customers are at risk. vtech says hackers reached a database that included names, e-mail addresses, passwords, and mailing addresses from adults but no credit card or payment information was stolen. the information includes names, birth dates, and genders of kids with a vtech account. they have taken thorough actions against future attacks. today, parents, teachers, and students picketed outside a philadelphia charter school that suddenly closed. nbc 10 at education plus academy cyber charter school, the ceo of the school blames the state budget impasse for the closing. teachers were just notified that they aren't getting paid for their final three weeks of work. in the middle of the school year, students must find somewhere else to go. >> our teachers are not getting paid, our kids are just thrown out from the building, no answers, no nothing. >> this is the best school that

ever happened to me. it feels like heaven here. i had the best principal, best teachers. i love it here. i don't get bullied here. it's like heaven. >> they want us to put our kids in the public school system. the public school system failed our kids. that's why we're here now. >> last week the school shut down six of its remaining learning centers. more than 400 students were enrolled at those schools. the son of this man, dr. kermit goznell, will spend the next one to two years in prison for burglary and aggravated assault charges. he broke into a home last year. during that burglary, the home owner shot him several times. his dad, who we just showed you, is serving life in prison for killing newborn children and at least one adult. alexander dropped his father's last name claiming he couldn't get work because of his father's conviction. now a jury is seated in the

trial of a delaware police officer accused of kicking a man in the face while the man was in police custody. we want to warn you right now, you may find this next video disturbing. police released this 2013 dash cam video of dover corporal thomas webster kicking dickerson in the face while dickerson was on his hands and knees. he was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken jaw. webster's charge was second-degree assault. the jury is mostly made up of women, there isn't one black man seated on the bench. webster has pleaded not guilty. elsewhere, the man accused of opening fire on a planned parenthood office in colorado springs made his first court appearance today. the shooting left three people dead and nine injured. nbc's leann greg has the latest. >> can you hear me okay? >> yes. >> reporter: appearing before a judge via closed circuit television, robert dear was advised of the initial charge

against him. >> the initial charge against you is murder in the first degree. the penalty for that charge is minimum of life in prison and maximum of death. >> reporter: dear is accused of killing a police officer and two civilians at this planned parenthood clinic in colorado springs. the rampage set off a five-hour standoff and shootout friday that also left nine others injured. among the dead, jennifer kharc r markovsky, her father writing, life was too short for my beloved daughter. iraq veteran ke'arre stewart, at the clinic with his girlfriend who was pregnant. he stepped outside to make a phone call, was hit by gunfire, then went back inside to warn others. >> i believe that's his military instinct, i guess, that was his main priority, was to help and save other lives. >> reporter: and police officer garrett swasey, one of the first responders, remembered at the church where he was co-pastor as kind and selfless.

the former champion figure skater was a father of two. robert dear remains jailed without bond, as the investigation into the shooting continues. leeann greg, nbc news. we're learning more tonight about a western pennsylvania police officer killed in the line of duty. saint claire township officer lloyd reed was responding to a call saturday night in florence. today, officers talked about the confrontation between reed and the man charged with killing him, ray shelter jr. >> officer reed demanded several times that mr. shelter put down the firearm, drop the weapon, drop the weapon. mr. shelter engaged him in the verbal argument and advanced towards officer reed. at that point in time, there was gunfire exchanged between the two. >> officer reed died a short time later. shelter was hit in the shoulder and ran from the scene.

police found him about six hours later. he's charged with criminal homicide. a wake for reed will be held thursday. his funeral will be held friday. jury selection is under way in baltimore. it's the first trial of six police officers indicted in the death of freddie gray. officer william porter arrived for court this morning. he's charged with assault, manslaughter, and reckless endangerment. gray died in police custody in april. in the days following gray's death, thousands took to the streets of baltimore to protest. the other five officers will be tried separately. in other news, pennsylvania is now five months into a budget impasse, but governor tom wolf tells nbc 10 now he's confident there will be a deal within days. the main sticking point here is taxes. a framework agreement between the first-term democratic governor and republican-controlled legislature nearly collapsed. republicans said increasing the sales tax to plug a budget deficit and cut school project

taxes lacks support. governor wolf told nbc 10's jim rosenfield today the new plan will come together through compromise. >> this is a democracy. i don't get, just because i said i want it or some people wanted it, you have to negotiate, you have to work with the other folks in harrisburg who have been elected and that's what this budget will be, the result of those negotiations between people of different parties. >> nbc 10 has reached out to republican leadership for a response to wolf's comments but so far we haven't heard back. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane is about to name a special prosecutor to lead the investigation inside that porn e-mail saga. a spokesman for kane says she'll lay out the duties of this prosecutor and a team of others at a news conference tomorrow. the spokesman says this team will comb through public e-mail accounts after she says lewd and pornographic e-mails were exchanged between prosecutors

and judges. kane herself faces criminal allegations she leaked materials to a reporter and then lied about it. pushing for the privilege to drive. a proposed bill in the new jersey legislature would allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver's license. supporters of the bill gathered outside state president steve sweeney's office in west deptford today. the group says public transportation doesn't allow a person to go everywhere in the state. the proposed bill would only allow undocumented immigrants a license for driving, not for any other purpose. >> what we're asking is that we create a different license, which still has a point system to allow them to only legalize their driving. >> the spokesman for state senate president steve sweeney says that legislators want to know how the same effort worked in other states with similar programs. back to our investigation

this is nbc 10 news. >> a warning from the fbi prompted the university of chicago to cancel classes at its hyde park campus today. they say someone went online to post a threat of gun violence at the campus quad area. the school sent a letter asking those who would be on campus to remain indoors as much as possible. the fbi is still investigating the threat. did you see this? a bus crash left dozens of students injured as they were heading back to school after thanksgiving break, and now the driver of that bus is facing reckless driving charges. the bus lost control on a curb and overturned last night in virginia. you see those firefighters attending to the injured. the students were heading back to radford, the university of

virginia, and virginia tech. a lawyer for a college student who jumped the white house fence says his client wasn't trying to harm anyone. 23-year-old joseph caputo is expected in federal court today. caputo was draped in an american flag, you see him there in the pictures, when he scaled that fence thanksgiving day. caputo's lawyer said he had a binder with a rewritten constitution he wanted to deliver to the white house. well, we all know what that sound means after three straight losses, though, now he's on the hot seat. tonight eagles' head coach chip kelly is responding to reports about his future. comcast sportsnet's john clark is here with more on what he's saying. john, the craziest part is remarkably the eagles are still in the playoff race. >> you went there, did you, keith? >> that's right. >> you're right, technically they are with a 4-7 record, they are only one game out of first place, but the losing has brought up speculation about chip kelly's future. multiple reports say usc gauged

chip's interest, or spoke with chip, about their opening before they decided on their coach today. one report said usc met with chip on friday. another report said they spoke. the bottom line, the usc job is out of the picture now. now, there are over a dozen college jobs still open, but none of them may be attractive to chip kelly. he was asked today at his press conference about these reports. >> a lot of times we just chuckle and laugh, to be honest with you. i had a meeting in philadelphia with usc on friday. >> reporter: where were you on friday? >> i was in new hampshire. i never met with them. it's crazy. but it's really kind of sad that everybody can just write whatever they want or say whatever they want and everyone takes it as the truth. >> chip says he is concentrating on the new england patriots. he started his eagle s career with a record of 19-9.

since then they are 5-10 and have to go to new england on sunday to face tom brady and the patriots, but they could be missing some of their best players. word on that at 6:00, also a new report about jahlil okafor, we have an official response of reports he was stopped going 108 miles an hour on the ben franklin bridge. that in about an hour. i'm john clark, back to you. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, get ready for the rain to move in. it's going to be here tonight, so we will be seeing rain increasing as we go overnight tonight and it will be here for your morning commute tomorrow. not just tomorrow, but also wednesday. so expect a rainy day tomorrow and a rainy day on wednesday. make sure you have your umbrella handy, take it slower on the roadways. couple days with rainfall here and to end out the month of november, we are ending with temperatures overall about five degrees or so above normal. and going into the month of december, we'll still be above normal. 35 right now, though, in mount pocono, 34 allentown, 34 in

pottstown, 36 degrees in philadelphia, also bensalem 45, glassboro 48, so it's chilly outside, but overnight the temperatures will slowly start to rise with that rain moving in. take a look at the temperature forecast. pretty steady here until about after midnight, then a very slow temperature rise until sunrise. normally the temperature dropping to sunrise, but we're in a different pattern with the rain moving this. it's going to get milder, too. right now the clouds through most of the area, fairly dry conditions, a few sprinkles trying to form across philadelphia, but overall the moisture down to our south and south and west, so this will all be increasing overnight tonight and it will definitely be here by tomorrow morning. so take a look at future weather as we go through tonight, 10:00, 11:00, especially closer to midnight, we should see this steady lighter rain just kind of spread across the area. so again, it is going to be on the lighter side, but pretty steady for the morning commute in most spots. 8:00 tomorrow morning, pretty widespread rain, some areas

to 57 degrees, breaks in the afternoon. take your time on the roadways in the morning. heavier through part of the area for wednesday. look at the high temperature, though, 62 degrees. the average high 50, so we are starting the month of december with milder temperatures above normal, going into the weekend, though, we have a pretty nice forecast, a lot of sunshine. >> all right, sheena. at least it's not this. an ice storm leaving tens of thousands in oklahoma in the dark tonight. these pictures are just astounding. the slow moving storm also brought a deep freeze, which has many wording when their power will come back. ice covers nearly everything in this neighborhood outside oklahoma city. the ice damaged countless cars, trees, homes, as well. it even caused the governor to declare a state of emergency. back here at home, new jersey governor chris christie said he wouldn't accept them, but that's not stopping one group of syrian refugees from coming to the garden state. we'll show you which town they are set to call home.

>> tragedy inside a montgomery county home, a mother and son shot to death by the mother's live-in boyfriend. the mom and son aren't the only ones who died inside the two-story home on diamond street late last night, not to mention a young child was also in the home at the time and survived. nbc 10's deanna durante has been on the scene all day, she's live in hatfield, montgomery county. police had been out there since early this morning. what have you learned? >> reporter: they came out here after 11:00 last night when people inside the home called 911, according to sources. take a look behind me, you can see one of the shells from the rifle that was fired inside the home came from that front wall there. sources tell us casings were found on the front lawn. three people died inside that home, including the shooter. >> didn't hear a thing. that's what's so strange. >> she heard it on the news. >> didn't even know what was

going on until my daughter called. >> reporter: from next door, steve said he didn't hear the shots, he said he saw his neighbor yesterday. >> i don't believe it happened. unbelievable. >> reporter: haire says he is close to paul marshall and the extended family who live inside the home. he said he didn't know a gun was in the house. police say marshall used the gun, a semiautomatic rifle to kill his girlfriend and her 28-year-old son. marshall's daughter and grandchild were in the back of the house unharmed. police say marshall killed himself after the others. >> had their christmas lights up, i thought how nice, here we are, now it's just sad. >> i didn't expect for this to happen, they are so quiet and well mannered, they stay to themselves. it's just shocking it happened here. >> reporter: neighbors say the female victim was often seen outdoors in her garden and there was no sign of trouble in the house where the woman lived, along with her son. her day job was as a school bus driver. >> it's sad when you don't know your neighbors.

developing. temperatures right around 43 degrees. coming up a closer look at the timing of the rain and when it will finally clear up. >> all right, sheena. 40 degrees right now, the mercury continues to take a dive, new jersey's largest utility wants customers to know there is help for high bills. liheat, the low income home energy assistance program is accepting applications for the heating season. the program is run by the state and helps residents with heating and cooling bills. those eligible may receive an average of $300 toward their heating bills. a minute of silence today in paris in memory of those who lost their lives in several attacks all around the globe. u.n. secretary general ban ki-moon asked on 150 world leaders to pause and reflect before the start of the international conference on climate change. the leaders will participate in two weeks of talks aimed at a long-term plan to lessen green house gas emissions and slow global warming. president obama spoke at the

currently home to just 20 refugee families. voted to continue to accept refugees despite the governor's comments. paterson's mayor says the city already has a thriving syrian community and he hopes to meet with the families to personally welcome them. >> we will eagerly await this family of seven to arrive and do whatever we could to make their stay a pleasant stay. in other news now, congratulations are in order tonight for a local high school student. his name, aaron pascan. he attends plymouth white marsh high school. he was awarded the widener university and nbc 10 high school leadership award. this is what he did, listen to this, he started a student tutor club. now there are 30 tutors who donate their time to help teach children at a local elementary school. here at nbc 10 we'd like to offer our sincere congrats to aaron. very impressive there. the turkey has been counted.

this year's annual turkey drop raised more than 9,400 turkeys. wmgk's turkey drop is the largest one-day food drive in philadelphia. the event includes a live broadcast from love park requesting donations. all of those turkeys will go to less fortunate families in need of a holiday meal. for the past month if you're down at the jersey shore, you may have seen atlantic city police officers with some extra facial hair, but those beards are coming off tomorrow. here's why. it's part of no shave november, a nationwide fundraiser to help those with cancer. officers posed for a picture today. they say they raised more money than they could have ever expected. >> we're expecting maybe $2,000, $3,000. when i saw that we just kept gaining, it got to $5,000, $10,000, i just couldn't believe it. now we're at $23,000.

crime, also our holiday shopping gift guide for any budget. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, you'll want the umbrella for the next couple of days. we have rain moving in, even though today was dry, rain is just off to the south and it is slowly starting to approach. some areas might see sprinkles, but rain increasing through tonight. rainy tuesday and wednesday, so it's going to be couple days before we see the sunshine again, but as we end out the month of november and head into the month of december, we actually had above normal temperatures, right around five degrees above normal for november and we are going to be starting december above normal, too. we are in the mid 30s right now in mount pocono, 31 degrees pottstown. mid 40s philadelphia, glassboro, wilmington near 50 degrees. closer to the shore, so through tonight, these temperatures will slowly start to rise. nothing drastic, but they will be going up and that's going to be with the rain moving in, too.

so it's not going to get below freezing, but we are going to be watching the temperatures in the poconos, although we are seeing the clouds and rain increase. now, a few light showers, maybe just some sprinkles really trying to form through parts of abington, allentown, but not much moisture just yet. tonight we will see a lot more moisture. the rain mostly down to the south and our southwest, and this will all be moving in for the morning commute tomorrow, so remember that before you leave, take your time, you'll see the rain when you wake up. be slower on the roadways out there. as we go through tonight, here's future weather. by 11:00, the rain increasing, moving in from the south and west, so this is mostly on the lighter side. this is what the green color shows. pretty consistent, though, through the overnight hours. this continues to move through for the morning commute, but most will be light but also kind of steady. then we go through the afternoon, we could see a bit of a break, but still scattered showers around for the evening commute, but we're not done yet. more rain moving in for

wednesday morning, so that commute could, in fact, have even heavier showers. see that with the yellows and oranges, so that's wednesday 8:00 in the morning. then we go through the middle of the day wednesday, we could have heavy rain in parts of new jersey and delaware, pretty consistent through the rest of the area. not really clearing out until late wednesday night, because by 9:00 p.m. we could have showers around until that cold front actually moves through. once the cold front moves through, then we finally clear up for thursday. that's the day we'll see more sunshine, but we expect gusty winds. wouldn't be surprised if snowflakes blew in, especially the higher elevations. as we go into thursday, but until thursday, we have two days of cloud cover and rainfall. so just keep that in mind. for tonight, temperatures slowly rising, 48 for the low in philadelphia, 44 areas north and west with rain spreading across the area. then tomorrow rainy day, but milder, 54 to 57 degrees, we'll see the rain from the morning to the evening, some breaks in the rain, but by wednesday we'll have the heavier showers move

unity in the country, divided by two years of fighting between christians and muslims. he spent time with religious leaders from both sides of the conflict. back here in the united states tonight, the nfl facing some serious questions after several questionable decisions in the last few weeks. do you see that? quarterback case keenum for the rams got slammed to the ground last week, his head hit the ground hard and he continued to play, despite staggering there to get up. take a look at this hard hit. recognize malcolm jenkins, plays for the eagles, and darren mcfadden for the kou bios. jenkins didn't tell the coaches and didn't come out of the game. athletes who suffer a concussion now may not be ready to get back into the game, even though they feel better in a passed brain exam. new studies of concussion patients from the medical college of wisconsin found mri evidence of reduced blood flow to parts of the brain eight days after the injury. the study was small, including just 37 players.

officials say more research is necessary to understand all the possible implications of the decrease in blood flow. a new state of the art concussion care center is opening this week in cape may county. cape regional health system is opening a concussion care center on wednesday. it's located within the physical therapy and rehabilitation departments on the first floor of the medical center. we want to tell you about this, a local teen just won "sports illustrated" sports kids of the year rmt reese whitley was on the cover of sports illustrated kids for swimming. whitley is from montgomery county and a student at penn charter. we caught up with him and his family today at school. he said he found out he won the award weeks before it became public. he told us how hard it was to keep quiet and if the win changes anything for him. >> i mean, i don't think it was -- what? >> i think it was extremely difficult for him to keep quiet.

week ahead. >> at least the first half of the week, all the way through wednesday once this rain moves in. it's going to take a while to move out and we're going to have a lot of hours of rain. the live radar showing a couple of sprinkles in and around the philadelphia area, little bit more in extreme southern new jersey and southern delaware, and it's very, very light if anything falls during the next couple of hours. we have a little bit more significant rain across much of virginia right now, and some of that will be moving in later on during the evening hours. you can see with the future cast between 8:00 and 10:00 we really see an increase in the amount of rain, the area covered. we're not necessarily talking about real heavy rain, but hours and hours of it overnight tonight and into the morning rush tomorrow, and continuing during the day tomorrow. it's just wave after wave. generally of the lighter stuff. it's going to get
