tracking delays if you're flying out tonight. i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london. we could be breaking records for travel and weather. >> to crush high temps on christmas eve and christmas. >> for the trip out of town, bringing you live team coverage. >> and nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. for how long will it keep raining? >> for much of the night, and we have a batch of heavier rain moving toward the philadelphia area. conditions are going to get worse in the next hour or two. of course, streets are wet, visibility's not great but not as bad as it was earlier today or as bad as it's about to get. you see the area of heavy rain up i-95. we have about three different areas of heavier rain that are moving through parts of the area. this is the area from baltimore, coming up i-95, getting into

chester county, and new castle county now, wilmington about to get hit. delaware and philadelphia right after that. atlantic city, rain tapering off. still hammered by it. that rain will be diminishing within the next 30 minutes. this other very large area not moving very quickly through lancaster county, burkes county, heading toward the redding area. so all of this continues to move toward the northeast. more rain on the way. but at least seeing it taper off a bit down to the south. temperatures keep going up. 65 degrees in philadelphia. we'll see just how warm it's going to get and how long with the seven day in a few minutes. >> to the roads now. holiday travel rush off it a wet start for drivers out there. live picture of interstate 95 in wilmington. aaa believes nearly 47 mlt americans will travel 50 miles or more between now and sunday. highest total in eight years.

heavy traffic on the garden state highways as well, route 70 a short time ago. low gas prices one of the major ranges for an uptick in travel. george spencer tracking all of the holiday travel problems that people are running into today. >> reporter: we are seeing a wednesday evening rush hour plus a whole lot more. my crew and i have been in this spot for 3 1/2 hours now. we can tell you this jam-packed i-76 has not changed one bit in the time we've been here. as we move around today, weather impacting most everyone's holiday travel. >> turnpike buzz with its own sounds of the holiday this afternoon, heavy traffic volume expected to get heavier by tomorrow. but for today's pre-christmas eve travelers, hitting the roads

meant hitting rain and fog, unusual for this time of year. >> it's watching out where you're going. the fog's the worst. >> reporter: pennsylvania turnpike authority expecting record breaking traffic between nom and new year's, 4.2 million. many brought ow by low gas prices and warm weather. karen smith heading to northeast philly from detroit. >> it was great. got up at 3:00 in the morning and we left at 3:00 and what are we? an hour left. >> reporter: as 30th street station the lines looked long but most trains departing and arriving close to schedule. traveling from new orleans through philly, headed to harrisburg. >> got on the train 7:00 a.m. tuesday morning. >> reporter: just arriving here now? >> yeah. >> reporter: philadelphia international airport, security lines reflected massive passengers, more than 500,000,

weather. logon to nbc10.com. breaking news, police in montgomery county on the scene of a murder of a man killed on his front porch. when police got there, they say they had a confrontation with the suspect who shot himself. but witnesses have a different story now. nbc 10 aundrea clieklein thomas >> reporter: they saw police shot at the suspect that could have wounded him. what's going on in the last 20 minutes tow truck arrived to haul away the minivan. police surrounded the suspect in the minivan with guns drawn. suspect also had a gun. the suspect shot himself. >> saw the shotgun go off, cop standing right at the white van there, we saw the shotgun go

off. >> we seen the whole thing. >> reporter: blocks away on prospect avenues around 2:00 this afternoon. police say the suspect drove up and shot a man who was sitting on his front porch. still so many unanswered questions. it seems the investigation here is winding down. they have taken all of the caution tape down and people can drive up and down the street freely. we know the suspect is in the hospital. his condition is unknown. police have not released the flame of the victimer we are going to gather more information and bring it to you as it becomes available. aundrea cline-thomas. new video of philadelphia police saving a life. take a look. cameras caught three officers performing cpr on a man who had no pulse. officers pulled him out of the car near broad street north philadelphia. by the time the rescue squad

arrived, the man was revived and talking. two of the officers have only been on the street three weeks. pennsylvania police officer facing charges after investigators say she faked an attack. she claims she was thrown down an embankment back in september. her story triggered a manhunt. based on witness accounts, investigators say she made the whole story up. charged with making a false arrest, and denies the charges. home for the holidays for pennsylvania lawmakers without leaving the gift of a state budget. >> legislature didn't even pass a spending bill that many thought would be on the governor's desk now. >> we tied the record since 2003. we'll pass that mark tomorrow because lawmakers won't work until after christmas.

deanna durante talked to both party leaders about the stalemate. >> it's embarrassing to stand here december 23rd, and to be believing and to not have a product on the table. >> reporter: many thought the full house would vote on the bill, one that would open up funding to schools and certainly service agencies while lawmakers would figure out how much taxes would be going up. >> certainly, look, when we were looking at income tax or sales tax we wanted property tax reform with it as well. maybe it's time that we admit, a lot of these things need to come off the table. >> reporter: house majority leader asking for a stripped down budget. house democratic leaders, fresh from a meeting with the governor, denounce republican action saying they could have sp passed the spending bill without the tax plan. >> don't you think you --

>> we'll let them know that. of course. of course. we're still negotiating. that wasn't finalized but it could be finalized quickly if we get cooperation. >> reporter: house and senate members say spending bills have been approved before tax plans have been set up. recent happenings under corbett and rendell. late today the senate passed a stopgap office and the governor's office quickly denounced it. >> new information about the suspect arrested today for murdering a doctor in center city hotel room. manuel baez is a homeless prostitute. charged with killing howard baker after hiring him for sex. housekeeping found baker's body monday on the floor of his room at roadway inn, he was naked with a belt tied around his neck. backpack and wallet were

missing. an autopsy determined baker was strangled. a gand jrand jury charged k roper with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and aggravated assault for the crash on the turnpike. morgan and several friends were injured. morgan's friend james mcnair was killed. roper's attorney tried to have some charges thrown out yesterday. he argued that morgan's settlement with walmart did not give roper a chance for a fair trial. massive show of support to remember fallen state police trooper eli mccarson. he lost his life last week. his viewing and funeral drew more than 1,000 police and law enforcement across the country. he was 30 years old, oldest of five boys and newly married this

4-year-old twin girls. the officers who responded that night decided to help out along with other members of the police district. they raised more than $1,000 to buy new presents. >> we are in this community as much as people who live here, when -- we are not going to let win bad guy ruin a holiday for two kids. >> gifts were hidden away and be delivered to the girls by santa christmas. >> cape may, look at wipers going heavy rainfall. little to complain about at beach town with temperatures way, way above average. and, in atlanta ex-city, raining as well. because of the warm december, city's gearing up for big christmas and new year's crowds ael and. nbc 10iejersey shore reporter t greenberg joining us live from the wet boardwalk.

>> reporter: folks are choosing to stay inside the casinos to avoid the rain that is coming down here on the boardwalk and actually start to get heavier of course within the last minute or so. but one thing that folks can't say is that it's a cold rain. >> like maybe in florida or something. >> reporter: this 60-degree december day was in cape may, yes, umbrellas were a must but folks on the washington street mall certainly couldn't complain about being chilly. >> it's a nice change of pace from years past. little shakeup, makes things interesting. >> i could have brought my shorts. it warm outside and windbreaker. i brought a warm coat. i'm overdressed. >> reporter: ross lynn is staying at congress hall, which has seen its fall shoulder season extented into winter thanks to springlike temperatures. >> woef had days when people have been sitting on the beach

greenberg was getting. chester county, delaware county, montgomery about to get, it philadelphia about to get it. heavy rain that ted was in, lightning offshore. still heavy rain. but there is a little bit of a breakdown by washington. it is not a total washout. this is going to be on the news. we've got bad radar signatures and pictures of tornadoes going on right now in tennessee and mississippi, for example. record warmth tonight, rainy, fog redeveloping, temperatures going up toward 70 degrees. into the 70s tomorrow. not a rainy day. could see a couple of showers, maybe a thunderstorm. but most of the day will be dry. most of friday dry, too, but showers there. cool down on saturday.
