>> that alert went out at a business in the 2300 block of church street and the 4700 block of pennypack street. we broke this story about 90 minutes ago. >> andrea cline-thomas joins us outside from one of the businesses targeted. >> reporter: some of these propane tanks that were stolen were not light, not easy to carry. take a look. some are the fork life-style propane tanks that could weigh as much as 100 pounds which heightens concern for law enforcement. an alert went out to law enforcement agencies a i cross the area after 43 propane tanks were stolen. praxair in the 2300 block of church street is one of the businesses targeted. the other is james morrissey incorporated in the 4700 block of pennypack street. both businesses were hit in the

overnight hours of december 17. surveillance video captured a man loading the propane tanks into a dark minivan. here's a breakdown of the banks stolen between the two businesses 24. were described as forklift sized tanks. nine were one hundred pounds. four were 50 pounds. another four are 33 pounds and two are two-pound tanks. up until an hour ago a police officer was parked down the street presumably keeping an eye on these businesses. police are trying to track down this man who stole the tanks but more importantly figure out what he wants to do with them. reporting live from, i'm aundrea klein-thomas, nbc 10 news. new at 11:00, more than 300,030 $300,000 worth of diamonds was

59 in dover, wildwood and in atlantic city. we have the next round of train just getting started. i don't think it will be much during the morning rush but it will develop during the day. it will rain tomorrow and some of that on the heavy side fog to start, record warmth after. that more coming up with the seven-day in a few minutes. philadelphia police are focusing on a man who left the hotel room where a 75-year-old psychiatrist was found dead in center city. dr. howard baker was found yesterday morning on the floor of his room at the roadway in. he was naked with a belt tied around his neck. his backpack and his wallet were missing. an autopsy determined baker was strangled. surveillance video shows two men visited baker's room at different times sunday evening. police say they are zeroing in on the second man who was seen leaving with dr. baker's backpack.

tonight, we are hearing from the family of a montgomery county airman who was among six u.s. troops killed in a suicide bombing in afghanistan. staff sergeant peter taub was 30 years old. he had been in the air force for eight years. he was a graduate of sheltonham high school and was expecting his second child with his wife next summer. his father says he adored his family and loved what he did. >> he loved his family. he loved his daughter. she was the apple of his eye. >> taub's father and stepmother say they didn't know he was in afghanistan. he told them he was somewhere else so they wouldn't worry. he and five others died when a lone suicide bomber on a motorcycle drove into their group and detonated his suicide vest. a high-ranking female air force officer was also among the victims. adriana vorderbruggen became the third member of the air force to die in afghanistan. her marriage to her partner

three years ago was viewed by gay rights activists as a milestone following the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. joseph lemm was also killed. he was a 15-year veteran of the new york police department. a burlington county husband has been sentenced to 31 years in prison for killing his wife last new year's eve. today kyle crosby pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter charges as part of a plea deal. crosby confessed to choking his wife to death in their mount laurel home. he then dumped her body in maryland. the gps tracker on his car helped police find erica crippen's body. as part of the deal, charges will be dropped against crosby's mother who was charged with tampering with evidence. >> he was the first u.s. catholic church official ever to be charged over his handling of sex abuse complaints. but tonight philadelphia monsignor william lynn is awaiting word on when he can walk out of prison after having his conviction overturned again. a superior court judge today awarded lynn a new trial.

lynn's lawyers argued the trial judge allowed too many victims not closely related to his case to testify. this is the second time his conviction has been overturn ed signs of a broke through in pennsylvania's budget stalemate tonight. the move raises the possibility that a spending pajage could land on governor tom wolf's desk as early as tomorrow. pennsylvania has been without a budget for almost six months. we first showed you this holiday light display in wilmington last night at 11:00. about a half million people watched the video on our facebook page. >> tonight we went on the ground to talk to the owner about the special meaning behind this display, keith jones reports. >> reporter: i want you to count the lights. better yet, probably not a good

idea. you'll count until christmas. the guy who started this, tom smith, says there are 600,000 to 700,000 lights here. see for yourself. he says this free holiday tradition is about more than christmas. the lights, the children, they play: just started putting lights up. the more i put up, the better it looked. >> reporter: tom smith, will ming on the's st. nicklaus, doing this for more than 30 years. 700,000 lights spread across two acres. it takes two months for tom and his family. >> i still have that tree, my wife fell off that shed right there. she said "what's broke?" she didn't break nothing. >> reporter: it's so big, police dresk traffic around his house. look at skyforce 10. you can see it from i-95. this woman did, coming home from a wake. >> it's very sad right before christmas. him and his wife have been together 37 years. >> reporter: she insisted they stop for a dose of joy.

from a wawa at the shore. and it means ashton funk could lose both jobs depending on how the judge rules next. prosecutors say he shoplifted $7.98 worth of items from a wawa back in september. pennsylvania's supreme court justice michael eakin is suspended with pay for his part in a pornographic e-mail scandal. a panel ordered the suspension today, one day after eakin apologized at a hearing so eakin will be off the job while an ethics court investigates him. he's accused of exchanging lewd and offensive e-mails with friends. that scandal surfaced after attorney general kathleen kane released more than 1,000 of eakin's e-mails. kane claims her legal trouble started when she released the e-mails. kane is facing federal perjury charges. tomorrow a new jersey grand jury is expected to decide the fate of the trucker who slammed into tracey morgan's limo. the panel will announce whether kevin roper will be incidicted.

roper's lawyers asked to have charges tossed out. he was driving for walmart when he crashed into tracy morgan's him low on the new jersey turnpike last year. the comedian was seriously hurt. his friend was killed. roper was charged with vehicular homicide and has yet to be indicted. next at 11:00, skiing is dangerous enough without falling objects. tonight, the close call on the slopes. also, mother nature taking a bite out of business. tonight it's finally open, but is anyone on this mountain? a little rain tomorrow, but the big picture is temperatures in the 60s and 70s on the way. my holiday forecast coming next. plus, facebook plans to ring in the new year with a new venture. that's next at 11:00.

children at a buck's county day care. his name is harry lawrence. police say his wife owned and operated little joy day care in bristol township and later falls township. they say lawrence sexually assaulted at least one child at the day care and possibly more. investigators believe the assaults happened about ten years ago. anyone with information is asked to call falls township police. as if racing down the side of a mountain on skis isn't dangerous enough, check this out. that was a drone that fell out of the sky and nearly took out world champion skier marcel hersher. you can see the drone miss him by a matter of seconds. it happened so fast the world champ said he didn't notice it. despite this close call, hersher still managed to finish second. >> do solemnly swear -- >> do solemnly swear. congratulations to the camden county police department's newest officers. 20 of them took their oaths today. among them a mother and stepson

home today. he was handing out hundreds of christmas gifts to veterans there part of the second win dreams national organization. the vets write down a favorite gift or wish on an ornament that hangs from a tree starting on veterans day, that's when customer generosity takes over. >> anonymously, absolutely. and bring it it right to our counter at the courtesy desk and we wrap it, we tag it, and we deliver it. >> it's their faces. no matter how old you are you are always a kid at christmas. >> reporter: the vineland veterans home has been granted a lifetime scholarship to second win dreams thanks to harris casino foundation. first responders in mount holly took part in a gift-giving mission tonight. police officers and local firefighters loaded up their rigs and delivered presents to local kids. st. a clause came along for the ride. the kids could hardly contain themselves as bag after bag of wrapped presents were handed out.

there are some businesses welcoming this unseasonably warm weather, like golf courses. >> but ski resorts, not so much, right? in the poconos they can not wait for the temperatures to take a nosedive. check out the scene at camelback mountain tonight. look closely. there are actually skiers out on that slope. camelback opened yesterday. we called tonight and they had 300 skiers today. but they better move fast because that snow will melt tomorrow, glenn? >> more melt tomorrow, even more the next day, even more the next day. this is a hopeless weekend. but january is still in the ball game. february could actually be a cold and snowy month. don't give up, snow lovers. more rain than snow during the next few days. we'll smash records during christmas thyme. christmas eve will be the warmest ever recorded most likely. and it will be warm all weekend,

especially sunday. fog developing in much of the area now. 59 degrees, that's amazing. the humidity is high. last night you warm. 49 in mount pocono close to 60 degrees farther to the south in new jersey and in delaware. allentown less than blue miles, wrightstown, not every place has it but there are going to be some delays tomorrow morning as a result of that. maybe even airport delays so check on all that. we had cold weather over the weekend, seasonably cold, then it just gets warmer and warmer. tomorrow we could set a record. probably in the evening when it's going to be the warmest and we're going to set a record on thursday. the record 64 set last year. going 11 degrees above the record. and every other place around here likely to see the record as

well. and we're dry right now after the round of rain we had earlier but it is starting to build up now in north carolina and virginia, that is going to be coming in during the day. but not so much for the morning rush. the morning rush, the issue is fog. then later on the showers start coming up. generally after 9:00 a.m. the temperature, of course, continues to go up but the warmest of the day comes late. this is after 5:00. another band of heavy rain comes in, the wind turns into the south and temperatures start climbing toward the 70-degree mark by thursday morning. look at those temperatures that is just unprecedented. unseasonably mild with areas of dense fog 5, 4 for the low. during the day tomorrow, of course, the fog early, then the rain after 9:00 a.m. becoming heavy at times and near record warmth in the evening and

crashing records on thursday at 75, close to a record on friday. we cool down just a little one saturday. that's still warm for this time of the year. and back up near 70 on sunday. the eagles are sending a trio of players to the pro bowl. see who's heading to honolulu. we'll tell you about that. plus the entire team gets set for a must-win game. and the temple owls will look to make school history with a win at the boca raton bole. we'll tell you about the controversial finish up next.

the temple owls were sitting on the doorstep of an 11 win season in school history. all that remains was the fight against toledo in the boca raton bowl. owls down a field goal in the fourth quarter until phillip ehle goes 80 yards to cody thompson. defender can't keep up, ref would fall down and he gets in. touchdown toledo. owls down 16, under three minutes to play but still fighting. that i convert the two-point conversion. owls kicker alex starzek looks like he got it but reves say he did not. they go the other way. temple fans can't believe it. owls lose 32-17 as they wrap up their year at 10-4. there are no confusing and complex scenarios in the eagles playoff picture.

the eagles could be severely short handed on defense, our derrick gunn has learned that tackle benny logan could be out for the year with a calf tear. his defensive line mate fletcher cox is among three eagles heading to the pro bowl. for cox it's his first selection. jason peters is going for the eighth time, six of those while wearing midnight green and darren sproles is headed to hawaii as the return specialist for a second straight season. dimarco murray, a pro bowler would like to get away on what has become a nightmare of a season for him. today he spoke for the first time since he carried the ball just twice in the game against the cardinals. murray says he's focusing on what's at stake for the team. >> we got a position to make the playoffs and this where's a lot of people's focuses are. i can't worry about how many plays i'm getting and things of that nature. i can only control what i can control and whenever i get in, i'll just make the best of it.

>> the sixers still sitting on just one win this season and hosting the memphis grizzlies tonight before they embark on a six game road trip. the club handed out gifts to youngsters and then the crowd got a gift, the nasty jam puts the sixers up early on. but they had turnover problems all night. 28 in the game. one of those leads to a slam. sixers are now 1-29 on the season. that will do it for sports. we'll be right back.
