/. right now at 11:00, we are learning new information about an on-court controversy at a bucks county high school. it comes after this video surfaced showing what appears to be a head coach head-butting a referee and now that coach will be sitting on the sidelines. good morning, i'm vai sikahema. this incident happened last night during the shaat shamny h school. monique braxton is live. what are you hearing? >> reporter: we're learning coach jerry devine has been placed on administrative leave. we're also hearing for the very

first time from the pennsylvania interscholastic athletic association, but first, look at this video and you'll see what all of the commotion is about. you see devine, the head basketball coach for a decade, confronting a referee after a foul call during the game you also see devine bumping the refer referee. no one answered when we walked on the coach's door this morning. at the school we found a police cruiser. the chief tells us they learned of what happened once the video started going viral late last night. >> what we have is the video, but because we have that, with he do is an investigation. >> piaa says -- and we're quoting here -- "the coach is

than we did first thing this morning and warmer than yesterday, at least warmer feeling with bright sunshine, the wind has come down and the temperature, that's as warm as it got all day yesterday, 32 degrees. and it's still climbing. winds out of the west at five miles an hour so not much of a windchill, 27 degrees. 10 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. look at the satellite imagery, there's not a soingle cloud out there. so bright sunshine and less winds, light winds for trenton, northeast philadelphia, millville and calm conditions for reading and lancaster so it doesn't feel as cold as it did yesterday. and it will be warmer through the day. 37 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon and before we get to 4:00 i think we'll top out at 40 degrees today. but look how quickly it starts dropping. 7:00 this evening, 33 degrees and we're on our way to another cold night tonight. back in just a few minutes, vai, with the seven-day forecast to show you how long the cold mornings will last.

>> thank you, bill. happening now, three brothers convicted in the fort dix terror plot are fighting to get new trials. a judge is hearing arguments from their lawyers now. protesters gathered outside the u.s. courthouse in camden before this morning's hearing in the fort dix five case. they say the duca brothers were caught in a government sting operation that targeted muslims. human rights activists claimed the fbi entrapped the five suspects to win points on the war on terror. the trial judge will review the men's appeal notion see if they received a fair trial and effective legal counsel. the duca brothers got life sentences plus 30 years for plotting to attack the military base in burlington county in 2007. at that trial, a government informant testified the ducas knew nothing about the terror plot but in a federal conspiracy case, all associates are considered linked, even if they're not aware of the

details. >> hopefully now everything comes out, the truth comes out, they get a retrail and they come out. >> in addition to the duka brothers, a relative and friend were also convicted. new video of a fire in abington, montgomery county, crews were called to rockwell road and tremont avenue. this was around 6:00 this morning. this is video from brian sullivan. a woman and a child in the homemade it out safely. and one person in the hospital after this fire in west norriton, montgomery county. this person was flown to the hospital. the fire broke out at a home on rittenhouse boulevard around 5:00 a.m. the cause is you should investigation. a fight broke outinside this kohl's. police tell us a number of employees got into a brawl. no word on what started the fight or if anyone is under arrest. philadelphia police are

searching for a pair of armed men who stole a hoverboard and other items from to teenagers. the 14-year-old boys were outside a rec center at 57th and haverford avenue. the men were both armed with handguns and demanded the teens' property. in addition to the hoverboard they got away with an iphone and a book bag fill with clothes. and police are trying to identify this man who robbed a deli in the city's holmesburg section. he went in and out of mo's deli several times sunday morning. the third time he went back in, he pointed at gun at a cashier. the employee gave him cash from the register. the robber also took merchandise from the store. and take a look at this surveillance video of a robbery in gloucester county. two people, one armed with a knife, held up the knickknack store in washington township. this happened a week ago today.

you can see them taking money from a register as an employee stands with his arms held up in the air. police have not said how much money the robbers got away with. skyforce 10 is live over breaking news where philadelphia city workers found human skeletal remains in this vacant lot. this is on east cambria street in west kensington. we are working to get more information on this story and, of course, stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 10 app for updates on this breaking news. we'll bring it right to you. bill cosby's wife will not have to be deposed today in the civil suit against her husband. it's on hold, at least for now. a judge in springfield, massachusetts, postponed the deposition, yesterday, while camille cosby appeals an earlier ruling in the case. if cosby loses her appeal, she will be forced to testify in a defamation civil lawsuit from

seven women against her husband of 52 years. the deposition could include specific questions about the couple's sex life. we spoke to one of the women's attorneys by phone right after the stay was granted. jill camerota believes he will get a chance to interview camille cosby. >> there is a adage that people say that a perfect union is the marriage of a blind woman to a deaf man. she is not blind. she, i'm sure, did get to see and hear a lot. >> it could take at least a week if not longer before we know if camille cosby will have to testify. bill cosby is facing sexual assault charges in montgomery county in a separate case from 2004. phillies slugger ryan howard is suing a tv network after it reported -- it's reported claimed he used performance-enhancing drugs. howard filed a defamation lawsuit against al jazeera

america yesterday. last week, the network aired a documentary alleging that howard and other big-name athletes received human growth hormone from an anti-aging clinic. howard has denied any wrongdoing. nbc 10 has learned unarmed guards will be on duty inside schools in the coatesville area school district. the school board unanimously approved the cost after a threat of violence was posted on social media back in november. the superintendent told us yesterday four guards will start in about a week at the high school campus. the school board president says he is still pursuing a more permanent security measure for the schools. and happening today, drivers for uber black plan to hold a protest at the company's southwest philadelphia headquarters. drivers are demanding the ride-sharing service lower its commissions. they're also upset that they're forced to compete with uber x, a lower-cost alternative. also happening today,

following a developing story this morning a federal grand jury has subpoenaed chipotle as

part of a criminal investigation into last summer's norovirus outbreak at a california restaurant. chipotle says it must give documents to the fda and the state's u.s. attorney's office. the mexican food chain has been trying to recover from an e. coli outbreak linked to its restaurants in a separate norovirus outbreak that happened in boston. sales have nosedived since the outbreak. congress is scheduled to vote again today to repeal obamacare. this time it could land on the president's desk, as nbc's tracie potts shows us, the white house is gearing up for that fight and president obama's new gun sales restrictions. >> every time i think about those kids it gets me mad. >> reporter: the nra is calling president obama's tearful speech restricting gun show sales an emotional condescending lecture. republicans aren't thrilled, either. >> once again we've seen the

addressed the issue of ted cruz's eligibility to become president. >> there's a legal mind on the conservative side that has been saying that he has concerns that ted cruz may not be qualified to be president of the united states. >> i've been hearing a lot about it and you've been hearing and i guess everybody is talking about it now that he's doing better and i think they are looking at it. it's a problem for him and obviously for the republicans because let's assume he got the nomination and the democrats bring suit, the suit takes two to three years to solve. so how do you run? >> senator cruz was born in canada to an american mother which legal experts say qualifies him as a natural born citizen. democratic candidate hillary clinton will join vermont senator bernie sanders for a democrats' din hener last night las vegas. last night in iowa, someone asked her to contrast herself with her chief democratic rival.

>> with respect to my opponent who is a friend of mine, i think i have a broader, more co comprehensive set of policies about everything, including taking on wall street. >> most polls have clinton leading sanders in iowa and sanders ahead of clinton in new hampshire. a united airlines plane slid off a runway in washington state and ended up in a snowbank. the accident led to a two hour shut down of operations at spokane international airport. all 166 passengers were okay. officials blame the icy conditions. do you happen to remember where you were 20 years ago today? you were probably stuck at home. it's the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the blizzard of '96. the snow began falling on january 6, 1996 and didn't stop until the eighth. the severe nor'easter paralyzed the east coast and dumped 30 inches of snow on philadelphia. we dug into our archives to find

lafayette hotel. the water is very calm, not much wind. and temperatures in the teens in cape may are in the middle 30s. 36 at cape may. single digits for woodbine, now 30 degrees warmer than it was this morning. ocean view is 33 and in the 30s for atlantic city at the marina. we'll see low 40s at the shore. we'll see blue sky all day long, the clouds are way to the north, no storms coming at us for the rest of the work week. the weekend? that's a different story. today bright sunshine, brilliant sunshine at that. high temperatures up 30s to low 40s. with clear skies and light winds it means another cold start tomorrow morning. it won't be as cold as this morning, 24 degrees. that's normal for this time of year. 43, warmer in the afternoon with sunshine and a few clouds and milder on thursday 47, but the warmer air is timed with the clouds coming back and the

this is video of a coach seen head-butting a referee during a bucks county high school basketball game last night. the coach has been told to take a time out. monique braxton is live for us at that a shneshaminy high scho langhorne. what are they saying? >> the pennsylvania school association has released a statement, this comes hours after learning neshaminy's coach divine has been placed on administrative leave from coaching as well as teaching. here's the video that has gone viral. you see coach jerry devine, neshaminy's head basketball coach very animated and confronting a referee about a foul call during the close game. you also see what appears to be

devine bumping that referee who fell to the ground. the coach was ejected from the game. the ref got up and finished the game. no one answered when we knocked on the coach's door this morning. at the school, we found a police cruiser. the chief tells us they learned of what happened not because they were called to the school but when the video went viral late last night now police will investigate. piaa says, and we're quoting here "the coach is minimally disqualified from the next game and the school has been notified to report what additional corrective actions and penalties they will take in regard to this unacceptable act." now, the safety of players, officials and team personnel is the highest priority, actions such as this will not be tolerated." . according to the piaa rule book, coach devine could be suspended for one year for striking an initial. no doubt we'll be monitoring

the victim was flown to temple university hospital with smoke inhalation. the fire broke out at a home on rittenhouse boulevard around 5:00 this morning. it was caused by a faulty extension cord to a space heater. and a fight broke out in this kohl's in royersford montgomery county. a number of employees got into a brawl. two went to the hospital for minor injuries. no word on what started the fight or if anyone is under arrest. it's really feeling like winter out there and starting to look like winter, at least on the slopes there, on the runs, at least. camelback getting ready for skiing. they'll open up tomorrow. take a live look at the resort in the poconos. bill henley is here with the forecast. cold enough to have snow and keep snow on the ground, bill. >> it's going to stay on the ground and the next couple days we'll see temperatures climbing. we're seeing that today. good skiing conditions coming

up, especially since the wind has died down. look at this live view of boat house row. you can see the flags on top of the boat houses barely moving and the water a nice reflection of the buildings, the water is like glass. with less wind, the windchill isn't a problem and with bright sunshine and less wind you're getting a nice warmup, too. we're already 10 degrees warmer than yesterday in philadelphia, look at the pocono mountains, 15 degrees warmer. wildwood is up by 14. everybody is running warmer. though it's still chilly outside. 32 at philadelphia international, chester springs. 32 degrees. 20s for reading and pottstown but they will climb into the upper 30s in those spots and low 30s in delaware. woodbine 37 degrees. that's a quick warmup from the single digits first thing this morning. temperatures will climb. bright sunshine for the rest of the day. near 40 this afternoon. in fact, 1:00, 35 degrees. nowhere near the wind gusts we had yesterday. five miles an hour wind at 4:00 and in between 1:00 and 4:00 we'll hit 40 degrees.

then it cools down during the 4:00 hour. by 7:00, 33 degrees and falling. there are more cold temperatures ahead but a nice warmup, too. i have the seven-day forecast with the timing when i'm back in just a few minutes. >> see you then, bill. north korea claims it detonated its first hydrogen bomb. if true, it would mark a significant advance with the country's military and a disturbing threat to the region. nbc's bill neely has the latest. >> reporter: a north korean tv announcer claims the country's first hydrogen bomb test and calls it a success. "we won't stop our nuclear program" she says because of what she called "american aggression." they cheered in north korea's capital. they've seen three previous tests announced but never of an h-bomb, a far more powerful weapon. >> translator: the u.s. is waiting to invade our country so it's the right thing to do. >> reporter: "the hydrogen bomb"

he says, "is a reliable way of defending ourselves." the tremors were felt in china and in south korea where officials say it's a provocation. north korea's leader, kim jong-un, knows that, but signed the test order anyway. japan, too, is alarmed. military planes taking off to test air samples. the u.s. ambassador meeting to reassure a government that says the test is a serious threat. >> we stand with japan and our partners and allies in solidarity against north korean provocation. >> reporter: north korea's leader kim jong-un is still consolidating his power and now flexing his muscle at a world looking at north korea with real anxiety. it may takes week to work out if this was a hydrogen bomb and if it was a successful test and, indeed, a viable device. but anything that can produce a seismic shop of 5.1 is dangerous. and there will be consequences for north korea. the u.n. will meet later and may

move toward tighter sanctions but kim jong-un is unlikely to be deterred by that. back to you. >> bill neely reporting from london. today will be the fourth full day of an armed group's occupation of a national wildlife preserve in oregon and members fear a federal raid. one gunman says he believes federal officials have issued warrants for the arrest of five group members. the group is taking a defensive position in anticipation of a possible raid. the fbi says it has no information on arrest warrants and that authorities are still working on a peaceful resolut n resolution. >> it's time for you to leave our community. go home to your families and end this peacefully. >> reporter: about 20 armed men took over several buildings in a remote part of oregon on saturday. they say the federal government has too much control over local land and they're rallying behind two ranchers who are now in prison for starting fires on federal land allegedly to cover up poaching.

a developing story outside of atlanta, police and swat team members are on the scene of a hostage standoff involving a two-year-old boy. police say the gunman's son called 911 around 10:00 p.m. last night and said his father was threatening to kill everyone in the home. after swat officers arrived, the gunman let several family members leave but kept the two-year-old boy inside with him. happening today, a friend of one of the san bernardino shooters is expected to head to court. enrique marquez is scheduled to be arraigned. he was a friend of syed farook who authorities say carried out the december 2 mass shooting with his wife tashfeen malik. prosecutors accuse marquez of buying two assault weapons used in the attack. marquez faces charges that include providing material support to terrorists and making false claims in statements. the fbi, meanwhile, the s

asking the public to help them account for the 18 missing minutes the timeline of the san bernardino terror attack. the husband and wife team were on the run after gunning down 14 people and wound manager more. investigators want to know where were they during those missing minutes? specifically did they meet with anyone or have any help. >> we want to make sure if they made contact with anyone that we don't know about between those hours and that time that we're able to fully investigate the matters. >> the fbi eventually caught up with the couple that same afternoon. their run from authorities ended in a shootout with police and both were killed. police in houston are searching for two men who kidnapped a car salesman during a test drive and stole the car. jose martinez has a broken nose, stitches and bruises but is expected to make a full recovery. he says things went wrong shortly after he and a potential car buyer pulled out of the

dealership's lot. >> pulled over randomly and i was getting a little suspicious so i tried to turn the car off: i turned it off, i asked for the keys. >> a second man arrived who also attacked martinez. the two forced him into the car's trunk. martinez pulled an emergency latch and jumped out. he did intentionally leave his smart phone in the car so police could track it using gps. authorities found the car which had crashed in another vehicle but the two attackers had run off. authorities are asking for the public's help finding a woman they say has pulled off a series of jewelry heists across the south. nbc's janet shanlian shows us how she did it. >> reporter: they're brazen robberies that have the fbi and police in five states stumped. a string of jewelry heists across the south over a nine-month period making off with nearly a half million dollars in valuables.

the latest armed robbery coming monday morning at a vault location in mebane, north carolina, following similar thefts in georgia, south carolina, and tennessee. the same woman believed to have committed all six robberies with a male partner helping her in the first three. during monday's heist, she held workers at gunpoint and, according to the fbi, forced two employ please go a back room and zip tied their hands before taking merchandise. in at least one of the robberies, store employees say the female suspect had come in a day earlier inquiring about some of the items she later stole. this morning, authorities are asking for the public's help while wondering where she'll strike next. janet shanlian, nbc news. >> you know what you did. you know what you did, right? >> reporter: this california woman confronted a starbucks barista and accused the teen of stealing her credit card information and using it at a

grocery store. she said she had video to prove it. the 19-year-old barista apologized profusely on camera. the video has been viewed millions of times and starbucks fired the barista. the customer decided to not press charges against the teen because she decided the firing and internet shaming was punishment enough. an suv slammed into a maryland flower shop causing the store to catch fire. this happened shortly after midnight in calvert county just outside washington, d.c. three firefighters were hurt trying to put out the flames. it's not clear what caused the crash and authorities haven't released any details about the driver. a cat needed some human help to get out of a little tight spot. the feline found itself trapped in a three-inch gap between two walls in scottsdale, arizona. the fire department crew used a chisel and sledgehammer to delicately open up that hole big enough to pull the cat through.

in the future. researchers from harvard school of public health followed a large group of twins over three decades and they found that well above a third of those people developed cancer. 38% of those twin pairs who were developed from the same fertilized egg and about a quarter of those fertilized from two separate eggs were diagnosed with the same cancer type. wegmans is recalling more than a thousand pounds of chicken because it was produced without a federal inspection. take a look. these are the products being recalled. like italian-flavored chicken breast cutlets. the vacuum-sealed packages were sold in new jersey and in pennsylvania. if you want to check this list against what you have in your fridge, it's on nbc10.com and also the nbc 10 app. wegmans says they have no reports of anyone getting sick. twitter may be ready to abandon its decade-old limit on the length of tweets. reports say the service may expand posts from 140 characters

to as many as 10,000. twitter's ceo isn't confirming the change but is dropping some pretty strong hints. he says many people are already circumventing the limit by taking screen shots of texts and tweeting those. he did exactly that yesterday, in fact, tweeting a shot of a 10-paragraph text which works out to about 1300 characters. the latest and greatest apps and devices are being unveiled at the consumer electronics show in las vegas. national reporter jay gray is there with a look at the next big things. hey there. from the opening day of the consumer electronics show, two million square feet of exhibits, more than 170,000 expected to take it in. it's not open to the public but we do have a few of the hot items here. let's give you a look at what you can see. first drones, they're still a big deal. you can fold this drone up and take writ you need to go and unfold it and be ready to fly.
