this. >> reporter: detectives say a woman showed up at the police distribute claiming someone may be dead on earl street. investigators say she and another man were taken in for questioning. >> what would be the motive for something like this? things like this don't happen around this neighborhood. >> reporter: friends say kathy wilson was the block captain and active during elections. and her dancing outside fishtown polling places was legendary. >> she had heart-shaped sunglasses on. she's just a lot of fun and it's a shame. especially here in fishtown. tragedy. >> reporter: detectives say that apparently this couple knew that that money was inside kathy wilson's home and investigators say that the woman went to the 26th police district just after the murder and began to implicate the man in the crime but police again have charged both with kathy wilson's murder.

nbc 10 news. now to new information about the terror attack in san bernardino, california, authorities disclosed today active shooter training was held last year in the same conference room where last week's attack occurred. syed farook shot and killed 14 of his co-workers at the county health department along with the help of his wife. the u.s. government released a new photo of farook and his wife entering the united states last year. it was taken in customs in chicago of last year. the fbi said today the couple had been radicalized for some time and had been practicing for their attack. >> we do have evidence that both of these subjects did some target -- participated in target practice in some ranges within the metro area or within the los angeles area. >> following last week's attack homeland security is moving to

roll out a new terror alert system. homeland secretary jeh johnson says the change is needed to better inform americans. flags at allstate buildings in new jersey will be at half staff to honor the victims in san bernardino. today governor chris christie signed that executive order. donald trump tonight is ramping up his rhetoric on who can enter this country. the republican presidential candidate is now calling for all muslims to be barred from coming to the u.s. in the wake of mass shootings in san bernardino. late this afternoon trump called for a, quote, complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states. trump says his proposal is in response to hatred towards americans among large segments of the muslim population. a number of groups have been quick to condemn trump on twitter, that includes this line, breaking, cair to condemn donald trump from banning

muslims to the u.s. jeb bush writing donald trump is unhinged, his policy proposals are not serious. bernie sanders tweeting the u.s. is a strong nation when we stand together. we can weak when we allow racism and phoxenophobia to divide the u.s. now to new video from a disturbing discovery outside a mosque in north philadelphia. an employee found a severed pig's head outside the mosque. the man says he found the bloodied head this morning when he got to work. police are still looking for whoever is responsible. trump's comments and the discovery at the mosque all happened just hours after president obama asked americans to not turn against muslims here at home. tim furlong went to the school to see how teachers are talking about the situation. >> reporter: the leader of the islamic academy in newark wants everyone to know he agreed with

president obama sunday night when he said -- >> isil does not speak for islam. they are thugs and killers. part of a cult of death. >> reporter: here at this school just like any other school they have book fairs and the little kids work on their letters. >> tell me the next letter. >> reporter: here they also talk about the news and they say teachers make sure that kids know what isis is and how they try to radicalize people over social media. >> they tell them what's right, what's wrong, what's correct and what's evil. we draw the line and our children understand. >> reporter: the president says muslims in america need to be part of the solution to terrorism working with law enforcement if and when they learn members of their community are radicalizing. the leaders of this mosque tell me they work hard to learn more about members and their intentions. muscle lumps i spoke with tell me they're absolutely concerned about backlash and discrimination against them but they're more concerned about terrorism. the panel tells me like everything else scary on the internet, families, especially

muslim families, now need to talk about isis. >> we need to speak to our children in every single family as to the danger of connecting with people who may be radicalized and showing them that this is not the true faith of our religion. >> reporter: tim furlong, nbc 10 news. making it tougher to get guns in new jersey. this afternoon the state senate approved a bill that would require firearms dealers to sell personalized hand guns the same way it sells other guns. lawmakers say that bill could result in less gun violence. opponents say there shouldn't be a mandate with what retailers sell. that bill now goes to the assembly. new information about a philadelphia teacher who was attacked by several students inside his classroom. three students came to the teacher's classroom looking for one of their cell phones and started searching a female student's bag. when the teacher tried to call police, one of the students started punching him, then the

other two held down the teacher. the teacher went to the hospital with a possible concussion. two of the students are facing charges and the district says the students will likely be expelled. a bullet found inside radnor high, police and canines swept the school. once they were given the all clear the lockdown was lifted. we're still working to find out who brought the bullet to school. >> temperatures are way out of line for this time of year. how long will this weather last? >> it's already, i'll take it. i know the snow and the below freezing is going to be here before we know it. glenn hurricane schwartz joins us. >> it is going to cool down in the next couple of days but we don't have any really cold air in the forecast over the next couple of weeks. if anything it's going to get

warmer as you'll see in the 7-day. we have clouds that have moved in during the day and rain not that far away, generally moving off shore, perhaps grazing some of the delaware beaches during the next hour or two. the temperatures continue to be above average for this time of the night at this time of the year. 42 in millvale, 45 in dover and wild wood. 46 in allentown and in reading. as we go through the night tonight, we start off with clouds and then it clears up. so temperatures range from 35 in philadelphia down to 28 degrees in allentown. we'll see just how much it warms up this week and next weekend with the 7-day in a few minutes. >> one local university now one of the most expensive in the country. >> today the university of pennsylvania announced it is raising tuition by 3.9%. it will now cost more than $63,000 next year.

that is the most expensive in the history of the ivy league school. penn says many of its students are eligible for an all grant program and financial aid package. it's one small step towards ending the budget battle in harrisburg today. the pennsylvania senate approved a $30 billion general fund budget that includes an increase in school funding. the bill has to clear the house and be signed by the governor. the budget battle is closing in on six months. msnbc reports carl icahn voted to raise shares of pep boys. bridgestone is in the process of buying the auto parts chain. philadelphia police say this man burglarized stores and restaurants in the frankfurt section of the city by throwing rocks through the front windows. the crimes happened during the week of thanksgiving. officers arrested steven glemser over the weekend. one more night of traffic troubles for drivers in south

jersey tonight. demolition work is on the 295 bridge over route 42. starting at 8:00 tonight one lane will close. two lanes will close at 10:00 and all lanes will close at 11:00. follow the detour signs. all traffic will be back to normal at 5:00 in the morning. it is a date which will live in infamy. today marks 74 years since the attack on early harbor, and people from across the nation and the world are remembering those who lost their lives that day. in camden county, a ceremony paid tribute to all veterans who served. dozens came out to be recognized and show their support. about 2400 americans were killed in the attack 64 years ago. the pennsylvania state trooper shot last month in a shoot-out had his belt removed from his shoulder today. doctors had left that bullet in

trooper pat casey's shoulder. after it was removed state police took that bullet in for evidence. he was shot on the vine street expressway. a teenager is charged with attempted murder in that case. next on nbc 10 news at 6:00, an eagles victory. a police officer tosses a football with some kids. why this moment means so much to the community. we have some rain grazing the coast this evening but otherwise warm for december. i'm talking about possible record high temperatures straight ahead. my forecast is next.

to so i went out there and had a catch with him. >> reporter: but the brief time atlantic city police officer jesse oliver logan spent with some neighborhood kids playing football on sunday is being praised by a growing audience. >> i had no idea it was going to blow up like this, go viral. >> reporter: oliver logan who was recently hired as a full-time patrolman can thank the man behind the camera. >> atlantic city's finest out here with the youth, man. i don't even see grownups doing this [mute] with their kids. >> reporter: noting the interaction played out in one of the resorts worst neighborhoods, robert kelsy junior posted the video on facebook hoping it would spread. it's since been viewed more than 54,000 times. >> it was a great thing, lovely. the kids had fun. usually these kids want to run away from the cops. they actually played with them. >> i want to show them that we're not monsters and we can be liked and you can come talk to us whenever. >> reporter: he says other atlantic city police officers do the same kinds of things with

local kids. it's just in this case someone happened to catch it on camera. >> we thank the gentleman that took the video to recognize that the officers do a lot of positive things. >> reporter: oliver logan says his father, a retired atlantic city police officer, was also community-minded. >> he always told me to communicate with people and reach out. >> reporter: robert kelsy junior wrote he was pretty sure if he recorded a negative video with the police it would go viral, but he has proven it's also possible when focusing on the positive. ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >> you never know what will go viral. so many videos are catching on. >> great to see. tonight is the second night of hanukkah. >> and there was a special menorah lighting today bringing preschoolers and seniors together. the festival of lights officially began at sunset last night. today the jewish center in northeast philadelphia held a special intergenerational lighting of the menorah.

hanukkah lasts 8 nights. >> hanukkah usually comes later in december. especially it is much colder on a typical year. it is mild and it is going to get even warmer as we go through the end of the week and into next weekend. we also have some relatively dry weather around here for the next several days. we have cloudy skies at the moment but as you can see there's certainly no rain in and around philadelphia. it's 51 degrees, the winds light, 5 miles per hour, humidity not all that high. it's 4 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. we hit 57 degrees. that's 9 degrees above average. tomorrow and wednesday we cool down a little bit. then we get warmer again, thursday and especially friday. then next weekend should be even warmer than that. we're down to 38 in mount

pocono. it's not that cold at this time of year. they could use some cold weather to make snow. 46 in allentown, pottstown, reading. blue bell one of the cooler spots in pennsylvania at 43 degrees. as we go across the river it's 44 in mount holly, 45 in washington township. cooler farther to the south where the clouds are thicker like in millvale at 42, woodbine at 45 degrees right now. beach haven at 49. you can see the clouds as they've come up and the rain is not that far away from the coastline. but it continues to move a little bit to the northeast. look at the back edge of this. you can see it's moving to the east. if that back edge was not moving, we would be a little more concerned about this rain coming right up at us. we'll keep an eye on it this morning and make sure it doesn't make any kind of left turn. at the moment it does not look

like that's going to happen and the computer models continue to push it out to sea even though they may be pushing it a little too fast and far east compared to what is actually going to happen. by later tonight, this will all be gone. it's going to clear out and set us up for a nice sunny day tomorrow and we're going to be seeing temperatures going down a little bit tomorrow but they'll be going up later in the week. clouds early and clearing late tonight. 35 for philadelphia, 28 north and west. that's fairly typical for this time of the year. then for tomorrow, even though it's going to be several degrees cooler with all the sunshine and with the light winds, it should feel fairly comfortable tomorrow. then more clouds coming in on wednesday. the temperature about the same. look at the low temperatures at night going up. 57 for the daytime high on thursday. 61 on friday. then over the weekend it kind of

gets ridiculous for the middle of december we're talking about. 64 on saturday. then by the time the eagles play next sunday it's not going to feel like december. 66 degrees. that's near record levels. and the low temperatures are even above the average highs for this time of the year. the buffalo bills won't know what to do. the eagles cut a player a day after their big upset win. we're going to hear how the owner fired up the team, 6ers with a change and matt rhule signs a deal. that's next.

sportsnet. the eagles pulled off an upset. they beat the patriots in new england and nbc wants the birds back. the eagles/cardinals game has been moved to sunday night football. chip kelly cut miles austin. as much as this hurts, you got to join jerry jones and chris christie and root for the cowboys. boy, were the birds motivated last night and they played with an edge. >> super bowl chance, man. we're going to shock the world, come out. that's what we did. >> the eagles pulled off the biggest upset of chip kelly's tenure after some were questioning if he had lost his team. not so. >> jenkins is going 99 yards! touchdown! >> reporter: saturday night at the team meeting, chip wanted to remind his birds just how good they could be. he showed them all the clips of

more than a million pounds, that's how much food people donated at last week's camp out for hunger event hosted by wmmr's morning team. they delivered food on behalf of nbc 10 and all of those donations will help feed the needy. they always do such a great job. >> huge turnout there. >> we generally have that during the cold season. >> exactly. things are out of whack. >> so far we haven't had much of a cold season. temperatures today got up to 57. not quite as warm the next couple of days but then it starts warming up again toward the weekend. >> i know people want to put out the decorations and they want it to feel like winter.
