>> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. >> we begin with breaking news out of delaware county. several businesses in boothwn have been evacuated due to a threat. sky force 10 was above all of the action a short time ago. we'll have a live report in just a few minutes. first, it's finally feeling like december if nbc 10 in old city tonight for the start of a stretch of some of the coldest weather we've seen so far this season. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. temperatures are dropping and the wind will make it feel even colder. it is quite a shock to the system after all the warm weather we've had lately. tonight, we have team coverage of this dramatic change. let's go first to sheena parveen. just how cold will it get? >> jacqueline, yes, you're right, it will be a shock to the system, especially by early tomorrow morning. right now, temperatures are in the mid-30s for the lehigh

valley. 30 degrees, though, mt. pocono, where we could see some snow showers either late tonight or early tomorrow. 40 in philadelphia right now. 39, millville and dover. 38 degrees in wilmington. but, it is windy outside, too, so when you factor that in, too, it feels about 10 degrees colder through the area. here's a future feels-like temperature overnight tonight, these numbers will be dropping down. and take a look at this. tomorrow morning, 7:00 a.m., some areas north and west could feel like the teens. allentown and quakertown, you're coming in around 19 degrees. that's the feels-like temperature. philadelphia coming in around 20 degrees for south jersey and delaware, same thing early tomorrow morning. so through most of the day tomorrow. it will be feeling like the 20s and around 30 degrees. that's going to be the warmest it will feel. it's going to feel more like winter this weekend. it's not going to last for very long, though. i'll show you the next warm-up coming just in time for your christmas eve. that's coming up. >> taking a live look at the flags on top of the aramark building in center city, you can

see how windy it is out there tonight. nbc 10's drew smith continues our coverage with a look at how people are reacting to the change, experiencing the weather we should be having this time of year. >> reporter: what a difference a week makes. dominick and his crew on this christmas tree lot put away the shorts and t-shirts they had on last weekend. they helped the customers get festive in the cold tonight. >> it puts you in the christmas spirit, you know. it really gets you ready for the holidays. >> reporter: the hats, hoods, and coats were back on at suburban square, where the wind was whipping. >> it's good and bad, because i prefer the warmth, but i know that weather wise, this is what it's supposed to be. >> reporter: at besito mexican restaurant, there was finally a reason to cozy up next to the fire. and among all the holiday durations, over by the stores, we found sale signs for sweaters and winter gear, chchbt sold well in this mostly warm december. >> every store had sales. >> yeah. >> so i would definitely come now. every store.

>> this is the first time i'm looking for a coat for her. yeah, trying to get some warm gear to stay warm. >> reporter: for kadisha bright and her daughter, this is what the holidays are supposed to feel like. but there's still one thing missing. >> i like the winter, i like the snow. she was just talking about it. she can't wait for the snow. >> that was drew smith reporting. to get updates from the first alert weather team anytime, be sure to download the nbc 10 news app. it's a free download to your smartphone or tablet. back now to that breaking news in boothwyn delaware county. sky force 10 was above the scene of several businesses that were evacuated around 10:00 tonight because of a threat. nbc 10's drew smith is live with the very latest. what can you tell us about this? >> reporter: jacqueline, people continue to be impacted by this. right here behind me is the walmart center that was evacuated several hours ago. and it's still blocked off. and just in the past five minutes, police have come up to where we're standing at a mcdonald's and told people they need to clear out of here. we'll be leaving here shortly. there are also police camped out

down at another business. this is about one of a dozen in this area that are closed, that are holding employees of the walmart over in that area. now, so far, no injuries, nothing suspicious found. that's the latest from police that we know. but there are two separate scenes, here on conchester highway, where the walmart is, there was a suspicious item after they evacuated the walmart. also, about a mile and a half south from here on chi-chester avenue, there was another threat called into another business, a riteaid. so several threats called in. a lot of people on edge, but no reason to panic at this point. they have everything locked down at the moment and there are bomb squads here. we did speak to a witness. listen to what he had to say. >> everybody just hustled the to get out and got out to the car and sat there for a little bit and the cops showed is up and went to figure out what was going on. and the girl that was standing next to us on the way out, she said something about something underneath her back tire, and the cops went to go over there and start looking, backed up,

cleared the area, got everybody out. >> reporter: and police are being very cautious out here. we saw them pulling over a couple of cars, just as a precaution. there are several agencies, all the way -- the philadelphia police, their helicopter was searching up overhead. had the spotlight on, was searching some of the rooftops around here, but so far, nothing found, nothing out of the ordinary, but, of course, a disruption to everybody's commute home here in boothwyn. reporting live, i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. . a bucks county woman may get jail time in an attack on a gay couple in center city, philadelphia. but kathryn knott was acquitted of the most serious felony charges in the assault. a jury today agreed with witnesses who said she shouted is slurs and hit one of the men last year. knott took the stand this week and denied she instigated the fight or hit anyone. she turned down a plea deal that two men in the case took. they got probation. some jurors were not happy with today's mixed verdict.

>> i think in her mind, she just had no idea why she was there, because she saw nothing wrong with what she did. and that's -- that is so bad. >> it was sickening no watch her try to explain that those words are okay. because they're not okay. >> knott will be free on bail until her february sentencing. she could get anything from probation to a two-year jail term. the victims tell us they never wanted a trial and are satisfied with the verdict. delaware county prosecutors say drug cases will not be affected by the arrest of an officer accused of stealing from the evidence room. brad ross is a 17-year veteran of the upper darby police department. today he was arrested and charged with stealing pills, money, gift cards, and more from the evidence room. prosecutors say he became addicted to prescription pills and stole to feed his habit. >> but nobody expected him, you know, to be a thief. nobody expected him to commit criminal activity. he was a respected officer and it's a shame that he engaged and

decided to go down this course of action. >> ross resigned from the upper darby police department in march. he's out of jail on $50,000 bail. i did not download any voter file data. >> a former bernie sanders aide is denying claims that he stole voter data from the hillary clinton campaign tonight. nbc news caught up with josh retsky at the philadelphia international airport after the dnc disciplined the sanders campaign. nbc 10's andrea klein thomas is live to explain this. this has caused a lot of finger-pointing between the sanders campaign, the clinton campaign, and the democratic party. >> the sanders campaign says what staffers did is unacceptable. right now it's not the clinton campaign who's his biggest obstacle, he says it's his own party. the campaign trail has both

bernie sanders and hillary clinton on the attack. clinton's campaign is accusing sanders of stealing secret voter information accessed through a breach of the database, maintained by the democratic national committee. meanwhile, sanders is accusing the dnc of sabotage, after the committee barred sanders access to his own voter information as a consequence. >> we are running a clean campaign. we're going to beat secretary clinton and everybody else in this campaign on the issues. we don't know dirty tricks. that's not how we run it here. >> reporter: philadelphia resident and bernie sanders staffer josh aretsky is at the center of the controversy. >> we tried to, basically, audit the system internally north to assess the scope and the impact. assuming that our data was equally at risk to all the other data that was at risk. >> reporter: nbc news learned for 40 minutes the sanders campaign searched key clinton voters. uretski says he wasn't trying to

be sneaky and deliberately left a trail in order to be transparent. he has since been fired from the sanders campaign. >> i did not download any voter data. i just made sure it was to the our voter data. >> reporter: the detailed voter information is key to the success of any campaign. the question is, is this a technological glitch or dirty politics? this is all happening ahead of the next democratic debate that's scheduled for tomorrow. we're live tonight in the digital operation center. i'm aundrea cline-thomas, nbc news. tomorrow could be the beginning of the end for pennsylvania's budget battle. that's when lawmakers will vote on a tax plan. it's been nearly six months insistence the state had a budget. social service agencies and schools have been heavily impacted. the governor's office is confident a $1 billion tax bill will pass in a vote tomorrow in the house. the details of the plan are not public. some say it will involve an increase in the personal income tax. others say it will be a sales tax increase.

after the tax plan is settled, other votes on the budget could quickly follow. a north philadelphia police department shows the holiday spirit to the community it serves. take a look at the huge turnout for the children's holiday party in the 22nd district. toys and bikes were given to the kids and families in the neighborhood. you can see the little ones and their parents had a great time. this district suffered a big loss back in march when officer robert wilson was killed at a gamestop while trying to buy a gift for his son. now police and the community are showing their holiday cheer. there's plenty to cheer about when it comes to the eagles this weekend. the sunday night football bus is in town for the eagles/cardinals game on nbc 10. you can check out memorabilia and have some fun with social media on the bus. >> it's always a lot of fun when fans are interacting with the bus and having everything on sunday night football. we have a lot of good energy on here and it's always good to see. >> the sunday night football bus will be outside xfinity live

center where a baby died earlier this week is now closed today, state officials say the center operated, quote, gross incompetence and misconduct. a memorial now sits outside sister of child care ii on germantown avenue in north philadelphia. teddy bears and messages were left for the 10-month-old girl. a man whose granddaughters attended the center told nbc 10 he was impressed with the facility. >> anytime you had any problems, you know, they were there for you, they were really good. i think the school was great. i'm surprised it would with a little child here. >> a report from the state says

no one on site at the day care had current cpr training. no one called 911 when the child was unresponsive. and instead, someone walked the girl to a hospital. in the last half hour, president obama landed in san bernardino, california. he's going to a private meeting with the 14 families of the terror attack victims. from there, the president heads to his vacation in hawaii. meantime, investigators are learning more about the alleged failed plots of syed farook and his friend, enrique marquez jr. court documents say the two planned to slaughter students at a community college they attended. another plot involved dropping pipe bombs on a freeway and shooting stalled drivers. >> crazy that you would want to hurt so many people that you know. >> marquez faces conspiracy charges in the plan. we have an update tonight on a harrisburg teenager accused of supporting isis. today, we got our first look at 19-year-old jaleel abin amir

aziz. he is accused of using twitter to build up support for an attack in the u.s. 57 different twitter accounts were traced to his house. in one tweet, he threatens to behead president obama. he also tweeted about pennsylvania's gun laws, writing, quote, pennsylvania has very light gun laws and it's very easy to arm yourself. a break from the flu. health experts say flu season is off to a slower start this year. that's a dramatic change from the last three flu seasons. you might remember, doctor's offices were filled with patients, even before christmas and illnesses peaked by late december. scientists at a lab used mathematical modeling to predict that there's a 67% chance that this flu season will be mild. ♪ it's beginning to look a lot like christmas ♪ >> it's going to be a busy weekend in bethlehem. this little town transforms into christmas city, usa, at this

time of year. merchants say the spring-like weather has been good for business, but difficult to get people into the holiday spirit. and now with temperatures dipping close to freezing, visitors say it's a nice change of pace. >> it's a actually kind of nice to have it be a little bit cooler today. it feels more holiday. >> it's warm inside the tents. it's not snowing. that's kind of disappointing. >> their hold events, like this ice sculpting display going on all weekend, bethlehem expects this to be its busiest shopping weekend. well, it is finally feeling a little bit more like winter out there. so maybe that will get you in the holiday spirit if you're shopping this weekend. it will be getting colder overnight and into your saturday, so this is the coldest we've seen so far this december and it's not going to last. either we have new record-high temperatures returning into the forecast just in time for your christmas.

it's windy outside right now. temperatures will only be dropping off and that wind is going to stay up. take a look at 6:00 tomorrow morning, we expect to be bottoming out around 30 degrees, and by noon tomorrow, only around 40 degrees. it is going to be a much colder start to your weekend. today we were in about the mid-40s to upper 40s in some spots, but tomorrow we'll be around 41 degrees. a bigger drop in temperatures. mid-40s sunday, and take a look at that warm-up come monday. 58 degrees. the average high is 44. right now, the winds are sustained at 15 to 20 miles an hour. they're gusting even higher, and we expect them to gust near 35 miles an hour tomorrow. here's what it feels like outside right now when you factor in the wind. so the actual temperatures, about 10 degrees warmer than this right now but it really feels like 30 in philadelphia, 27 in allentown, feels like 19 up in mt. pocono, where there could be some lake-effect snow showers moving into that area tomorrow or late tonight. 30 is what it feels like in millville. 29, that's the feels-like

temperature in dover. we are watching some snow showers back up to our west, again, with that strong northwest wind. some of those could blow into the poconos, possibly the lehigh valley. we'll be watching that overnight and into early tomorrow. here's future weather. we stay dry through most of the area. 7:00 tomorrow morning feeling like the teens north and west, the 20s through the rest of the area. we don't feel any warmer than the low 30s tomorrow afternoon and then we go into sunday, pretty nice football weather, and it is windy. in the morning, it will feel like the mid-20s. and in the afternoon, it will feel like the mid-30s. actual highs in the mid-40s. your eagles forecast, kickoff, 10:00 a.m., around 40 degrees. tonight, clouds slowly clearing. it will stay breezy and get colder. 31 for the low in philadelphia. 28, areas north and west. tomorrow, a windy day and temperatures around 40 for the actual high. but again, feeling 10 degrees colder through the day with that wind. sunday looks good. sunny, mid-40s, warm-up monday

near 60. look at tuesday, 61. wednesday, 66. the warm-up continues for christmas eve. that is thursday. 70 for the high, that would be a record high temperature. it's going to come with some rain, though. rain chances start tuesday, continue wednesday and thursday. so, no, we do not have a white christmas in the forecast, but at least christmas day, the last day in the seven-day forecast, 55 degrees. it so will be cooler christmas day. >> i know, people are hoping that maybe this air that we're having now will stick around. >> yeah. unfortunately, it's only going to get warmer. the rain could affect some travel leading up to christmas, but at least day does look a little bit cooler. >> all right, sheena. danny pommells, the cardinals coming to town. >> yeah, big game on sunday. a local high school team can now call themselves state champs. plus, the sixers continue to take punches. tonight, the knicks delivering the blows. highlights are on deck.

an update now on the breaking news we have been following in boothwyn, delaware county. police remain on the scene of several businesses that were evacuated following a bomb threat tonight. we're told a man called the walmart along conchester high school and a riteaid about a mile and a half away. then the stores called police. this prompted a number of stores in the area to be evacuated and roads in the area were closed. stay with nbc 10 and nbc10.com for updates. well, a lot of people were asking for the colder weather. they got it. >> yes. if everyone wanted to feel like winter this weekend, it definitely is. so tomorrow the wind along with the cold is going to make it feel around 20 degrees in the morning, 30 in the afternoon. actual high, 41. sunday, that's football weather. mid-40s, pretty nice. but the warm-up comes next week. monday, we are near 60. christmas eve at 70 degrees. that's going to come with rain, that's a record high. and by friday, christmas day, we're going to be dry. sunny, cooler, mid-50s. so it does not appear to be a white christmas, by any means. but at least it will be a little
