>> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 6, it is one of the busiest travel days of the year, with millions hitting the roads, rails and skies to head home aftered thanksgiving weekend. we'll have a live report. first, new video in to nbc 10 shows the frightening moments a philadelphia fire truck barreling down a west philadelphia street. it crashes into several parked cars hurting firefighters. good evening. i'm denise nakano. five firefighters suffered minor injuries, fortunately no one else hurt. randy gyllenhaal joins us from 55th street and baltimore avenue. randy, any word on what caused that crash? >> reporter: denise, that is

still under investigation, but officials say this ladder truck number 13 was on its way to reports of a structure fire when it crashed here in this busy west philly neighborhood. and you can see some of the damage left behind. this is a building that got its front side taken out. the cars and debris have since been removed and this entire thing was caught on video. in the minutes before the crash surveillance video captures people walking baltimore avenue, workers are out on the sidewalk. then out of nowhere the ladder truck slides down the street and crashes into parked cars. >> boom, like a bomb. >> reporter: we'll slow that video down. truck with five firefighters inside fish tails down the street almost flipping on its side. >> and they lost control, i guess, and they took everybody. i don't know. they took out the cars. >> reporter: there were parked cars? >> and two of the firemen, one flew out of the car. >> reporter: the aftermath left

five firefighter s injured, the force of the impact ripping apart parked cars. witnesses rushed to help the injured firemen, some unconscious. >> one firefighter was transported as a trauma transport. that's a term that we use. but i just received a report from presbyterian hospital indicating that he and the other four that were transported are in stable condition. >> reporter: all are expected to be okay, and somehow nobody out in the street was hurt despite tons of metal flying toward them. >> just heard a noise, come out, looked like my car was trying to come up the steps. >> reporter: this car's owner says his ride is now totalled, but it can be replaced. he salvaged what he could. >> a few things for my son. that's about it. yeah, good thing we weren't in the car. >> reporter: incredible nobody was killed and the tow trucks getting quick a workout in west philly. crews still out here replacing metal poles knocked down along baltimore avenue. we're checking on the conditions of these firefighters. we're told four have been

released from the hospital. one will stay overnight. live in west philly, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. lappi inhappening now, a cr causing a backup on the schuylkill. take a look live at the scene. only one lane of traffic is getting by. no major problems for people on i-95. here is a live look from our camera atop the wells fargo center. traffic is heavy but moving. not all travelers are driving to their destinations tonight. nbc 10's drew smith is live at the airport. drew, tell us, are folks seeing delays tonight? >> reporter: denise, not right now for the airplanes. they've been leaving on time pretty much all day. and if you take a look up at the terminal, you can see some people entering the security line. that's where you're going to find a little bit of a delay right there because there are so many people inside. we saw a lot of cars dropping off at the departure area tonight, families saying good-bye to loved ones.

nearly 100,000 people will be arriving and departing through this airport in total today. but the airport knows this is one of the busiest days so they prepare ahead of time. all the security lines are open. they're trying to move everybody through as quickly as possible. we also spoke to many people arriving home here in philadelphia at the baggage claim. most passengers said their travel was mostly uneventful. something they weren't expecting. >> we left home in order to be there two hours ahead of time, but we really didn't need it. so we had a bite to eat and watched people come and go. it was very busy, but i think we left in a lull and we landed here it seems like in a lull. i've seen it worse than this. >> reporter: the state department had put out a worldwide travel warning after those terror attacks overseas, and we talked to passengers about that. most of them said they were comfortable flying but they did notice an increased security presence at all the airports they were at during the holiday. but so far, no issues here.

live in philadelphia international airport, i'm drew smith nbc 10 news. >> the skies aren't the only way people are getting around this holiday weekend. the rails are busy as well. here is a live look at 30th street station tonight. amtrak added extra trains and additional capacity on several routes to accommodate the expected increase in riders. they even added holiday extra trains between new york and washington today. and as you can see, 30th street station was buzzing with people trying to make their way home. >> it hasn't been terribly busy from what i've seen. but it's been easy travel, which has been nice. it can kind of go either way, and having the nice weather helps a lot. >> last year amtrak carried a record 772,000-plus passengers during the thanksgiving travel period. the most ever for the holiday. fortunately, the wench isn't impacting travel plans in our area. let ace check in with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen.

we've seen a dramatic drop in temperatures since yesterday. >> yes, we're colder than yesterday at this time. take a look at the 24-hour temperature change. this shows us how much colder we are than we were 24 hours ago. that's about 10 to 15 degrees colder across the area. 20 degrees colder right now in dover, 18 degrees colder in atlantic city. now, temperatures are already in the 30s for allentown, even pottstown, 47 right now in philadelphia, 44 in millville. it will be colder when you wake up tomorrow morning, but take a look at the picture, satellite and radar showing the clouds but not showing the rain. the rain isn't even anywhere across the northeast. light snow showers across parts of vermont possibly but other than that we are watching rain as we go into this next week. coming up, a big area of rain will give us two days of showers. coming up, i'll show you the timing on this and how cold it will be to start your week. tonight, delaware state police are trying to figure out what caused a deadly car crash in bear this morning. investigators tell us several

cars collided near red lion road at 10:15 this morning. one person was killed, five others taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. today governor tom wolf is ordering flags to fly at half-staff to honor a police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in western pennsylvania. it happened in new florence, westmoreland county last night. that's between pittsburgh and johnstown. st. claire township officer lloyd reed was responding to a domestic dispute when investigators say he was shot. the 20-year police veteran died at the scene. the suspect, 31-year-old ray shetler jr. was arrested this morning. police chased him for six hours. shetler is getting treated for a gunshot wound and remains under state police guard at the hospital tonight. he will be charged with homicide and two other charges related to the domestic dispute. no more baby parts. those rt words suspect robert

lewis dear spoke after he was arrested for a deadly shooting at a colorado springs planned parenthood clinic according to a law enforcement source. planned parenthood said dear targeted the clinic because of his anti-abortion views. back in july, anti-abortion activists released undercover videos they claim show that the group sells fetal organizers. investigators say it is too early to tell if that was his motive for friday's shooting spree that left three people dead and nine others hurt. >> there's a hate speech going on in our country right now that could be causingor more violence than we might otherwise see. >> dear is due in court tomorrow. one of those killed, officer garrett swayze gave his life trying to save others. he was a champion figure skater, a fewer of tfather of two and standout police officer. new at 6, more trouble offthe court for sixers rookie

jaleel okafor. the nain-year-old was pulled over on the ben franklin bridge for driving 108 miles per hour going more than 40 miles per hour is considering reckless driving. it is just the latest in a string of incidents involving the sixers' center. tmz released this video last week showing okafor yelling, pushing someone, and throwing a punch outside a boston nightclub. back in october, someone pulled a gun on okafor outside an old city nightclub. police are looking into both incidents. earlier this afternoon, okafor took to twitter to address these recent scandals. he said in part, i am 100% focused on my responsibility to the league, my teammates and fans. going forward, i don't want to be a distraction for my team and i'm grateful for the support and guidance those close to me are giving. chaos in paris once again. we'll tell you why police clashed with dozens of protesters today. plus, tragedy strikes a local community. how a firefighter is being

tonight a delaware county fire company is mourning the loss of one of its own. 33-year-old scott jones died if a two-car crash in edge mont early saturday morning. scott served as a firefighter and emt with the newtown square fire company for the past five years, and he had served as a marine. he also had volunteered with the aston town fire department and was a career firefighter. coming up, get ready for another round of holiday shopping. we are just hours away from cyber monday. we'll tell you how to score the best deals and steals. sheena? and i'm tracking rain as we head into this workweek.

as the international climate change summit gets under way near paris, protesters clash with police in the city. riot police fired tear gas at hundreds of activists and bus loads of people arrested. president obama left for paris this morning. he is one of nearly 150 world leaders expected to attend the historic united nations climate change summit when it gets under way tomorrow. with black friday and small business saturday behind us, it is time to look ahead to cyber monday. it is a day when millions of people will be looking for deals online. now, experts say electronics and toys are often the biggest draws, but deals can be found pretty much everywhere you look.

>> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. good evening. temperatures are dropping outside, and it's going to be colder when you wake up tomorrow morning. so you will notice that. temperatures are already dropping into the 30s for part of the area right now, and some spots will be in the 20s by tomorrow morning to start monday. there will be rain moving in as early as tomorrow evening and then for your tuesday and part of wednesday. i'll show you the timing in just a second. a cooldown ahead in the forecast once the rain leaves. right now 39 allentown, 37 in pottstown. those are the coldest spots, 47 philadelphia, 42 in bensalem, 40 in glassboro. the temperatures will be dropping from here on out. let's look at what the temperature trend is going to do. little breezy outside. but as we go closer to 11:00, dropping into the upper 30s for the philadelphia area and closer to about 7:00 a.m. we'll be in

the mid-30s for a morning low. right around sunrise is when the low temperatures will hit areas north and west. you'll be in the 20s by then. so we have the clouds around. we've seen a pretty cloudy day, pretty much all week. yesterday and today except today the rain has moved away. but now we're watching an area of rain off to the south and west, and that will be moving in as we go into this week. but most of your monday we'll be staying dry just on the cloudy side. here's future weather as we go through tonight. clouds increasing, and we'll see cloudy skies as we go into monday. so your monday will be mostly cloudy but colder temperatures in the morning. by monday evening, here's 7:00 p.m., rain mostly south of philadelphia. so we could already see rain in south jersey and delaware. this continues to move into tuesday. part of the area could see a wet tuesday commute, showers through the day tuesday afternoon, a wet evening commute, and then we go into wednesday morning. we could have showers around once again wednesday morning, especially south of philadelphia. so that's wednesday 8:00. but the good news is it does
