a chase and a crash. we brought you breaking news at 11:00 and this morning new details about this chaotic crash scene in cherry hill. up in flames. a barn on historic property burns to the ground. we'll tell you who used to own this. >> and retaliation gone wrong. police say football players looking for revenge went to the wrong home. now they are facing serious charges. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm lauren mayk. let's start with the first alert forecast. meteorologist bill henley is here with that. yesterday was pretty great, so how about today? >> we're going to have a beautiful day but there are a couple of issues.

it's chillier. we're watching for areas of fog, the thickest in south jersey. cape may is not seeing fog but not very far away the visibility is down to a quarter mile forville mill and atlantic city. light in the western suburbs. likely more fog form as the temperatures cool down. it is 39 in millville. 38 in reading and 42 in northeast philadelphia. like yesterday we'll see a warm-up, 46 degrees by 6:00, at 9:00 this morning we'll be in the low 50, by noon time enough sunshine in the low 60s and climbing. in fact, we're heading for the record books this afternoon. the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back. right now jessica boyington has your friday morning first alert traffic. >> we're watching an accident this morning, bill. this actually on city avenue on the northbound side. which is closed right around the schuylkill expressway. there is access to the schuylkill expressway heading in that direction right now. that ramp is not blocked but police have the accident scene

closed and detoured so we'll keep you updated there. on the vine street expressway, some construction. this is our camera around 24th street. you can see police activity up here blocking off the off ramp. i did see a car drive through on the westbound side so just ramps right now and the eastbound side definitely closed. they change these every morning but in between schuylkill and broad street so watch for that. you don't want to take the vine. drive times are great, no problems on 95 and the schuylkill into center city. the blue route from the schuylkill to 95 is 15 minutes. >> route 38 in cherry hill is back open. sky force 10 flew over the scene. the suspect car crashed near the cherry hill mall. police believe the car was stolen. there are injuries, we're working to find out how serious. >> in gloucester county no one

was hurt in this fire. look how intense the flames were. police did take a person into custody. they told us that they are investigating to see if this was arson. >> a barn went up in flames on a property of a former senator. it shows flames at the height of the fire. the barn is in upland. here is a photo at the scene as crews worked to contain the fire. they got the call around 9:30 last night and brought it under control. more than an hour later, we're told the barn is a horse stable but we learned there were no animals inside. the structure is on the property of former state center clarence bell. bell died 13 years ago. he remains the longest serving public official in pennsylvania with a record 48 years in office. this morning seven lee high university football players you under arrest accused of breaking

into a home and beating someone up. here is the thing. this was a case of mistaken identity. the players wanted revenge but they went looking in the wrong house. >> reporter: authorities say the seven lehigh football players broke into this student apartment, they ransacked the home, even urinated in the fridge, then one player assaulted a student who lived there. it was all supposed to be an act of fraternity driven revenge, problem is the team members got the wrong address and beat up the wrong person. >> obviously they got the wrong person, apparently, but even if they got the right person this is inexcusable conduct. >> the district attorney says the football teammates will face felony criminal mischief charges, one of them defensive back brian givens will face charges for assault. >> a lot of this is alcohol driven, it's also a little

juvenile thinking about fraternity life and that kind of stuff. and unfortunately, although they are college students a lot of them haven't grown up yet. >> on lehigh's campus most are shaking their heads. >> i think it's pretty much a disgrace. >> shawn is a senior and student athlete. he says the players made the program look bad. >> it's unfortunate this is getting the most publicity. >> the 17 members were arraigned in court this week all have posted bail, the football season is over but the disciplinary process is just getting under way. citing student privacy the university could not release more details what is next for these student athletes. their status is under review and they will undergo a conduct hearing. >> new from overnight a violent night in philadelphia. five people were shot in two separate shootings. monique braxton is live in north philadelphia this morning where those people are in the hospital

right now. monique. >> reporter: hi there. three gun shot victims are here at temple university hospital, two of them in stable condition, one is listed in critical condition and had surgery. just before midnight investigators were called to the 2800 flock of north flaunton. 15 shots were fired from two different semi-automatic handguns. witnesses tell police two men approached and opened fire, then fled. >> 20-year-old male shot one time in his back, a 21-year-old female shot in the leg, and a 36-year-old male shot twice in his thigh. >> reporter: i got off the phone with police and they tell us a car seen speeding from the scene was stopped. right now a female driver is being questioned by east detectives. no motive is known but the area was part of a drug sweep back in april. police also tell us at 11:30

last night, gun shots also rang out in a rear driveway of the 5900 block of palmetto near van kirk. when police arrived they found one 19-year-old male shot in the back, a second male was hit in the leg. he was found over in the 500 block of sanger street which is about six blocks away. police say they do believe he ran to a home near that location. police have told us both teens are in stable condition, one of them is here now at temple university hospital. the second is over at einstein medical center. when i asked about the motive, what appears to be the cause here, we've been told that neither teen is cooperating. but the investigation continues. we're going to stay on top of it. monique braxton, "nbc 10 news." happening today, the philadelphia school reform commission will hold its second public hearing for new charter schools. there are 13 applications for

new schools. the hearing begins at 1:30 this afternoon at the education center on north broad street. public comment begins at 3:30 but you do have to sign up to speak so make sure you get there early for that. another round of hearings will take place in january and then t they vote on the new charter schools. eight minutes after 4:00, it's a chilly start and the temperatures cool down, fog is forming. areas of fog thickest in new jersey right now. we'll see fog disappear as we're heading for record warmth this afternoon. 65 degrees would tie the record. i think we can do that in philadelphia today. it goes even warmer over the weekend. football weather, not exactly. very warm, pretty nice for the army/navy game and the eagles as well on sunday. 38 in reading, colder than yesterday, it's 45 in philadelphia and cape may, a few scattered clouds over philadelphia. those will be clearing out,

we'll see plenty of sunshine. looking mostly clear at the nbc 10 studios. the wind died down. that's one of the elements that allows the fog to form, a light wind and clear skies. the fog is light in reading and coatesville, blue bell under two-mile visibility. mount holly is closer to one mile but the thickest fog at this hour is in south jersey, millville and atlantic city at the airport, toms river now reporting quarter mile visibility as well. you may run into fog like we did yesterday but it doesn't last. and the clouds that are moving through right now will clear out, we'll see plenty of sunshine and that will allow for a warm-up this afternoon. very undecember-like when temperatures should be in the 40s for high temperatures. but today, 60s for bethlehem, fleetwood and pennsburg. we'll see sunshine after a little fog, new hope, 63, king of prussia 64, and 65 degrees in norristown. middle 60s for ventnor city.

rehobeth up to 65. sunshine takes over for philadelphia, berlin, and newark all well in the 60s. that's 65 will tie the record but it's going to be warm this weekend. i've got the weekend forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. >> thanks so much, bill. a check on traffic now with jessica boyington. is that fog causing problems this morning? >> not a lot of problems so far, majors seem to be doing okay. we have a few accidents. one in cherry hill, now an accident investigation from an accident that happened last night. route 38 westbound between lexington and mansion boulevard. detoured westbound and one eastbound lane is closed. follow the local detours. you're good in terms of traffic around the area. follow the detours they have posted. the schuylkill is okay, around montgomery drive no problems, headed eastbound or westbound, the drive times looking great as well. eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway is 12 minutes.

today a man heads to court in bucks county for a hearing on charges he harass add police officer. john deangelo is accused of posting on craigslist luring unsuspecting people to the officer's home at ault hours of the night. investigators believe he may have been angry at the officer for investigating his pawn shop. >> a former coach in a private school is the subject of a police investigation. sources affiliated with spring side chestnut hill academy tell nbc 10 that the school notified parents abouten a issue between a coach and students. but the school isn't saying who is coach is or what he or she has allegedly done. >> i can say that i'm aware of the fact my client is being investigated for certain activity. >> the school says the coach in question no longer works at the academy. >> we're following new

developments in the e-mail scandal in harrisburg. a supreme court justice at the center of it will have a chance to make his case in two weeks. a disciplinary court told justice eakin he faces possible suspension over lewd and offensive e-mails. the court scheduled a hearing for december 21 when eakin will get a chance to respond before the kousht decides whether to remove him. this investigation began after attorney general kathleen kane released more than 1,000 of eakin's e-mails. kane claims that's when her legal trouble started. now she is facing perjury charges. lawmakers are deciding if kane can do her job effectively with a suspended law license. now to the budget battle in harrisburg. it's up to the state house to move on major bills passed by the senate in a marathon session. senators adjourned after passing a spending bill and dozens of measures. house members return on saturday to take up those bills. governor tom wolf says he is committed to a deal he struck

last month with legislative leaders it includes a 6% increase in spending and a tax increase that is still in negotiations. house republicans are insisting on a smaller spending and tax package. this morning construction workers are treated after a fall from scaffolding that collapsed in north jersey. seven workers fell, two of them are now in critical condition. they fell 45 feet at an apartment complex in hackensack, bergen county. federal officials will join local investigators trying to figure out how this happened. there is more political chaos in colwyn. last month we showed you this confrontation on election day. now there is new fallout. the nbc 10 investigators have learned prosecutors are looking into the possibility of election fraud. the investigators confirmed the delaware county district attorney's office is investigating fraud allegations.

former colwyn manager paula brown was a poll watcher. >> it was totally illegal in violation of the election code. people were working the polls that were inside the boards that were not appointed correctly, legally. >> the delaware county elections bureau referred the case to a d.a. after the deputies made multiple visits to the colwyn polling site. it's unclear which aspect is under investigation. >> happening now, three astronauts getting ready to return from the international space station. one from nasa, one from japan and another from russia have been at the station for 141 days. among the cool things they have done there, they ate the first ever lettuce grown in space. in about a half hour they will undock from the station and will head home. they should land after 8:00 this morning. new jersey native scott kelly is staying on board the station,

he'll come home in march after completing a year in space. 18 minutes after 4:00. skies are clearing out. some areas of fog but we're not seeing it here. that's a live view of 30th street station which is where we left it yesterday. temperatures, well, they are a little colder than yesterday. down by 6 in philadelphia. 45 degrees, the wind is calm and with clearing skies that's when we get our cooler temperatures so that number is coming down this morning. no sign of fog in the pocono mountains. the lights are on at camelback. that's the view past camelback which is going to see temperatures near 60s. 40 now in wilmington. northeast philadelphia is also 40. it is colder in millville, and parts of chester county dropped into the 30s. brandywine at the airport is 39, 38 in chester springs and a little colder for phoenixville at 37 degrees.

we will see sunshine, though, a few scattered clouds will not stop the warm-up. 42 degrees in the suburbs, 47 in the city, and then we're in the 60s this afternoon. going to be a gorgeous day. there is nothing to show you on the radar. in fact, we'll stay dry right on through the weekend and the next chance of wet weather will come early next week. for today, grab the sunglasses. you need a jacket. this afternoon we undecember-like. 63 to 66 degrees, helping with the warm-up a little breeze out of the southwest, 3 to 8 miles an hour. we're on track for record warmth this weekend. saturday, 67 degrees. that's 2 degrees above the record. sunday 68, that's 3 degrees above the record. that may not be the end of the warm weather. i've got the updated seven-day forecast in the next half hour. >> thanks, bill. let's check on the roads with jessica boyington. she's keeping an eye on them for us on this friday morning. how is it looking?

>> we're doing okay so far. a few problems but not really on the majors so far this morning. so if you head out the door on 295, right around route 38 you'll be fine. you can see no problems in either direction, the southbound drive time still great 13 minutes from 38 to the black horse pike. heading into philadelphia this morning from 295 you'll be good. an accident, though, once you get in p.a. on city avenue northbound that's closing around the schuylkill expressway off ramp in here, but you can still access the schuylkill expressway from this point. so at least some good news there. watch out for the construction also on the vine street expressway east and westbound still closed and some ramps closed between broad street and the schuylkill that will be throughout another 40 minutes or so until 5:00. >> some classic toys getting a high tech twist. internet connections and apps allow kids to have an interactive experience.

some secrets of the past were brought to light in bucks county last night. in live it town community members cracked oppose a time capsule that was sealed nearly 30 years. among the contents drawings, year books, an american flag and a vhs tape. the school is about to be demolished so this was the time to open up that capsule. it isn't a child's normal christmas wish. but all one 8-year-old girl wanted was christmas cards. and boy, did she get them. sapphire wanted enough cards to fill the entire card tree her aunt bought at a thrift store. she has been living with her aunt since surviving a fire that killed the rest of her family 2 1/2 years ago. her wish was shared on facebook.
