right now we are 40 degrees in philadelphia, but already below the freezing mark in pottstown at 31 degrees. 34 in wilmington. we have some wind and so it feels like 27 in wilmington. 29 atlantic city international. we had a few snow flurries come down from the north. you can see poconos, lehigh valley, but they have totally fallen apart. in the meantime, that area in western pennsylvania is expected to fall apart later on tonight. so it's just the temperature tonight going down into the 20s, even in the city, and closer to the teens in some of the suburbs. we'll see how much it warms up this week and when the next rain is coming for the seven day in a few minutes. breaking news right now, a car fire we're telling you about. this is on 295 north, just before the columbus exit. as you can see, the car there on the shoulder of the road, the emergency crews treating that

car, and as you can see, traffic is going slowly. again, this is 295 north before the columbus exit, a car fire. to more breaking news right now, the state department has just issued a worldwide travel alert. this is in the past 30 minutes. they say several terrorist groups, including isis, continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions, although there is no specific threat right now. this travel alert is in place just in time for the thanksgiving travel season, of course, and will last now until february. this means travelers should be extra vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities. tonight we're getting a rare glimpse at new security measures at the airport that are in place right now. new k-9s will be an extra layer to detect explosives. cydney long reports from philadelphia international airport. >> that's my partner, you know? i'm with her more than i'm with my wife. >> reporter: meet kina, the

2-year-old german short-haired pointer, one of five k-9 teams that will sniff out explosives working to keep you safe on your next flight out of philly international. >> once they get out of the truck, they are working, their nose is always working, always sniffing the air. they are trained to pick up certain explosive material, and when they do, they'll react. >> reporter: the k-9 initiative is a pilot program that began in 2011. it's now permanent. >> you'll see the dogs out there. i tell people don't be afraid of the dogs, we keep control of the dogs. >> reporter: you'll see them mostly at tsa checkpoints. >> at the checkpoints you'll see them, they may come up, sniff up and down. >> reporter: today with this demonstration, she simply sits when she smells something suspicious on a decoy. handlers can read the behavior without a subject realizing a scent is detected. >> something like a bakery or pastry shop or if you walk in, you would smell a pizza, these k-9s could walk into a pizza

busiest travel day of the year. 82,000 passengers at philadelphia international airport. wednesday, more people drive than fly. 79,000 in the air. and sunday is the busiest day with everyone going home. 92,000 people arriving and departing on sunday. new developments today in the terror in paris. >> here is the latest today, an explosive belt was found in the same place a suspect's cell phone was tracked on the day of the attacks. a street cleaner found that belt and a cell phone in a pile of rubble. about 90 minutes ago a paris official said the belt contained bolts and had the same explosives used in the attacks. also today paris police released three alerts in english with pictures of suspects linked to the attacks. one of the suspects is now one of europe's most wanted. and in belgium today, police arrested a fourth suspect in connection with with the paris attacks. belgium will remain at a heightened terror alert, schools and the subway system will

reopen on wednesday. allentown has one of the largest syrian communities in the country. today the mayor says his town will continue to welcome syrians with open arms and help them get sett settled. doug shimell reports. >> if you were coming in to do harm to this country, this is probably not the route you would take. >> reporter: terrorists disguised as refugees coming to allentown is propaganda, according to the mayor, who says he had to calm one elderly resident. >> mayor, i live in fear. and i said, what are you fearful of? she said, i'm afraid they are going to chop my head off. i said, who's going to chop your head off? she said, well, you know, those people. >> reporter: the lehigh valley has one of the largest syrian communities in the country and has resettled 44 refugees since march. >> to use them as a ploy to gain the political agenda, this is

unacceptable. >> they are coming to look for a safe place to live. they have their homes, they have their livelihoods, and it was all ripped apart and destroyed for them. >> reporter: local clergy have been overwhelmed with donations for the refugees but many are professionals in need of jobs and housing. >> landlords in the allentown area that are willing to rent for a fair market value to a family that is just arriving that is eager to put food on the table and will become employed very soon, call me. >> reporter: allentown's mayor says he will continue to welcome syrian and other refugees here, because he says without a growing immigrant population, simply put, cities die. in allentown, doug shimell, nbc 10 news. a student stabbed on the way to her apartment in logan circle. a hugger was after her bag and tonight police released video of the man wanted for that attack. the student at moore college art and design was walking sunday night when a man grabbed her from behind, punched her several times. after he couldn't get the bag

away from her, he ran towards logan square. the woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. she said she didn't even realize she was stabbed until the suspect ran away. >> new at 6:00, a south jersey contractor is accused of hitting a customer with a hammer and dousing him with lighter fluid. this morning police arrested jason brad. police say he showed up to computer tech to collect money for work he said he did. he got into an argument and that's when police say he doused his victim and hit him several times with a hammer. firefighters rescued a cat from a house fire this afternoon. sky force 10 was above the scene of the fire, which broke out on the second floor of a home on elmwood avenue. crews got it under control quickly and rescued the cat right from the roof. the animal has been turned over to the spca. a thanksgiving budget is looking unlikely in harrisburg tonight. the budget is almost five months overdue, putting schools and social services in a cash

crunch. today governor tom wolf said the framework of both sides is in peril. >> we have not made progress, so to me, that signifies we have a problem. >> nbc 10 checked with the republican house leader's office, they tell us they still consider that framework active. philadelphia students and their parents are calling on governor tom wolf to help restore low income scholarships. they protested outside the governor's office in philadelphia. there's a restriction preventing companies from using tax credits to fund the scholarships because of the budget battle. the group claims the entire state could lose $150 million, which benefits more than 45,000 scholarships. you could end up paying more taxes if you live in one bucks county town. bensalem proposed a 1% earned income tax. the vote goes before the council on december 7th.

if you don't work but collect social security or a pension, you won't have to pay it, and if you live in bensalem and work in philadelphia, you already pay the tax and won't pay anymore. the mayor said taxes have only gone up $21 over the past 22 years. let's check traffic now. $90 million and almost two days later it's a go for philly drivers along one part of i-95. today richmond street reopened north and southbound between lehigh valley. richmond street had been closed since february 2014. with good news comes some bad news. early next month the ramp to i-95 will close for 18 months. drivers on the new jersey turnpike have another place to stop. today the grover cleveland service area finally reopened more than three years after hurricane sandy destroyed it. the rest area is between exit 11 and 12. members of new jersey's

for thanksgiving day, and then it keeps warming up for friday. it's down to 31 already in pottstown, 34 in reading, 35 in glassboro, new jersey, 34 in millville and atlantic city. even 36 in dover. and by tomorrow morning, coldest morning yet, 21 in allentown, 23 in reading, 26 degrees in atlantic city. 25 in mount holly. few flurries, they sure fell apart. this area in western pennsylvania we're going to keep watching, but it's expected to fall apart once it crosses the mountains, then there's nothing else for a couple thousand miles to the west. so we're in pretty good shape for this week and travel is going to be excellent up and down the east coast on tuesday and wednesday. seasonable temperatures, no delays. now a few showers in south florida, given a few delays perhaps, but nothing too
