the scene at 66th and haverford avenue. matt, what have you learned? >> reporter: vai, police cleared the scene 90 minutes ago. the good news is that there were no serious injuries. this is the corner where this happened. you mentioned the intersection of 66th and haverford avenue. police tell us a man was walking with an infant in a stroller when a driver hit that father. some video here from the scene a little while ago. the baby is fine. they were also walking with a dog, the dog is okay as well. police say the driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of dui according to investigators. this happened shortly after 8:00 this morning. a busy time on this already busy stretch of road. in fact, there is a school just less than a block from where we are right here so this could have been a whole lot worse. fortunately just a few scratches as police questioned the man behind the wheel. live in west philadelphia this morning. i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news.

>> matt, thank you. philadelphia police are investigating two stabbings that happened in center city. this was the scene at 23rd and walnut streets. police say the man was stabbed in the hand. it happened around 6:00 a.m. he is expected to be okay. a short time later, someone was slashed in the face at 21st and arch streets. police are trying to find out if the two incidents are connected. so far no one has been arrested. a fire broke out this morning inside an unoccupied store front at the italian market. this is the corner of 9th and ellsworth streets. you can see the firefighters on the scene. we know the fire is under control but no word on what started it and no one there was hurt. in philadelphia's germantown section. police are trying to figure out what started this house fire near the corner of north 21st and west 65th avenue. this happened around 5:30 this morning and crews were able to put the flames out a short time later. police say everyone did make it out safely. and police are investigating a gas station robbery in north

philadelphia. this happened on north broad street around 2:00 this morning. police say a man went into the gas station with a gun but it's still unclear what he took when he left. the employee inside was not hurt and police are still looking for a suspect. another mild december day but pretty windy outside as you see the flag flapping at the air mark building. a live look at center city, philadelphia. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist glaurts glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the windy forecast. glenn? >> if we didn't have any past weather, we would say today is an unusually mild day except that it's ten degrees colder than yesterday. we have a fair amount of sunshine, flags blowing hard. we have wind coming in and eventually bring us cooler werth. not that much cooler, 60 degrees. the average high is 45.

the day care is telling parents to make sure to bring the kids inside the building and report suspicious activity. police say they plan to patrol the area. a philadelphia police

officer could be released from the hospital today after he was injured in a hit-and-run. investigators say the officer was responding to reports of a person with a gun last night when a man in a car with two other passengers drove his vehicle toward the officer. the officer hit the wind shield, broke his leg and had cuts to his head. the car and the passengers were located, but the driver did get away. a stray bullet hits an 11-year-old walking home from school and this morning police are looking for the gunman who pulled the trigger. investigators say the gunman was shooting at another man on franklin and lucerne in the hunting park section of philadelphia yesterday afternoon. the young victim was caught in the cross fire. a bullet hitter in the foot. she's expected to make a full recovery but neighbors are angry that someone could open fire in broad daylight on a busy street. >> innocent kid getting shot. it's a shame. i'm frustrated. this is crazy. stop the violence.

>> police say the gunman was last seen wearing a black skull cap and a shirt with a large dragon on the front. police are trying to find a man who robbed a restaurant in northwest philadelphia. this happened yesterday before 5:00 p.m. when a man pulled a handgun on an employee at the crown chicken restaurant and demanded money. the suspect ran from the restaurant with an unknown amount of cash. fortunately no one was hurt. in center city, the fbi is asking for the public's help finding the man who robbed a bank yesterday. authorities say a man entered a pnc bank at 11th and market streets around 2:00 p.m. he handed the teller a note demanding money. after getting an undisclosed amount of cash the suspect left on foot. if you happen to recognize him or know the suspect, you're asked to call police. another bank robbery in philadelphia's frankford neighborhood is keeping detectives busy. police are trying to figure out who robbed a citizens bank yesterday afternoon around 12:45.

the man was wearing a 76ers cap and took off after demanding and getting cash from the teller. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane is facing more legal trouble. a legal aide is filing a wrongful termination lawsuit against her. her spokesman and chief of staff, george moore, a former human resources analyst, says he was fired for recommending that kane's chief of staff be terminated over sexual harassment complaints. moore says he recommended the firing just two days before the chief of staff was promoted to be kane's top administrator. today the last day to sign up for health insurance coverage through the healthcare.gov marketplace. it's the deadline to enroll in a new plan or change an existing plan for coverage starting january 1. if you elect a pass on health insurance in 2016, just be prepared to pay up. the penalty is $695, or 2.5% of your income, which ever is higher. and today federal and health

officials in our area are promoting that enrollment deadline. leaders from the u.s. small business administration are meeting with businesses in philadelphia and in norristown who say they are benefitting from the record number of americans eligible for health care. happening today from our delaware bureau, a state-sanctioned deer hunt is taking place in northern newcastle county. hundreds can participate in the annual controlled deer hunt at brandywine creek state park. the park will be closed to the general public. the delaware department of natural resources and environmental control sanctions the hunt every year to help stop habitat damage caused by the deer. happening now, uber is announcing it's expanding its safe rides program in burlington county to help stop drunk driving. uber is building on a pilot program it started last december called "don't take the risk." now it will include voorhis. the program allows evesham

>> i want to see how this plays out. >> reporter: with this crowded and contentious field of republicans there hasn't been as much attention on the democrats. they've got a debate coming up this weekend saturday in new hampshire. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. democratic presidential hopeful hillary clinton is unveiling her plan to strengthen our nation's defense against terrorism. clinton will deliver a speech at the university of minnesota later today. an aide says she'll propose a strategy to address every step of the process that could lead to an attack like the one that occurred in san bernardino. turning to the budget battle in washington where congress is closing in on a spending bill and a tax package. the $1.1 trillion spending bill avoids a government shutdown, but the tax package extends dozens of tax breaks. speaker paul ryan says the bills contain victories for both parties. and secretary of state john kerry met with russian foreign minister sergei lavrov today. the two talked about a political transition to end syria's civil

war and restore stability in eastern ukraine. is later kerry will meet with russian president vladimir putin. this is kerry's second trip to russia this year. and the u.s. government is calling for expanded online security screening measures in the wake of the terror attacks in san bernardino. officials say long before tashfeen malik filed for a fiance visa to come to the u.s. she expressed support for violent jihad in online posts. new protocols are being considered in congress to more thoroughly check the social media accounts of all these applicants. a space capsule carrying astronauts from the u.s., britain and russia blasted off for the international space station today. the capsule is scheduled to dock with the other bitting laboratory later today. the launch went off without any hitches and the capsule entered orbit about nine minutes after liftoff. on board are nasa's timothy copra, briton's timothy peak and

russian yuri pmalenchenko. spell spend six months aboard the space station. the weather has been exceptionally warm during the month of december that today, 15 degrees above normal, feels a little cool. everything is relative. we've got gusty winds today making it feel cooler. we're tracking heavy rain that will come in within a couple of days and a weekend cold blast. the first cold blast of the season. the first time the temperature is going to be going below the freezing mark in philadelphia. it's pretty late to get the first freeze. the live pictures showing some fair weather clouds in the western sky. it's 60 degrees now. the wind 24 miles an hour sustained and we're close to the same temperature as yesterday but we won't be warming up. we'll be gradually cooling down today.

the mid-50s to near 60 degrees. 60 also in wilmington, 61 in atlantic city, 59 in millville. 60 in dover, we here in the 70s in dover yesterday. not going to get there today. look at these wind gusts out of the west, 35 miles an hour in philadelphia, northeast philly. 33 in trenton and also in mount pocono and that's about as strong as the wind is going to be. this is what's so amazing. four days in a row with record warmth. a record for today set just after midnight, 69 degrees and we could see some more records before this month is over. there's the mild air with us now. it starts to move out as we go into friday and saturday. we definitely get cold. it's going to feel cold over the weekend, especially saturday and saturday night and into sunday morning. but then watch what happens next week. we start getting the mild air back. there's tuesday and we're mild

again. the cold air disappears and by christmas eve we could be in record levels again. record warmth, temperatures in the 60s at least and no chance of a white christmas. then there's christmas day still on the mild side, the cold air is far, far away. futurecast shows the dry conditions that we're going to be seeing for the rest of the day today and into tonight and into tomorrow but a little moisture starting to come in off the ocean. as you can see first the clouds and the run a coming from the southwest. that's a big blob of rain. thursday morning and into the afternoon so some of that is going to be on the heavy side. it's not going to last all day. for the rest of the day. 15 to a 25, gusting to 35 miles an hour. the temperatures level or falling a little bit this afternoon.

and then the seven-day forecast still rather mild tomorrow with less wind. temperatures way above average again, 57. similar story for thursday except for the run a and then windy and colder conditions coming up friday. it will be a cold weekend. then there we go sunday morning down into the 20s and a chilly afternoon for the eagles. taking unhappiness to the extreme. watch what a motel customer did with an argument at the front desk of this motel. what authorities say made the driver so upsaid and the charges he's facing. and later, it's up to you. a sneak peek at tonight's season finale of "the voice" and who could be crowned champion of season nine coming up.

working there. that's where the birds will take on the arizona cardinals in the sunday night matchup that you can see right here on nbc 10. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now with our forecast. hey, glenn. >> vai, the eagles will be playing much colder weather sunday night than they did this past sunday. a lot colder. but pretty good weather. the folks in the pocono mountains pretty disappointed. the slopes totally bare at camelback and generally even if they don't get actual snow it's cold enough to make snow. so that slope should be covered in white and it's just too warm for even that. it's 48 degrees in mount pocono now. mid-50s north and west, 60 degrees in philadelphia, wilmington, dover 61 in atlantic city and in wild wood and north and west it is cooling off some, eight degrees colder than this time yesterday in reading so some of that colder air trying to come in during the afternoon

and coming in with these gusty winds, winds gusting 25 to 35 miles an hour. 37 miles an hour wind gusts right now at atlantic city international. so it's a windy afternoon but it's really not that cold for this time of the year, just colder than the four days of record-breaking warmth that we've seen recently. so still 61 degrees by 1:00 but that's a strong wind and gradually getting a little cooler as we head toward the afternoon rush and even at 7:00, again, that's not a very cold temperature at all. but there is some cold air that's in the seven-day forecast along with heavy rain and i'll have the timing on all that with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> thank you, glenn. a texas man is facing serious charges after he rammed his pickup truck right through the lobby of an oklahoma hotel. nbc's natalie morales explains what made the driver so angry many the first place. >> reporter: shocking new video released monday shows the heart-stopping moments for two employees at an oklahoma hotel

after a disgruntled guest crashed his truck into the front desk. the driver, identified by police as john edward parsley can at first be seen talking with a police officer last thursday outside the alva comfort in and suites about 110 miles northwest of oklahoma city. surveillance video shows parsley crashing his 2006 sierra gmc through the hotel entrance in the front desk as two women frantically dive for safety. parsley backs up the truck, stops, then pulls back into the lobby. he says something to the women, gets out of the truck and calmly walks back to the entrance with his hands raised. the 62-year-old man was reportedly upset his credit card had been declined twice. according to a local newspaper, parsley told police he drove into the hotel because hotel staff thought he was bluffing and he proved he wasn't. no one was injured but the lobby of the alva comfort inn and suites was severely damaged.

parsley, from gonzalez, texas, was held on a million dollars bond monday night on two felony counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of malicious injury to property. >> that was natalie morales reporting. baseball legend pete rose's appeal to be reinstated back into the game has been denied. mlb commissioner rob man ford says he made that decision based on new evidence that includes bets that rose placed on the cincinnati reds back in 1986 when he was the team's manager. rose also admitted that he still bets on baseball as well as other sports. he was banned for life in 1989. rose is not eligible for the hall of fame. he is baseball's all-time hit leader. the season finale of "the voice" is tonight and we'll find without is crowned champion of season 9. stephanie stanton has this preview of tonight's showdown. ♪ after all

here's what may be some bad news for those presidential hopefuls leading the polls. a new harvard university study finds politicians elected to the head of government may age faster and die earlier compared with those who didn't win.

researchers studied 300 elected leaders in 17 countries and found those politicians live nearly three years less and had a 23% increased risk of early death than runners up. traveling for the holidays can be exhausting for everyone but what if you're vacationing with an older parent or grandparent. there are special considerations that you need to keep in mind. bob hanson has more. >> reporter: people of all ages like to travel but as we get older those travel plans can come with complications. >> some seniors can travel, they have to take precaution ahead of time and if the doctor says it's okay, go for it. >> reporter: brianne bream is with maxim companion services. she says medical care is a top priority when seniors travel out of town and it's smart to know what's available and what doctors and hospitals are in your network frchif there's a problem. >> have a list of doctors offices near you and see if they

take your insurance. you can do that to make sure you're safe. >> reporter: loved ones can help their relatives by arranging medication, especially when it comes to time changes. but not everyone should hit the road. >> if you've recently had surgery or your immune system is permanently compromise, i would suggest having your family come to you instead. >> reporter: the challenge for families is often caring for older relatives and young children at the same time. some folks will travel with a caregiver, others might hire one when they get to their final destination. maxim companion services says they arrange both short term and long-term care for families. one other important piece of advice when traveling with seniors? don't overdo it. >> make sure you are getting rest. make sure you're not filling that itinerary to the full and enjoy your time. >> a private caregiver often costs between $21 and $25 an hour. a new study finds it's taking an average of nearly seven days or 20% longer than

last year for orders placed on cyber monday to arrive. more packages are also being shipped. retailers offering free shipping are tending to choose slower and cheaper ways to ship. plus, more packages are being shipped. u.p.s. and fedex built out their holiday networks to what the retailer said they needed this year, but online sales were higher through thanksgiving weekend. the season -- it's a season for parties and situations and the holiday season is also one of the most dangerous times of the year on the roads. the national highway traffic safety administration says there were 945 drunk driving deaths across the country between thanksgiving and new year's eve alone and mothers against drunk driving is doing its part to keep everyone safe this holiday season. malcolm friend is from the pennsylvania madd office and he's here with us this evening. the cdc came out with a study showing fewer teens and young adults are driving drunk but there's a lot of work to be

done. tell us how serious a problem drunk driving is and what madd is doing about it today. >> drunk driving continues to be a very important issue, not the least this time of the year as we get into the holiday season and with one of the strategies people might think about this year as they're planning their parties is uber have come out with a new program called uber events and anybody who goes to the uber events page -- it benefits madd but ties in neatly with our core mission of ending drunk driving. >> how did you get connected with uber? did you reach out to them and say you guys have provided a service, it looks like something that could help our mission and what we do and it's a good marriage, let's get together? >> uber are national partners for madd and have been for some time. the reason is they clearly

provide one more option for people to plan ahead and not have to drive on the roads drunk and try to put that into some kind of parameters here. if the link was filled 80%, that would equate the number of people who have been arrested for dui in pennsylvania alone in the last year so we would love to see people plan ahead, use a ride share service like uber, book a hotel rather than drive drunk this holiday season. >> let me be clear here. is it always free with uber? i know there's some communities who are providing uber free for people using their bars and restaurants over the holidays or is it free across the board with madd over the holiday season using uber. >> it's not a free service. and it's a particular partnership and particular area of the uber site grow to to

>> one year ago, the five-day forecast in buffalo was looking at a warming trend in the 30s and 40s. hard to believe. this mild december is impacting winter sports in northern new england. eight of vermont's ski areas have opened but several have had to delay their starts because of a lack of snow. the number of open resorts is expected to climb to 12, however, this weekend but they say they need more snow and much colder air. and they're not going to get either. not going to get snow and not going to get much colder air, even in new england, let alone dun in this area. we have gusty winds today but it's not especially bringing in very cold air. we are tracking some heavy rain coming in in a couple of days and then real cold air. but it's only going to last a couple of days and it's not really that cold historically

speaking, just relative. there's the flag blowing, we have gusty winds out there this afternoon. 60 degrees. the wind 24 miles an hour, gusting up to 35 just during the last hour or so. and there we go, four days in a row with record high temperatures in philadelphia. today's record set just after midnight with 69 degrees. and the average is 45. so here we are today right around the 60-degree mark and it seems a little cooler but it's still 15 degrees above normal. well, it's 54 in quakertown, one of the cool spots, 55 in allentown, reading, pottstown, 56 in doylestown and coatesville. 55 in kenett square. 58 in different trenton, 59 in wrightstown. these temperatures would be considered extremely warm for this time of year if we didn't just have four days of records. 60 degrees in delaware, even the

ocean temperature is above normal. 10 to 15 degrees above. here are the sustained winds now ranging up to 24 miles an hour sustained in philadelphia and in trenton. that's pretty strong winds. and it's going to bring in a little bit cooler air. we're going to have to wait until friday and the weekend to get some actual cold air in here and get the first freeze in philadelphia officially of the whole season. not until this weekend. but then it doesn't last because here we go. early next week the mild air comes right back and it stays with us through the week, we could see record warmth for christmas eve, for example, and still warm on christmas day. things are pretty quiet today. we have some fair weather clouds coming in with those westerly winds. but as we go into thursday, things will be changing. first we have a little low level wind coming in off the ocean and

then here comes this small but kind of powerful disturbance from the southwest. you can see some pretty heavy rain coming in there at 11:00 a.m. how much rain? just in a relatively short period of time we're not talking about much by 8:00 a.m. but it could be an inch or more, especially to the south by friday afternoon. thursday afternoon. now for the rest of today it's windy, highs in the upper 50s, low 60s. temperatures leveling off or going down a bit. winds gusting to 35 miles an hour. thunderstorm and thursday way above average. gusty winds bringing colder weather on friday and then one legitimately cold day, saturday, when you add in the wind in, we'll have windchills and saturday night is the coldest and by the time the eagles are playing sunday night it should be down into the lower 40s
