un . the winds of change are blowing. you can see the flag flapping over center city, philadelphia atop the airmark building and with that wind comes colder weather. good morning, i'm vai sikahema. after weeks of warmth, it's going to feel like wind they are weekend. chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. how cold are we talking about here? >> when you combine the temperature with the wind, it's going to feel like close to 20 degrees by saturday night. we are not used to that.

there is a little light rain around parts of the area. a couple reports of sleet. you can see streaks of moisture. the front that has gone through kind of stalled and you can see the bands of moisture. like i said, a little light rain and this particular band there has been sleet reported in portions of delaware county and into bucks county. it won't stick on anything other than perhaps cars for a second or two and you can see the drier air is trying to come in but it will take a little while. everything is happening gradually. we have to wait for that storm system to move completely away. it's 44 in philadelphia now. 41 in pottstown. not any colder to the north and west so we don't have that push of the colder air coming in yet. we have the light rain ending right around noon, 1:00

temperatures fairly level and dropping later on today. is that's the beginning of the drop, we'll see how quickly it goes down and when it warms up with the seven day in a few minutes. >> thank you, glenn. we have breaking traffic news in delaware causing trouble near a popular shopping spot, katy zachry is in the first alert traffic center. do you have details, katy? >> i do, vai. a lot of people will be out on their lunch break headed to the mall. this is where we have the problem. i-95 northbound just north of where it hits up with route 1 in the christiana mall area. this is a route a lot of people take to the mall and it's an accident that happened not long ago. when it initially happened there were four lanes blocked. the good news is, things seem to be resolving themselves at a pretty rapid pace because right now there are two lanes blocked but if you want to stay away you can take route 37 around this mess. we'll let you know when it clears.

vai? authorities have charged two people with aggravated assault following a late-night stabbing in center city. the victim remains in critical condition. pla police say the 44--year-old man was attacked outside the convention center just before 11:00. police say they found a five-inch folding knife at the scene and they took a box cutter from one of the suspects. police are pulling video from surveillance cameras in the area to determine what led up to that stabbing. this morning, investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at this row home in philadelphia's olney neighborhood. the blaze started around 3:30 at fifth and rockland. the fire chief says the home was vacant so no one was hurt. crews are now assessing the damage to that building. firefighters in camden were busy battling heavy smoke and flames inside this row home on north chesapeake row. this started in the basement. every made it out safely. the american red cross is providing the family with temporary housing and

investigators are determining what caused that fire. also in camden, police searching for the gunman who shot a man overnight. the shooting happened around midnight around carl miller boulevard. police found multiple bullet casings you see there marked on the street. the victim is in the hospital. his condition is not available right now. and we've learned about a second case of swastikas appearing at a dormitory in rowan university. we told you about the first incident back on december 3. the markings were carved into wooden doors at the dorm. in the newest incident, swastikas were found on the sides of a stairwell on december 11. so far, there are no arrests. the university issued a statement saying it will not stand for intolerance. the school's jewish student center is planning to two events in the spring to foster awareness and pride in their heritage. parents who rely on a philadelphia day care center to care for their children had to

find someone else to care for their kids today. the center is closed indefinitely. the state issued an order yesterday that closed sisters child care on germantown avenue in north philadelphia. a ten-month-old died after being found unresponsive at the day care wednesday. detectives are calling the baby's death suspicious but not have not ruled out the possibility of a medical condition. the day care had a provisional certificate of compliance after state inspectors found issues. sisters child care has since taken care of some of the problems and the state accepted the facility's plan to address lingering concerns. you can check your child's day care records. we posted a link explaining how to do that on our nbc 10 app. happening now, jury deliberations continue for a third day in the case of a woman accused in a beating of a gay couple in center city. jurors are trying to if cathryn knott was one of the people involved in the assault on two men back in september of 2014

and if she engaged in a conspiracy with two others who have pled guilty and are serving probation in the crimes. convict eed cop killer mumi abu jamal got a chance to testify about his health care. he has hepatitis-c and alleges he was denied care. the former death row inmate is serving a life sentence for the 1981 murder of philadelphia police officer daniel faulkner. delaware state police say a trooper shot and wounded a suspect who refused to drop a gun. the trooper was confronted by the man while he was responding to a report of a robbery at a home on salem church road in newark last night. the suspect in serious but stable condition. a second suspect in the home was arre arrested. a third is on the loose. the trooper is on administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated.

and new jersey state police are mourning the loss of one of their own this morning after a trooper died in a car crash. trooper eli mccarson was killed yesterday in an accident in quinton township, salem county. investigators say he was responding to a domestic dispute when his cruiser went off the road and smashed into a utility pole. rescue crews cut mccarson out of the car. he died at the hospital. witnesses tell us the cruiser was badly damaged. >> they tried to get him out but the door was, like, really stuck. it was really hard to get him out of the car. >> reporter: mccarson was recently married and lived in gloucester county. he just graduated from the state police academy earlier this year. the debate on pension changes in the pennsylvania statehouse is scheduled to resume today. the republican florida leader stopped the session yesterday so lawmakers could study a new report on the changes. a house spokesman says the debate will begin again after

they reviewed the report. the pension bill would restructure benefits from newly hired teachers and state workers. the bill is being debated along with the state budget now nearly six months overdue. but that battle could soon be over. just a short time ago, the republican floor leader of the house said plans to bring up a vote on a tax increase to end the impasse. that vote is expected to happen. if it passes, a vote on the main budget bill could follow. meanwhile, just within the last two hours, the house passed a $1.1 trillion spending bill that will fund the federal government through next september. now the senate is debating that bill. senate lors vote on the measure in combination with the year end tax plan that gives breaks to working families. president obama has promised to sign the spending plan. >> they're real.

we're following a developing story out of the vatican. mother teresa is a step closer to sainthood. pope francis signed off on the miracle needed to make her a saint. that miracle concerned a man in bra swzil with a brain disease was cured after his wife prayed to mother teresa. no date has been set for the canonization but italian media speculates it will take place next september on the 19th anniversary of her death. she won the 1979 nobel prize for her work carrying for the poorest people in the world. president obama is preparing to take questions from reporters at

the white house before starting his vacation. the president will hold his traditional news conference, then he'll head to san bernardino where he plans to meet with families of the 14 victims of the recent mass shooting. the california stop will be the president's last before he travels on to hawaii to spend christmas and new year's as he traditionally does, with his family. he is scheduled to return to the white house on january 4 to start his last year in office. the white house promises the president will give a non-traditional address when he delivers his final state of the union on january 12. it may be less act specifics. aides say he'll zero in on the broader challenges facing the country. obama's defense secretary is in afghanistan today to assess the fragile security situation the there. ash carter is checking out reports isis loyalists are trying to gain a foothold in the eastern part of the country near the pakistan border. officials have been warning that

haven't seen any kind of december-like weather this month. the cold air moving in. it's going to be a chilly weekend. it's going to be a dry weekend and by next week the temperature is shooting up to the point where we're going to be getting more warm temperature records. we have cloudy skies right now. there have been some sprinkles around, even a little bit of sleet in parts of the area. 44 degrees, the wind northwest at 13 miles an hour. and we've got a windchill here. 38 degrees and it's also 10 degrees colder than this time yesterday so, yeah starting to feel colder. 41 in pottstown, 43 in allentown and mount holly, wilmington also. 41 in glassboro and 43 in millville and dover. temperature not going up a whole lot partly because of the cloud cover and partly because colder air is coming in. you can see where 10 to 15 degrees colder than this time yesterday when we had the rain.

the wind is coming out of the ness and sustained winds 10 to 15 miles an hour. we'll see gusts higher during the afternoon so the temperature continues to go down. the high tomorrow only 41. the first below-normal day of the entire month. you can see sprinkles coming through the area. it's not that much but once in a while you get into this and this brighter color could possibly be a bit of sleet that is moving in. of course it does not stick on roads. it gets on to cars, it can bounce off of those surfaces and make it seem like you're in the middle of a storm here. as you can see on the futurecast, things progress to the east as we go through the afternoon, likely to see some sunshine by later today. and watch what happens to the windchills. as we go through the night

tonight, it starts feeling like it's in the 20s north and west and then starts feeling like it's close to 20. by tomorrow morning, 13 in mount pocono, near 20 across much of the rest of the area. even during the afternoon tomorrow it's only feeling like it's about 30 degrees. that's not brutal for december generally but we've been spoiled, the eagles game is going to be chilly starting off at 41, a kickoff, 38 degrees later on during the game. it's going to be dry and not that windy. breezy and colder, temperatures staying in the 40s for the most part and then only 41 with stronger winds during the day tomorrow. then the warmup starts. 60 degrees by tuesday and record warmth by christmas eve. >> thank you, glenn, the royal family is spreading holiday

national committee says a computer glitch on wednesday allowed people on bernie sanders' campaign to access a donor's database for a short period. still the allegations are serious and could hurt the candidate who's already struggling to catch up with hillary clinton. nbc's kristen welker has a report. >> reporter: the blow to bernie sanders' presidential campaign comes on the eve of the next democratic debate and just a few weeks before the iowa caucuses. the democratic national committee immediately suspending the campaign's access to critical voter information after accusing it of improperly accessing confidential data from hillary clinton's campaign on wednesday. the sanders campaign acknowledged the security breach to nbc news and a dnc official says it lasted for a half hour on wednesday and believes at this point four people accessed the information. the sanders campaign blaming the software vendor for a glitch that temporary allowed access to the information telling nbc news

"the dnc is relying on an incompetent vendor who on more than one occasion has dropped the firewall between the various democratic candidates' data." according to the "washington post," the vendor called the episode an isolated incident adding "by lunchtime it was resolved" and the staffer involved has been fired. the campaign maintains none of the information was downloaded or printed. kristen welker, nbc 10 news. at this point, the sanders campaign is holding just that one person responsible saying that behavior is unacceptable and that staffer was fired. it's unlikely there will be a criminal investigation. nbc reached out to the clinton campaign but so far no reaction. now a revealing report at a cdc. it shows a nurse who reused a syringe to give flu shots to dozens of people at a clinic in mercer county in september made several other mistakes. one of those mistakes? keeping the vaccine in her personal refrigerator. the cdc also says she only brought enough of the vaccine for 20 people but administered

it to 67. the nurse has since sur reverended her license. meanwhile, a new day in delaware, a law decalizing the use of small amounts of marijuana is in effect across the state. this is what it means if you're of legal age. you're allowed to possess and use one ounce of marijuana privately without threat of jail time. but you will face a $100 fine. public consumption is not allowed. the new law doesn't apply to anyone under the age of 18. we have new information about the death of a red panda at the elmwood park zoo in norristown, montgomery county. the 18-month-old animal named clinger died late last month and now zoo officials say he had a brain disease that was likely caused by a parasite. the red panda was one of fly that arrived last spring. clinger's brothers are being closely monitored and given preventative treatments. fiat chrysler is recalling

nearly 56,000 jeep cherokee suvs. a water leak can cause an electrical short in the vehicles's power tailgates, increasing the risk of a fire. but the company says no fires have been reported. the recall covers cherokees from the 2015 and 2016 model years. the company will notify owners about how to get the problem fixed. a court-side collision made for a scary moment at the cavaliers/thunde cavaliers/thunders game last night. golfer jason day and his wife ellie were sitting court side when lebron james came barrelling at them trying to save a ball and in the process took out ellie day. she was taken out on a stretcher but was conscious and alert. you can see the players giving her a hand. right after the game, lebron tweeted out apologies saying "ellie day, i hope you're doing okay. my apologies. hope you guys come back to another game soon. love, lj." the eagles and cardinals will face off this sunday night

a number of chester county agencies are teaming up with the annual marine corps toys for tots. it takes place at the christian fellowship church in west chester. last year this event provided by toys for over 700 children. this year, due to increased financial hardships and budget situations, this event will provide toys for over 1300 children. adorable animals are looking for a home this holiday. how you can help and save money all at the same time. it's a staple when you go out to see a movie but you may soon be able to skip the popcorn line when you hit the theater. gle glenn? >> is that right? that's the biggest problem, the line for the popcorn. christmas is about a week away and it's finally about to feel like wirnt. i'll let you know how low temperatures will go this weekend.

well, we continue to be in the middle of what is going to be the warmest december ever recorded in philadelphia and by far it's not even going to be close the way it's shaping up. but we have this one exception. cold air is moving in. as we head into the weekend, it will be a dry weekend. and next week there's going to be rain and record warmth toward christmas. there's the flag blowing now and the northwest wind bringing in some of that colder air but it's not pushing the moisture out just yet. 44 degrees with cloudy skies. winds northwest at 13 miles an hour and there's our windchill. the first windchill in a long time at 38 degrees. it was 57 yesterday. 49 for the high today. 41 degrees tomorrow.

that may be the only day of the whole month with below-normal temperatures. 42 in doylestown and coatesville. 37 in mount pocono. so they're getting there but it's not going to stay cold enough to make snow, for example, 43 in wilmington and mount holly and wrightstown also trenton at 44 along with woodbine and that wind is going to be even stronger during the day tomorrow. most moisture has moved out but we have the little strip here of some moisture coming across the area, sprinkles, even a little bit of sleet, just a small layer of cold air right above the surface so it won't be any kind of big deal but it's the first little sign of the actual winter type weather and it's going to feel like winter into tomorrow

you can see on the futurecast the general trend is for everything to be moving out during the afternoon and even sunshine by later on. by later this afternoon in the 30s, tonight you headed out you'll feel like it's 27 in reading by 10:00 and barely 30 in philadelphia. by tomorrow morning, closer to 20 degrees the way it's feeling. now, remember a few days ago we were 70 degrees. so even the middle of the afternoon will feel like it's in the 20s in the northern and western suburbs so this is going to feel like december for the eagles game, by sunday night there will be less wind but it's colder than last week's game. 30 degrees colder. it was 70 degrees, kickoff temperature 41. for the rest of the day today

happening now, the haul away hunger convoy has just arrived at citizens bank park in south philadelphia. skyforce 10 has been following the 75 toyota tundras as they have weaved through the city. the trucks are carrying an estimated 250,000 pounds of food which will go to fillab -- philabundance. matt delucia is live with more. >> reporter: you mentioned the toyota tundra trucks came into the parking lot. you can see their off loading pallets of food and putting them in the philabundance trucks. these trucks are making their way through. they came from a warehouse where they loaded up these pallets and drove through the city to come down here and do this. you have these different businesses and donated more than 250,000 pounds of food. i'm going to bring in paul
