mile visibility. future weather is going to move in from the south overnight. some areas of fog, even a few showers for the overnight commute. this is at 8:00 in the morning, so new jersey and delaware, temperatures around 59 degrees, fog in the area with a chance of a shower. philadelphia, patchy fog possibly with a chance of a couple showers. even areas north and west, chance of a shower, temperatures by 8:00 about the mid to low 50s. it's still going to be a warm day tomorrow, though still well above normal for this time of the year. some near record highs as we end out the week. a much cooler weekend. i'll show you the numbers coming up. new at 11:00, tensions on the main line. tonight new allegations of racial profiling from police in

lower marion township. >> community members prayed for a resolution before taking their concerns to the board of commissioners. nbc 10's denise tacato is live in low. how did this get started? >> reporter: this all stemmed from a week ago following a bank robbery. a 58-year-old man waiting at a bus stop said he matched the description of a bank robber suspect, but the community says he was racially profiled. >> i'm asking for fairness and respect. >> reporter: leaders of lower marion zion baptist church stood in unity, calling on township leaders and its top cop -- >> to review policy of detention and search and seizure. >> reporter: community members say race relations took another hit about a week ago following a robbery at td bank on allison avenue on october 26.

>> the problem is some of us who live here in lower marion feel like lower class citizens. >> reporter: he was mistaken for a bank robber while waiting at a bus stop. police say the suspect's description matched his gender, glasses, height and approximate age. >> he was told to get on the ground. he waited on the ground in the kneeling position until the person came to identify him as not the one. >> that is just not right. that is excessive force. and there is no reason for that excessive force under those circumstances. >> reporter: this incident follows one earlier this year when lower marion police were accused of profiling for stopping two african-american snow shovellers working in the neighborhood. the january incident prompted police to make and adopt other policies in april, with

community policing. >> the department is trying the best we can to improve that relationship. >> reporter: the incident remains under investigation. the board of commissioners tonight did apologize to nathaniel williams for what happened to him. reporting live in lower merion, i'm deniece nakano, nbc news. police contacted the family of a missing teenage girl hours after a body was pulled from the delaware river. police have not identified the body, but they say it is an hispanic girl. the body was found near the linden avenue boat ramp this morning. the medical examiner is performing an autopsy. philadelphia mayor elect jim kenney isn't wasting any time, already working on his administration. his transition to become the city's 99th mayor officially began today. he visited a school, fitting since education and pre-education is a priority for him. we went to current outgoing mayor michael nutter who offered

this advice to his successor. >> make your decisions. most of the time hopefully you'll be right and a couple times you might have a bad call on it. move on. >> reporter: nutter also advised kenney to get some rest after all that campaigning. jurors will resume deliberating tomorrow morning in the fraud trial of fatad jr. this was the first full day of deliberations for the jury. prosecutors claim fatad jr. lied to banks to get business loans which supported his extravagant lifestyle. they also think he lied on his taxes to cover his tracks. the defendant is the son of congressman chaka fattah, who is married to renee chenault-fattah. linda westin agreed to accept a life term in a plea deal that would spare her the

death penalty. police found four adults chained in westin's basement four years ago. prosecutors say she kidnapped them and held them prisoner so she could steal their social security money. from hero to criminal. police in illinois say one of their own staged his death to cover up his crimes. investigators say illinois officer joe gliniewicz shot himself to death after staging the scene to make it look like he was killed chasing suspects. his death sparked a massive manhunt. instead police say he killed himself as pressure mounted over his management of a youth program. prosecutors say he was stealing and laundering money from the unit. his family is not commenting. the evidence is starting to point to a bomb bringing down a russian jetliner last weekend. a u.s. official says isis may be responsible for planting the explosive device that killed all 244 people on board. communications led them to that conclusion, forensic evidence

cumberland county. >> reporter: students here at this school was asked to write about drinking, sex and contracting an std. one of the problems parents had were the kids were only in the eighth grade. >> seek first to understand, then be understood. listen to people sincerely. >> those are good things. >> it's all good things from all i've read so far from the book. >> reporter: her son's book initially didn't call for alarm. it was a book called the 7 habits of highly effective teens. >> you end up having sex with this person. then you can't analyze everything. >> reporter: it talks about how a teen went to a party, got drunk and got drunk, had sex and got an std because of it. parents were not notified these specific topics would be discussed. was this in health class? >> no. it's language arts.

outfit, sheena parveen. >> and santa is going to be warm in that outfit tomorrow, especially friday, because we have some near record high temperatures in the forecast for friday, believe it or not. today we almost hit a record high. but aside from that, we're now starting to see some fog around the area, so there will be some fog for the morning commute. the chance of showers for the morning commute, too. not a lot but we could see a few, at least. near record temperatures as we go through the rest of the week, mostly as we go into friday. even tomorrow will be well above normal. tomorrow we'll have cool changes, so if you want that fall feel to come back, it will be saturday and sunday, but in the meantime, we have some warmer temperatures. today the record high was 81. we hit 80 degrees. the average is 60. we were 20 degrees above what we should be at this time of year. tomorrow the record high is 80. we expect 70 with more clouds around. friday, though, the record high is 79. we expect 80. so that could be a record high day. it's going to be unseasonably

warm. now, here's what it will be like tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning. if you're in the lehigh valley, low 50s, cloudy skies, a chance of a shower. philadelphia area, mid-50s, down to wilmington and trenton, mostly cloudy. the best areas that will see the most fog, that's going to be in delaware and new jersey, i think. be careful, take it slower on the roadways, because on those roadways we already have spots with locally dense fog. right now we're seeing low clouds move in. some rain around baltimore, a few chances responsible for the morning commute. take a look at our future fog here. some areas by early tomorrow morning. we're talking by 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 a.m., could be seeing very dense fog. the i-95 corridor, give yourself extra time tomorrow morning. here's future weather. maybe a few showers by 7:00 a.m. also. maybe a couple showers for the morning commute, too. warm air stays around for the afternoon even overnight into friday morning. tomorrow night we'll have

another round of fog, overnight showers and we keep that shower in the forecast to late friday. a cold front moves to our south on saturday, and that cooler air finally moves back in for the weekend, so both saturday and sunday will be much cooler than we've seen all week this week. tomorrow 56 the low in philadelphia, clouds moving around in the morning, and tomorrow will be a cloudy day but still mild. high of 70 degrees, a couple showers. tomorrow won't be as warm. we got to 80 degrees today, but we'll still be 10 degrees above average. friday we'll jump to 80 degrees. that could be record high temperature. 67 on saturday, 51 on sunday. that could be a record low. it centered around traumatic brain injuries and the role of football in american society. former pennsylvania governor ed rendell and former super bowl
