and family embracing and reuniting on front seats of cars and front seat corners. one girl could barely wait for the van to stop before she jumped out to hug her college friend. >> reporter: an on this thanksgiving eve night, friends and family will enjoy another tradition, catching up other drinks in old city where many spots enjoy weekend-like crowds. >> we're preparing for a regular saturday night. it's so busy. >> on a wednesday night. >> yeah. we have everybody coworking her coming in. >> reporter: it's an exciting chance to revisit old traditions and make new ones. >> i stay home at christmas but i come home every thanksgiving. i look forward to coming down here. this has been home for me. >> reporter: for a bit of

context, last year amtrak carried a record number of passengers during the overall thanksgiving travel period. that was more than three quarters of a million people nationwide and they're expecting a similar number again during this thanksgiving period. we're live tonight at 30th street station. i'm george spencer, nbc 10 news. >> so night to see all of those happy reunions. >> really nice. george, anyone invite you over while you were there? >> reporter: no. no extra thanksgiving meals, but that may be coming up as soon as i'm done with work. >> all right, george. >> george, thanks. so if you're hitting the road or going out on the town, mother nature is being really kind this thanksgiving. >> glad we're in the clear tonight. it's a great. >> reporter: yeah. it's a great tonight and a great tomorrow and beyond that a little bit. we've got a lot of sunshine today and it continues to get warmer. on monday we only got up to 43 degrees. we're 53 now.

50 in reading and allentown. the clear skies and light winds are going to allow the temperature to drop pretty quickly down to about 40 by midnight. in philadelphia, 30s in some of the suburbs. still not as cold as previous nights. for tomorrow, we're going to be not quite as cold in the morning. 39 in lehigh valley at 9:00 a.m. but by noon we're talking about near 60-degree temperatures and into the 60s across most of the area by middle of the afternoon. but the jersey shore, not quite as warm because of a wind coming in off the ocean. believe it or not, it gets even warmer than that, and then we have some weekend showers to get in. we'll get into that in a few minutes. today president obama tried to assure americans that they're

ready for any threat. >> i want everybody to know we're taking every possible step to keep our homeland safe. >> the president said u.s. law enforcement officials haven't seen any credible reports of a, quo quote, an attack on the homeland. they're monitoring threats and securing procedures heading into the busy holiday travel season. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with the pennsylvania state trooper who was shot on duty. "nbc 10 news" was there when he left the hospital. he was here when a traffic stop left to a shooting and a fiery crash. >> nbc's doug shimell was at the hospital where trooper casey said he's happy to be going home for thanksgiving. >> reporter: with a bullet still in his shoulder he walked out of

the hospital. >> want to they everybody for the prayers and support. happy go home for thanksgiving and let's go eagles. >> reporter: earlier a car he stopped to help took off and crashed into a bus, the car firing at ktrooper casey's vehicle the whole time. he was using a stolen . .45 caliber handgun and did not want the troopers to search his car. >> most of the car was burned. we don't know who what he was trying to hide. we're still working to investigate what was in the car. >> reporter: they want to investigate the fourth passenger in the car. for trooper casey, it will be rest, physical therapy, and surgery, what will be a piece of evidence from his shoulder.

at honaman hospital, doug mercer, nbc news. skyforce 10 was overthat aftermath. as you can see the cars are totaled. police are trying to figure out what caused this wreck. new information swirling around attorney general kathleen kane. they're set to remove her from office. they made the recommendation to the full office. she's running her office with a suspended law license. she was charged in august for perjury and obstruction for leaking information to the grand jury and lying under oath about it. kane released this statement. quote, today a handful of senators sought to substitute their judgment for that of more

than 3 million pennsylvania who cast their vote for the duly elected independent attorney general. she went on to say i believe this attempt to remove the attorney general from this office is unconstitutional, end quote. starting next tuesday the county says it will stop dipping into its general fund to make payments to nonprofits that provide services. those nonprofits usually receive state funding. the county has been paying out more than $3 million a month since the budget missed the deadline in july. >> we were hopeful that a budget would be passed by thanksgiving. not only is that hope dashed, but we're not sure when it's going to be passed. >> delaware county's also considering withholding more than $6 million a month in taxes and fees it collects for the state, a move bucks calle made just yesterday. he robbed a store four

months teague feed a drug habit but he now has a clean record thanks to new jersey governor chris christie. >> i hope everybody here knows they don't have to live the way i lived or the way i had to live. it there there's a better way to live. >> he served five years in jail. today governor christie congratulated berry for his 28 years of sobriety and turning his life around. >> he's a drug addict and couldn't get help and he's dead. when i sat there as the governor of new jersey at his funeral and looked across to the pew with his three data darts sobbing be he's gone, there but for the grace of god go i. >> he talked about a late friend's struggle with drug

addiction. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with a delayed thanksgiving for travelers heading to philadelphia this morning. a flight had to make an emergency landing just after takeoff. the plane reported an engine issue. all passengers got off safely and got put on other flights. a food safety alert. if you bought chicken salad at costco in the last couple of weeks, they want you to throw it away. the cdc urges even if you already ate some of that chicken and have not gotten sick, still, throw the rest away. they stopped selling it and is looking into how it got contaminated. also the costco e. coli outbreak may be more than chipotle. the fast food restaurant closed after more than a dozen people

got sick. the two outbreaks are not related. the city of chicago remains on edge this afternoon. protesters expected to take to the streets for a second consecutive night of demonstrations against police. police arrested five protesters and overnight they dismissed charges against a man charged with assault as police officer. this was after the officials released the dash cam video showing the fatal shooting of 17-year-old mcdonald. he was gunned down by officer jason van dike. the video shows him walking in the middle of the road with a night. officer van dyke approaches and with his weapon drawn he starts shooting firing 16 times. van dyke is facing murder charges. kenyans lined the streets in

nairobi to cheer pope francis. he urged kenyans to show greater sensitivity in a relationship between humans and the natural world. pope francis will visit kenya and other arias. the president pardoned the turkey. his partner honest was also spared from ending up on someone's dinner table. the two birds will spend their remaining days on a nearby farm in virginia. >> look how much those obama girls have grown up. organizers are working out the final logistics. it's one of philadelphia's oldest traditions complete with giant floats and lots of performances and a lot of little kids. it all kicks off at 8:20 a.m. in center citi. penn city looking like a

monday, 55. 62 tomorrow, 67 on friday. the average highs now down to 52. so that's 15 degrees above average for black friday. it's 50 in allentown and reading and blue bell and coatesville. just a light wind out of the east-southeast. 55 in swooezborough. everybody is wormer than they were yesterday, but with the increased wind off the ocean, it won't be quite as warm at the shore. and for your mall shopping, king of prussia on black friday at whatever stores are open. noon, 62, look how warm it is. all in the 60s. even by noon on friday. and some near record highs. allentown may have the chance of

getting to the record on friday. the record is 62. philadelphia is going to have a tough time because their record is 73. but a lot of these places are going to be pretty close, depending on how much sunshine shows up. it's been dry all week. that dryness should continue. we don't have any kind of significant moisture moving in this direction. but there is a cold front coming down and that will affect us over the weekend. we're going to have some clouds coming down. a mix of sun and cloud. same story for friday. and then here comes this front. you can tell very clearly where it is by that band of rain. by saturday morning it comes down. it stalls. creates showers for delaware.

mild weather definitely with us tomorrow and definitely with us on friday. pushing down. now, it won't be as cold, but at the same time it's not going to drive the dry air in. so we might not have a dry weekend as a result. the cold air, it's going to stay pretty far to the north and next week we're going to get some surges of warmer air, but we're going get fairly significant rain. clear but not as cold tonight. we're in the 20th. tomorrow, a mix of sun and clouds. look at that. high temperatures into the low 60s. it's about ten degrees above average and we're not expecting any kind of rain. 67 degrees. some records at least close to

it and then a chance of showers on saturday. a better chance on sunday, especially in southern sections. delve ware, south jersey, we don't have it quite as cool. we still do have it warming up next week as it gets wet again. we are live above the blue route interchange there. the blue route turnpike out toward bucks county. you can see that it looks like a normal day. you are starting to see some congestion there as the east-west turnpike and the on-ramp from the blue route starts to merge together and as as we can see from skyforce 10, you can see it coming from bucks county area and seeing starting to slow before you hit the 309 interchange there. you can see as the cars are exiting there onto the northeast extension, probably the clearest

tense moments for a demolition crew in south alabama. >> when the demolition of a smoke stack took an unexpected turn. the plan was to blow it up but after two explosive tries the landmark smoke stack would not fall. onto plan be. there it goes. bringing down a backhoe. the only problem sit toppled back onto the backhoe. he tried to swing away but the thick smoke made it hard to see.

doughnuts to police officers at the university of wisconsin. he traveled to wisconsin to see the badgers saturday. his assigned seat was away from the friends. when he tried to union his friends, he was thrown out. he sent this e-mail to police. this was meant as a harmless way to both show general gratitude for job you do but slight disdain for my treatment saturday. doughnuts are awesome, but coconut doughnuts not so awesome, he said. one of the officers replied to the man. you're exactly right. coconut doughnuts are not so awesome. it was an unfortunate misunderstanding, police donated the 240 doughnuts to the salvation army. so somebody's going to enjoy them. >> somebody will. you might not realize how quickly a fire can spread but seconds can make a difference. the nbc 10 investigators put two of the top smoke alarms to the

facebook. it's been viewed more than 25,000 times. she says she's been riding around in this 13-year-old wheel chair and is in desperate need of a new one. she said it's slowly turning our herr body into a frozen statue. >> most recently she put out a note saying if you want a new vehicle or a new vehicle would help you in your life, you know, send me, you know, your request. >> kathy says she's also hoping ellen can help her get an accessful vehicle she's able to drive. she hasn't driven in three years. a local football team has a lot to be thankful for this year. >> they're getting an all-expense paid trip to didny world after their dreaming were crushed last week. it's after the team read about the heartbreak. it changed in the middle of the season to make the game less competitive and that meant they were going to loose out to a

randomly athletic team. they said it felt like the right thing to do. the philadelphia flyers gave back this year by preparing thanksgiving dinner. more than 60 staffers peeled potatoes and diced onions. the says it's a small way to show support for the community. listen to this number of 700,000 drones will be under the christmas tree this year. the unmanned devices are easy to fly but some experts warn it's also easy to get into trouble if you don't understand the requ e required rules and regulations. they'll guide you through your liability when it comes to piloting a drone. >> now f you intention lame send your drone onto somebody else's property. you may very well be sued or liable for trespass. >> know your drones. that's sunday morning right after "meet the press" only on nbc 10.

we've got a great flying weather for any legitimate purposes over the next couple of days. it's going to keep getting warmer. we're talking about temperatures going into the 60s and friday getting even warmer than that. your record warmth in some places. and some weekend showers. some places could get some on saturday. other parts on sunday as you'll see in just a minute. traffic's going just fine. we've got dry conditions everywhere. 53 degrees with clear skies. winds at only seven miles an hour. and we're in the upper 40s to the low 50s. some 41 degrees. mt. poconos is cool. it's not going to be quite as warm at the shore during the day

tomorrow because of the wind coming in off the ocean. and you can see we're three to six degrees warmer down to the south. it's about the same yesterday because of the on shore wind but the farther you get away from the ocean t bigger the warmup has been. and this is the warmup. 50, tuesday, 55 so far today. 62 thursday and 67 degrees on friday. it doesn't just keep going up indefinitely though. we've had a dry week. we've got clear skies now. back to the west, there really isn't much moisture. there is a cold front that is going to be coming through over the weekend. there's no doubt about that. where it's going to move, how much moisture is with it, there's some questions with it. there's that flow coming in that we had on friday. generally dry. maybe some cluds at times. but here comes the showers with that front.

it's warm friday and into friday night. there could be a band of showers. that's the end of the warm weather. and then the front stalls to our south to give us the best chance of showers in delaware and extreme south jersey on sunday. now, everybody's going get into thelcáú warmer weather thursday friday. some of the colder air tries to come down over the weekend, but it's just not enough push. and so that's what's going to allow that front to staal. that's what ee going to keep the shower threat in parts of the area. but it's also not going to cause the temperatures to go burlington jing. we just can't get very cold weather for very long with this kind of a weather pattern. clear, not as cold tonight. 42 in philadelphia, 32 new york and west. during the day tomorrow, a lot
