the hospital earlier this morning. police hope somebody recognizes this suspect maybe by the shopping bag he was carrying or what he was wearing, because at this point there's no motive, and the victims in both cases have no idea who this suspect is. in the meantime, neighbors around this area of center city say they are not necessarily surprised because it can happen anywhere and for that reason they say it's important to be vigilant no matter where you live, run, or walk in philadelphia. >> today's world you have to be watching everything very carefully. >> have city it's more heavily patrolled, tend to see more protection down in this area regardless of what's going on. >> reporter: the second incident happened just about here where i'm standing on 21st street near arch. the victim in this case was slashed in the face. there is surveillance video of some of that encounter, i watched it earlier today and not too long ago spoke to police, they say they are going to take a second look at it because they

may end up releasing that to the public, as well. they want as many tips as possible because there is no motive. reporting live, rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. new information on a story we've been following all day out of east mount airy. police say the investigation into raw meat found on a muslim man's front steps is a domestic incident and not a hate crime. tyree price says he was praying on a neighbor's porch yesterday, he says he believes someone left pork wrapped in a muslim newspaper there to intimidate him. muslim dietary laws forbid eating pork. police tell nbc 10 the medical examiner's office is examining the meat. a delaware county police force is showing support for the muslim community. the upper darby police department stood side by side with muslim leaders today. the police superintendent says his department has worked with the islamic community to address concerns. muslims were there to denounce isis and affirm their status as americans.

justice for brandon tate brown. today marks exactly one year since a philadelphia police officer shot and killed brown during a traffic stop. officers say tate brown was reaching for a loaded gun. >> i want accountability. i want my son's side heard, and i want a judge to hear it and then determine who was right and who was wrong. >> the philadelphia district attorney ruled the use of deadly force was not a crime. new at 6:00, a shoplifting ring busted in south jersey. 13 people indicted on charges they took $100,000 worth of clothes from marshall's and tj maxx. the two alleged ring leaders are alicia blackburn and robert campbell, who live together in galloway, they are the top two on the left there. stores in eight counties across

south jersey and the jersey shore were hit from july of last year until this past august. to our weather now, the wind kind of cooled things off today, but still a lot warmer than normal. >> it really is and that's going to change, though, as temperatures are dropping. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with more on that change in the air. glenn? >> yeah, a bit of a change today and tonight, more significant later in the week, and into the weekend when we're actually going to feel like winter out here. but we certainly haven't the last four days. four days in a row of record high temperatures in philadelphia. the current one occurred just after midnight, 69 degrees beat the old record by three degrees. 55 degrees at philadelphia now, 49 in pottstown and reading. 50s across much of the rest of the area, which, of course, is way above average. we still have some wind gusts, 20 to 25 miles an hour, not nearly as windy as it was just a couple of hours ago. and that wind will continue to diminish as we head through the

evening and overnight. it will be cooler than it's been several nights, but nothing exceptional for december. we have some heavy rain and that cold air in the seven day forecast with the timing in just a few minutes. the search for a missing cape may county teenager lead police to a body inside a vacant home today. family reported nicole angstadt missing two weeks ago, police haven't identified the body found inside the basement. detectives carried big evidence bags from the home and focused on an outdoor pool there. investigators have been showing a photo of angstadt to residents who lived nearby. one beer changed a man's life, he blamed the drink for permanent injuries. >> and he just filed a lawsuit against the restaurant and two local beer distributors. the man told jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg the beer was contaminated with a cleaning solution.

>> it was direly wrong, and i knew i was in trouble. >> reporter: more than three years after richard washart says he took a single gulp of tainted beer, the retired ocean city police officer says his health continues to suffer. >> no one would ever expect to go into a restaurant and have this happen to them. >> reporter: washart says he immediately felt searing pain, then began vomiting blood that night in november 2012 in atlantic city, poison, he says, by a corrosive cleaning product remaining in a beer dispensing line. >> and it just continued and continued. nothing would relieve it. >> definitely stressful. you always just question when is the next episode. >> reporter: washart and his wife cynthia, an emergency room nurse for nearly 30 years, have filed this lawsuit claiming mccormick and schmick and two local beer distributors hired to clean the beer lines were negligent. the defendants did not respond

to my request for comment, but in court documents deny wrong doing. >> none of the employees of the defendants are accepting responsibility. this case eventually will go to trial, but we could a trial if there are people out there that know exactly what happened to come forward and to contact us. >> my future's uncertain, as far as the medical side of it goes. >> reporter: the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. washart says he also wants those involved in the food and beverage industry to be more careful. at the jersey shore bureau, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. a jury will begin deliberations tomorrow in the trial of a bucks county woman accused of hurling homophobic slurs and throwing punches at a gay couple. >> kathryn knott took the stand in her own defense today. kathryn knott is the daughter of a police chief. she faces years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault and other charges. she and two other men were tracked down by surveillance images from september of last

year. prosecutors say the trio attacked the gay couple on a center city street. knott's two co-defendants pleaded guilty. along with probation, they were also barred from going downtown. a south jersey man is behind bars accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. michael goodwin abused his girlfriend's child. that launched an investigation last week and made the investigation today. jerry sandusky will keep his pension. they will not repeal a court order restoring the benefits to the former coach. sandusky will start collecting almost $5,000 a month. that money stopped three years ago when he was sentenced to prison for molesting children. the court ruled sandusky was not an employee at the time of the crimes. republican presidential contenders meet in las vegas tonight for their last debate of 2015. donald trump leads in the polls, but ted cruz is surging. the debate tonight is inside the venetian hotel in vegas. the voting in iowa begins in

just seven weeks. new jersey governor chris christie made the cut and will appear on the main stage. we'll have coverage tonight on nbc 10 news at 11:00. philadelphia is making it easier for people will criminal records to have a fair chance at finding jobs. mayor nutter's signature made changes today, preventing employers from asking job applicants to disclose criminal history. the changes include making it apply to all city employers, both public and private. until now the bill applied only to employers with ten or more workers. the holiday spirit is gone in the lehigh valley. 400 people will lose their jobs just after the holidays. mack trucks incorporated announced the layoffs today at its manufacturing facility. the job cuts take effect january 25th. officials with mack trucks say demand for trucks is down and that's to blame for the layoffs. the lehigh valley plant has more than 1,800 workers.

this just in, prosecutors have indicted an atlantic county principal on theft charges. they've been investigating her for a year, principal in atlantic city. she's currently suspended. prosecutors say she pocketed $10,000 meant to be used for the school. there are only ten days left until christmas, and cyber monday is still impacting the holiday shipping season. >> nbc 10's doug shimell shows us the mad rush to get packages to your loved ones by christmas. >> reporter: halloween isn't the only scary time leading into the holiday shopping season. >> what frightens me is going to the post office where you stand in line for a half hour. >> reporter: at box, pack, and ship in king of prussia, marlene

the store, pick up the gift and bring it to an independent shipper, that way you know it's getting out the door, but even better than that, if you can do it, give the gift in person. in king of prussia, doug shimell, nbc 10 news. uber is building on a pilot program that started last december in evesham township called don't take the risk. now it will include another township, allowing residents to take free uber rides home from bars and restaurants using an app on their smartphone. police are counting on the program to save lives. >> i'm very confident again based on what's happened in evesham, the program has been successful and if we can save one life or keep one impaired driver off the roadway, as far as i'm concerned, that's a success. >> reporter: uber calls it a sustainable model and practical solution to a real problem. restaurants will have to pay into the program for it to continue if the pilot phase is a success. new at 6:00, an observation tower in camden is now a no go.

the $5 million sky view tower is no longer in the works. adventure aquarium's parent company planned to fund the project two years ago. the attraction would have given visitors a 360-degree view of camden, philadelphia, and the suburbs. the exact reason why the tower won't be built was not revealed. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we're in the midst of what is likely to be the warmest december ever recorded in this area, with four straight record high temperatures, including today. we're tracking some heavy rain, bit of an interruption in this extreme warmth, along with this weekend cold blast. warm air is coming back next week and may include more record warmth right in time, for example, christmas eve and there's zero chance of a white christmas around here or much of we have great visibility now,

it's 55 degrees, still pretty windy, 20 miles an hour winds and 11 degrees colder than this time yesterday, but the temperatures still way above average, 46 in mount pocono, 49 in reading, doylestown, westchester, 47 in lancaster, you can see low 50s across much of the region. and this is right now ten degrees above the average high temperature for this time of the year. we're really getting spoiled, but not so in the rockies. 19 degrees in denver right now, so there is some cold air somewhere in the country, but not in much of the country. it's 70 in dallas right now. a lot of warm air across the south and some of that's going to be coming right back here as you'll see. first of all, the colder air starts gradually coming in. by saturday we're going to feel it. it's going to be maybe one cold day of the month. and then it's going to start warming up. yeah, seasonally chilly. then the mild air comes back and

by next tuesday, 60s. by wednesday, farther up in the 60s. by thursday, christmas eve, 60s, maybe even near 70 degrees. and the warm air will go all the way up to chicago and detroit. amazing pattern continues. we continue to see dry weather tonight and into tomorrow. some clouds start to come in from the ocean late tomorrow and tomorrow night. more moisture ahead of this next system. it's a small one, but it's fairly powerful. so not a whole lot around for the morning rush, but look at the wave of rain coming through very quickly later on during the morning and into the afternoon, especially delaware and south jersey getting some pretty heavy rain with that, and the amounts of rain, have computer models suggesting the heaviest rain falls to the south and most of it falls thursday afternoon. there's an inch for philly and more than an inch farther to the
