been there for us before. >> reporter: from turnersville, cydney long, nbc 10 news. new at 6:00, the terror suspect accused of recruiting jihad jane here in our area is now in custody. interpol arrested the suspect in barcelona yesterday. we contacted the u.s. justice department in philadelphia this afternoon and they told us they do want him brought to philly to face charges. and just minutes ago we obtained video of the arrest. accused of recruiting jihad jane who lived in montgomery county. he recruited several americans to join a terror cell. he was originally arrested in ireland but let him walk free and agreed to extradite him to the u.s. larose used an online nickname, jihad jane, she's serving a ten-year prison sentence. angry protesters showed up to greet donald trump in new york city for pennsylvania

the pennsylvania republican party's annual commonwealth club luncheon was held, demonstrators were angry about trump's recent call for a ban on muslims. some of them got inside the event and disrupted his speech. to the weather, yes, today is december 11th, and look at this, no snow on the mountain at camelback resort in the poconos. it is a little bit of manmade snow right there. >> tonight, how the warm december is hurting the resorts and businesses. nbc 10's drew smith reports. >> reporter: dru brooks works in an industry that relies on the cooperation of mother nature. >> everybody right now is holding their breath, looking at skiets, going it's going to start falling soon. >> reporter: the ski resorts line the trails with these, snow making guns, but they are useless when it's this warm. compared today with last year's

white thanksgiving. >> it's not unheard of. the last couple of years we've been spoiled with excellent winters. >> reporter: outside the brand new hotel, the fire pits aren't lit and people out taking photos of the barren ski slopes wore light jackets. >> it's december, the holiday season, so i think we want snow, we want that pretty mountain feeling. >> reporter: it's warm outside, but even warmer in here at the northeast's largest indoor water park where people made the most of the unwinter-like feel. >> it's beautiful and we're very excited to be here. >> reporter: since they can't get out the winter sports gear, the mountain kept opened the summer outdoor attractions. >> went on the mountain coaster, i went on the 4,000 zipline. it was so fun. >> reporter: the resort tried to make good use of this time without snow. we saw some workers out here painting the ski lifts, they also tell us the snow making machines are ready to go, they just need to wait for the colder weather. at camelback resort in the pocono mountains, drew smith,

nbc 10 news. >> and this weekend we could break records dating back decades. >> nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz joining us now with his mild first alert forecast. glenn? >> the record on sunday is almost 100 years old, and we've got a real good chance of breaking that. dry conditions throughout the day today, and just some high clouds around, and the temperature continues to be way above the average high, only 46 degrees. got up to 61 today, tomorrow 68 would be a record with 70 on sunday would be a record, as well. it's 46 in pottstown now. that's one of the cool spots. mount pocono, 51 degrees. just give you an idea how warm the atmosphere is for it to be that warm at those higher elevations. you can see clouds advancing from the west, but there's no rain with them, and so we're going to have a dry night, but the clouds are going to help keep the temperature up.

so even by 2:00 in the morning we're still 52 degrees. we'll see how long this incredible weather streak is going to last with the seven day in a few minutes. carried out at city hall. protesters wanted their voices heard on the immigration process in philadelphia. the group wants mayor nutter to keep his current immigration policy in place, but the city says it's reviewing if changes are needed after federal guidelines have changed. >> nbc 10's deanna durante is joining us with more on what happened today. active day, deanna. >> reporter: yeah, it was, protesters told me they wanted to get arrested. that did not happen, though they do say they wanted the mayor to make a decision today about his immigration plans. they also say that they want all immigrants protected no matter their criminal status. >> we're putting our bodies on the line because we believe we want to live in a city that welcomes people and does not kick people out. >> reporter: the city says it's

not shutting anything down, including the protests. for six hours protesters sang, chanted, and made demands outside city hall, attempting to block the northeast entrance, one of many doorways. >> what we wanted from them was a firm no that they are not going to change anything. >> reporter: in a meeting upstairs, three members of the group met with the deputy mayor and chief of staff who told the group the mayor has not decided if he will make any changes. >> reporting the immigrants to i.c.e., i know that this is not exactly what has happened. >> reporter: the city says in 2014 mayor nutter signed an order to limit cooperation between the city and immigration officials and would not detain people without a federal warrant. the city says the federal government changed its stance, agreeing to the city's detainer policy but wants to be notified before violent offenders are released. the city has yet to change its policy. >> we're trying to attack the fear on a lot of different areas, and that's what, i think, if people would just be able to

react to facts and not just react to fear. >> reporter: after that meeting protesters said they demanded action or they wouldn't leave. and those protesters did leave just a little bit after 4:00 today. now the mayor was not here at city hall all day, he was in new york at the pennsylvania society event, and we have reached out to the kenney campaign, they have said repeatedly if mayor nutter makes changes on this policy, that mayor-elect kenney will reinstate those changes when he takes office in january. reporting live outside city hall, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. a bucks county woman accused of hurling homophobic slurs and throwing punches at a gay couple faced one of her accusers in court today. kathryn knott is the daughter of a police chief. she faces years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault and other charges. knott and two other men were tracked down by surveillance images from september of last year. prosecutors say the trio

attacked the gay couple on a center city street. one of the victims testified today how the attack left him with screws in his jaw. knott's two co-defendants pleaded guilty, along with probation they were also barred from going downtown. a limo driver is parked inside a jail cell tonight in delaware county. a task force arrested lawrence walls last night when he showed up to a parking lot. detectives say he thought he texted for a month with a 15-year-old boy, planned to meet for sex when detectives arrested the driver from delaware. a philadelphia pub owner faces more charges of using stolen credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars in extra charges. michael hoffner faces five more wire fraud charges after he was first indicted this past june. he stole credit cards and used them at his bar. police in mount laurel say two bandits responsible for a rash of car break-ins used stolen credit cards at a local

convenience store. the car break-ins happened overnight wednesday. the suspects used the cards at a store, mount laurel police say they took money, purses, and electronics in cars. it is one of the biggest traditions in college football. >> and it is right back here in philadelphia for the 86th time. we're talking about the rivalry between army and navy. taking a live look right here, the two teams will square off on the grid iron tomorrow. you can see army's logo painted in the end zone from this view right here. ♪ both teams' bands and the cheerleaders got fans fired up at the pep rally today. nbc 10 was there for all the action at the shops at liberty place. this pep rally features the pull-up challenge. the army cadets won that competition there.

it was navy who got the win and bragging rights at this morning's rocky relay. the cadets and midshipmen run a relay up the famous rocky steps at the museum of arts, all leading up to tomorrow's game at the linc. kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. >> so strong. voters in new jersey will decide whether there should be two new casinos. state lawmakers approved a deal to put a referendum on the ballot in december. exact locations are not locked in yet. tax money from the casinos would go to atlantic city to compensate for loss in revenue. minutes ago atlantic city's mayor released a statement saying casino expansion would be devastating for every single resident in new jersey. he said allowing another casino to be built outside of a.c. is like putting a dunkin' donuts on every street corner of a four-way intersection. it would be impossible for all four businesses to survive. next on nbc 10 news at 6:00,

this is nbc 10 news. >> thousands of jobs in jeopardy in delaware. >> dupont and dow chemical plan to merge in a mega deal that would create one large chemical producer worth $130 billion. dupont has 7,000 employees in delaware, dow chemical has 500 in newark. tim furlong gets the pulse of the community on the deal. >> reporter: in delaware you can drive on the dupont highway, we take our kids to dupont hospital, tee it up at the dupont country club, or get a fancy dinner at the hotel dupont. even paid to put the pretty stone on the rockford park water tower way back in the day. in many ways, they have defined delaware. but now with news of a

dow/dupont merger, this company and its role might never be the same. there will be a ripple effect across the state. >> every element of the economy is potentially affected, retail, real estate, schools. >> reporter: the original factory here are now a museum and library but if the merger goes through, there are questions and concerns about the current properties, including the large experimental station over that traffic bridge up there. of course, there are the workers who go to those facilities. 7,000 dupont employees here in delaware, 500 dow workers, as well, for that matter. dupont says it's cutting 10% of its global workforce. no word on what happens to the building or employees once the new dow/dupont splits into three independent companies. >> the transitions are difficult, especially for the families impacted, but we need to keep focused and make sure we continue to be an attractive state for all kinds of businesses. >> reporter: at one point there were 20,000 employees in

delaware, that number has gone down over the years, employees and anyone else staying here hope they never completely go away. little vinny's sure would miss the dupont lunch crowd. >> the fear if indeed it goes away, we're going to have a problem i'm sure. >> reporter: tim furlong, nbc 10 news. >> and cnbc reports the merger caused the stock market to take a tumble today, the dow jones lost 310 points and the market finished its worst week since august. a contract extension could be on the way for the superintendent of philadelphia schools. the school reform commission today announced it will vote next week to extend the contract for another five years. the current deal is set to expire in august of 2017. he servedó÷t as superintendent since 2012. some first graders are learning the importance of giving this holiday season. >> they sure are. the students at white marsh elementary school raised money to purchase k-9 vests for the

township's police department. today the class presented the police department with a check for the k-9 vests. the students put their artistic skills to work and created these note cards printed and sold to raise money for the service-based learning project. the students raised more than $13,000 for the two k-9 officers nika and hugo. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> well, after the second warmest november ever recorded, we're even more extreme in december so far, but this is not going to last forever. don't put off till next weekend your outdoor activities, because it's not going to be like this next weekend. we have a record breaking weekend here, at least in many parts of the area. some fog late tonight and tomorrow morning, and then the rain pretty much holding off until monday. the temperatures continue to be way above average, even with some clouds today. 56 degrees now, the wind west at

6 miles an hour. and the clouds will keep the temperature up tonight. it's 46 in pottstown now, 47 in allentown, so we're seeing some of these places dropping into the 40s as the area of clouds came through breaks up a little bit and we get some clearing, and that allows the temperature to go down. more clouds back to the west that are going to be coming in. 61 today after 62 yesterday, the average high is only 46. and then look at these next three days, could see records on all of them, alt hardest record to break is monday. that record is 69. we've got some more clouds coming in from the west after we're getting this bit of temporary break, but no rain with them. these are mostly pretty high up in the atmosphere and most of the atmosphere will be too dry. these are the records, 65 degrees for saturday in philadelphia. predicting 68, and on sunday that record 65 set in 1923, and

we may smash that record actually, and one team may be smashing the other in south philly tomorrow, but you're not going to need any kind of heavy coats. 67 degrees at kickoff, and for the eagles on sunday, could be even warmer by the third quarter let's say could be up to 70 degrees. 66 degrees at kickoff. and this mild weather during the month of december covers a huge area. records all the way back to chicago and down to the south, we're not the only ones affected by this. just look how widespread it is. by tuesday it looks like it's about to end, but it starts to build back up for wednesday and thursday. the cold air gets closer, and it does look like it's going to come down for next weekend. temperatures could be below average next weekend, and considering how spoiled we've been by this exceptional warmth,
