paris terror attacks. students clashing with police for the second time in weeks. we ask what's behind the tension. plus, a blast on temple university's campus. the split second decision that might have kept everyone safe. good evening. >> we'll have those stories in just a moment, but first we have breaking news to tell you about. two air france flights from the u.s. to paris have been diverted. you're looking at live video of flight 65 on the ground in salt lake city. that's where it was diverted to after a possible security threat was made. all the passengers were safely off loaded. there was a similar situation for air france flight 55 on its way to paris from washington, d.c. this plane was diverted.

a spokesman said the plane landed safely and the passengers and crew members were taken to a secure area. tensions were high considering the events in paris just days ago. >> jim is live in paris. good to see you. >> reporter: good to see both you have as well. another tense night and a sign of that tension earlier today. the eiffel tower was closed again because workers refusing to go to their jobs out of concerns about lack of security at that iconic tower. here is the latest. we have learned that some of the paris attackers were on a u.s. no fly list. that's what house members said after a closed door briefing by top security officials. also new today, french police say two attackers may have escaped. they said they were looking for one. a pregnant woman, you may recall this, seen dangling from a window at the theater during the

attacks is reunited with man who pulled her to safety. this video of the woman hanging from a second floor window seen by people around the world after the attacks. days after being rescued she launched a campaign on twitter to find the man and thank him. in germany police cancelled a soccer game because of a bomb threat. officers said they had concrete evidence that someone wanted to set off a bomb in the stadium. last week you recall germany's national team was playing in paris when the explosion went off outside the stadium. now to the fall out for millions of muslims. for two days we've been outside the theater where the concert were held. in those two days we have seen argumen argumen arguments breaking out. shouting matches by some willing to blame all muslims for the carnage there instead of islamic

extremists. we have found that's an undercurrent here. some who are not willing to draw that fine distinction. >> reporter: four days after the attacks. emotions are raw here. they came with friends to pay their respects to their 33-year-old friend who died. >> i came here for him, for the memory, for me too, for our friends. for brotherhood. >> reporter: in another part of town not all who live in paris a feeling that brotherhood. we met this engineering student outside of paris grand mosque where he sometimes comes to pray. >>some people say we need france

without any muslim. i want to say attacks and terrorists with islam. >> reporter: france who said to be home to the largest muslim population in western europe. after the second attack in less than a year attributed to muslim extremists, anti-muslim sentiment is on the minds of people here. >> allah, who is that? is he a killer? i'm asking with a big question. >> they were inside too and they were killed. it's not islam. >> reporter: i asked the executive deputies director of human rights watch here in paris about this kind of anti-muslim rhetoric we're hearing. it led him right back to the isis play book. listen. >> i think that the fact that europeans want to close borders and want to take up a narrative of fear mongering, scapegoating

on muslims plays into isis hands telling them those people don't want you. that's not the heaven you have envisioned. we're offering you that. >> reporter: also concerned about what he's hearing from back home in the states and the issue of states like new jersey refusing to take in anymore syrian refugees. he points out two things. when governors like chris christie say they won't take in refugees, he points out governors do not have that authority. it's federal issue and the u.s. morally and legally responsible under international law to accept refugees seeking asylum. a lot of tension and a lot of strong rhetoric. back to you. >> jim, shortly after the attacks you and nbc 10 pho photojournalist boarded a plane.

very loud boom. >> all three passengers managed to get out safely. a tonight a former choir director is charged with raping one of his middle school students. he began a relationship with a 13-year-old that lasted two years. nbc 10 reports. >> reporter: the former choir director is facing a number of charges, including 27 counts of rape. neighbors didn't think twice when officers showed up on their street. >> we thought it was a neighbor that maybe the alarm went off or something. >> reporter: it's far worse. their neighbor, 43-year-old gary smith has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student from april of 2010 to august of 2012. >> is there a concern that more children might be involved? >> i think that was indicated in the press release that if there

is anybody that thinks they have additional information that they are to call the state police. >> reporter: he used to be the choir director. he worked in the district for ten years before being put on leave in september while officers conducted their investigation. >> i'm really surprised. no clue. >> reporter: the difficult work begins to explain what's happening to students. >> it's deeply disturbing. it's a very difficult time for red clay. >> reporter: gary smith is on paid leave from the district which is standard procedure. right now he's in jail in lieu of $815,000 bond. meanwhile, more counselors will be here at the middle school tomorrow. we want you to take a look at this video. the westbound lanes of the pennsylvania turnpike remain

closed following a deadly tractor trailer accident. the driver of this truck died after crashing into the median. there is no word on what caused the crash. to delaware county now, sky force 10 over a box truck down the embankment on conchester highway. you can see one other vehicle being loaded onto a tow truck. one person was taken to the hospital. investigators are trying to determine what caused this fire. the building was evacuated. no one was hurt. the fbi has joined the search for a student.

his disappearance prompted his own college to close indefinitely. >> police are worried he could be armed. he was last seen buying bullets in our area. >> reporter: a source says he was last seen in this walmart. a surveillance camera spotted him buying a box of 12 gauge shotgun shells. enough ammunition for five rounds. police say they are not clear what he intended when he picked up a box of ammunition from walmart. that's the last time anyone has seen or heard from him. >> that's scary. it makes me want to look out for him. >> reporter: a source tells me his cell phone has not been used since investigators pinged it in the hamburg area early yesterday before he bought five rounds of shotgun shells.

andrew is a sophomore at washington college. >> there's no anger. everyone wants this solved as quickly as possible. >> reporter: police say he's despondent. >> he is a troubled young man. we hope he comes home. we hope he calls his parents. >> reporter: the situation snowballed from an october incident when he waved an unloaded antique gun while intoxicated. he got kicked out of his fraternity and recently resigned from student senate. he left campus sunday night, returned to his parents home while they were sleeping and left with a rifle case. by 7:30 this morning, his phone and surveillance video put him in hamburg. a search on the ground and at pa state police search by air

that bomb shell this morning. he talked about his health in an exclusive interview. he says now is the time to come clean since his diagnosis four years ago. he said he's spent $10 million to prevent others from spilling this news. it comes at a time for those who haven't been diagnosed with hiv and aids. it's called prep. it could be prescribed to people who have partner who is already been diagnosed. it's also for those considered high risk like someone with multiple sexual partners. >> this is definitely the new trend because we want to prevent the virus. >> prep was approved by the fda in 2010. it's become more widely used here in philadelphia.

he dropped out of the race saying it wasn't our time. jindal struggled in the polls and never qualified for any of the main republican presidential debates. the governor told reporters he's not ready to endorse another gop candidate. teens and police clashing in allentown for the second time. tensions have escalated. students say officers used excessive force but police say they have shown restraint during a volatile situation. >> reporter: yelling and screaming, police surrounding a teen on the pavement. a teenage bystander calling this excessive. all of this captured on cell phone video. across the street a teenage girl appears to wrestle and then escape from two officers. >> she didn't do nothing. >> reporter: before being taken to the ground and cuffed.

it's seen to report several more times netting seventeens arrested. allentown police called the crowd aggressive. >> number one is alarming. am i surprised by it? no. >> reporter: he says allentown police can show restraint. >> calling the students names, that's not the best way to deescalate an incident. >> reporter: this friday's sfle incident is just the latest. this was video taken outside of allen high school about 200 students watched the brawl. four officers were injured. five students were taken into custody. he points to a disconnect between students and police who make it difficult. allentown police say the officers showed a tremendous amount of restraint. >> y'all calm down and come on. >> this time around police

charged the seven teens with resisting arrest, reckless arrest and disorderly conduct. the department is investigating their officers action. some say a high school football rivalry went too far. some high school students could be punished for a banner featuring a curse word. they ended up losing the game. school officials are investigating. the district superintendent released a statement personally apologizing to the sussex tech community. a cooler day than yesterday. tomorrow won't be as cool as today. you will notice clouds increasing. temperatures back into the 60s. then we have heavy rain as we go into thursday. we could see localized flooding. several hours of rain expected.

after it clears out it will set us up for a colder weekend again. the cold air will hang around for thanksgiving week. we don't have a warm up thanksgiving week. we'll start the week this the 40s. for the rest of this week we'll start to go up. today we got to 57 compared to yesterday's 70. tomorrow it will be around 63. a little bit milder. by thursday it will be in the upper 60s. for tomorrow morning one thing you'll notice, it will be cool but you'll notice more clouds around by 8:00 a.m. temperatures in the mid-50s. by noon pretty much overcast. temperatures in the upper 50s. the rain should hold off until thursday. that's when we expect heavy rain. locally we're nice and dry. the clouds will be here tomorrow morning. they're not too far away now. the rain is still pretty far back to our west approaching tennessee up through chicago and this heavy rain will be here for most of the day thursday. for the overnight hours tonight we stay dry.

clouds increased. by the early morning hours through lunchtime more clouds start to move in. this is 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. mostly dry. by 6:00 p.m. wouldn't be surprised if areas north and west saw a few sprinkles. it's going to be thursday that we're watching. early thursday morning, 8:00, 9:00, right in time for the morning commute, the best chance of rain does look west of philadelphia. some will be heavy moving through the area by noon thursday. this heavy rain shown by the yellows and oranges will be around by the middle of the day. more moving in for the evening commute by 6:00 p.m. and then clearing starting with our western counties. that will continue as we go into thursday night. several hours of rain thursday could lead to areas with flooding. the mild air will keep moving in with the rain. once the rain leaves this cold air mass starts to move down. look at how much of the country sunday is covered with this cold air. we'll be in the 40s for a high temperature. then we go through next week. thursday this is thanksgiving day. look at this, the cold air mass is still here.

if you're wondering if we have a thanksgiving day warm up, doesn't look like. for tonight, lows will be in the 30s north and west. mid-40s philadelphia area. it will be milder tomorrow. milder thursday near 70 degrees with the heavy rain, cooler friday, 58. over the weekend we stay dry. it's going to be cold for the eagles sunday. 44 degrees. we start thanksgiving week in the 40s too. how about these guys? the sixers took some time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community the tonight the team was joined by local military members to put together some comfort kits for families in need. the kits will be handed out at schools in the areas underserved communities. sports is next.
