on the hunt. >> reporter: police now also sitting in cars undercover to catch them. >> all my guys as i'm dressed today are in plain clothes in parking lots looking for these type of people preying upon these victims, these shoppers. >> reporter: police in the area right now are asking shoppers to take a friend and not turn your back on your belongings, specifically your purse or your purchases when you're putting them from the shopping cart into your car. live, cydney long, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for those tips, cydney. two school employees charged with assaulting two teenagers with special needs. prosecutors say the crimes happened earlier this month at the bancroft campus. surveillance video shows the two beating a 14-year-old boy with a belt. a 19-year-old student was restrained under a desk. the two were arrested yesterday. police released this statement saying in part, we have a zero

tolerance policy towards any action that would endanger or purposefully injure an individual served at bancroft. a delaware pastor and his congregation are getting a first look at their fire-damaged church. this is the second fire here in two weeks. delaware bureau reporter tim furlong was there as firefighters battled the blaze. live in wilmington where investigators are sifting through the debris behind you, tim? >> reporter: jacqueline, last night i was here and there was some hope, talk at that point that the church might be able to be saved, wibut you can see thas not going to happen, they've been tearing down the walls today. a family built the church decades ago by hand by literally combining two houses and gutting it into a big church. this is what remains of their blood, sweat, and tears. this was the loss of the pastor

of the church to take. seeing the bricks of the church crumble. last night we showed you a viewer's drone video of the fire that ripped through the church from directly overhead you can see the roof collapse. the crew at the restaurant across the street watched it happen. >> all of a sudden we heard a boom and we were like what's going on? oh, my gosh. then we went out there and the church just fell. >> reporter: the families from the damaged town homes next door still aren't allowed home. today officials and agents looked through the debris, went door to door looking for information and surveillance video that might show how this started or who might have started it. why federal agents? >> because of the possible hate crime that may be associated with the incident. >> reporter: i'm told that's standard procedure with church affiliated incidents and as i told you last night, this is actually the second fire at this 51-year-old church in the last two weeks. a neighbor gave me photos from the still unsolved fire. did somebody set this fire?

what's your gut tell you? >> i don't want to speculate on that, because my speculation could be wrong. >> reporter: the pastor wants to know why this happened and is working out a community center where his congregation can come together. his church is gone, the spirit of the place lives on. and fire investigators just wrapping up their investigation for the day, but the cleanup is going to continue, everyone was walking through the debris taking pictures. they are going to bring in arson dogs to sniff for accelerants and every now and then investigators take pieces of the burned debris to an empty lot to examine them one by one to see what caused this fire. again, at this point, they are not ready to say what or who caused this fire. we'll keep you posted and make the calls for you. live in wilmington, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. felony charges for a delaware county woman accused of stealing $10,000 from a woman in her care. she was hired to be a companion for a 90-year-old woman, given

tina frick's debit card and pin. the person with frick's power of attorney got suspicious when $10,000 was taken. detectives tell us smith claims frick instructed her to take the money. frick said that never happened. i may be up in age, she's quoted as saying, but i'm not naive. we have new information about a local mom whose car was stolen with her children inside. she is now charged with abuse and neglect. police say she left her two children inside her car and went into a magnolia liquor store saturday night. while she was shopping, the car was stolen. the thief led police on a chase, which ended with a crash into another car. the suspect is charged, the kids are okay. nbc 10 has learned the names of an 82-year-old man stabbed to death in his home and his son charged with the murder. his son, 29-year-old victor

gethers. detectives say they found the knife used to murder the elderly man inside his home in overbrook last night. neighbors say solomon was terminally ill and his family was caring for him. lots of questions from the jury and a secret meeting in the courtroom. those are the two headlines today in the trial of a woman accused of assaulting a gay couple in center city, philadelphia. today is the second day of deliberations. kathryn knott facesing ing aggr assault and other charges. deanna durante is in the courtroom right now and sent us this report. >> reporter: the jury is deliberating for a second full day trying to determine if kathryn knott of bucks county was one of the people behind an assault on two men back in september 2014. the jury has come back with a number of questions. they've been read the crimes code when it pertains to conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person. they've also asked for statements that knott may have

given to police back during the investigation. it was on september 11th, 2014, when two men were walking near 16th and chancellor and they were assaulted. one man so severely his jaw had to be wired shut. now, chose victims have been in the courtroom today, along with knott's family. at one point the entire courtroom was sealed. the only people allowed in, the attorneys for both sides and knott. no one else was in the courtroom or allowed to hear what was going on, and because of a gag order in this case, even though we have asked that question, we have not been given an answer because all parties are prevented from talking about the case. but again, this jury must decide if knott was there, if she threw a punch or uttered any slurs to the two men who, again, are in the courtroom also awaiting that verdict. outside the criminal justice center, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. now to what could be one of the most decisive days for atlantic city in decades.

new jersey lawmakers are working on two measures that could radically change the gambling landscape in the state. lawmakers are expected to vote on a financial aid package to help bail out atlantic city. it is still struggling to recover from the closing of four casinos last year. lawmakers are also considering two proposals that would let voters decide whether to allow two new casinos in north jersey. a vote could come next week. now that the budget stalemate in harrisburg, still no deal to tell you about, but tom wolf's administration and allies are trying today to get house republicans to agree on a tax and spending measure to put an end to this log jam. a deadline of 12:30 this afternoon was set to show wolf could assemble enough votes to move the tax package through the chamber but the governor and majority leader downplayed that ultimatum. deep public school funding cuts and narrow a long-term budget

deficit and give counties more money for social services. two people are dead after a man raced through parts of oklahoma firing randomly from his pickup truck. a man surrendered earlier today. authorities say there are so many people with bullet wounds, it's unlikely the suspect knew the victims. police are describing the violence as road rage. federal prosecutors could bring charges as soon as today against a friend of one of the san bernardino shooters. law enforcement officials tell nbc news enrique marquez will face a long list of charges for buying two assault rifles for syed rizwan farook. marquez said he did it as a favor to farook so farook would not have to go through a background check. the guns purchased two years ago were used by farook and his wife to kill 14 people at a holiday luncheon. president obama is heading to san bernardino tomorrow to visit the shooting victims and their families. national security is topic one today for president obama. he says u.s. intelligence knows

of no specific threat of a terrorist attack during the holidays. the president made this announcement today as he met with top security advisers at the national counterterrorism center near washington, d.c. after the san bernardino shooting, the president has tried to reassure americans that his administration is doing everything it can to fight isis, but the president warns everyone should stay vigilant over the holidays. >> it also means staying united as one american family. remembering that our greatest allies in this fight are each other, americans of all faiths and all backgrounds. and when americans stand together, nothing can beat us. >> yesterday the department of homeland security announced a new alert system to inform the public about potential terrorist threats. a pharmaceutical company ceo famous for raising the price of a life saving drug by 5,000% is pleading not guilty to federal fraud charges. the news of his arrest set off

celebration on social media. this is video of him being arrested this morning, the one wearing the gray sweatshirt. the fbi accuses him of illegally taking stock from a firm he started. last september he announced he was raising the cost of an hiv drug from $13.50 to $750 per pill. he responded to the criticism saying he would lower the price, then changed his mind. no word on a possible retrial of a baltimore police officer charged in the death of freddie gray. a court spokesperson says lawyers have to do more work before setting the date for a possible trial. yesterday a hung jury prompted a judge to declare a mistrial on all four charges against william porter, including manslaughter. the jury deliberated for about 16 hours over three days. porter, the first of six baltimore police officers to face trial after freddie gray died last april. gray broke his neck while handcuffed and shackled in a police van.

his death set off protests and rioting in baltimore. prosecutors argued porter was negligent for not calling a medic when gray asked to go to a hospital. the pentagon acknowledges today that defense secretary ash carter used a personal e-mail account to do his job. the pentagon spokesperson released a statement saying carter admits he made a mistake his first few months on the job but he never sent any classified material. the statement also said carter no longer uses his personal e-mail for government work. this comes as carter arrived in iraq earlier today. he reportedly continued to use private e-mail even after news broke out about hillary clinton using her personal e-mail server to do official business as secretary of state. clinton has been ordered to make the e-mails public. in decision 2016, a date is officially set for the first presidential primary. new hampshire will hold its primary elections on tuesday, february 9th, so the state will keep its first in the nation primary status.

the political world has long assumed that would be the date, but new hampshire second secretary of state made an official announcement today. the primary will come eight days after iowa holds its caucuses on february 1st. today bernie sanders scored one of his biggest endorsements yet. the powerful communications workers of america announced it is backing sanders. the union represents 700,000 workers nationally. sanders has lost out to hillary clinton on a series of union endorsements recently. all right, get your light sabers and storm trooper costume ready, jackie, this is the day star wars fans have been waiting for and movie theaters across our area are ready. the force awakens tonight. advanced ticket sales for the force awakens have topped $100 million according to the hollywood reporter, four times more than the previous record. some believe the star wars film could pull in a record breaking

degrees, the wind is very light, it's five degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday, and the records we had monday and tuesday, somewhat cooler wednesday, warmer today, despite the rain, and then 49 degrees during the day tomorrow. then even colder on saturday. right now we are in the low 50s. the wind is light and kind of variable. arrows going every which direction. 50 degrees one of the cool spots and 57 and over towards the show it's pretty warm. 61 atlantic city airport, 60 in woodbine. when it's raining like that to be that mild this time of the year is unusual. there is colder air back to the west. not bitterly cold, but at least cold. and as that comes in on saturday we'll definitely notice that. there's the radar and you can see the rain ending from west to east across the area.

the heaviest rain right now in portions of montgomery county, another little patch right near south philly, but we're going to be seeing some very rapid changes here, especially already happening in chester county, western percents of chester county, already seeing that rain shut off. on the wider view you can see it, too. this is just three hours worth of radar and it is just racing to the east finally. and that's going to set us up for some drier weather. now as we go through the night tonight, the clouds start to move out, we get sunshine, especially north and west during the day tomorrow. we go from clouds to sunshine, northwest winds come in, breezy day, and, of course, it's colder. but when you add the wind to what we're seeing coming up on saturday, it's going to feel like i'm at 18 in reading. wind chill by saturday morning, 22 degrees in philadelphia, and

even later in the morning, midday hours it's still feeling like it's in the 20s in some areas to the north and west. so as we go through the night tonight, the rain ends early, the clouds will be lingering. 44 degrees for the low in philadelphia and 40 north and west. it's not all that cold by morning, and then as we go through the day tomorrow, we have clouds giving way to sunshine. it's going to be breezy, it's going to be colder than today, but we're not talking about really cold for this time of the year, so that is really going to be the interesting thing about the weather over the next 24 hours. and then as we go towards the seven day forecast, you're going to be seeing the eagles playing in kind of chilly weather, but then it really warms up next week, and by christmas eve, i'm predicting a record of 70 degrees. >> wow. a local law firm arranged a

following breaking news in pennsylvania, a pennsylvania man accused with spreading isis propaganda. the 19-year-old of harrisburg was arrested today for trying to provide support to isis. prosecutors say he used at least 57 different twitter accounts, also he tried to help people in their attempt to travel overseas to join the terrorist organization. florida's three largest amusement parks are adding something new, extra security. disney world, seaworld, and universal studios are beefing up security inside and outside venues ahead of the busy holiday season and that includes the addition of metal detectors. disney is also no longer allowing guests 14 years and older to wear costumes into its parks. in addition, disney is

officials call a poorly run government may be to blame for potentially unsafe conditions for renters. >> this is a story anyone can learn from no matter where you live. harry, what do we need to know about this? >> well, if you're renting you need to know if your landlord has a renters license for your own safety. as we learned renters in colwyn may be living in properties not up to code and when we asked the borough for the records, well, they couldn't supply them. >> if he knows the bedbugs were in there, why did he even take my money to where he knew they were in there, before i even supported the profits. >> april is fed up with being bitten by bedbugs. >> i have pictures showing the property is unlivable. >> reporter: at a council meeting last month, reid showed us dozens of bug bites on her and her daughter's body. she blames her landlord, council president fred leiser, but he

show us licenses, but did tell us how he fixes up his rental properties. >> just like up there when i put the roof on, i kept the pole gutters, original pole gutters. >> reporter: the state appointed administrator says the borough is supposed to keep copies of the licenses. we dug through the files and only found the rental licenses for 2014. o'rourke didn't have better luck. have you been able to locate any of his? >> no, i have not. i found his 2014 rental license renewal applications, but i have not found anything for 2015 so far. >> reporter: o'rourke tells us he could not find a current rental license for anyone. since rutland was fired, no one is maintaining code enforcement files for landlords according to o'rourke. >> without the license, the tenant has no way of knowing whether the property has been inspected for life safety issues. >> reporter: state officials

tell us some renters could lose their homes. >> they may have to leave if there's no rental license on the property. >> reporter: okay, what do you do if you want to make sure the place you're renting is safe? you can ask your landlord to see a rental license, or go to your government building and ask to see the license. ask for reid and her daughter, they have moved out of the apartment they are renting and now staying in motels. for the investigators, harry hairston, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> and we are tracking rain moving across the area. shopping has been a soggy experience at the king of prussia mall today. switching to a live picture of the center city skyline where you can see the thick clouds creeping in and rain will be a big factor into the evening commute. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is back and tracking the rain for us. glenn? >> yeah, and the conditions are a lot worse now than they are going to be toward the end of the afternoon rush.

you can see the headlights here, this is i-95 coming north from the airport. normally, of course, you can see much better. we have very low clouds, heavy rain moving through the area now, but those conditions are going to improve because look at this, we have a line that's dry to the left, it is wet to the right. everywhere. so let's go in and see where the heavier rain is. lower montgomery county and the southern half of bucks county, we've got northern burlington county getting heavier rain, mercer county getting heavy rain right now. you can see some of the heaviest is just crossed bucks county into new jersey. and farther to the south, the heavier rain in willingboro has moved out and that's moved to the east also. but you can also see the back edge of this, the rain just ended in exton and it's just about to end in eastern portions of chester county. it continues to move very rapidly from west to east.

we're just talking about three hours of movement here, so you can see how fast that is happening. and as we go through the evening, may have some lingering rain around by 6:00, but not later this evening. you're going to go out shopping or whatever, it's going to dry up, but it's certainly not going to cool down that fast. we'll tell you when it's going to get cold and how long with the seven day in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn. delaware state police are looking for a woman accused of robbing the same gas station two nights in a row. this woman along with a man with a gun robbed the clerk in new castle back on november 3rd, yeah, the next night police say the woman came back by herself with her own gun and robbed the place again. if you recognize her, you're asked to call police. in a little over a week stores, of course, will be flooded with people making holiday returns, but one picky thief is apparently getting a head start. this video shows the man stealing some packages from the front door of a texas home, but

apparently he didn't like everything that he took, so he returned some of the items, like a soap dispenser. so far police have not been able to find him. a former popular sitcom star will head to jail in the new year. former saved by the bell actor dustin diamond, you may know him as screech, will start serving his four-month jail sentence next month stemming from his involvement in a fight last christmas. diamond, screech, was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct. trader joe's saying one of its product could explode. plus, a new study shows a simple test could give women a better chance of beating ovarian cancer. next, the secret that could be hiding in your veins. and christmas card complaints. the popular online photo service that customers say is shipping orders too late.

ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest cancers. now new research suggests a blood test to screen for the disease may save lives. that blood test is called ca-125, and it measures an ovarian tumor marker. researchers in the uk found the test helped reduce the number of women dying from the disease by nearly 20%, but you won't see this blood test in your doctor's office any time soon. doctors need several more years of research to make sure it works the way this study suggests that it can. trader joe's is recalling one of its drinks after reports of the bottle suddenly bursting open. the recall impacts the triple ginger brew sold between november 9th and december 14th. if you bought the drink, throw it away in an outside container, then contact trader joe's for a full refund. we told you about a report that shows shipping companies are taking longer to ship packages this season. >> one company appears to be running behind getting orders out. >> an nbc 10 viewer told us they

are having issues getting the christmas cards they ordered from the photo company snapfish, so we checked their facebook page, it is loaded with complaints from people worried their personalized cards won't arrive in time for the holidays. one person posted, "i looked at their online chat and was number 406 in line to chat with a rep from customer support." snapfish posted on the page saturday warning of delays because of unprecedented order volume. then the company posted another message saying, "it is upgrading to expedited shipping for all stationary card orders placed prior to wednesday, december 9th, free of charge to customers and snapfish will e-mail people supplies, too." all cards printed on photo paper are shipping on schedule. >> that's a bit of a mess. >> how frustrating. >> yeah. >> just want it to get there in time. >> you do after you go through that work to pick the photographs. speaking of a mess, could be a messy ride home. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz

miss all the highlights, interviews, and reactions, as well, on nbc 10 game day final. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> and it's going to be dry for that eagles game, but a whole lot colder than it was last sunday. talking more like 40s going into the 30s as the game goes on. we've got some rain around and we've had it for hours, but it's ending quickly from west to east, as you'll see it. cold air starting to come in tonight, but it's really not going to be felt very much until saturday, and the christmas records still going for some record warmth next week as we head towards christmas eve. low clouds out there, but in the distance, it's brightening, that's a sign of things to come. 57 with rain in philly, 3 mile an hour wind right now. pretty mild, 51 in reading, pottstown, lancaster, 47 in

mount pocono, can't make any snow for a while and not getting any significant natural snow. might see some flurries there by tomorrow night and into saturday morning, but you can see we're near 60 degrees down toward the shore. so we're up close to 59 today, down to 49 friday, 39 on saturday, and wind on top of that. so we're going to be dealing with wind chills down in the 20s. haven't heard that term for a while, have we? well, you can see our areas cut in half, the west side is dry, the east side is all wet, and let's see where the edge of this is, just about to end right in portions of philadelphia. it is pretty much over in delds county, and in chester county and upper montgomery county, berks county it's over with, just ended in norristown, about to end in warrington, lower marion about to see it end and

it ended farther to the south. it's ended in northern delaware and even in salem county, new jersey. so it is ending very, very quickly. three hours of motion and you rarely see things move that fast out of the way. as we go towards 6:00, 7:00, we're going to be done with this. we're still going to keep the clouds, the temperature is not going to be dropping very much, as you can see as we go late tonight and into tomorrow morning. so this tonight is not the cold night. tomorrow night you'll feel it and then saturday night is the coldest, but there we are, some temperatures getting into the 30s north and west, then during the day tomorrow mostly just in the 40s. and for the eagles, as we see the game on sunday, started at 45, dropping to 38, not much wind, though, so pretty nice weather conditions for football. like i said, a lot colder than last sunday. the rain is ending quickly,

clouds linger, though, 44 for the low in philadelphia, 40 north and west. tomorrow, early clouds giving way to sunshine, breezy day, colder day, but that's still above average for this time of the year. and on saturday we finally start to get colder. 41 degrees for the high and winds gusting over 30 miles an hour. so yeah, that's cold. sunday morning is the coldest morning, and then we start to warm up. look what happens next week. by christmas eve, i'm predicting record warmth of 70 degrees. >> just amazing. and this unseasonably warm weather gives shoppers a chance to save big. >> retailers are stuck with too much winter clothing. next, the shops offering deep discounts to make a dent in their stockpiles and how much you could save. we work weekends here.

now. the umbrellas getting a workout today, a light rain started this morning and has gotten heavier throughout the afternoon. meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking the radar. >> sheena, the rain is moving out but is affecting some areas. >> we have some areas seeing rain, which we expected at least for part of the area for the evening commute, but areas west of philadelphia have started to clear out from the rain. we have some heavier pockets up around trenton and this could be impacting some traffic here on 295 up near trenton, bordentown and moving out of the philadelphia area is the rain now. seeing the cloudy skies, maybe some lingering sprinkles, but morristown is seeing the light, consistent rain up through bensalem and parts of burlington county, but it's moving out quickly. much of south jersey seeing spotty showers, moderate rainfall about to move into atlantic county but that's the end of it, delaware seeing spotty showers,
