anchs nbc 10 breaking news. nbc 10 is following breaking developments related to thursday's ambush of a philadelphia police officer by a man who police say claimed he did it in the name of islam. police are now investigating anonymous tip that the threat is not over. now, that tipster claims the suspect edward archer is part of a brigger group and that police need to be cautious. archer is facing attempted murder and other charges stemming from the ambush of officer jesse hartnett in west philadelphia thursday night. nbc 10's drew smith has been following the story for us. he is live in west philadelphia with more on the new threat investigation. drew? >> reporter: denise, police made clear that they don't know if the information contained in this tip is true or not. they're working on investigating it, and they are taking it seriously. also, the woman who told police this information gave specific

information right after she said the threat is not over. here at southwest detectives we've been here all afternoon. we've seen police already making changes. they're doubling up, working in pairs. that is something that has gone on since thursday night after the ambush on officer jesse hartnett. police confirmed that yesterday a woman who wished to stay anonymous approached an officer on the street. she warned that the man now charged in the shooting of officer hartnett was, quote, part of a group that consists of three others and they still frequent the 6100 block of pine. police should be careful. we've heard from police who call this a troubling time but it won't stop them from doing their jobs. >> i understand that there are a lot of good people out here in society. one bad apple won't change our student about how we treat the public. our service will still be quality. we'll still act with inkeg ritt and do the right thing on the street. >> reporter: also included in that tip, the woman told police that edward archer, the man now in custody, was not the most

radical of a group of four men. police are working to reinterview that tipster, and they are actively investigating this tip. live at southwest detectives, drew smith nbc 10 news. it's hard to see, but take a look at this video. police say it shows a man trying to take an officer's gun while he was visiting officer hartnett at presbyterian hospital last night. investigators say the man approached the officer and asked for money. the officer gave him 5 bucks and then the man turned and tried to swipe his gun. police say the man told officers he was going to use it to rob a chinese restaurant. officer jesse hartnett remains in the hospital following thursday night's ambush. hartnett suffered nerve damage when he was shot three times in his left arm. authorities say he'll need to undergo several surgeries to repair that damage. and count on nbc 10 and nbc10.com for your continuing coverage of the ambush. whenever news breaks, you'll be first to get the alerts with our

nbc 10 news app. today people across the region enjoyed highly unusual january temperatures in the mid-60s. down the shore in ventnor we saw walkers on the boardwalk dressed as if it were the middle of spring and a couple of brave souls even took to the ocean. but that will all change tomorrow when our high temperatures are about 30 degrees colder than they were today. but mild weather lovers got outside while they could. >> i like being outside. so for me if it's not snowing, not raining, not icy, i'm out walking, going places, doing things. this is tremendous. >> around high tide this morning, an nbc 10 viewer captured cell phone video of tidal street flooding in mrargate. now, here is a live look at the blue cross river rink in pens

landing, a perfect night for a spin around the ice. let's check in with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist brittney shipp. brittn brittney, the wild weather will be continuing because we'll see a cold blast? >> that's right. we started off with chilly conditions and rain and a warm front was involved with the rain. it moved our temperatures all the way to 65 degrees, 25 degrees above our average, a our temperatures will drop almost 30 degrees on monday. we'll see a high of 37. we have an arctic blast on its way. temperatures right now still mild, 58 degrees in philadelphia, 61 in atlantic city, 57 in wildwood, low 50s in wilmington, nice conditions if you want to head out to dinner over the next couple of hours. but we are going to see this arctic air just invade our area as we head into monday. it will start tonight with another cold front. you will see temperatures staying in the 30s tomorrow and that's not it. we'll recover lail bit tuesday. but take a look at what happens on wednesday.

another arctic blast will send our temperatures back down into the 30s. i'm also tracking a slight possibility of a wintry bhix. i'll go over all the details coming up in my seven-day forecast. and turning now to the historic jackpot. nobody won last night's powerball prize of $900 million so the jackpot is now up to annest maian e estimated $1.3 billion. that is right, billion with a "b." for more on the powerball frenzy, let's go live to wynnfield. randy, people are already buying tickets for wednesday's drawing? >> reporter: denise, for the first time ever, the powerball jackpot will have a "b" in front of it. there's $1.3 billion. you can see the numbers pop up, $1.3 billion. that's a record, and that number could rise even more. already enticining customers he at the corner store to give it another shot, even though a lot

of them everybody technically lost last night. we are still days away from the jackpot drawing on wednesday, but people were out buying tickets again. since nobody won last night, that jackpot will roll over for the first time in history, america will have a billion-dollar jackpot winner. there's an explanation. powerball changed its rules this year, adding ten numbers and making it more difficult to hit the actual jackpot. that lets the prize grow even larger. >> the numbers went to 0 to 59, then up to 0 to 69. the odds just went crazy. >> reporter: they added more numbers. >> that's the whole idea. >> if you don't have a ticker, you don't have a chance. >> reporter: now, if you strike gold, you won't technically be a billionaire overnight. the lump sum cash value right now sits at about 800 million. then you've got to factor in state and federal taxes. judging by the lines we saw last

for the investigators, harry hairston. new information now for the recapture of drug lord joaquin el chapo guzman. a law enforcement official says his secret interview with sean penn helped authorities track him down. here is a picture of the two together. penn interviewed guzman for "rolling stone" magazine. a mexican official says that meeting led authorities to guzman last october. but they aborted their raid at that time because he was with two women and a child. well, getting a closer look at the tunnel network where guzman was recaptured friday after six months on the run, mexican media broadcast pictures of parts of the tunnel network. in 2014, guzman evaded capture by fleeing through a network of interconnected tunnels in the drainage system under the asena low wa state capital. >> ff's go time for some of the biggest names in hollywood. the 73rd annual golden globe awards gets under way in just a few hours in california.

the trial begins tomorrow for the driver of the police van in which prosecutors say freddie gray suffered his deadly neck injury. officer caesar goodson jr. is charged with second degree murder. prosecutors say he failed to properly strap gray into the van and ignored his pleas for help. goodson prided not guilty. with just more than three weeks to go until the iowa cautions, the new nbc/"wall street journal" maris poll shows democrats hillary clinton and bernie sanders in a tight race and ted cruz gaining on donald trump. jennifer johnson has our story.

>> reporter: democrats hillary clinton and bernie sanders are locked in tight races in both iowa and new hampshire. according to a new nbc news/"wall street journal"/maris poll. in iowa clinton leads. while in new hampshire the vermont senator is ahead. clinton is still attacking sanders for voted for an nra-supported bill a decade ago giving legal protection to gun manufacturers. >> senator sanders voted with them and through this morning has been unwilling to join the president and me in saying that this should be repealed. >> reporter: sanders says now he's willing to take another look. >> when gun manufacturers, for example, are selling guns into an area and know that those guns are going into the hands of criminals, absolutely those gun manufacturers should be held accountable. >> reporter: clinton is dismissing donald trump's latest family attacks.

trump released pictures of former president bill clinton and monica lewinsky but he's still going after the couple. >> she's married to an abuser, a woman claimed rape and all sorts of things. horrible things rnchtsz in this new poll, ted cruz leads trump by four points in iowa. but trump is way ahead of the rest of the pack in new hampshire. >> trump also took a few shots at president obama's upcoming state of the union address this tuesday, saying in his opinion things are a mess with isis on the rise and obamacare failing. jennifer johnson, nbc news, washington. new jersey governor chris christie will take a short break for campaigning for president to give his state of the state address. tuesday's speech comes at a time when his public support at home it at an all-time low while he gained ground in new hampshire. >> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp.

good evening. we've seen some wild weather over the past 24 hours, started off with heavy rain. now most of the rain is gone. we also saw temperatures in the mid-60s today. now we're tracking just a few spotty showers and an arctic blast which will send our temperatures down to the 30s tomorrow, even the possibility of a wintry mix by tuesday. right now, we're seeing light rain at the philadelphia international airport. light rain coming down, temperatures at 58 degrees, still breezy and windy, wind speeds at about 15 miles per hour. clear visibility, humidity at 62%. temperaturewise across the rest of the region, we're still nice and mild. we're at 58 degrees in philadelphia, 52 in wilmington, 59 in dover and 57 degrees in wildwood. temperatures in atlantic city in the low 60s still. so if you kpt compare that to this time yesterday, we're 10 in allen town, 7 in philadelphia and 9 in atlantic city. this will change dramatically heading into tomorrow. so, as we push into the rest of

today, you'll notice the green there. that's mild air over philadelphia. take a look at what happens. we're not even expecting cold air. instead, arctic air will settle in monday. that's the first arctic blast that moves in. tuesday our temperatures are back to the 40s but a second arctic blast moves in on wednesday. that's going to drop our temperatures right back down to the 30s. so after that, our temperatures will be right around average. but we are really watching those two days, monday and wednesday. future wind gusts show that we expect gust conditions for tonight, heading into tomorrow because a cold front will move back in and bring us that arctic air for the rest of tonight into tomorrow. so because so many changes are happening, we are going to see windy conditions. also a radar shot shows a few more scattered showers we're dealing with. if we zoom you into our neighborhood forecast, it shows that mt. laurel to gloucester, glassboro all seeing moderate downpours, same thing for norristown here. we are still dealing with a few spotty showers, isolated depending on where you are.

most of this is tracking to the northeast, wrapping around the system as it continues to pull away from us. so we'll see a few more spotty hours for the effort of tonight. we stay dry monday, tuesday we're already tracking the possibility of a wintry mix. this will be short-lived and our temperatures because they'll recover from the arctic blast will be in the 40s. expecting more of a wintry mix more than snow, but we'll key updated you with what we expect to see by tuesday. closer look at our temperatures for tonight, we drop down quickly into the low 40s by 9:00 p.m. by the time you wake up tomorrow as you're commuting, getting the kids ready for school, 8:00 a.m. temperatures in the 20s and also in the low 30s. below freezing as you commute to work. even by lunchtime, still in the low 30s. it's going to be very cold, a big difference in what we saw today. then by tuesday, it will be a cold start but temperatures recover. highs around the region tomorrow suby and cold 37 in philadelphia third 5 in atlantic city. tonight a few showers, cold dropping down to 28 for philadelphia, 26 for suburbs
