nbc 10 breaking news. a river is a street. sky 4 sent over a water main break that flooded parts of philadelphia's jude yakkic park section. >> what's happening out there now? >> reporter: let me show you something, if you come on the east side of the street, you're going to see that the barricades police have put up here. right now within just minutes, they have turned off the water. but let's show you video we shot just a few minutes ago. crews had to pry up the cover to stop it the water from gushing in the middle of the street. sky 4 gets a better view from the air. according to to the water department, a 12-inch water main broke earlier this evening. it wasn't until residents tried

to shower or wash dishes that they knew something was wrong and that their water had been turned off. >> very inconvenient. my grandchildren live with me, so we have seven in my house. so, it's inconvenient. >> reporter: now according to to the philadelphia water department, right now 15 homes are affected earlier this evening, more people were affected as they were turning off those valves, especially with low water pressure, but i'm told that should not be an issue right now. crews will not be out here to fix this water main until tomorrow morning. so if you come here on the east street between benington, this will remain closed until the whole situation is fixed. reporting live in the juniata park section, nbc 10 news. donald j. trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown, of muslims entering the united states. >> targeting islam.

a backlash on the campaign trail, and here in philadelphia. >> i hope you people are happy about what you did in france. >> the messages of hate sent to a local mosque. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. today, another insult, another one caught on surveillance video. someone threw a pig's head at the mosque's front door. nbc 10's keith jones is live in north philadelphia, keith. >> reporter: jim, the severed pig's head was found right here behind me, thrown right in front of this mosque and that's where the fbi is investigating tonight. they're looking for the truck that you're about to see in this video. from an different angle, you can see the severed pig's head land near the front door of the islamic society mosque. he admitted, the local muslim community is fearful and

philadelphia police are looking to see whether criminal charges should be filed. reporting live in north philadelphia, keith jones, nbc 10 news. republican presidential candidate donald trump has sparked another comment controversy. today, he called far total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states. >> it's going to get worse and worse, you're going to have more world trade centers. it's going to get worse and worse, folks. we can be politically correct and we can be stupid, but it's going to get worse and worse. >> trump says his proposal comes in response to a level of hatred among large segments of muslim population toward americans. >> this is outrageous. coming from someone who once assumed the high -- wants to assume the highest office in the land. it is reckless and simply un-american. >> the council on american islamic relations was among the groups that denounced trump's comments today. a number of presidential

candidates also criticized trump. thousands gathered in san bernardino, california, tonight to remember the victims of last week's deadly shooting. photos of the 14 people killed were displayed at the individualle. meanwhile, we learned new information about last wednesday's attack. authorities disclosed today, active shooter training was held last year in the same conference room where the all too real shootings happened. it's where syed farook and his wife opened fire on his coworkers at the county health department. the u.s. government released a new photo of farook and his wife sbrk the u.s. last year at chicago's o'hare airport. the couple had taken target practice at gun ranges just days before the attack, and had been radicalized for quite some time. a deadly betrayal. tonight, police say the people who murdered a neighborhood captain were supposed to be her friend. >> kathy wilson was beaten to death, her hair pulled out in clumps. and it took days to find her body at her home in fishtown.

>> we are live at police headquarters, what can you tell us about the suspects in this? >> reporter: well police say the woman that alerted this was actually behind it. she walked into the 26th police district this morning and tried to point the finger at her boyfriend, but tonight, both have been confessed to their involvement in the crime. police searched the port richmond home and grarge of 50-year-old james cheever, he robbed her of her money and her life. >> i had no idea why they want to kill her. i mean, she was the best friend i ever had. >> reporter: the other suspect, his girlfriend, jane johnson, was friends with the victim, kathy wilson, and got paid to clean her home. police say johnson learned wilson came into some inheritance, and came up with a plan to rob her on earl street. >> they go in under the premise of cleaning her house. once inside, they demanded her money. she had it hidden. >> reporter: police say what happened to the block captain can only be described as savage

and brutal. investigators say james beat wilson around her face and head with some type of wrench and pulled out her hair in clumps. >> i can't believe he did it. i can't. you know, he's always been a nice person. and he talks to everybody. you know, and i can't believe this happened. >> reporter: sources say jane johnson confess to plotting the robbery, but she was not present during the murder. >> shocked. i'm still shocked. >> reporter: police found the body on a first floor sofa. her friend gathered around her home late tonight, mourning her murder. >> i can't even fathom what she went through. just to know what they did to her. it just breaks my heart. >> reporter: police recovered late tonight the $25,000 in cash that was taken from the victim, both suspects are facing charges of robbery and murder. reporting live from police headquarters, nbc 10 news. the pennsylvania state senate has introduced a proposal that could lead to the removal of kathleen kane.

today a committee introduced a resolution that would schedule a hearing on january 12th. it would focus on whether kane could perform the duties of her office with a suspended law license. the committee would then issue a report 15 days later. kan serks facing charges that she leaked secret grand jury material and lied about turned oath. tomorrow, the trial is set to continue for a top aid to kane. patrick reese is the attorney general driver and body guard. he is accused of illegally snooping through computer files to keep tabs on the criminal investigation of his boss. his lawyers say reese wasn't aware of a court order protecting the e-mails. the results are in from tonight's emergency siren test for the limerick treatment plant. they're calling it a success, 165 sirens around were tested,

all but one worked. the plant says it will repair the siren by tomorrow. what a beautiful sight, turning to weather and a live look outside. at the museum of art, you can see the christmas tree right out front. today was really mild for december, and you know what, it's not over yet. let's bring in nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist. what can we expect tomorrow? any cold weather coming? >> it's going to be cooler than it was today, but not by a whole lot. we have cloudy skies across the area right now as the storm passes offshore. it's just grazing the jersey shore with a little bit of a light rain, but it's moving offshore. it's going to take the clouds with it too, and that's going to help lead to some cooler weather. we got up to 57 today after 50s over the weekend, the average shy 48 degrees and we're not going to be there any time soon. it's 47 degrees right now in the upper 30s to the north and west, and by the time you get up in

the morning with the clearing conditions, it will be cooling down somewhat. it will be in the 30s in philadelphia itself, maybe some upper tow in the suburbs, and then warming up to the upper 40s by noontime. but this is nothing compared to the big warm-up we're going to see by the weekend. near record warmth in the seven-day in just a few minutes. a plan to put a football stadium near temple's campus will be in the spotlight tomorrow. the university will meet to discuss whether to move forward with that plan. a live look now at lincoln financial field where the owls currently play their home games. the new plan calls for 35,000 feet, $100 million stadium in north philadelphia. temple's president calls it the next logical step, but some homeowners are not in agreement. a judge today ordered former philadelphia eagle frier and his mother to pay back more than $650,000 for their role in a mortgage scam. that's according to a report in the burlington county times.

in october, he was sentenced to five years in prison, his mother got three year's probation. he played 17 seasons in the nfl, including three with the eagles. and another former nfl star today admitted to not paying taxes in mercer county, new jersey. reaction in co. burris faces up to five years probation. as part of a plea deal. he'll also have to pay back about $56,000 from february. burris wants that nearly two years in jail for violating a weapon's law by accidentally shooting himself in the leg. now to pennsylvania's budget battle. more than five months into the stalemate, the state senate and house are in a showdown over competing spending and tax plans. today the senate passed a nearly $31 billion spending plan that could require a tax increase of more than 600 million as well as cuts to the state's pension system. well tomorrow the house could vote to improve a competing $30 billion budget bill.

new jersey's state senate has passed legislation that it hope ises will make smart guns more popular. smart guns can only be fired by authorized users. the bill would require retailers that sell guns to carry at least one smart gun in their inventory. three years after they're put on the market. more than 20 boston college students are sick tonight after eating at a chipotle restaurant in boston. tonight health officials are trying to figure out if this is all part of an e. coli outbreak. it has sickened more than 50 people in nine states. several members of boston college's basketball team are among those feeling sick tonight. two students accused of beating up a teacher at philadelphia's george washington high school have been arrested. police say two male students held teacher brian swiss down while another hit him multiple times. this comes as the school's been plagued with disciplinary problems. in response to growing concern a security plan has been devised and the district hired a climate

degrees, the winds north at trying to bring in little bit cooler air, and yeah, it'll be cooler than today's 57. down to 52 the next couple of days. then it starts going up, 57 on thursday, 61 degrees on friday, and it's not over there. it's down to 38 in redding and 37 and quakertown, 36 in coatsville. still not cold for this time of the night at this time of the year. 47 philadelphia, 41 in wilmington, 43 in washington township, 44 in ricetown. clouds are thicker right at the coast. so we have to wait until the clouds move out for milville, for example, 40 degrees to go down maybe into the upper 20s. you can see how close the rain came to the shore areas, but that storm is offshore and moving away, and drier air will continue to move in as we go through the night tonight. so that's going to set us up for a lot of sunshine tomorrow.

mild air builds up by the end of the week, it is mild and then it just gets even warmer, and it peeks next sunday, all of the east united states is exceptionally mild, near record-breaking warm for that time of year. so the clouds leaving, and then clearance side, 35 in philadelphia, 28 north and west. during the day tomorrow, we're going to be seeing a lot of sunshine, cooler than today, highs in the low 50s, still above average nor time of the year. and with the sunshine and not a whole lot of wind. it's going to feel fairly comfortable. and the seven-day forecast, another day of 52 with more clouds on wednesday. then the temperatures starts to go up, not only during the day, but also at night. look at these low temperatures, and by the weekend, the low temperatures are into the 50-degree mark, or even above by saturday, 64, by the time the eeg are also playing near
