muslim community, but they are not helping us. >> not backing down from his proposal to ban muslims from entering the united states. the republican presidential candidate defended his stance on msnbc today. trump's comments have ignited controversy and condemnation around the world. michael nutter wishes he could ban trump from the city. and look at this, the "philadelphia daily news" weighing in, comparing donald trump to adolf hitler on its cover today. nbc 10's deanna durante joins us live from our digital operations center. the mayor didn't mince words. >> he didn't, he criticized trump more than once today saying he didn't want to be in the same room with the candidate and this morning called for banning the new york billionaire from the city of philadelphia. >> donald j. trump is calling for a total and complete shut down of muslims entering the united states.

>> reporter: they are comments that have kept the presidential front runner in the spotlight. the comments have been denounced by politicians from both parties, but today a couple of mayors are taking it a step further. >> i think in recent times nothing more vile or ignorant could be said whether it's a political environment or any other environment. and certainly if i had the power to do so, the only banning that should be done is that person not being allowed in the city of philadelphia. >> reporter: mayor nutter did not mention trump by name, but the mayor of st. petersburg did when he said trump should be banned from his city. here at home republicans and democrats are not sure if they agree with the mayors or trump. >> i don't think you should ban anyone from anywhere. it's just their opinion, whether you agree or not. that's what the country is, free speech. >> reporter: we asked what voters thought of mayor nutter's

mayor nutter's entire speech regarding the controversy. we want to transition to more breaking news, this time concerning an e-mail scandal in harrisburg. a pennsylvania ethics board filed four charges against state supreme court justice michael eakin. the board says eakin violated codes of conduct by exchanging lewd and offensive e-mails with friends. the charges were filed with a disciplinary court that has the power to remove judges. the investigation began after attorney general kathleen kane submitted more than 1,000 of eakin's e-mails. kane claims her legal troubles starts when she released the e-mails. kane is facing charges, state lawmakers are deciding if kane can keep her job. meanwhile today, a judge convicted an aide to pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane of criminal contem contempt. a judge found patrick reese snooped through office e-mails in violation of a protective order. he faces up to six months in

jail. he's kathleen kane's driver and body guard. prosecutors say he went through computer files to keep tabs on the criminal investigation of his boss. switching gears now, tonight temple university's board of trustees is holding off on deciding its next step for proposing a $100 million stadium at that campus in north philadelphia. their decision to defer the vote came later this afternoon. a closer look at where the proposed stadium would be, the plan does not have final funding approval just yet, but does have plenty of critics. aundrea cline-thomas is live on temple's campus. aundrea, why did the board decide to wait to take a vote? >> reporter: as you were saying, keith, there's still not a whole lot of consensus about whether this is a good idea to begin with. to give it some context, if the trustees vote today, it would have started the ball rolling on building a new $100 million football stadium right here on campus, but this would have been

the first step in a lengthy process, but it's already been divisive both on campus and in the community. take a look, tension started to escalate as students protested and tried to get into sullivan hall where the meeting was held. only five students were allowed in. a coalition of students have joined with residents to protest building the new football stadium. among concerns is the cost and the impact on the community as it relates to noise, parking and displacement of local residents, many who they say are african-american. temple's board of trustees deferred the vote after jim kenney said he wanted to weigh in. we spoke about the issue earlier. >> i think they should be at the linc and have comparable costs associated with their use of the linc as the university of pittsburgh does out at heinz field. >> having said that, we are

we'll get coming up. >> still can't believe that, sheena, thank you. look at this, new at 5:00, watch as a man helps himself to $4,000 worth of items inside that unlocked car there in philadelphia's queen village neighborhood. he then tries to break into other cars. police say it happened a week ago in the 100 block of queens street, then bodine street. all tips are confidential. from our jersey shore bureau, police are searching for a man wanted for a home invasion robbery, and get this, one of the victims is 102 years old. this happened just before 9:00 last night on dock street in toms river, ocean county. the suspect push eed a 72-year-d woman, the suspect allegedly pushed her to the floor and yanked it away. police say the suspect demanded cash and the women gave it to him, then the guy took off. neighbors say toms river has

changed. >> it was quiet, everybody knew everybody. if anybody bothered you, eyou knew their father and mothers, not now, it's gross. >> we reached out to the victims who were shaken, but not hurt. a man hired to house sit gets arrested for downloading child pornography while on the job. this happened in camden county. prosecutors say anthony melora jr. used the internet service at the home he was watching to gather and then share the pornography. police caught him through their high-tech crimes unit. his bail is set at $150,000, full cash. tonight is your chance to listen and ask questions about a new cash-less tolling point on the pennsylvania turnpike. an online public meeting begins at 7:00. tolls will be collected automatically beginning january 3rd. if you don't have e-zpass, your license plate will be photographed and you'll get a $6.75 bill in the mail.

there in houston, texas. we want to show you this new picture, shows one of the san bernardino shooting victims receiving an award before the gunfire began. julie paez was shot four times and survived by playing dead. jay gray has the very latest. >> reporter: witnesses say syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik spent hours shooting at los angeles area gun ranges just days before the attack. we now know more than $28,000 was recently deposited in the couple's bank account, investigators want to know where it came from and why. >> we want to find out everyone who participated in the preplanning, if there was anyone else, we don't know everything yet. >> reporter: he's not considered a suspect still, agents continue to question enrique marquez, the former neighbor who agreed to purchase two assault rifles for farook, weapons used in the attack and investigators are interested in a number of people

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, today is the coolest day out of the week. we will see pretty nice warming trend, but for tonight in the meantime, chilly, temperatures dropping down to the 30s, maybe even 20s for part of the area, but we do begin to warm up more than we have this afternoon into tomorrow, then by the end of this week and especially into the weekend. now across the weekend, there's a chance we could see some record high temperatures. just in time for the army/navy game and the eagles game is going to be unseasonably warm. right now upper 30s for allentown, poconos, upper 40s for philadelphia, upper 30s in millville, so we are starting to cool down quite a bit. 32 degrees in wilmington, 44 in dover, and outside looks pretty nice. live look at center city as the skies are getting darker and temperatures are dropping off faster, too. by 9:00 tonight, philadelphia area should already be getting into about the upper 30s

possibly and as we go overnight, closer to sunrise, that's when we'll be bottoming out the mid 30s and areas north and west could be in the 20s. still a cold start tomorrow morning, but milder through the afternoon. right now, though, we are nice and dry, clouds moving through, but if you look at the big picture here, we don't have any rain on the way. we wouldn't have snow on the way, it's going to be too warm, but the rain is not even close, so we are going to stay fairly dry over several days. clouds are here, but no rain with them and we'll see the clouds increasing tomorrow, too. here's future weather, so if we go through time here, winds start to switch direction, more from the south. this is tomorrow 4:00 p.m., more in the way of cloud cover, but the south wind will give us milder temperatures. then thursday morning could see rain offshore, but that's about it. the clouds stay around thursday, warmer temperatures stay here and the wind direction keeps giving us a warmup into friday afternoon, the warmest day of the week and carry into your

nationalities to stand together to promote peace over hatred. nbc 10's south jersey reporter cydney long is live at rowan tonight. what have you learned about this? >> reporter: well, keith, it is the season of hanukkah right now, and considering tonight is the third night of hanukkah, students of the jewish faith here at rowan university will stand here on the patio of the campus student center about an hour and a half from now with students of all faiths for the first ever public lighting of the menorah. their hope is peace will prevail over hatred and darkness. it was inside the chestnut residence hall, accessible only by key thursday night. >> a student was visiting a friend and noticed on some doors swastikas sort of carved into the doors, perhaps with a key. didn't seem like it was targeted at any particular student, because the residents of those rooms aren't jewish. >> reporter: university officials and campus police are calling the bias graffiti, an

act of hate vandalism, not a hate crime. >> definitely is hard to hear because this is such a diverse student body. this is unfortunate that this is happening. >> i don't think it's good. it's kind of scary also, because we're all just trying to get our education. >> reporter: police have the images, but you're not sharing them. >> yeah, the police have the images. there's an investigation going on right now. >> reporter: cofounder of the rowan family jewish center has two reactions. >> number one is, that this is isolated, and that this doesn't usually happen here. >> reporter: he calls it an opportunity to not bend, falter, or hide their faith, instead ask the entire university community to celebrate the light of hanukkah tonight at 7:00. >> giving the events that are going on against all different faiths, that we should come together as a community, everyone as a whole, and spread that light and show that we can all love each other. >> this is not just another incident. this is something that we should

all take very seriously and look after each other and solve the mystery, if you will, as soon as we can. >> reporter: now rowan university tells me it does not and will not tolerate this type of hatred anywhere on campus. anyone with information about the crime in chestnut residence hall is urged to contact campus police. the menorah light the night celebration happens at 7:00. live from rowan university, cydney long, nbc 10 news. >> cydney, thank you. this afternoon a delaware jury acquitted a dover police officer caught on camera kicking a suspect in the head. the video here is from august 2013. it shows thomas webster kicking lateef dickerson in the head. webster says that he actually meant to kick dickerson in the upper body instead. the wilmington police department released a statement saying it respects the jury's decision and will make a determination about webster's future in the coming days.

according to a health report, an employee was sick while working a shift last night. >> i guess you can rely upon the local food stores to serve you healthy food and this is a slightly annoying and frightening. you don't want to get this sort of negative attention at your local restaurants. >> chipotle believes the latest round of illnesses are related to neurovirus and not the recent e. coli outbreak. in pennsylvania the health department has confirmed one case of e. coli. the same strain of e. coli, that person didn't eat at the restaurant we've learned. meanwhile health officials are trying to determine the source of that one infection. a toms river police officer is recovering after being dragged by a car in ocean county. the officer was investigating a fraud case at a dmv office this afternoon. investigators say the suspect ran to his car and ended up

dragging officer brennan about 25 feet. the officer is expected to be okay. police later caught the suspect. but they are still looking for a woman at the right side of your screen there, who was also with him. to the midwest, police in chicago released graphic video showing a man in custody getting tased and dragged down a hallway. a warning here, some may find this video disturbing. philip coleman was arrested in 2012 for allegedly beating his mother, but family members say he needed to be hospitalized, not taken to jail. after this incident, coleman was taken to a hospital where he died. this is just the latest on several controversial pieces of footage involving the chicago police department. the department of justice announced yesterday it's investigating the practices of chicago police. the government says it will focus on whether or not police should be using deadly force. it comes after a video showing the death of laquan mcdonald sparked protests and calls for the resignation of chicago's

mayor. here at home, local leaders are set to gather to discuss a proposed centralized atlantic county dispatch center. they are meeting at the tony canale training center at 7:00. this will allow officials to learn more about the planned $25 million dispatch center at stockton university, including just how much it will cost taxpayers. speaking of costs, turning to harrisburg and the pennsylvania budget battle. house republicans are working on their own budget now to try and bring the five-month stalemate to an end. democratic critics say this bill is very similar to a budget that passed in june but was vetoed by governor tom wolf. a battle with two big names in the beer industry. why a local lawmaker says a proposed merger would hurt the brew business in delaware. plus, video you have to see. come to your television here, what started this wild police

this is nbc 10 news. >> newly released video from the seattle police department shows a chase involving a carjacking suspect that led to a deadly shooting sunday. the suspect crashed the stolen car, and as you see here, he started firing at police. they fired back, killing the 35-year-old man. three officers were hurt and accidents responding to the scene. 12 officers are on paid leave while the incident is being investigated. honoring montgomery county law enforcement who died in the line of duty. tonight the horsham police department will host the 17th annual project blue light ceremony. it begins at 6:30 at the fire

here tomorrow to the united states without having to go through a visa program. >> under the current waiver program, some noncitizens can center the u.s. for 90 days without a visa and its accompanying review. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, today is the coolest day out of the week, only going to be warming up from here, but tonight temperatures still dropping off to kind of colds numbers as most of the area in the 30s, some spots in the 20s. still need a jacket tomorrow morning, but we'll be warming through the rest of this week. that's even going to go across the weekend where we could see near record high temperatures, i'll show you that forecast in just a minute. for tonight, though, clouds increasing, 48 degrees is the temperature right now in philadelphia, and we expect to be dropping into the 30s overnight tonight and for early tomorrow morning. but as far as december is concerned, at least the rest of this week, we'll be seeing the 60s again. today we got to 50 degrees and

as we go into tomorrow, about four degrees warmer and after that we keep on warming up into the end of the week in the 60s and this carries over into the weekend, so it's going to be warmer. so i'll show you that forecast in just a second. 30s on the map right now, though. 39 in allentown, also millville. 38 degrees in the poconos, rest of the area mid to low 40s. there you see the clouds around, but no rain with this. we're going to stay dry as we go through the rest of the week, even though we'll have the clouds in place, so you'll notice more clouds around tomorrow, this is future weather, so 2:00 tomorrow afternoon about mostly cloudy skies, but milder than today. thursday we see the clouds around in the morning. we could have rain just off to the south, but that should be staying away and with the cloudy conditions we still expect warmer temperatures with that wind direction, especially as we go into friday, the warmest day out of the week and this is carrying over into the weekend. so saturday for the army/navy game at the linc, temperatures
