doctors still have work to do to repair the nerve damage to three gunshots to his arm. th investigators are hard at work checking into the criminal charges on the man tonight. philadelphia police drove edward archer away from headquarters and along with a new mugshot came eight formal charges, including attempted murder, assault on an officer, and gun violations. they're all related to this, caught on surveillance, 11 gunshot ambush thursday night. >> very shocking. very upsetting. very sad. >> reporter: neighbors watched fbi evidence teams searching through homes linked to archer frid. we're now told no guns or isis materials turned up. but investigators are searching phones and a computer. family members have chosen not to speak on camera. but longtime neighbors are skeptical that the 30-year-old was radicalized. >> he seemed like a cool guy. >> reporter: off camera archer's

grandfather told us he wasn't aware of any mental issues with his grandson, raised baptist but converted to islam several years ago. investigators have not found ties to terror during archer's past travel to egypt and saudi arabia. taking photos and shaking hands, the mayor showed support for the muslim community at a north philly mosque. they painted a mural called windows of peace. kenny stood by his earlier statement, that this violence had nothing to do with islam. >> that act, that terrible man, almost assassinating our police officer, was an individual act of criminality. not an act of religion. >> reporter: a judge did not grant bail, and archer should be back in court january 25th. as for the officer, he's still going to be in the hospital through next week. we're told he will undergo more surgery. drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> local muslims worry the ambush could spark backlash against the islamic community. members of the al aqsa islamic

society in northern philadelphia painted a mural today. it's to show support after the desecration of the mosque late last year, when someone threw a pig's head at it. they feel people are making unfair assumptions about them. >> it's very frustrating for us. every time there's an incident on the news, we feel the backlash. >> the mural will be put on display soon. it's called windows of peace. stuck down a hole for hours. tonight a worker is free after being trapped almost 20 feet underground in old city. take a look. here's video of crews pulling him to safety on market street. the officials say the trickiest part was removing the large rock pinning his feet and legs which they didn't want to shift underneath the busy street. >> that boulder that was trapping the man's foot, we had to shore that up. so our special operations team were able to shore that up, free

expect to see as we push into tomorrow morning, heavy rain. the possibility of street flooding. isolated thunderstorms a possibility. and really strong wind gusts, actually along the shore ranging between 40 and 45 miles per hour. so here's a closer look at the radar. we're actually seeing a little bit of drizzle throughout the philadelphia area. the brunt of the system is still off to the west and also the south west. we'll see an area of low pressure slide to the northeast. it's also going to help pull up a warm front. our temperatures are actually going to warm up as we go through the day tomorrow. you'll also notice as we head into our overnight hours, our rain is going to pick up in intensity. some of the heaviest rain is going to fall throughout your morning hours. by 6:00 a.m., the heaviest rain is right over philadelphia. this will continue at least until about 10:00 a.m. so here's how your day's going to break down when you wake up tomorrow. 61 degrees, still dealing with isolated showers. notice the temperatures in the 60s by monday. our daytime highs will be in the 30s. i'm tracking an arctic blast. i'll go over the details coming

notorious drug kingpin el chapo guzman is back in the same mexican prison he escaped from six months ago. months before his recapture, he met with actor sean penn. "rolling stone" magazine said penn met with el chapo in his hideout where they discussed everything from drug trafficking to middle east politics. it seems his desire for the spotlight may have led to el chapo's recapture. the mexican attorney general said the kingpin was trying to

officer hartnet is a symbol of the difficult times for police nationwide. the 33-year-old was nearly assassinated on a street corner in west philadelphia. police union president said the attack on hartnet proves simply being a cop can make you a target. >> it's not because jesse was white, whether he was black, it was because, you know, he was wearing a uniform, a badge, and driving a philadelphia police car. it's as simple as that. >> he said officers patrolling in pairs have helped calm some fears in the wake of the ambush. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. >> good evening. expect temperatures tomorrow to push into the 60s. but we're also going to see rainfall. so we have a first alert weather day that i issued for tomorrow morning. throughout your sunday morning, at least through noon, we do expect to see heavy rain, the possibility of street flooding. isolated thunderstorms are

possible. wind gusts up to about 40, 45 miles per hour. if you have a lot of plans sunday morning, you definitely want to take it easy, allow a little extra time to get where you need to go. here's a closer look at the radar shot. this is a system that's going to move through. we're already seeing a little bit of light drizzle throughout the area, and we'll start to see more of the rainfall moving in over the next couple of hours. it will be the heaviest in the early morning hours. by 5:00 a.m., you'll notice some of the moderate rainfall starting to move into parts of philadelphia, stretching out to the northern parts of delaware, into lancaster county, into the allentown area. and then throughout the morning hours, it continues moderate to heavy downpours expected, at least through 7:00 a.m. you'll notice it will start to lighten up a little bit. but again, with ewon't see a lot of clearing until 10:00, 11:00 in the afternoon. then we'll see another round sunday evening with isolated showers expected to move through. we'll start to see clearing and a cold front's going to come through and drop our temperatures. this is a closer look at how

much more rainfall we expect to get as we go through the morning on sunday. we could get as much as an inch in philadelphia. close to an inch and a half in reading. in lancaster, we expect rainfall amounts to reach about one inch in wilmington. we have a coastal flood advisory which will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to noon on sunday, and the concerns there, minor tidal flooding. that's going to be at high tide, which will happen between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. you want to be careful right along the shore. for philadelphia, 50 degrees right now. a little bit of light rain coming down. wind speeds at 10 miles per hour. it is foggy out there right now as well. temperature-wise throughout the rest of the region, 45 degrees in allentown. 37 in the poconos. we're warmer than this time yesterday already. the warming trend will continue into sunday. but temperatures will drop quickly, that mild air is going to retreat. arctic air is going to move in monday. and then another arctic blast moves through on wednesday. so our temperatures throughout most of next week will stay in
