nbc 10 breaking news. breaking news in south philadelphia, a store owner shot killed and a man who tried to rob his shop. a second man is in custody. a third is on the loose. schools in the area were put on lockdown. >> reporter: vai, this lockdown has been lifted but police are still actively looking for one other person here, this all happened between 8:30 and 9:00 this morning inside miss jessie's stop n shop. three men came in tried to rob the place, he shot one of those would-be robbers, we're told, in the head. another man took off. it's possible that individual could be injured and a third person has been arrested by

investigators. right now, you see a number of police officers still on the scene here as they take a look at evidence in this case. they're awaiting on a search warrant so they can get a closer inside the store. the atf is also assisting the philadelphia police here. no identity on the man who was shot, the man in custody or that individual they're looking for. police are telling us at this point there is still one suspect on the loose here in south philadelphia. that's the very latest. good morning. i'm vai sikahema. the music world is mourning the loss david bowie. he died after an 18-month cancer battle. the british star was a true original. >> ♪ >> reporter: david bowie was a rock music icon for more than 40 years, his manager confirmed the singer's passing sunday following an 18-month battle

detectives deem there are no threats. here's a copy of the police report on that tip, it says the man seen in this surveillance video trying to kill jessie hartnett thursday night is part of a larger group, whose members are more radical. the threat to philadelphia police is not over, even though the shooter is in custody. this morning, commissioner ross said he's thankful that the tip ster came forward. they still have to confirm that the information is valid. until then, officers will go on patrols in pairs. >> quite concern. we're going to take every precaution necessary. there might not be anything to that but we're not going to take any chances with that. >> reporter: i'm working on a story on jessie hart flet's condition and his recovery over the weekend and why fellow police officers say they're concerned about his long-term recovery.

4:00, a crews shut down traffic to repair that main. speaking of traffic time now for a check of the road with jessica boyington. >> major roads are doing okay for the much part. first, lower merion and west lancaster avenue and also horse sham. look at schulykill road. look at that four-minute drive. from our south jersey bureaus, a fire destroyed a vacant warehouse last night. on federal and 17 streets. firefighters quickly got the fire under control. no one was hurt.

charges may be upgraded for the atlantic county mother to smothered her baby who was high on drugs. they charged the mother with child endangerment. she was under the influence when she rolled over on to her 8-month-old. the baby died friday at the hospital. and former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey starts a new job today, ramsey is now a public safety counsel sul about for the wilmington police department. the announcement was made this morning. ramsey served as co-chair of president obama's task force on 21st century policing. and pennsylvania lawmakers head back to work today on a budget the house meets later today to vote on funding for some of the state's universities. the budget stalemate is now in

where an inch and a half of snow in toledo is news. we're getting cold air over the great lakes producing lake-effect snows for a change. we do have that arctic blast that has come in and affected our area. we may be seeing our first flakes of snow during the day tomorrow and tomorrow evening and then it gets even colder as cold as it is today, it's going to feel a whole lot colder by wednesday and flags still blowing fairly hard not quite as gusty as yesterday. 32 degrees, now, the wind 21 miles an hour. feels like 20. and it's 30 degrees colder than it was at this time yesterday. we got up to 65 degrees. that's the record. after 54 on saturday. about 36 today and then 44 tomorrow. before going back down on wednesday.

the current temperature is 28 in lancaster. 29 in reading and allentown. 30 in trenton and mt. holly and of course, there's wind making it feel even colder, it feels like it's still in the teens from lancaster, reading, allentown, reading. it's not going to go up a whole lot during the afternoon. nothing on the radar right now. skies pretty clear, but we do have these lake-effect snows, you can see the wind direction based on where these snow bands are showing up. right now, it's more of a west wind, when we get a northwest wind that's when some of that moisture can be affecting us at least indirectly. by this afternoon, not warming up a whole lot, is it? still basically clear. temperatures down into the 20s this evening and later tonight, some places get pretty close to being in the teens, but the atmosphere's trying to warm up

here, and so it's not going to get as cold tonight as you might think. tomorrow, look at the temperature going up to 41 here, in philadelphia, by noontime, 37 in allentown. this system tomorrow, with some snow showers, it's above freezing. and during the day, especially, the snow would tend to melt on the roads unless it's coming down pretty hard. now the poconpoconos, a differe story, it's likely to stick. these are snow showers, not everybody's going to get it. as you can see by later tomorrow afternoon, 6:00 shgs 7:00, a lot of the area seeing at least some snow showers, you can get bursts of snow in kind of a pattern, a little bit of a mix pafarther t the south. temperatures above freezing

yesterday after an 18-month battle with cancer, bowie official social media site announced his passes. bowie's career spanned five decades with hits like "fame," heroes and "let's dance." david live was recorded in 1974 in upper darby. bowie released his last album friday, which was also his birthday. british fans turned a mural of the late rock star into a makeshift memorial. the image of bowie decorated a shop in south london, where the singer was born. mourners left flowers, candles as well as artwork. an update on wounded philadelphia police officer jessie hartnett the five-year veteran was ambushed and shot while sitting in his patrol last

tomorrow, though, 44 and there's that temperature drop, 30-plus degrees and it feels like it's still in the teens in reading and allentown and trenton and northeast philly. we don't have any anything on radar right now. the skies pretty clear across most of the area but we do have lake-effect snows starting to show up with this cold air moving over the warm lakes and the wind direction, you can see the streaks lined up of snow. the lakes, get pounded with snow under these kind of patterns. what about us? we're talking snow showers as we go into the day tomorrow. first of all, this afternoon, temperatures north and west, barely getting to the freezing point and some places not even getting there. but it doesn't drop that much tonight and then as we go tomorrow, take a look at some of
