now it's the fog that is creating problems out there, even at 11:00, there are a lot of drivers on the road heading to grandma's house. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist is here. >> we broke a record tonight. >> that's right, the temperature actually got up to 70 degrees. at 11:00 at night, late december. well, we have wind out there now, that's preventing fog from developing as the wind diminishes, you'll see more fog by morning. 70 for today. that's a record. 76 for tomorrow. that is likely to be the highest temperature ever recorded in philadelphia during the month of december and even friday, we have a decent chance at setting a record. the steady rain has moved over to new york city. we have patchy light showers

around right now. you can see the heavier rain move through. still, again, a couple of showers but nothing like what we were seeing earlier. look at this, 70 degrees in northeast philly, 70 in dover and 63 in allen town. 68 in trenton. the numbers are just amazing. and they will continue to be that way. you get up in the morning. the temperature is going to be about 40 degrees above normal and then it gets warmer from there. more on how long this incredible weather is going to last with the seven day in a few minutes. officials say at least six people are dead and dozens others injured after tornados touched down in the south. this one was captured on camera near the town of clarks dale, mississippi. they say the twister was on the ground for about 20 minutes. and a few minutes ago, we got

eight years. a massive out pouring of support by men in blue today in south jersey. thousands of police officers from across the country came to pay their respects to officer mccarson. it drew more than 1,000 law enforcement members from round the country. he died last week when his cruiser crashed on the way to a call in salem county. he was 30 years old, the oldest of five by boys and newly married. they went home without leaving the gift of a state budget. they left after the senate sent them a bill he already vetoed. the state has been operating without a budget for almost six months. the true spirit of the holiday spirit on display. some of philadelphia's finest

the colin fire department is trying to restore public confidence after three former members were arrested and charged with theft. they say the chief, treasure conspired to steal from the volunteer service. the fire company says insurance was canceled and they didn't even know it. that was restored today. they say new checks and balances are in place. >> approach at this point in time will be to stabilize finances. we will have a very tight reign on book keeping.

philadelphia children just in time for christmas. more than two dozen were given bikes and toys thanks to community leaders. there was a party for the kids at the hawthorn culture center in south philly. and to this, a christmas miracle. that's what this girl calls her remission from cancer. >> it was a moment of victory and like i beat it, i beat it, it's gone. >> 12-year-old grace west was diagnosed with stage four with cancer that effects the nerves. she found out she's cancer free. last year at this time she met pope francis at the vatican and he blessed her and she said that's when she knew she had beaten the disease. >> i think the pope made the miracle happen and everybody who prayed for me in the community really made it happen.

and we've already set a record in redding. and 66 in glas borough. and 71 in dover, delaware and a lot of these places are go foog be in the 70s for many hours during the day tomorrow. . so, we picked 70 already for the record. friday we have a pretty good chance of a record at 70. the only day we're not going to do it is saturday and that of course is just a brief. we're going to smash these records. the record for philly, 64 set last year, we're going to beat probably by more than 10 degrees. there goes the rain up into new england. we have a couple of light showers from maryland but nothing like what we saw earlier this evening and so we're going to have to wait for another batch. this is the next system. the remnants could produce

showers or a thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon. look at the temperature as we go through the night tonight, near 70 for most of the night. in the 60s, most of the area. it's just incredible. there's not just an hour or two of this like normally happens when we set records, it's hour after hour after hour and there's not much rain during the day tomorrow. it's not going to be a rainy day. most of it day is dry. we could even see peeks of sunshine and it is going to be as unchristmas like as you could possibly get but what's going to happen is we go into saturday, we get a little dip in the temperature. sunday it's warm again and then here comes the colder air as we go through next week. the record warmth, 67 for the low. and during the day tomorrow, the record smashed of course, morning fog, chance of showers,
