inspector for cape may, before moving to california. leaving behind two sons and a wife in both new jersey and pennsylvania. still ahead, more footage from inside the suspects' apartment, also the growing number of women getting involved in terrorism and how they could be used to recruit others to commit violence. now to breaking news from bucks county. within the last hour a local teacher faced a judge on sex abuse charges. joseph becker is a math teacher. deanna durante was inside the courtroom, she joins us live. deanna durante, allegations involve a 14-year-old student. >> reporter: they do, becker just left here within the last ten minutes to be taken to prison, unable to post bail. prosecutors are alleging he engaged in online communication with a student at penn ridge north middle school, a 14-year-old girl, asking her to

send sexually explicit photographs and that the two communicated throughout the summer. police say the charges came to light just yesterday and they arrested becker this morning at the school where he's teaching. now, we did just speak with prosecutors who say this is an individual who was trusted with students and that is why they asked for very high bail in this case. very unusual incident happened inside the courtroom. becker addressed the judge, he said i just made a mistake, i am a good person, i care for my students and my family. i am sorry. however, he did not make any comments when he was escorted in and out of the courthouse. we will have much more on this for you, including comments from prosecutors coming up tonight at 5:00. for now we are live in warrington, bucks county, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, see you then. in new jersey right now, the federal aviation administration is investigating why a plane lost power at the millville airport today. the pilot had just taken off when he was forced to make an emergency landing. you can see in this shot from

sky force 10 that the plane landed on its belly near an adjacent taxiway. the pilot suffered only minor injuries and one passenger onboard was not hurt. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with video you will only see on 10. this fiery crash tied up traffic in burlington county for hours this morning, and now nbc 10 has learned that this was no ordinary accident. >> nbc 10's cydney long is joining us live in burlington city. the people inside that car were actually running from police? >> reporter: jim and rosemary, that's right. police tell me it was actually a theft in progress and when police pulled up, that's when the suspects jumped in their car, raced down jackson street past this busy mcdonald's and took the turn on to 130 so fast that they immediately crashed into this telephone pole. police dash cam video was rolling in the moments that two suspects fled from this crashed car along route 130 north.

within moments the car burst into flames, but the suspects were one step ahead. >> they climbed out of the vehicle, jumped the fence on to the high school property and started to run on foot. >> reporter: officer and his k-9 did the same, this is as police approached the car, but the flames were intense, as you can see by witness cell phone photos. sky force 10 also above as traffic was diverted to allow fire crews to put it out, then police got the call on the radio. >> just before that k-9 had to do the apprehension, suspect gave up and we were able to get him into custody. >> reporter: that suspect, 22-year-old ruben cruz of philadelphia, his accomplice got away after the two were involved in a car rim heist at burlington chevrolet. >> the flee out of the parking lot into the highway and put other innocent people in danger, especially when school children are ready to come to school in a few hours is really a senseless crime in any community. >> reporter: and what happened at 4:00 this morning stretched well into the afternoon. utility crews worked to replace

going to be joining us on penn's landing tonight. do they need to bundle up or what? >> temperatures are going to be dropping fairly quickly once the sun sets, but not unusual for this time of the year. we have nothing but sunshine out there now, and we've got some great weather ahead for the weekend. the temperature has been above average and it's going to stay that way. 52 so far today, but 56 saturday, 58 degrees on sunday. the average high temperature is 49, and so far every day this month has been several degrees above average. 52 in philadelphia now, 47 in pottstown, reading, lancaster, 49 in trenton. a little bit above average, but with the clear skies, light wind and low humidity, the temperature will drop quickly, so by 6:00 we're 47. 9:00, 43 degrees. at least there isn't much wind. we'll see how much warmer it's going to get and if we're going

to see rain soon with the seven day in a few minutes. >> see you then, glenn. happening now, jurors deliberating in the trial of a police officer accused of kicking a black man in the head. officer thomas webster testified yesterday he intended to kick lateef dickerson in the upper body, not his head, but dash cam video shows webster kicking dickerson during an arrest in 2013. you can see dickerson on his hands and knees. he was knocked unconscious and broke his jaw. officer webster says he feared for his safety. philadelphia police arrested a man and woman for impersonating officers and targeting people in south philadelphia. nbc 10 first told you about this story sunday night. the two are accused of flashing a fake badge to at least two people and using the fake i.d. to take wallets and steal money. both incidents happened early sunday morning. neither of the victims was hurt. now to new information on the new jersey fifth graders accused of plotting an attack at

a high school. authorities say the group of 5, 10, and 11-year-old children devised an immature and unrealistic plot to bomb clifton high school in response to a bullying incident. their device, obviously, was not flammable or dangerous. none of the children was arrested or charged, but they will undergo mandatory counseling. overseas in paris, the cafe attacked by terrorists three weeks ago is now back open for business. five people were killed and three others were injured by isis extremists in this cafe during the french terror attacks. the owner says the cafe has been repainted and redecorated to erase the visible signs of the nightmare. surveillance video from inside shows two gunmen deliberately firing into the cafe before turning their guns on people sitting at the outdoor tables. the cafe was one of several places attacked that night.

130 people died. the former frontman to the stone temple pilots and velvet revolver has died in his sleep before a tour stop in bloomington, minnesota. his current band was scheduled to perform last night but that show was cancelled. he was 48 years old, leaves behind a wife and two children from a previous marriage. an ex-fiance of charlie sheen is suing the actor saying he did not disclose he was hiv positive until after sha had sex several times. sheen publicly disclosed he was hiv positive last month. the two got engaged over a year ago, sheen's attorney says the actor will fight that lawsuit. well, on a brighter note, excitement building on the campus of temple university. >> that's right, the temple football team has really been on a roll this year and tomorrow they play in the conference championship. amy fadool joins us now from comcast sportsnet. amy, this is a big stage for the owls.

>> all right. amy fadool from comcast sportsnet, thanks so much. check this out, red hot lava shooting out of italy's famous mt. etna. you rarely see a sight like this. the intense eruption unleashed a lava flow that reached more than 3,200 feet over the volcano on wednesday. it lasted less than an hour. thousands of police officers from across the country were in western pennsylvania to remember one of their own killed in the line of duty. the funeral for lloyd reid was at the war memorial. officer reed died saturday night responding to a domestic violence call, one of three bullets fired at him hit him in an area of his chest not protected by his bullet proof vest. >> lloyd died the way that he lived, trying to help somebody. rest in peace, my friend, take over the watch from here.

>> ray shelter jr. is accused of killing officer reed saturday night. police say shetler insists he did not know reed was a police officer and fired back when reed shot at him. investigators say reed fired shot when shetler ignored commands to drop his weapons. barricade tape is keeping people away from a dangerous building in atlantic city. inspectors fear the unstable structure, which has been making cracking noises, could fall on to an empty lot next door. a neighbor notified police after hearing the sounds coming from the building. >> we have a lot of children inside this apartment building, and i would hate to see one of them walk past and get hit by something that's falling down. >> a.c. officials tell us they are working to get the building demolished soon. pennsylvania turnpike commission giving drivers a heads-up about a closure early sunday morning, an 11-mile

stretch will be shut down in both directions between the mid county tolls and exit 31 landsdale. amazon is trying to alleviate all the traffic its drivers cause when they leave their warehouse in mercer county, new jersey. the mayor had threatened legal action over the traffic in and out of amazon's facility, it gets backed up along the interstate. amazon says for the holiday season it will stagger the shifts of its associates over a 90-minute period over peak hours instead of current 30-minute time framineframes. true to its mythology, the iconic fire bird festival has risen from the ashes one year after it was burned down by vandals. arsonists destroyed the symbol before it was to be set on fire at a ceremony during the yearly event, so a team of adults and boy scouts from the community recently rebuilt the 30-foot

statue for this year's festival, which starts tomorrow. the phoenix is burned to symbolize the rebirth of the borou borough. the festival starts tomorrow at friendship field at 3:00 in the afternoon and the burning of the phoenix happens at 8:15 at night. it's wrap for the area's largest single location food drive this holiday season. camp out for hunger set up shop for five days in south philly. the tally is not in yet for this year's haul, but organizers are expecting to be the biggest in its 18-year history. last year camp out for hunger provided more than 1 million meals. great effort there. nbc 10's vai sikahema was on hand this afternoon to emcee the urban leagues whitney m. young jr. community empowerment award. michael nutter was honored for his service and passion to improve the city. whitney m. young jr. was a league leader in the 1960s who fought to end segregation. nbc 10 getting into the

buffalo and that breaks a record that goes back to 1899. what a difference a year makes. remember this? the area was covered in more than seven feet of the white stuff in what's remembered as the snow-vember storm. at least we can confirm that with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> yeah, that's absolutely right. as abnormal as our weather has been, exceptionally warm compared to average, not just buffalo, but all the way through the southern portion of canada has been exceptional, record breaking warmth compared to average. of course, it's colder than it is here, but it's supposed to be a whole lot colder in december than it has been. and, of course, snowier in buffalo. one extreme to the other. we've got chilly nights around here, but again, nothing exceptional for december. colder than it's been, but mild days, above average temperatures

continue. and a sunny weekend. we've had a lot of nice weekends, and this is going to be another one. and once again you can see the beautiful sunset taking place out there with the perfectly clear skies. 52 degrees, the wind 9 miles an hour and three degrees warmer than it was this time yesterday. we're in the 40s across most of the area. the upper 40s, though, and the average temperatures would be several degrees below that. and we've been kind of spoiled with a lot of this warmth relatively speaking for quite a while now, way more than a month, and there really is no sign of an overall major change in the pattern. temperatures a few degrees warmer than this time yesterday, but tonight with the clear skies and lighter winds, the temperature may drop lower than last night. 29 in lancaster, 29 in allentown, 28 in mount holly. those are predicted temperatures with the very light winds. dry conditions across the area.

sunshine today, and we're going to be seeing more of the same because there is not much moisture in the eastern half of the country. and that includes new england. it's going to be dry, mostly clear, little bit on the cool side, but come on, it's massachusetts in december. this is not bad at all for football, and not much wind either. so as we go through the night tonight, temperatures, of course, dropping into the 30s. even by 7:00 in some northern and western areas, and by later tonight, potentially dropping into the upper 20s. but clear skies and very little wind. so there's no wind chill to be calculated here. by tomorrow afternoon, temperatures going back up into the 50s. little bit higher than we got today. and then on sunday, we're even warmer. so it is definitely a warm

an isis affiliated news agency claimed syed farook and tashfeen malik were supporters of isis. and another alarming discoveries inside the couple's apartment today, a bomb making factory was set up in the garage. they planned to use christmas tree lights to set off explosives. today nbc news went inside the apartment with the permission of the landlord and law enforcement. >> the fbi had already took out any important evidence. nbc's kerry sanders gives us a first glimpse into the private lives of those suspects. >> let me take you over here, this is interesting. look at this bin, here you can see all types of things have been shredded, so the fbi must have decided that whatever was in here was not important, because even when documents are shredded, they can be very painstakingly put back together.

violence. nbc 10's george spencer takes a closer look at why. >> reporter: this chaos in the streets of san bernardino yesterday a possible act of terrorist and now there's words the female killer pledged allegiance to isis on facebook, that she had radicalized her american-born husband. drexel professor says women have acted as terrorists in the past but this case has a twist. >> long history of suicide bombers as women. this is an interesting phenomenon in that we have a woman that was an active shooter. >> reporter: that active role taken by tashfeen malik may be part of a renewed wave and the real possibility of female terrorists only complicates intelligence efforts to pinpoint potential terrorists before an attack occurs. >> i don't think you can profile this particular terrorist. they are coming from all socioeconomic, all religious, all ethnic, and gender.

holt will also have full coverage live from san bernardino coming up at 6:30. meantime, a final good-bye today for the campus police officer shot and killed at a colorado planned parenthood clinic a week ago. hundreds gathered for garrett swasey's funeral. this is video of the police escort taking his body from the medical examiner's office. swasey was a police officer at the university of colorado in colorado springs. he rushed to the clinic to help. robert dear is accused of killing officer swasey, mother of two, and iraqi war veteran at the clinic. nine other people were injured. dear could be facing first-degree murder charges, which carry a minimum sentence of life in prison and the possibility of the death penalty. a former soldier has pleaded guilty but has claimed he's mentally ill in relation to charges of raping and killing a delaware woman. dwight smith jr. entered his guilty plea today, smith allegedly told his father he had become, quote, addicted to

killing while serving in iraq and afghanistan. smith is accused of killing marsha lee while on leave from fort drum, new york, four years ago. smith allegedly confessed to police the attack was unplanned and random. his attorneys say that he has serious mental health issues. lee was abducted while walking her dog. prosecutors said they'll seek the death penalty for smith. at least one person was injured today during a fire in a delaware county apartment building right here. sky force 10 over this smokey scene shortly after the fire began around 7:00 this morning on chester pike in norwood. officials continue to try to figure out what caused the fire. a career fair in new jersey is aimed at attracting potential police officers. departments in gloucester, salem, and cumberland counties are looking for more diversity in their ranks. the job fair is tomorrow from 9:00 to 4:00 at the rowan university student center. if you go, bring your resume. camden county place have

we have some news just in about the death of scott weiland. police just announced cocaine was found in the tour bus bedroom where weiland was found dead. he reportedly died in his sleep before a tour stop in bloomington, minnesota, yesterday. new details coming out there. chipotle's e. coli outbreak has outreach has reached pennsylvania. the most recent illness started on november 13th. the cdc has not pinpointed exactly what ingredient is making people sick. chipotle said today it is tightening its food safety standards. women who give birth in their 30s have a greater chance of living a long life. researchers found that those who

the average high is 49. and a sunny weekend. lots of sunshine both days. and that's what we've had today. it's 52 degrees, that's the high temperature for the day. the wind 9 miles an hour. and, of course, there's no wind chill because the wind is so light. well, the temperatures have been way above that average all week, into the weekend, starting off the month of december as of today about 8 degrees above average for the month. and after the second warmest november that we've ever recorded. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s in many areas north and west. 48 in washington township, as well, mount holly is 50. places like mount holly and millville are really going to cool down fast with the clear skies and calm winds tonight. dover's 49, so is millville, and with that land breeze it's the same temperature in beach haven

as it is atlantic city airport. and tonight we're going to be seeing temperatures go down a little bit lower than last night. few clouds around and wind, so down to 29 in allentown, 30 pottstown, reading, lancaster 28 degrees in mount holly. and the dry air, now that it's here, it's going to hang around for a while. we don't really have any kind of stro strong systems. some clouds off the east coast are pretty much going to stay away, and a lot of moisture in south florida, but otherwise things are very quiet all over the eastern portion of the country, and that includes new england, where the eagles are playing on sunday afternoon. and for a december game, that is pretty nice weather for football. certainly not a factor in the game. now, the future cast showing any clouds or any kind of rain or snow, and it's just not there. there's saturday night. go into sunday, and we still

don't see much. just a few high clouds perhaps late sunday and into monday, but otherwise it is nice and sunny and it is dry for several days. you can go ahead and wash the car. 36 degrees for the low in philadelphia, 28 north and west with the clear skies and light winds. and during the day tomorrow, lots of sunshine, really pleasant day, high temperatures a few degrees warmer than today. and today was feeling fairly comfortable, because we didn't really have the wind, and we did have the sunshine. and you're going to have a similar story on sunday, up to 58 degrees, again not much wind. monday, well above average, too. we cool down a little bit on tuesday for a day, and then by the end of the week we could be back up near 60 degrees. parents thought it would make their children safer, so they came up with the money to buy a fence for their local playground. >> why is it causing so much
