right now we are off to a very foggy start. this is center city philadelphia this morning. the fog will lift, then showers and more warm weather are in the forecast. all hands on deck. today one of the busiest days of the holiday shipping season. how the country's biggest carriers are making sure your packages get where they need to go. flying high, the eagles riding a two-game winning streak as they look ahead to the next sunday night showdown here on nbc 10. we have complete reaction from the team and the fans. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. it's 4:00 on this monday.

you can see from this camera the story is the fog. let's check in with meteorologist bill henley. bill? tough driving in. >> slow going. that's not much of a view. it will likely get worse. it's thick this morning. dense fog for quakertown down to quarter mile, also in blue bell, the pocono mountains zero visibility for mount pocono. in new jersey, wrightstown, mount holly, toms river, a quarter mile. northeast philadelphia, philadelphia international all seeing dense fog along with wilmington. central and southern delaware most of extreme southern new jersey not seeing that fog yet. temperatures are cooling down and we'll see them turn around with fog to start with. 56 degrees at 6:00, by 9:00, 59 and then 66 degrees with cloudy skies, less fog at noon time and a warm-up. we could flirt with record temperatures. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back. katy zachry has first alert

traffic. >> good morning, bill. limited visibility on some of the roads for people driving in. it may be warm, you're contending with fog. this is a live look along 95 south of the city right around the philadelphia international airport. you can see limited visibility, there are a few headlights there. i'm going to keep my eye on the philadelphia international airport to see if there are delays. drive times are not affected by the dense fog. you have to go slower but no accidents on 95, 76 or the blue route just foggy conditions as you saw. moving into new jersey, route 42 freeway, headed north between 55 and the walt whitman bridge, about four minutes. pretty good this time. today, holiday shipping heads into high gear. fedex and the postal service, right before the christmas rush. matt delucia is live at haverford township with more.

>> reporter: good morning. first the shopping, now time for the shipping. we've got 11 days until christmas. it will be quiet here as you might imagine at 4:00 but the postal service says this should be their busiest day of the year. 15.5 billion cards moving through for the stone. it's not just the postal service busy today. outside ups and fedex in the area equally busy trying to get those gifts where they need to go. fedex tells us they expect volume up 12% this year and the postal service says about 10.5% for them. a lot more packages. here is something, today this monday is the busiest shipping day, next monday will be the busiest delivery day. so of course we have a lot of packages coming through, we have a lot of that because people are shopping online. get ready to get out there early if you want to get all of that shipping down early today.

live in haverford, matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> good advice. thanks, matt. as quickly as packages are delivered some thieves are as fast to take advantage of boxes left at your door. this video was taken in delaware. ahead, what you can do to protect your gifts. two teens were shot in west philadelphia overnight and one did not survive. it happened on crayton street. both teens went to the hospital. one is in critical condition. police are trying to determine the motive. in delaware county, the family of a teenager found shot to death wants to know what happened, on sunday night a crowd gathered at the youth league football field in west philadelphia where a 15-year-old left his home after a family argument in late november. officers found his body in the back seat of a car on friday in north philadelphia, a few days

after his father had reported him missing. his grandmother spoke to the crowd. >> find out who did this to my grandson. he did not deserve this. >> police have made no arrests in this case and do not have a motive for the shooting. this morning a delaware man is behind bars accused in the double murder of his estranged wife and her 80-year-old mother. authorities say the two women were killed as they were on the way to church yesterday. this all happened early yesterday at a house on hawkeye branch road in kent county. one of the victims was found in the driveway. police have arrested 66-year-old gilbert rochester. investigators tell us that he stabbed his wife and her mother around 7:30 yesterday morning. according to investigators they found rochester hiding in the woods allegedly holding the murder weapon. detectives say he and his wife were in the process of getting a

divorce. rochester is being held without bail. >> staying in delaware a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a massachusetts man who state police say was illegally transporting 130 cases of alcohol. according to investigators the driver had 130 cases of liquor and $10,000 in cash in his car. when police pulled him over in claymont. he purchased the alcohol in new jersey and delaware. he is charged with trying to avoid the excise tax. >> the eagles are hanging on to first place this morning after hanging on to beat the buffalo bills. the birds went ahead to stay when sam bradford hit a 53-yard touchdown. the eagles defense had to save the day. ed reynolds intercepted a deep pass. the birds edged the bills, 23-20. philadelphia improved to 6-7.

at nearby st. andrews parish. the outdoor nativity scene was packed with people and animals. nine minutes after 4:00 along with the warm air, comes the possibility for fog. we've seen it the last few mornings. it's very thick and it's going to be slow to clear. once it does, we'll get another big warm-up. record warmth is possible again. the record is 69, we could hit 70. tracking showers later today. it's going to be a cloudy day, not a sunny warm day, it's going to be a cloudy warm day with late day showers, fog now in mount pocono. 48 degrees. 54 in trenton. wilmington is 53 degrees. a very mild start and nothing you see on the live pictures. that's a live view showing the thick fog that is widespread from wilmington through philadelphia, philadelphia international, northeast philadelphia airport, much of

new jersey into pennsylvania. a little farther south and fog-free, but there's a chance that we'll see late day showers in the entire area. right now it's dry on the radar. looks to the west, and you see large storm system that is producing some snow over kansas and nebraska, it's going to be rain for us. before the rain gets here another big warm-up. 62 degrees in the pocono mountains. bethlehem and pennsburg in the middle 60s. foggy start this morning. but this afternoon with clouds,p moorestown 70 degrees, 67 in sauder town. some areas to start with, 66 in cape may. the 70s for symrna and milford and philadelphia a foggy start but the fog will clear later this morning and then the temperatures take off. 67 in malvern, 70 for ber min and philadelphia. look at the weekend forecast when things look different when i'm back in 10 minutes. >> remember, you can track the rain as it moves into the area

on your phone with the nbc 10 app, it's a free download for your smart phone or tablet. 11 minutes after 4:00 on this monday. that fog definitely creating problems for drivers. katy is following an accident on 95. >> there is a deadly accident on 95, this is south of the philadelphia international airport, so it's on 95 south at tinicum township which is around juan a maker avenue. i haven't noticed tie-ups. there isn't the volume to create tie-ups. just to show you how foggy it is, this is the foggy shot we know from state police on the scene that fog may have played a factor in this. so it's considerably foggy in that area. very, very low visibility on so many of the roads throughout our area. you want the low beam fog lights on. taking a look at 76, our drive times now between the vine and the blue route it's only going to take about 10 minutes both

directions. today marks three years since the sandy hook massacre killed 20 children and six educators. next, how one high school in connecticut is honoring the victims with kindness. why the community hopes it's a lesson that will live on well beyond today. also next, on a roll. the eagles are back in the playoff fight winning the last two games. something else that's going on with the birds.

first of six officers to stand trial for gray's death. he is charged with manslaughter. gray died in april while in police custody after breaking his neck in the back of a police van. his death sparked riots in the city and across the country. it became a rallying cry for the black lives matter movement. a verdict could be reached this week. >> today marks the third anniversary of the mass shooting at sandy hook elementary school in newtown, connecticut. it killed 20 children and six educators. the gun men who had mental health problems committed suicide as police closed in. the school was demolished in 2013, a new school being built is expected to open a year from now. today connecticut's governor ordered flags be lowered to half staff, tonight the newtown community will gather for an interfaith church service. a high school in fair field, connecticut is honoring the victims with 26 days of kindness. some students are writing letters to thank the first responders in newtown and

elsewhere, others are donating food and blankets to the homeless. the teens say it makes perfect sense. >> dear newtown teacher. >> first responders. >> dear newtown police officers. >> i wanted to let them know they were appreciated and their job was selfless. >> we're not just remembering something bad that happened. trying to counter that with good. >> you spread like one good idea and it becomes like a good disease. >> the students and teachers say they now consider the kindness program part of the curriculum. >> later on this morning in our area, state lawmaker from bucks county will mark the sandy hook a anniversary in an event. they will be at snipes farm to remember the victims. there they will renew the call for universal background checks for gun purchasers. los angeles, a deadly shooting involving police was captured on cell phone and sparking

protests. 33 shots were fired in less than 25 seconds. a warning, this video you're about to see is graphic. there were tense moments as two deputies opened fire on 28-year-old nicolas robertson. investigators say he was armed with a gun. deputies say robertson ignored commands and continued to walk toward a gas station refusing to drop his weapon. we paused the stroovideo. robinson falls and tries to crawl away. >> he was crawling on his knees. they kept shooting. why. >> you see the suspect entering the frame, weapon in hand. he was behaving erratically, oddly and bizarre fashion. >> authorities have released three 911 calls from witnesses who saw a man firing gun shots in the air before police

arrived. it's unclear how many of the shots hit robertson. friends and family of the father of three taken to the streets in outrage. the community activists are calling for an independent investigation. it has been one month since the terror attacks in paris. when 130 people died. yesterday, parisians paid tribute to the victims outside the concert hall. 90 people were killed there. candles, flowers and photos line the streets outside the venue. the area has become somewhat of a makeshift shrine. france is still under a state of emergency. >> authorities continue to search for suspects involved in the attacks. only one person believed to be directly linked to the shootings and bombing escaped and believed to be in syria. keep your shirt on. that's a winning theme for the eagles as they continue their role at a crucial point in the

season. john clark has the story. >> reporter: so how did the eagles turn around their season after those three straight horrible losses in november? the players said chip kelly kept this team believing and some eagles told me they were confident because sam bradford was returning. sam has won six of the last eight games he has started and finished. and the birds now have their theme for the season. they are all wearing the shirts 53 angry men. the owner told them before and after the win in new england, play bleeping angry. so these angry birds are now 2-0 since that, playing with anger, passion, and emotion. >> 53 angry birds. it came the from mr. lury. he was pretty pissed off so we had to feed off his energy. it's a good logo. it's a good shirt. >> great way to look at it. at the end of the day this is an

fog and it's widespread. this is a view from here at the studios, the temperature is warm, 54 degrees. fog at philadelphia international with the visibility down to 1/8 mile. and it's going to be slow to clear. even extends to the pocono mountains, this is a live view from camelback which has dense fog. some spots seeing zero visibility. coatesville, blue bell down to a quarter mile. that's thick. zero right now in mount pocono and hazelton has quarter mile visibility. fog for trenton, northeast philadelphia, mount holly and wrightstown. wilmington airport, quarter mile visibility as well. fog to start with and once the fog clears we'll see a mostly cloudy day. we're not going to get much sunshine at all. maybe a break or two. but we'll get later in the day is some rain. a little bit of mist this morning or this afternoon. but here comes the rain by late in the afternoon our futurecast showing 4:00, just the hint of

rain starting. but some pretty good downpours during the evening commute. coming through pennsylvania and into new jersey. 6:00 in the evening, by later in the evening still scattered showers around by 11:00 but those will be clearing out overnight tonight by then. from a quarter inch at the shore to half inch in philadelphia, to more than an inch for reading. and it will be warm through it all. but that changes this weekend. here comes december cold. and a gusty wind on saturday. 43 the high temperature. it will feel like it's in the 30s and sunday afternoon we'll be warmer but nothing like last weekend. got the full seven-day forecast coming up in the next half hour. >> looking forward to it. 4:22 on monday. katy is keeping an eye on the traffic cameras and 95 still an issue. >> we do. and i learned a little more pause there are multiple vehicles in this accident i'm seeing on 95 and i have a bert

location. there is a lane restriction on 95 southbound around the efington area between exits 9 and 8. that's as you headed southbound. be aware of that. it's not tying things up considerably because there are few cars on the roadway. you can see in that area that dense fog is playing a role in just people's commute. we know from state police out there at the scene it is incredibly foggy where that deadly accident happened. this is in new jersey, a live look at route 30 at interstate i-295 you can see foggy conditions in hadden heights. if you are taking it from new jersey into pennsylvania, there is patchy fog on a number of them but so far no speed restrictions have been lifted for those. >> thanks, katy. parishioners call it an eye opening experience at sunday mass. it's because of these open doors. next we'll explain why this was the first for the bishop of camden. it's all thanks to a change in tradition started by pope

francis. an open door hold as special meaning for the catholic church this time of year. the bishop of camden opened the doors of the cathedral yesterday morning before mass. the ceremonial opening of the holy door marks the start of the catholic church's holy year of mercy. normally only the doors of the basilica in rome can be opened

but the pope broke with the tradition having catholics make the pilgrimage to rome. he ordered doors to be thrown open as a sign of inclusion and forgiveness and did the same in rome. a champion's welcome for a local football team. not the eagles. a little more to do. this is in germantown as the northwest raiders arrived home following a national championship win in florida. the second consecutive title for the team. >> last year was a great feeling, today even greater knowing that we represent philadelphia in a good light. >> exciting. a moment to remember. a life long moment. >> after falling behind 19-0 the raiders here scored 34 unanswered points to win the championship.
