snow didn't bother this one riding in the stroller. >> quick glimpse. the snow started to stick a little bit on the roads in bucks county. this was the scene along the northeast extension. and here in philadelphia, the snow hasn't arrived yet. we could see a few flakes tonight. >> nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here. >> glenn, our first snowflakes now in the second week of january. >> yeah, already a record. we've gone farther into the season without any flakes than ever before, at least recorded before. we have seen some in the poconos before and got more today. this was skytop lodge at 2:00 in the afternoon, and in just a matter of an hour, hour and a half, it was just enough snow to totally cover the ground, and it's all white. and in some parts of the area that's going to happen in the next couple of hours, as you'll see in a minute. there's the first batch that came through, and many areas
6:01 pm
north and west saw at least some snow, but it was warm, temperatures above freezing. that's what we're watching now. the second band with the cold front itself and the colder air starting to come into berks county already, and just about to get toward the poconos. right outside of reading, near kutztown, not too far from allentown, that could give you a little burst of some snow, you see the darker blue there indicating a little bit heavier. so it gets to easton about 6:45, allentown about 6:30, warminister at 7:30 and philly close to 8:00 at the current speed. so there it is. what's left of it. at 7:00, 8:00 coming through the philadelphia area, again, you can get a little burst of snow, might just last for a few minutes, but then again we haven't seen any of that. then it's gone by 10:00, 11:00, it's offshore. temperatures still way above
6:02 pm
freezing in most of the area, but has dropped below freezing in allentown, dark now, temperatures dropping, so some of this is going to start sticking, at least the side roads. talk more about the hour by hour and how much colder it's going to get with the seven day in just a few minutes. >> glenn, see you then. never one to shy away from covering the elements, doug shimell tracking the snow showers all afternoon. >> joins us from milford township tonight. doug? >> reporter: well, you know, penndot says they believe they have a solution that just debuted this week for people who have no choice but to drive in snow events or snowstorms. penndot has brined, salted or plowed was a guessing game unless you happened to get behind them. but this week penndot started its 511pa.com website and app that tells you where the plow and salt crews have been, where they haven't, and where they are going. >> maybe some snow on that road or ice that hasn't been treated,

6:05 pm
that might have had a reason the family might not have been able to go out that side of the house if they wanted to, but it was quite a dramatic scene here, witnesses told us they saw flames shooting out the front of the house, through the front windows. doesn't look like too much damage when you look at the house from a different angle, but it is significant and at this point we're waiting to get more information, again, the firefighters here live on the scene, they are pulling the hoses back, getting ready to pull out the fire marshals investigation under way and again the mayor of wilmington, the fire chief, they have been here throughout the last half hour or so, and again we're trying to get more information. as soon as we get that information, we'll bring it to you. live in wilmington, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. tonight, a 3-year-old boy's mysterious death is a mystery no more. prosecutors laid out their evidence against brendan creato's father. we now know how the boy died in haddon township in october. the official cause of death,
