the city, but the weather is not what they packed for. >> it's amazing. we braced ourselves for snow and when we arrived here yesterday we were like, wow, this is incredible. >> reporter: no snow at all. >> no snow at all. >> reporter: you don't mind? >> i don't mind. this is brilliant. >> reporter: for courtney, a regular here, her regular winter running gear was a bit off. >> definitely weird right now wearing a fleece, sweating more than usual. >> reporter: doesn't look like you need it. >> not at all. i could be fine in a t-shirt. >> around city cienter city, th uniform for many guys was a buttondown and t-shirt. ladies, a light sweater. we found mixed opinions about the mild temps in the mid-or possibly even high 60s this week end. >> well, that might be a little pressing it. >> that's what they're expecting this weekend. >> i know and that might be too much. >> unbelievable. >> you like it? >> i don't know if i like it. it's almost christmas time, you know what i mean? it's kind of strange.

>> we are just two weeks away from the christmas holiday a and while it looks the season it doesn't feel it. >> i have the tree and my decorations but it's weird to be in the christmas spirit at 70 degrees. is. >> i'm not worried about the christmas spirit, as long as you have it in your heart you're good. >> that guy has a good approach. a lot of the merchants at christmas village tell me this area is established enough at this point that they don't to worry about being too cold or too warm. they still get good crowds out here. the consensus among a lot of people seems to be they will enjoy this mild weather while it lasts. i'm george spencer, nbc 10 news. >> george, thank you. tomorrow the historic army-navy game returns to philadelphia as the two teams do battle for the 116th time. that's the rocky relay, the first challenge in about two days of events between cadets and midshipmen.

they run a relay up the rocky steps at the philadelphia art museum along with other endurance competitions, navy pulled out the victory. they won bragging rights. cheerleaders and fans will head to center city for the pep rally. this is video of previous pep rallies. philadelphia will host the game for the 86th time tomorrow. and tonight more than 1200 alumni and sponsors will be on hand for the army/navy gala that starts at 7:00 p.m. at the philadelphia convention center. the annual event includes dinner, dance, and speeches from city leaders. all of this leads to the game itself saturday at lincoln financial field. kickoff at 3:00. of the 115th previous matchup, navy has won 59 times. it was a violent night overnight in philadelphia.

five people were shot in two separate shootings. all five people are recovering at local hospitals. at 11:30, someone shot two teens on palmetto street near van kirk street, one in the back and the other in the leg. police have tried questioning them but say they aren't cooperating. half an hour later, three people were shot at the intersection of north swan son and somerset streets. police say two men wearing masks fired off at least 15 rounds. a car seen speeding from the scene was stopped. police took woman who was driving into custody for questioning. officials in gloucester county say no one was hurt in this fire but look at how intense these flames are in front of a home in washington township. police took a person into custody. they told us they're investigating to see if this is an arson. route 38 in cherry hill is back open after police closed a portion of the road to investigate a crash that ended a police chase.

skyforce 10 flew over the scene last night. the suspects' car crashed into the cherry hill mall. police believe the car was stolen and there are injuries but we're working to find out how serious. seven local college football players are facing charges after they allegedly broke into a student's home and beat him. police say it's also a case of mistakesen identity. police say seven lehigh university football players broke into the apartment in bethlehem, ransacked the home and assaulted the resident. investigators say it was supposed to be an act of fraternity-driven revenge but they got the wrong address and beat up the wrong person. northampton county district attorney john mortgue nellie sas they will face criminal mischief charges and one will face charges for assault. >> a lot of this is alcohol-driven it's also juvenile thinking about fraternity life and although they're college students, a lot of them haven't grown up yet.

>> the university couldn't release more details about what is next but their status remains on review and they will undergo a code of conduct hearing. a former coach at an exclusive philadelphia private school is the subject of a police investigation. sources affiliated with springside chestnut hill academy tell nbc 10 the school notified parents through an e-mail about an issue between a coach and students, the school is not saying who the coach is or what he or she has allegedly done. >> i can say i'm aware of the fact my client is being investigated for certain activities. >> school says the coach in question no longer works at the acade academy. we're following new developments in the e-mail scandal in harrisburg. a supreme court justice at the center of it will have the chance to make his case in two weeks. a disciplinary court told justice michael eakin that he faces possible suspension over lewd and offensive e-mails he traded with lawyers and friends.

the court scheduled a hearing for december 21. that's when eakin gets a chance to respond. the investigation began after attorney general kathleen kane released more than thousand of eakin's e-mails. kane claims that's when her legal trouble started. she's facing federal perjury charges and state lawmakers deciding if she can do her job effectively with a suspended law license. now to the budget battle in harrisburg. it's up to the statehouse to move on major bills passed by the senate in a marathon session. senators adjourned after passing a school spending bill and dozens of other measures, house members returned saturday to take up the bills. governor tom wolf says he's committed to a deal he struck last month with the legislative leaders. it includes a 6% increase in spending and the tax increase that is still in negotiations. house republicans are insisting on a smaller spending and tax

package. >> right now a megadeal could happen in the chemical industry. dow chemical and the dupont company announced they are merging in a deal worth about $130 billion. the two companies selling a churl products and chemicals to farmers around the world. the company would be known as dough-dupo dough-dupont. a casino in south philadelphia is one step closer to reality of city leaders approved zoning for the project. the proposed casino site is near the city's stadium complex. before the zoning was approved the philadelphia city council says it demanded to know more about the impact it would have on the neighborhood and how much workers would be making at the casino. the las vegas casino will include slot machines and table games. the project is expected to attract a total $8.5 million annual -- 8 357b9 million

visitors a year. according to developers, it will create 2,000 permanent jobs as it is up and running. construction should begin next year. this morning a montgomery county police department will be buying two vests to protect their canine officers, all thanks to local students: the students at the elementary school pressed a check to the police zoormt that they could buy two canine vests for their dogs, knee a and hugo. they raised the money for the vest by drawing up note cards and selling them. the canine unit gave a demonstration to the school and helped them learn more about police work. we are following new developments in the investigation in the massacre in san bernardino. why divers are now searching a lake near the scene of the deadly mass shooting. plus, his controversial comments about muslims have made headlines all week long so what does america think of donald trump now? the results of a new poll just ahead. if you think temperatures are mild now, we're warming

four people were killed at a medical helicopter crash in southern california late last night. police say the four victims were the pilot, a nurse, a paramedic and a patient. crews started missing for the chopper late last night after there was no contact with the aircraft for 30 minutes in what should have been a 10-minute

flight. the county sheriff says bad weather and rain hampered the search. ntsb -- the ntsb will be on the scene to investigate what caused that crash. divers are back at a lake near the scene of last week's deadly shootings in san bernardino but they're being tight-lipped about what they're looking for. nbc's miguel almaguer has more. >> reporter: the search at this lake could take days, dive teams three miles where the massacre took place looking for leads. investigators say the shooters, syed farook and tashfeen malik may have been here and may have dumped in evidence the lake. >> the specific evidence we're looking for, we're not going to discuss, but we're simply saying we're seeking evidence of anything that had to do with this particular crime. >> reporter: with investigators saying teams may canvass neighborhoods, the team is still pressing enrique marquez, the

gunman's friend. officials say he's talking to the fbi after going on a drinking binge following the massacre and feels remorse. police say he bought the assault rifles following the shooting. he hasn't been charged with a crime. >> enrique purchased the rifles for syed and his wife and i never seen him with a gun. >> reporter: many who knew marquez, even his own mother, says she didn't know he was married. that wife, a ukrainian national, is related to syed farook's brother by marriage. officials tell nbc news they're looking at whether that marriage was a sham, a favor marquez did far farook. investigators say marquez told them farook discussed staging an attack in the l.a. area in 2012 but when four local men were arrested for plotting to kill u.s. soldiers in afghanistan he got cold feet. authorities are looking at whether farook knew those men. >> i won't address anything do with mr. marquez at this point. >> reporter: with investigators chasing new leads, the funerals

in san bernardino have begun. yvette valasco laid to rest. the first of more ceremonies to come today, celebrating life after death. >> that was miguel almaguer reporting. donald trump will be the special guest at the commonwealth club luncheon hosted by the republican state committee of pennsylvania. despite his comment, trump is expected to speak. the luncheon will be held at the plaza hotel in new york city. a new poll shows more than half of americans oppose donald trump's proposal to ban muslims from entering the u.s. 57% of americans oppose trump's proposal according to a new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll. that's compared to 25% who favor it. meanwhile, 75% of democrats are against the plan but republicans are split. 42% support the muslim ban, 36% oppose it.

trump spoke last night in new hampshire but made no reference to his muslim ban proposal. he canceled a planned trip to israel. netanya benjamin netanyahu was pressured to cancel the visit. former secretary of state and presidential candidate hillary clinton appeared on "late night with seth meyers." after a little joking around, things got serious when the subject turned to the gop front-runner donald trump. clinton called the billionaire presidential candidate's heated rhetoric about muslims dangerous and she said the latest comments are not only wrong, they playwright into the terrorist hand hands. >> it's giving them a great propagan propaganda. >> clinton said everyone, including members of the gop, need to take a stand against the rhetoric.

well above average. 68 by sunday. 70 degrees so if you're heading out to the eagles game it will be a warm one for this time of year. satellite radar shot shows we have a few clouds moving in from the west and if we widen out the picture we're not tracking any weather disturbances yet but nothing will affect our sunday plans but as we get into monday, that's when changes will start to happen: so we'll have a cold front tap into the moisture out of the gulf of mexico and then it will transition closer to us as we head into monday afternoon and monday evening. so overnight we could even see a little bit of heavy rain associated with that system that's going to move through. highs around the region today will be close to the record. the record 65 degrees. we could tie that record with our forecast high allentown 62 the in atlantic city.

are pre-k to eighth grade. some are third grade to eighth grade. some are shelters and homes that help families in general but not everyone really gets to celebrate or have the benefit of giving presents to children. so hopefully what we're able to do is kind of almost give that help to those families or give that joy to those kids. >> it's a catholic foundation so pope francis came. how do you think his visit has impacted in organizations like yours. >> i think in general not even in the catholic realm but over all in philanthropy and chiarit it's been a huge bump. his message of love and inclusion is really, really important and i think it's been resounded by a lot of people in the city and outside, nationally and internationally. and when you bring it back to something we're doing or other organizations are doing, it reflects the love that there is in the city, the love that people have for their fellow

stepped up security and surveillance in sensitive sites, the headquarters of the united nations where for the first time in a while, as a matter of fact, we've seen u.n. security guards wearing bulletproof vests and hold magazine guns but the threats are not specific. authorities are not saying they are specific. they were acting cautiously of course and and we have lead to a potential attack. the terror threat was raised from level three to five and level three is considered not moderate or serious. nevertheless, the u.s. embassy in bern has issued a warning on thursday for all u.s. citizens traveling to the country or already in the country to be, of course, extra cautious. back to you. >> happening today, the family of a black chicago teenager shot by a white police officer will speak publicly for the first

time. the family of laquan mcdonald is expected to thank the public for demanding justice in the case. mcdonald was shot 16 times by officer jason van dyke. van dyke is facing murder charges. >> no more! last night, protesters in chicago continued their call for mayor rahm emanuel to step down over the deadly police shooting. they also staged a die-in on the sidewalk in front of the building where they thought the mayor was hosting a holiday party. they're upset because the shooting happened in october of last year but dash cam video wasn't released until 13 months later. we're following breaking news right now from city hall in philadelphia. that's where immigration protesters are being removed by police. we're looking at a live picture of what's going on in realtime. we saw that this -- some of this

just happened a few moments ago where people were removed. this comes during a protest of mayor michael nutter's promise to revoke philadelphia's sanctuary city status which would subject immigrants to deportation: in boston, dozens of commuters got a wild ride after they discovered that they were on a runaway train that left the station without an operator. nbc 10 national correspondent ron mott has more on today's investigation. >> reporter: the read line "t" train left the station south of boston on thursday as usual. only problem, as about 50 passengers later found, their operator wasn't where he should have been -- at the controls. the six cars blowing past several stations. >> we were just flying through the stations. >> if we kept going at that rate of speed we would have either derailed or went over the bridge. >> for nine long minutes the train sped along the tracks mile after mile with terrified passengers. the mbta says workers realized

the problem immediately, clearing trains ahead, cutting power to the electrified third rail, bringing the runaway train to a halt. only then did passengers discover the reason why. none of them was hurt. >> the people on the first car were trying to knock on the door of the conductor, that's when we discovered there was nobody there. >> reporter: governor charlie baker expressed skepticism about the cause. >> manipulated, tampered with. there was -- it's pretty clear that it was set in forward motion which is why it moved in the first place when the signal was manipulated. >> reporter: officials say the 28-year veteran operator, david felix vasquez, was placed on administrative leave while investigators probe whether human error is to blame and that he received minor injuries after being brush bid the train as it moved out of the station. this morning, passengers boarded the scheduled 6:09 train out of braintree station where thursday's drama began. >> i'm playing to god there's somebody in the driver's seat to be quite honest with you. that's all i care about.

>> that was nbc 10's national correspondent ron mott reporting. take a look at this. a passenger train smashed into a truck at a crossing, it was caught on camera. look at that. this is the czech republic where this happened where police say the truck jumped the flashing red lights before colliding with the train. safety officials say the truck driver escaped with minor injuries. no one on the train was hurt, luckily. the three largest u.s. airlines are banning one of the most popular holiday items because of a fire danger. delta, american, and united airlines are banning hoverboard in check or carry-on luggage. they say the lithium ion batteries that power these devices could catch fire. hoverboards are motorized two-wheel skateboard-sized scooters that users stand on. they have been a hot gift item at many retailers this year. the u.s. consumer product safety commission is investigating at least 10 reports of hoverboard

fires, some of which were captured on video. many of you have already put up the christmas tree and decorations but if you haven't, there's still some time and you want to make sure that you're doing it safely. nbc 10's matt delucia has tipped for you. >> reporter: 'tis the season for trees and lights. >> lots and lots of lights. >> it's a short season so it's been busy. >> at holod's hardware, they stocked up on 3,000 christmas trees to start the season. a better season so far. >> christmas trees are fuller than ever, beautifully shaped, nice and fresh. >> reporter: that also means taking care of them, keeping them in water and disposing of them properly at the end of the holidays. when it comes to decorating, you could go with a 22-foot inflatable santa or something flashy of another nature. but beware of a big decorating

we're following news from city hall in philadelphia. police removed protesters from inside the building. this comes during a protest of mayor michael nutter's promise to revoke philadelphia's sanctuary city status, which would subject immigrants to deportation. immigration groups give the mayor a 48-hour deadline to sign the people's executive order against deportation. they came back to protest after

tell us about that. >> when we're on the road we do workshops and concerts and it's amazing that the students are like sponges for the music because they're not exposed to it enough so when we go in there, they're like "wow, where does this music come from?" and they want to know more and start their own jazz collection. >> doctor, tell us about teaming up with eric mintel's quartet and what that's been like for the kids. >> great. as eric says, we have a great jazz band in our school but jazz is not the kind of music that most students listen to all the time so that firsthand experience with them in person is eye opening and exciting. >> a lot of them aren't familiar with it. it's younger than the demographics listening to jazz but they seem to enjoy it and love playing it. >> they love it. it's such -- especially eric and

his quartet. it's such high energy and super fun. >> is it the freelance nature of the way jazz is that they love, eric? >> well, i think it's the way you present it. if you present it, i think of the audience -- i think the audience is the extra member of the group so their feedback -- i'm always thinking accessibility. it has to be accessible. it has to be something you can understand and you can lead them into some other areas jazz wise. but it's been satisfying and a lot of work and it's been very, very satisfying. i get people all the time "i never listened to jazz before but i like your music." and suddenly they want to start their own jazz collection. >> amazing. and quickly, going to the white house, how excited are these kids? >> very excited. this will be -- the choir will be going to the white house for the ninth time. >> eric just teased you during the break that another trip to the white house, right?

few clouds and the sky there, wind speeds out of the southwest at eight miles per hour so a comfortable late morning early afternoon on tap for us, 51 in pottstown, 50 in allentown, 57 in atlantic city, 58 degrees in dover and cles ose to 60 in wildwood. we are holding on to mild air and we're warmer today than yesterday and that will continue to be the trend as we head into the rest of the weekend on saturday. expect temperatures to warm to 68 degrees. our average is 46 so there will be more than 20 degrees above average. so we are definitely a lot warmer than we're used to for this time of year. you'll notice clouds are moving in from the west and that's it, just clouds, we'll stay nice and dry as we head into the rest of the weekend. so we're not tracking any systems but that will change as we head into monday. but as far as the weekend is concerned, warmer conditions expected for us as high pressure
