visibility, a dense fog advisory for parts of bucks county, montgomery county, also mercer county, trenton included and north and west through the lehigh valley. with this we're looking at visibility near zero miles in coatesvil coatesville, that's dense fog, a mile and a quarter in pottstown. a quarter mile in allentown, a half mile in reading, quarter mile in trenton. so we are looking at the dense fog possibly causing delays later on this morning too, that dense fog advisory goes until about 10:00. temperaturewise, we're at 39 in allentown, 47 philadelphia, 43 in pottstown, 46 millville, 46 in atlantic city. a cool start to your morning. as we go through the day we'll be warming back into the mid-50s. so your planner. we'll keep the fog around for the early morning hours by 7:00 a.m. around 46 degrees, by 11:00 a.m., showers later, i'll show you timing coming up, a check on the roads with jessica boyington.

>> we are watching ongoing construction on the vine street expressway, yesterday we had this picked up relatively early, at least an hour or so because of the rain but this morning back in business. this is right around 24th street, westbound, eastbound closed now to traffic, no cars moving through. so that's between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. it should be out there until about 5:00 this morning. as for the rest of the area roadways, we have traffic lights out and malfunctioning at the bottom of the ramp from the schuylkill to city avenue. no backup there but use some caution when traveling through. the rest of the drive times are great. schuylkill and 95 into center city, the blue route from the schuylkill to 95 is 15 minutes. when i come back we'll check with mass transit. >> we'll see you then. thanks. >> the chip kelly era is over. the eagles fired the head coach with one game to go. kelly started out with two winning seasons and one playoff game. then 2015. kelly got full control of the roster but failed to make the postseason after a flurry of

changes that drained the team of its best players. many of those players left angry and some made claims with racial overtones. >> wouldn't talk to people. you walk down the hallway, he wouldn't say anything. >> nothing. >> eagles owner jeffrey lurie tapped pat shurmur to replace kelly this sunday. we'll have more on what he said about the firing coming up in a few minutes. so this season has been one of frustration and disappointment for the eagles fans and something had to give. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in south philadelphia outside the melrose diner where news of kelly's firing is the talk of the town. matt. >> reporter: yeah, tracy, a lot of frustration this morning. a lot of people expected that chip kelly might get fired but not with one game still left in this season. no question 6-9 here, so far, after chip made that big change

over the off season, trading players and assuming control of the entire personnel. especially now with a few days ago, here there were still some hope really that there would be a playoff chance, a chance to win the nfc east but no more and no more chip kelly. he didn't get to finish the third season with the keeagles. we talked with fans after 7:00 last night and people were really discussing what happened out here. >> i feel like he didn't really do his job as a coach. i feel maybe he was bert as a college coach not nfl coach. >> get rid of key players, you had inexperienced players and you can't run a team that way. >> i feel sorry for the guy. i do. >> reporter: and i'll be getting more reaction from fans

post your comments. >> after jeffrey lurie fired kelly he made sure to explain himself. ahead we'll show you what he wrote in a letter to eagles fans. you can count on nbc 10 and our mobile app for average and more reaction to chip kelly's firing. it's 4:06. 46 degrees. a deadly shooting investigation, the victim died just feet from his home, now police are trying to track down as many as four different shooters. nbc 10's katy zachry is live at philadelphia police headquarters. what do we know about this shooting? sort it out for us. >> reporter: this crime is a few hours hold so if you can imagine there is a lot of unanswered questions. however, police do have some strong evidence to go on. we're told that they found footage of the shooting from a surveillance camera that was located right at the scene. here's what happened. investigators say when they arrived on the scene around 11:30 last night they found a 25-year-old man lying on the sidewalk near eighth and ontario

street, he was unconscious. he had been shot at least half a dozen times. police rushed him to temple university hospital where he was pronounced dead. back at the scene we're told that they found shell casings from at least three different guns. and after a thorough search discovered surveillance video showing the exact moment when the victim was shot and killed. police say from that video they know he was approach bid four men as he was walking home feet from his steps. the four men opened fire. police do have information on the getaway vehicle that all four men jumped into and i'm working on putting that together for you coming up in the next hour. we'll have that information. reporting live in front of police headquarters, katy zachry, "nbc 10 news." >> new information police arrested one man and looking for a second following a series of propane tank thefts in northeast philadelphia. we showed you surveillance video of the robberies earlier this month. police say their investigation

led them to a lot on wheat shift lane where they found two vehicles and several of the tanks. they know the identity of the second man they are looking for. counter terrorism officials are also involved in the investigation. now from our south jersey bureau. camden county remembers one of its most popular police officers. a funeral procession was held yesterday for zero, a police canine. other officers and canines watched and saluted as zero was taken to rockman animal hospital draped in an american flag. he died monday night. his handler found him yesterday morning. >> he allowed us to build bridges, both partnerships and to be part of this community. i will so miss him. he was a member of my family. he was a member of this family. there's no other dog like him. >> zero broke the state record

for catching the most criminals by any canine and as the lieutenant said he helped build bonds between police and camden residents by appearing at parks and community events. it's 4:09. now to an update on a story yesterday morning. we have learned that a guy seen using a sledgehammer at the rainbow crosswalk in center city philadelphia works for the city water department. the department issued a statement apologizing for the disturbance at 13th and locust and misunderstanding, a spoke person went on to say it was not tubs the observer that legitimate work was being done since a marked vehicle was not in the immediate vicinity. >> today, pennsylvania convention center with a sneak peek at the fans the brigade. you're invited to see about a dozen rehearsing for the strut down broad street. the mummers fest runs from 4:30 to 9, fancies preview starting tonight at 6, mummers fest runs through tomorrow. you can buy tickets at the

convention center or the philadelphia visitors center. here's a live look outside. we have fog in the area this morning. but different than yesterday because we are dry. and we're going to stay that way as we go through this morning. you don't see the top of the buildings there because we're dealing with fog, some areas dealing with dense fog this morning. satellite and radar showing the clouds around but no rain. the fog is mostly north and west of philadelphia, at least the dense fog through the lehigh valley. and we're also talking about mercer, bucks, montgomery, chester counties, where visibility in some areas is close to zero so it's going to make pretty bad driving conditions in spots so you might want to take it slower on the roadways. trenton at a quarter mile visibility, a quarter mile in allentown, zero in coatesville, 1.25 in pottstown, reading a half mile. for south jersey and delaware the visibility is lower but it's nothing that would cause dense

fog at this point. so this is mainly going to be areas north and west. a lot of that is because of the rain we had yesterday. temperatures right now are in the mid-40s from wilmington to northeast philly, trenton at 41, 44 washington township, some areas north and west in the 30s now, 39 allentown and doylestown, 37 quakertown, 43 reading and pottstown and for south jersey and delaware we're mainly in the mid-40s. we'll be warming to about the mid-50s. so, as we go through your morning the fog is going to stay around so give yourself extra time on the roadways, especially if you are north and west through the lehigh valley or our north and west suburbs. 9:00, 47 degrees, 11:00, temperature around 50 degrees, and we have rain coming later in the day. i'll show you timing of that coming up. >> 11 minutes past 4. let's see how the fog is affecting the ride to work if you're heading out this time this morning. jessica is watching the roads including 95. >> 95 a lot of construction and we have those ramp closures, 95

northbound around girard avenue and 95 southbound around aramingo avenue. the drive times are okay. even southbound from woodhaven to the vine street expressway, 14 minutes, no problems if you're headed northbound right now even with those ramp closures. heading into new jersey we're watching 295 right now, this is right in west deptford around 130 you can see no problems there and any direction if you're heading to the delaware memorial bridge from the 42 freeway to the bridge, 23 minute drive times there. we're going to head north on 295, watch out for a disabled tractor-trailer out in florence township. northbound around columbus road which is around exit 52, the left lane is blocked. well, chip kelly is out after three seasons as head coach. coming up jeff lurie wrote a letter to fans why he decided it was time to pull the plug. and it's the end of the road for philadelphia's biggest cheerleader. nbc 10 talked with michael nutter and what he thinks

today at noon eagles joaner jeffrey lurie will answer questions about his firing of chip kelly. last night he wrote, i spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. as i watched this season unfold i determined that it was time to make a change. as we move forward the search for a new head coach will begin, and will be led by myself, don smolenski and howie roseman. to the extent we're able we'll try to keep you informed as we go through this process. >> now take a look at chip kelly yesterday at what would be his final practice with the eagles.

chip started off in philadelphia 19-9, finished 7-12. one report said kelly did not fight jeff lurie's decision and that kelly wants to stay in the nfl. another report said that kelly balked at the suggestion that kelly give up control of player personnel. here is reaction from eagles broadcaster and former bird ike reese. >> i can't say i'm totally surprised, obviously when you take a risk and do some of the things that chip kelly did as a head coach by turning over the roster, by basically looking at a 10-16 team last year and selling to the owner that wasn't good enough, you could tear this thing all the way down and the only way you were going to be able to justify the moves he made is by wink on this field. >> also, check out this cartoon running in the "philadelphia daily news" today, showing a punctured rubber ducky naped chip with the caption phillies deflate gate.

ahead more reaction to kelly's firing. hear from ray diddinger why he thinks there will be more turmoil ahead. >> 4:17. in other news, the affluenza team who ran off to mexico will be returned. police caught up with ethan couch and his mother on monday. he had dyed his hair dark. authorities issued a warrant for couch. earlier this month after his probation officer couldn't reach him. he was on juvenile probation after killing four people in a drunk driving wreck two years ago, at sentencing his defense attorney made the affluenza argument saying that his parents didn't teach him right from wrong. >> chicago mayor rahm emanuel is scheduled to reveal his plan for transforming his city's police department. the mayor's office says emmanuel will call for new officer training to help reduce the intensity of conflicts. he's also expected to call for arming every street officer with a taser.

emmanuel has faced calls for his resignation after the deadly police shooting of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. >> no major damage or injuries from an earthquake that shook portions of southern california. the 4.7 quake hit north of san bernardino last night, followed by several strange after shocks. here's what the seismic reading, officials with the u.s. geological survey say over 10 days there have been three works and in the last few hours a 4.3 quake hit british columbia. there are no reports of damage there. deadly flooding in the midwest has forced evacuations and wiped out roads. rain swollen rivers continue to rise in missouri where flooding caused by storms has killed 13 people. residents filled sand bags to try to hold back the water. the river broke through leaving some stranded. rescuers pulled a man off the roof of his home. >> the water started coming up

pretty quick and before i knew it i was kind of overwhelmed, had to call the fire department to bail me out. >> missouri is under a state of emergency and the governor called out the national guard. heavy rain has also caused flooding in georgia and alabama, up to 14 inches of rain fell in some areas. >> now to southern california. not known for wintry weather but they have some winter now. about two inches of snow has fallen on mount laguna northeast of san diego. enough for the kids to do some sledding. well, we have some issues this morning on the roadways just because of dense fog, not the rain like we had yesterday but we have a dense fog advisory this morning, mostly north and west of philadelphia. late showers today, too, so we're going to see some rain in the forecast, not until i think after the evening commute. and then a colder start to 2016.

temperatures will be dropping into the 40s for day time highs. a look at the fog now. quarter mile visibility in allentown, 3/4 mile in reading, zero in coatesville, half mile in lancaster. quarter mile in trenton. these are the areas we have the dense fog advisory. you can see that through the lehigh valley, north and west of philadelphia. philadelphia is not bad around 5 mile visibility and south jersey and delaware, low visibilities but not enough to be considered dense fog. that's mainly through the north and west suburbs. 39 allentown, 43 pottstown. 47 wilmington. 46 degrees in millville and atlantic city and as far as that fog is concerned it should start to lift around 9:00 the advisory ends at 10:00. clouds are around but no rain on the radar and it's going to stay this way most of the day here is a look at future weather. the clouds are locked in. this is noon, cloudy but not rainy yet. then late tonight around 7:00, 8:00 we should see some rain

moving in. so, some showers moving through the overnight hours and then clearing as we go into thursday. thursday doesn't look bad. new year's eve, nice and dry. then we go overnight into midnight. 1:00 a.m. into 2016. nice and dry but also quite a bit colder. for today, early fog around but the late rain also will be here, 54 to 57 for the high temperature. so today, mid-50s, tomorrow around 50 degrees, friday for 2016, we're going to be starting off the new year in the mid-40s. 42, though, for your saturday. >> thanks for that. 4:21. let's check your ride to work on this wednesday morning. among other roads, jessica boyington has a look at that. >> we're smooth sailing on 422 so that's a good thing. this is our camera right around trooper road, so trooper road in here. that works, not active now. most of the volume starts to pack later on in the morning commute. ahead toward the schuylkill you can see everybody is moving along. 7 minutes, eastbound from 29 to

the schuylkill at that point. no problems if you're headed westbound. route 202 pretty much the same story. we're in the green, 10 minutes, 11 minutes at the most southbound from the schuylkill to route 30. i'll check in with mass transit when i come back in the next 10. >> we'll see you then. in less than a week we'll see a changing of the guard in philadelphia, mayor michael nutter within hand over the reins of the government to jim kenney. he's reflecting on his eight-year tenure. he says poverty remains the city's biggest challenge. more than one in five philadelphians lives below the poverty line. it's not a new problem but what he is most focused on as he prepares to leave office. >> we've had a poverty rate over 20% for 30-plus years. so it's in a generation. there are you know, adults who may have actually been in poverty themselves during the crush of their childhood.

pass. the cards can be linked to a bank account or replenished at kiosks or on line. >> more than nine miles of the new jersey shoreline will get a touch up in the new year. starting next month the u.s. army corps of engineers will pump sands on the beaches. the goal is to repair damage from a storm that came through following a project last fall. the federal government will foot the bill. the work should be completed by april. in philadelphia, the city is laying the groundwork for the new year's eve celebration at penns landing. nbc 10 was at the navy yard in south philadelphia yesterday where thousands of rounds of fireworks are waiting to be packed on a barge. this year there is a new early fireworks show that you can watch on nbc 10. >> we have a show at 6:00 which is "star wars" themed, so that should be the in trend for what it is, it's got great musical cuts as well as great fireworks to go with it.
