>> ready, set, shop! black friday is here. you can count on nbc 10 to help you score the deals. killer on the loose. police say a man killed a store clerk wednesday night and this guy is still out there. unseasonably warm. you might even be able to ditch the jacket waiting in the black friday lines. how long will that warmer weather last? good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm lauren mayk. let's get to meteorologist brittney shipp with the forecast. how warm is it going to be? >> it's going to get in the mid to high 60s. so it's short lived. it's not going to stick around

into the weekend. our temperatures this weekend not as cold as what we saw last night so we saw some of that mild air hanging out. 44 degrees in philadelphia, 37 in pottstown, 36 in allentown. low 40s in wilmington.i%j cf1 o 38 in millville and temperatures in wildwood at 41 degrees. so if you plan on heading out in the next hour or so to get an early start on black friday shopping, you still need a light jacket. toward the afternoon you probably won't need it. by 9:00 a.m., 51. and take a look at the temperatures by noon. 61 degrees. we'll see sunshine. highs around the region at 67 for philadelphia, 63 in pottstown, 64 degrees in allentown. warmer than what we saw yesterday. i am tracking a few changes as we head into the weekend. we'll stay dry today but part of this system is heading our way, it's going to give us a chance of showers into saturday and sunday. i'll break down the details coming up in a full forecast but right now we want to check in with first alert traffic

reporter jessica boyington. >> already an accident on 309 right around butler pike on the southbound side. heavy police activity there. right now it looks like all lanes are blocked but we can't see traffic actually moving through. maybe we do here. but southbound side right now lanes blocked. no problems northbound 309 around butler pike again headed southbound. no problems for the rest of the drive times. okay on 95 and the schuylkill, the blue route south from the schuylkill to 95 is only 15 minutes. so still moving out there. we'll have updates on the 309 accident when i come back. well, we have barely had time to put the lustovers in the fridge but black friday is upon us. it is not the same as it used to be you don't have to venture out to get deals because of the online sales. we sent matt delucia out to the christiana mall to see if the lines are thinner this year.

matt? >> reporter: lauren, there's already a line here at the cabela's. you can see some of the folks lining up for hours the line all the way around the store here so we've got at least a couple hundred people.

who are in line. some of these dedicated people, for now we'll wrap it up here automatic now i'm live at the christiana mall. matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> some radio shack stores are open right now for black friday shopping. but all of their stores opened on thanksgiving. radio shack shut down more than half its stores and they hope to turn around years of lagging sales. in gloucester county the deptford mall will reopen at 6:00 after it was open six hours on thanksgiving night. mall employees launched a petition asking management to close on thanksgiving day. and the gloucester premium outlets welcomed shoppers, opening up at 6:00 yesterday evening and staying open until 10:00 tonight. they are an old navy outlet and gas factory. door buster deals lured some.

while the rest of us were eating. many started opening last night to get a head start. people lined up around the best buy long before it opened. anita camped out since wednesday night. she was among the first in line. >> i haven't had dinner, breakfast, lunch and working on not having dinner the next day. >> anita accomplished her mission. snagging a $150, 50-inch television. not every retailer chose to take advantage of the thanksgiving day shoppers. a growing number of businesses decided to close. so that their employees could observe the holiday. there are some things you might want to do differently this year if you are hitting the stores. first, shop around. not just store to store but online and using apps. second, black friday isn't just one day any more. many online sales tloost the holiday weekend. stores are expanding the types

the service in central paris. he has also asked residents to decorate homes in the french flag in tribute to the victims. from our jersey shore bureau, thanksgiving turns dangerous for a family when fire ripped through their home. firefighters were called to the home on richie court in brick township late yesterday afternoon. everyone made it out okay there. fire investigators are still looking into the cause. thanksgiving day is one of the busiest days for firefighters around the country. surveillance video shows the man police say shot and killed a south jersey store clerk on wednesday night. this morning investigators need your help in tracking him down. it happened at the quick and go in willingboro township wednesday night that's in burlington county. take a good look, this is a picture of a man police are looking for right now. he's wearing a stocking over his face but you can get a look. when officers got to the store, they found the 32-year-old store

employee had been shot several times. he was lying in the street and he died an hour later at the hospital. good morning. temperatures not quite as cold as what we saw yesterday. into the afternoon we'll actually be warmer than what we saw yesterday so well above average, unseasonably warm, about 6 degrees warmer this morning than this time yesterday. up 14 degrees in the poconos, up 9 degrees in atlantic city. so our temperatures are starting off in the 30s and 40s versus the 20s like yesterday. 44 degrees in philadelphia, 37 in pottstown, 41 in mill wing on the. 38 in millville. mid-40s in wildwood. our shot shows a few clouds mainly moving through the poconos. so mostly clear skies. we'll see lots of sunshine again today as high pressure continues to build to the northeast of us. we are seeing unsettled weather from the great lakes all the way back through into parts of

texas. you can see freezing rain and more of a rain/snow mix for northern texas and new mexico and parts of colorado. if you are heading back west it might be a rough commute for you. you might run into travel delays due to the weather. as we progress the model, some of these showers are going to head our way. it's going to weaken, not as strong as what you're seeing now. by tomorrow we are going to see temperatures around a little bit cooler and also a little bit of a chance of showers as we head into saturday evening. these are going to linger around. you can see this is light rainfall and then sunday morning our best chance of showers is mainly all points south philadelphia, south jersey and the central and southern parts of delaware. so, temperaturewise we're also going to cool down because we have a cold front associated with those light showers that are going to move through. as far as your black friday forecast, we see a little bit of patchy fog this morning but as we get into the next couple of

fitness retailer rei is closed today. and they are urging their customers to do something outside instead of shopping. theys are also encouraging people to share their outdoor activities on social media using the hash tag opt outside. black friday many head out to buy a christmas tree. tree lots will be open today so you can pick out a fresh cut tree. if p you want to chop down the tree you can head to one of several tree farms. some of the options to cut down your own tree include beck tree farms in hamburg or takamoni farm in new hope. haddonfield kicks off candlelight shopping. you'll find trees lit up through town. a holiday tree lighting at 6:30 followed by a parade featuring santa. there will be music and horse-drawn carriage rides.

center, it's a 15-minute video on the comcast experience video wall now in its eighth year it has become a hol say tradition. comcast is the parent company of nbc 10. you may not have known this but the day after thanksgiving is a busy day for plumbers. that's because preparing and cleaning up the turkey feast sends a lot of food and scraps down the drain and the garbage disposal. the meal puts pressure on plumbing systems as well. experts say the number of service calls double after the day after thanksgiving. a pair of nasa astronauts spent thanksgiving aboard the international space station. they celebrated the holiday with turkey and football but at zero gravity the feast for scott kelly and cal lingren included turkey, candied yams and potatoes. they ate this out of plastic pouchs. kelly who is from west orange, new jersey is in the ninth month

of his mission. >> a mix of snow, sleet and flooding has complicated travel conditions for people heading home after thanksgiving. 20 inches of snow fell in california and nearly a foot in oregon with more on the way. now this storm is set to hit the middle of the country with snow and sleet and ice and we are talking tropical downpours and potential flooding from the great lakes down to texas. let's check in with brittney shipp for a look at our weather. nothing like that. >> nothing like that. we're on the lucky side. part of the energy from that system is going to give us a chance of weekend showers on saturday and sunday. so i'll show you exactly where that system is in a bit. but let's take a closer look at our weather headlines as we head into black friday and the weekend. we are going to experience near record highs today. also weekend showers expected for us, and then you can't get used to these temperatures in the 60s, we're going to cool

things down by tomorrow. so a little bit of fog for us to start this morning in philadelphia. 44 degrees our humidity up to about 82%. the air is calm across the rest of the region, our temperatures at 36 degrees. allentown, 37 in pottstown, 41 wilmington, 40 in atlantic city, temperatures in wildwood at 45 grefs. so here is a closer look at the records that we're watching today. so the the ved the record, the yellow is the forecast, we're taking a close look at allentown where the forecast high is 63, the record is 62 for reading we could see near record heat or warmth i should say. the record is 65. the poconos also could tie the record with a forecast high of 57 and the record being 60 degrees. atlantic city about 5 degrees within the range of that record. then it's going to be about a 5-degree difference with our record in philadelphia being 73 degrees and the forecast high at 67. satellite/radar shot shows quiet

conditions, we're seeing downed visibility. here is the system so if you are heading back west today, you have layover in maybe chicago or the northern parts of texas you definitely want to probably pack your patience. you might be dealing with delays. it continues to march here to the east. there's going to be a cold front associated with this and that's going to give us a chance of showers as we head into saturday. so this is going to be closer to your late morning hours, and then once again as we head into sunday morning, another round of light rainfall. so on and off spotty, we're not expecting a lot of rain at all with this system. definitely the chance is there saturday and as we head into sunday. then you notice the temperatures really drop down between today and tomorrow about 10 degrees. >> brittany, thanks so much. sounds like your jacket may end up in your car today if you take one this morning. but will your car be in traffic? what do you think? >> on 309 it will be. i checked in with the rest of the majors, they are okay, drive times are down, everything is

nbc 10 along the parkway for the thanksgiving day parade. the philadelphia tradition features massive balloons and floats. the kids had great seats and they were bundled up for the parade. which is now in its 96th year. sometimes parade blimps can't stay on course. check on this blimp that was supposed to fly over the macy's parade. did you see it? it wandered into long island and landed in a baseball field. the blimp was supposed to promote the manhattan institute. the pilot said wind was blowing the blimp around so he had to make an unscheduled landing. >> and best in show is the skye terrier. >> check out charlie, that's the skye terrier. he won best in show at the
