playoffs it will be your first time what does that mean to you? >> it's awesome. it speaks a lot about this team. the group of guys who are determined all year long and we were faced with some adversity. i'm happy for this team. >> you head to green bay for the division title on the line. and 0-3 against the packers so far in the last two years. why do you think this will be different? >> we know there's a lot on the line. we have to approach this as another game. the guys have the same intensity. the arizona cardinals the past two weeks, it shows. looking for my guys preparing for next week. have that focus. >> congratulations. >> thank you. see you next week. >> adrian peterson, we talked before the game about getting back to the playoffs. now a shot at the division title. what would that mean to you? >> it would mean a lot. you know, for this organization. we haven't been there in a long time. we knew what this game meant tonight. we played physical and put

and really handed it to you guys. why do you think this game out there will be different? >> you know, just the guys that make up the team. a lot of fighters, a lot of tough guys, guys that love the game. so just go out there and see what happens. >> good luck. congratulations. we'll see you there. >> see you there. thank you. >> bob? >> michele, take a look at the nfc playoff picture. with this result tonight we now know all six playoff teams in the nfc. the only questions remaining are questions of seeding. among them who wins the nfc north and that, as you know by now, will be decided on sunday night as the vikings go to lambeau to take on the packers. carolina and arizona have the byes wrapped up, but if carolina were to lose to tampa bay and arizona beat seattle, then the cardinals would seize the number one seed. let's bring in tony dungy. tony, which of those nfc playoff teams would you least want to face in the postseason? >> well, bob, you have to look at arizona right now and the way they're playing.

they're on a roll. and they are healthy. and that is the biggest thing. i look at defending nfc champion seattle, they need marshawn lynch back. i look at carolina. they need jonathan stewart back. arizona has offense, defense, special teams rolling right now. that's the team that i think is on a roll and i certainly wouldn't want to play them in the playoffs. >> tony, here's a quick look at the afc. new england will be the number one seed if they get a win on the road at miami. denver plays cincinnati tomorrow night, then san diego in week 17. if denver wins both, the broncos will get at least a bye, but if they should lose twice, they could end up completely out of the playoffs. a kansas city win and one denver loss would give the division to the chiefs who clinched a wild card with pittsburgh's loss today. and that means the jets will be in if they win at buffalo against their former coach rex ryan. as for pittsburgh, they now need

to win next week against cleveland and hope for either a jets loss or two denver losses in order to make the playoffs. got all that? tony, how do you see it all shaking out? >> well, i think mike tomlin and the pittsburgh steelers have to be sick today. they had everything in their hands. all they needed to do was win their last two going to baltimore. they couldn't get it done. now they need a lot of help, probably from the buffalo bills. i just don't see that happening. i like the way the jets are playing. todd bowles has that team playing with a lot of confidence. ryan fitzpatrick is doing a great job with that offense. they need to go up and get a win and they'll be in. i believe that's what's going to happen, that the vets make it into that last slot in the playoff. >> coach, thanks. we turn as always to mike florio of pro football talk. you reported that some of the giants assistants believe that if they won the last two games they'd be safe. well, they lost big tonight. what impact do you think that has on tom coughlin's future in new york?

>> it can't be good either for coach coughlin or for general manager jerry reese between being eliminated from the postseason saturday night and just being embarrassed tonight. we have to watch now and see how it plays out. ownership of the giants has kept the cards close to the vest saying decisions will be made after the season's end. hard to imagine they don't have a good idea what they'll do when the season ends next sunday after they face the eagles. and in that same division, nfc east where washington has emerged as an unlikely champion, a couple of other hot spots. philadelphia, coach chip kelly under fire for his work as the coach and in his first year as the person in charge of the football operations. that's a situation to keep an eye on along with the dallas cowboys. owner jerry jones has called out the coaching staff not that long ago for not winning more games with tony romo injured this year. now, it would be very expensive to make a change. jason garrett, the head coach, has four years left on his contract. but we've seen unpredictable things before in the nfl.

what's your initial take on this thing? >> who's hot is the way i always look at it. and the minnesota vikings, 39 points last week, 49 points here tonight. they get their defensive players back, they look tremendous. but you're going to green bay. so how do you know? it's one of those aaron rodgers has been the best player in football probably over the past five years maybe. so you look at it and you say, this is it. this is the one that really matters. but remember there's some interesting twists to this. the loser may end up going to washington. the winner may end up getting seattle coming in. so you know, it's always bizarre at the end of the year trying to figure out what exactly is best for each team. >> bottom line, nobody knows anything. >> nobody knows. >> but that's why we love it. so we'll see you next week for minnesota against green bay at lambeau field in the 256th and final game of the 2015 regular season. tonight it's all vikings from start to finish. till next sunday night al

the temperatures are heading back down and some people will even see a wintry mix tomorrow. good evening, i'm denise nakano. you'll feel that drop. it's going to be almost 20 degrees colder tomorrow. a winter weather advisory has been issued for some areas. the cold winds are blowing. take a look at the flags on the air mark building in center city. those winds are bringing big temperature changes. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist michelle grossman has it all covered for you. michelle, tell us how it's going to look in the morning. >> tomorrow morning is not going to be bad in terms of the sky cover. partly cloudy skies. we're going to have winds blowing. it's going to be colder than we were this morning. temperatures into the 40s tomorrow and staying put in the 40s. you're going to need your coat once again. we have clouds outside. light rain still falling in parts of the area. that's falling out and the cold air is moving in behind it. temperatures close to where we were this time yesterday. here's the last rain in parts of southern new jersey, also delaware. this will exit overnight.

impacting your tuesday morning commute. we'll talk about that coming up. >> thanks, michelle. a slow-moving deadly storm is causing springlike twisters in texas and flooding in several states. at least 20 tornadoes sliced through neighborhoods near dallas leaving behind 40 miles that you see here of destruction. now today the national weather service said an ef-4 tore through garland, texas, with howling winds up to 200 miles an hour. the death toll stands at 11 but the texas governor warns that number could increase as rescue crews make their way through some of the 1,400 damaged homes. neighbors describe the chaos. >> this is all neighbor's stuff. these 2 x 4s flew through bullets like homes. i saw it across the street, it flew through a garage and landed in the wall. >> since wednesday, 2 peop9 peo have died from tornadoes in 5 states. that is almost triple the number of tornado-related deaths all year. all of new mexico is under a state of emergency because of a

massive snowstorm there. more than 16 inches of snow has already fallen in some parts of the state, and it's still coming down. and because of strong winds, snow drifts are as high as 8 feet. new mexico's governor calls it a dire situation. she activated the national guard to help stranded drivers. and keep on eye around the weather around the nation and in your backyard with the nbc 10 news app. it's a free download. well the rain is creating a messy night on the vine street expressway. our camera captured this crash around 11:00 tonight. a car hits into two barrier walls at the entrance to 676 from 76 eastbound. state police say distracting driving or wet roads could have played a factor in this crash. it happened after an hour after another crash in this exact same spot on the vine street expressway. in the earlier crash, two people were taken to the hospital. both accidents are cleared now, but the vine street expressway

is still closed off to traffic. well, it's a busy travel day as millions try to get home after christmas. the roads, rails and skies were packed with holiday travelers. nbc 10's drew smith is live at philadelphia international airport where the problem's slowing down some of those trying to get home now between the weather and some parts of the country and our rain, it has been a tough traffic day, drew. >> reporter: denise, we're starting to see morei.x passeng come out relieved that they got here. they got through those delays, that bad cl acrol weather acros country slowing people's trips home from their holiday vacations. passengers collected their bags after delayed flights and rocky landingses. >> i'm traveling by myself, still looking around is anyone else freaking out? then we finally landed safely, the flight attendant was like, that was a little intense. >> reporter: philadelphia international airport restricted some air traffic because of low clouds and rain causing dozens of inbound flights to arrive more than an hour and a half

late. >> we made it fine. >> reporter: some families arriving from out west were glad they got out when they did. >> we dodged a big snowstorm on the way back, so we got here -- we got a two-hour delay on the way back, just for rain that was here. >> canceled until further notice. >> reporter: passengers hoping to take septa trains into the city from the terminal were out of luck for a few hours because of a power failure. they had to board buses instead.

smith, nbc 10 news. new information tonight into this chaotic scene involving more than 500 people inside the deptford mall. police tell us more charges could be filed after what they're calling a large disturbance at the mall saturday night. see in this video people in a crowd near the sears store. one juvenile was arrested and large groups of people were kicked out of the mall. deptford police say nothing got physical inside the mall but fights happened in the parking lot. also new from south jersey tonight, gloucester county police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex. investigators tell nbc 10 one person was shot around 9:00 tonight at the park crest village in glassboro. so far, police aren't releasing

any more detail ors naming any suspects. from our delaware bureau a family dog is being credited with stopping a burglary. new castle county police say two suspects forced their way into a home just after 10:00 last night on minquadale boulevard. police say that's when the homeowner let her dog out of its cage. the dog chased the suspects out of the home into a waiting car. police in west philadelphia are investigating a shoot that sent one man to the hospital. it happened near 60th and spruce streets around 4:30 this afternoon. police say a 21-year-old was shot in the rear end and he was transported to presbyterian hospital in critical condition. no arrests have been made. the mother of a philadelphia teenager is asking for help finding the people who attacked her son. she says a group of kids jumped her 14-year-old son in tacony yesterday. nbc 10's aundrea cline thomas

talked to the boy's mother. >> reporter: it was supposed to be a quick two or three block walk down here. they were headed to the 7-eleven when the 14 qulld was attacked. the parents asked we not reveal their identities for fear of retaliation but want their story told. >> there was a group of kids sitting right here on bikes and we were starting to walk across the street. >> reporter: the cousins said they were confronted by a group of 10 or 12 teens who asked the cousins if they knew another kid. the cousins said no. two of the teens in the group allegedly attacked the 14-year-old. >> one of them punched me in the neck. and i kept on walking because i didn't want to start anything with him. we continued to walk this way. >> when they got up to us, we were right here and by the time we all got up to us, we were at that wall. when the one kid came up in front of us and cut us off. >> reporter: the 14-year-old said he was pushed head first into the brick by these metal garage doors. his cousin helped him up.

they ran down the block to the 7 7-eleven to get help. >> i got three staples. >> reporter: add to that bruised ribs. >> i will press charges, i will to save another child from it happening to them. >> reporter: mother jennifer simon filed a police report and shared what happened on the mayfair facebook page. online residents said they saw a group of kids hanging out at different locations last night. >> they were not even a block away from ohm and they weren't out of the house three seconds and it happened, like, it's terrifying. >> reporter: the teenagers said they did not recognize any of the boys in the group. meanwhile, philadelphia police are investigating. reporting in tacony, aundrea cline thomas nbc 10 news. outrage and grief tonight in chicago after two more people are shot to death by police. 19-year-old quintonio lagrear and betty jones were shot by police 4:30 yesterday morning when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. police say officers were

confronted by combative individual resulting in an officer opening fire but the family says her son had never shown combative behavior before. skbl you call for help, the police are supposed to service and protect us and yet they take the life. what's wrong with that picture? it's a badge to kill? >> in a statement, police said jones was accidentally struck and offered deepest condolences. the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty for 30 days pending an independent police review. well tonight attorneys for phillies slugger ryan howard are threatening legal action for a report the first baseman received performance-enhancing drugs. howard's lawyers call the claims made in a al jazeera report outright lies. the al jazeera documentary that aired tonight focused mainly on quarterback peyton manning alleging he received human

growth hormone from an anti-aging clinic. the former clinic employee who made the allegations has since recanted his statements. manning calls the story a complete fabrication. >> disgusted is really how i feel. sickened by it that i'm not sure i understand how someone can make something up about somebody, admit that he made it up and yet somehow it gets published in a story. >> new tonight, the phillies released a statement saying in part, "ryan has been an extremely well-respected member of our team and an outstanding contributor to our community. we will fully cooperate with any investigation by major league baseball." we'll get more from ryan howard's attorney ahead in sports and have more reaction from peyton manning. well pennsylvania governor tom wolf could decide later today whether to sign a budget bill and end the six-month stalemate.

the $30.3 billion budget package features a 4.5% spending increase. it was written by house republican leaders and contains less help for public schools and social services than what the governor had wanted. governor wolf could choose to sign the bill, let it become law without his signature, eliminate parts of it or veto it. in south philadelphia, a popular recreation center is getting a makeover. now in the morning, mayor michael nutter and other city leaders will join eagles linebacker connor barwin for a groundbreaking ceremony at the smith recreation center. it's set to undergo a nearly $3 million renovation. the revamped state of the art facility will feature new basketball courts, a new playground and fitness trails. well the big apple is getting ready to drop the ball for new year's eve. the final preparations under way now and see what's so special about this year's design. and a big surprise for one

the boston chipotle restaurant at the center of a

neurovirus outbreak is back open for business. the restaurant closed on december 9th after many of its customers including a lot of boston college students got sick. in all, 136 people became ill in the outbreak. boston health inspectors made all workers go through a food safety course before giving the all clear for the place to re-open. it started welcoming customers again saturday. >> i've always eaten here and never gotten sick, so -- >> not worried at all today? >> no, not at all. >> this e. coli outbreak was not linked to the round of e. coli cases that forced dozens of chipotle restaurants to close across the country. traveling on a busy holiday weekend isn't always fun but for a mississippi man, today was his lucky day. larry kendrick was the 100 millionth person to travel through atlanta's hartsfield-jackson international airport this year. kendrick's reward, how about a new car, two round-trip tickets anywhere in the world, and a

asthma rates are slowing down in american children after increasing for decades. that's according to a new government study from 2001 to 2013. childhood asthma rates peaked in 2009 then dropped off significantly in 2013. in that year, 8.3% of kids have the condition. but the number of poor children with asthma continues to rise. experts believe kids living in poverty may be impacted by other factors linked to asthma. those include air pollution, tobacco smoke, and obesity. holiday return season is in full effect right now but that's not the only reason stores will be busy this week. according to a sturvey by the national retail federation nearly 66% of holiday shoppers plan to shop after-christmas sales this week. 47% will shop at a store.

nbc 10 news starts now. tonight a dramatic dip in our temperatures as winter makes a return. we're tracking a wintry mix for part of our region and it comes after a day of record-breaking warmth. the streets are still wet from the rain that fell tonight. now it's going to get a lot colder. people took advantage of the warmer weather today for a stroll on the beach at cape may. you don't usually see as many people on the beach this time of year. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the changes coming to us overnight. michelle? >> that's right, hi there, denise. we have big-time changes. we're going to be dramatically different on monday. temperatures in the 40s. we're going to have a pretty brisk wind. going to feel colder than it actually is. we're actually going to see the potential for winter weather monday into tuesday for some. right now we're looking at clouds outside. also little bit of light rain falling across the area. a cold front is exiting the area. that will usher in that cold air

1,400 mohomes damaged in th dallas area after a outbreak of tornadoes. recovery crews picked through the rubble searching for more than victims. more than 20 people have been killed by tornadoes in five states since wednesday. as nbc 10 national correspondent brian mooar reports, the threat is not over. >> reporter: across a huge swath of suburban dallas, residents are struggling to pick up the pieces. survivors, but still victims of a monster storm and the massive tornadoes it unleashed. >> we built the house 28 years -- sorry, i don't know what i'm supposed to say. i'm sorry. >> there's stuff flying in the air. >> reporter: at least 20 twisters tore across north texas killing eight in the community of garland. and the lone star state is still on edge with more waves of severe weather on the way. while some areas hunkered down

front porch near 67th and lebanon in overbrook. so far, there are no arrests in these or any of the four shootings in southwest philadelphia saturday night. including the killing of a teenager. to south jersey now, a fire destroyed a vacant home in mt. laurel this morning. this picture sent to us by one of our viewers. you can see the heavy smoke as fire crews managed to get that fire on canterbury road under control. no word on what caused the fire. a holy heist investigation in new jersey after a baby jesus statue was swiped from a nativity scene, the st. claire church in clifton passaic county. that statue is piestimated at a few hundred dollars but it's a crime that has the church talking. police are reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses in the hopes of finding a suspect. >> people put
