nbc 10 breaking news. >> right now at 6:00 we're following breaking developments in the attacks on paris. france is retaliating against isis for friday's massacre that left more than 100 people and hundreds more injured. here is what we know. the country has launched a massive series of air strikes in coordination with u.s. forces on the islamic state group's de facto capital in raqqa, syria. that's where the attacks on paris were planned. so far they've destroyed a jihadi training camp and a munitions dump. this all comes as a manhunt is under way for a suspect in the attacks. police are looking for salehed a des abdeslam.

police have made seven more arrests since friday night. i'm den nice nakano. we are also learning more about the plot to attack paris. senior iraqi officials claim france and other countries were warned thursday that an attack was imminent. jim rosenfield is in paris and he spoke to some americans who were there when the terror unfolded. >> reporter: paris is still straddling that fine line between a city still on edge and carrying on. the eiffel tower relit tonight for the first time in several days. life is far from back to normal here, but we met two americans, one from philly, the other from kansas, trying their best. a flame flickers on in this paris apartment signaling a return to a welcome routine. >> we decided to throw a dinner for our friends because that's what you do, you get together for your friends. you cook to feel better. >> reporter: that's the recipe

for calm for these two americans, one from philly, the other from kansas both working in the food and wine sector in paris. both happy to turn a page tonight after a traumatic weekend in their neighborhood. >> it was close and it was scary, and we also notice a lot of groups of young people coming on the street without really any place to go and then the sirens started. >> reporter: sirens headed to the nearby concert hall under siege friday night where one of meg's friends was inside. >> she was inside. her friend was shot and is okay. what sophie related to others is that she had to hide. she had to lie down among the people who were taken down and to play dead for several hours, which i can't even imagine what that would be like. >> reporter: unimaginable horror, yet these friends insist they're staying put. >> this is just a neighborhood with restaurants and houses and people and cafes, and if that's

the target, then there's nowhere on the planet that i would be safer or less safe unless it's under military control and i don't want to live like that. >> reporter: a resolve to live life in a city in mourning. in paris, jim rosenfield, nbc 10 news. >> here at home the french international school of philadelphia is just finishing its stand with paris vigil. the center city school has one-third of its students from french families. they say they're feeling the pain of the attacks despite being hundreds of miles away from paris. the school wanted to remember the victims and show their support for families who can't be in france right now. elsewhere in philadelphia, a host of other tributes honor the paris victims today. ♪ >> the philadelphia orchestra started their concert today with a performance of the french national anthem. they also performed the long

last night as a show of support for the french people. ♪ in center city this morning parishioners at the basilica cathedral of st. peter and paul honored the victims. >> there were sirens going for about five hours until 3:00 in the morning. there were people pretty much -- like everyone was trying to get home. >> tonight more horror stories are emerging from the survivors of the terror in paris. nbc 10's drew smith was at philadelphia international airport where more americans made the return home today following those attacks. >> this is the second round of passengers returning to philadelphia from paris since the attacks. >> i just wanted to give them a special welcome home. >> may higgins drove up from maryland to hug her daughter.

they communicated over texts during the violence. >> they were kept inside there. i think they stayed in there for five hours until they were okayed to leave. >> reporter: allison was with a group of university students. their terror continued after the bloodshed as they tried to track people down. >> classmates who were out that night, no one knew where anyone was. just kind of -- i don't know -- really chaotic. >> reporter: this new jersey couple took a ride back to their hotel just before the explosions at the stadium. >> the cab driver was on his way to the soccer game, so we may have delayed him 15 minutes. >> reporter: the day after these visitors saw an eerie france. >> i think that everyone is just kind of shocked and horrified. >> reporter: one thing everybody i talked to seemed to agree on is they won't let this stop them from returning to france. another flight departs for paris within the hour. at philadelphia international airport, drew smith, nbc 10 news. and longer lines than usual

to get into lincoln financial field today because of stepped up security for the eagles game. the nfl included the caution that all stadiums in the wake of the paris terror attacks including an explosion at a stadium. eagles fans noticed extra philadelphia police officers and homeland security. the team also held a moment of silence for the victims in paris. we will have highlights and reaction from today's game coming up in sports. and count on nbc 10 and the nbc 10 news app for your continuing coverage of the terror in paris. still ahead, a look at how parisians paid tribute to the victims of the attack today. turning now to a developing story out of philadelphia's kensington neighborhood, that's where some chairmildren made a disturbing discovery. they found the bodies of two newborn babies next to a used car lot. doug, you just learned new

investigation. >> normally the special investigation unit relies on autopsies to tell them how long those infants were there but now the medical examiner is saying those two small bodies had autopsies previously done on them by unknown medical personnel before they were dumped and detectives want to know why that was. kids on their way to get pizza weren't sure what they had found saturday night in kensington. >> both of the faces were blue. >> reporter: 9-year-old qassim thought they were toys. >> it was a doll baby. that's when they checked it and there was a baby. i went home and told my dad. >> reporter: they didn't go back until sunday morning. >> we'll check it out ourself and them call the police. when we came down here, it really was babies. >> reporter: police confirm the unsettling scene. >> two young children were walking down the street and found what appeared to be two infants on the sidewalk next to debris and trash. >> reporter: detectives said the

newborn boy and girl had not survived. one had the umbilical still attached, both had cuts on them. it hit neighbors like stephanie farrell hard. >> they're just throwing them away like trash. >> reporter: a security camera sits right above where the small bodies were found. >> shouldn't throw no kids away. you could have left them in the hospital, gave them to the fire department or knocked on my door and gave them to me. >> reporter: tonight detectives say they've gotten information about a black pickup that was scene dumping trash in the area where the small newborns were found. investigators are asking anybody with information to call philadelphia police. live at the special victims unit, i'm doug shimell, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, doug. still ahead, it's a jungle out there, at least an urban jungle. you might have spotted some zebras leading police on a wild ride in philadelphia today. >> and temperatures recover for us today. i'm also tracking more mild days and when we'll see our next chance of rain. that's all coming up in my first alert seven-day forecast.

today france held a special mass at the notre dame cathedral in paris. like most sites in the city, the church is closed to tourists, but it opened to churchgoers today. the cathedral's bells were tolled to honor the 129 people killed in the terror attacks sunday. and today world leaders held a moment of silence for the paris victims at the g-20 summit in turkey. president obama and his fellow leaders are talking about how to respond to the terror strikes. the president said today we will hunt down the perpetrators as this was an attack on all of the civilized world. coming up, it is not a typical sight you will see in west philadelphia. why two zebras led police on a wild chase this afternoon. on top of ford friends and neighbors pricing.

new at 6:00, zebras on the loose. a pair of zebras is in custody tonight after leading police on a wild chase through west philadelphia. those animals escaped from the universoul circus out the mann this afternoon. and that's why we find randy gyllenhaal. i'm sure nobody expected to see these zebras on the street. >> reporter: can you imagine driving down a crowded west philadelphia street and you see the black and white stripes running right at you? that's what happened earlier today. the two zebras ran out of the front gate at the universoul circus at the mann center. let me show you some video showing the zebras trotting along city streets. an investigation is under way to figure out how they got loose. eventually philly police were able to track them down and corral them into custody. now, there have been some animal activists protesting at the circus. they say this escape is not very

surprising. peta says they've had tigers escape from this circus in the past. the witnesses we spoke to just cannot believe what they saw on the west philly streets. >> all i saw was two cops chasing a zebra. we thought it was a horse. >> they were just running and the cops were like trying to usher them but they had no control of it. it was crazy. >> it's not funny at all. it's a really horrific experience for the zebras who probably saw a chance to escape and thought they were going to maybe get some outside time instead of being inside of a small pen and instead they end up in traffic running, terrified. >> reporter: both of those zebras are back inside the circus. tonight is the last night of the circus in philadelphia. the circus tells us the two zebras are doing okay. the protesters are demanding this circus stop using animal acts for entertainment. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news.

thousands of arts and crafts enthusiasts hung out at the pennsylvania convention center over the weekend. the museum of art craft show featured about 200 contemporary fine craft artists. they exhibit and sell museum quality work in glass, ceramics, metal, leather, and more. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. >> good evening. we saw a pretty nice end to the weekend. our temperatures about ten degrees warmer than what we saw yesterday. plus we saw lots of sunshine. we'll continue to see over the next couple days more sunshine and also mild temperatures woil stick around. we'll be above average for most of the week. i'm tracking a return of showers as we head into the rest of your workweek as well. closer look at philadelphia right now, 57 degrees. our humidity is down to 40%. light wind speeds. our feels-like temperature at 57. 51 in allentown. 50 in the poconos. 54 in wildwood. temperatures at 53 in dover.

so not too bad out there. a closer look at our 24-hour temperature change map that shows we are up 15 degrees here in the poconos, up 13 in pottstown, up about 12 degrees in atlantic city and we're up about 10 degrees in millville. so definitely a warming trend is on tap for us. our satellite radar shot shows high pressure will continue to strengthen over our region. if i widen out the shot, we'll show you we're not tracking any storms over the next couple of days, so we'll continue to see lots of sunshine. we'll stay nice and dry. tomorrow plenty of sunshine. we won't even see clouds returning until we head into tuesday. but i'm still tracking your next weathermaker. this is going to come as we get into the middle part of the workweek. so closer to wednesday night heading into thursday. this is a system you can see it developing tuesday into wednesday and then the midwest stretching down into the plains states. so some of that moisture won't reach us until thursday. so we're going to keep a close eye on that system that's going to bring the possibility of snow, even tornadoes, not for us. we'll just see showers associated with that system but it is going to bring some

powerful storms throughout parts of the country. as we head into tomorrow, our highs around the region will be even warmer than what we saw today warming to 64 degrees for philadelphia, 63 for pottstown, 64 in allen tourp. we'll stay in the 50s for the poconos but as far as tonight is concerned, mostly clear skies. our temperatures drop down to 46 degrees for philadelphia. 35 to the suburbs to the north and west. and high pressure stays in control so that means we'll see sunny skies and mild conditions. we'll range between 60 and 64 tomorrow, well above the average which is actually 56 degrees for this time of year. your seven-day forecast shows the changes start to move in as we head into wednesday. take a look at thursday, that's when the showers move in throughout most of the day and as we push into friday, our temperatures drp doop down a bi. >> i'm danny from come cast sports net. we'll show you how the eagles let a win slip through their fingers at lincoln financial.
