this winter in haddon township camden county where we found a man walking his dog? a know squall. >> in the poconos looking like winter has arrived. you can see the snow on the ground there. good news for skiers at camelback mountain resort. >> strong winds snapped a tree in half and is resting on power lines. >> check out the flakes falling in center city just outside city hall. you can see the wind blowing around as well. >> it certainly feels like winter and the biting wind is one of the reasons why. you can see the winds' effect on the flags on top of the airmark building in center city. let's bring in first alert meteorologist sheena parveen for more. sheena? it's getting windy and cold overnight tonight. the snow is gone but the winds have increased. wind gusts 47 miles an hour in philadelphia. 38 miles an hour in millville. the 35 northeast philly. 28 miles an hour wind gusts in allentown so here is what it feels like outside right now

when you factor in that wind. in the poconos it feels like one debris below zero. philadelphia feels like 15 degrees right now. millville feeling 24r50ik 1. we have a wind advisory overnight. winds will be gusting near 50 miles an hour overnight. like i mentioned the snow is gone so we don't have to worry about that. when you step outside tomorrow morning, it's the cold you have to worry about. 7:00 a.m. everyone feeling like single digits, could be feeling like minus three in the poconos. bundle the kids up at the bus stop tomorrow morning. it will feel cold and windy through the afternoon. those numbers and rain into the weekend straight ahead. tragedy in wilmington. a baby and a three-year-old are dead after a fire roared through their home. a police officer and a neighbor tried to save the little girls but it was too late. >> keith jones is live at the scene, understandably, keith, people in the neighborhood having a tough time with this.

>> reporter: this neighborhood is devastated. i talked to the fire chief about 20 minutes ago. he's still looking into the cause of the fire. you can see box spring there is and the degree left behind pulled out of this house, hard to imagine seven kids lived inside but two never made it out alive. neighbors heard the screams and a wounded mother's desperation. >> she was in shock but worried about her kids. she was screaming "my kids, my kids, my kids." >> reporter: neighbor aaron mcmanus says her body was badly burned? >> i ran around the back and opened the back door and crawled in there screaming, trying to scream "anybody in here." but there was so much smoke coming that i couldn't breathe so i ran back out. >> reporter: a police officer ran in. >> i'm holding the door with the cop in there and it was an explosion. >> it was boom.

it sounded like an explosion. >> a piece of glass ripped through my hoodie and jacket and punctured my side. >> reporter: doctors sewed mcmanus up as firefighters rescued the mother and her two-year-old, but two other little girls, a three-year-old and an infant died inside. >> the fire was coming out of all the windows. there was nothing we could do. >> reporter: fire officials investigate why the fire traveled so fast. it's the hearts that are also broke. >> any times you lose a child it's tragic and sad. >> back live now. the fire chief told me the start of this fire. also the 37-year-old mother is in critical but stable condition. the two-year-old girl that was also rescued from the home is also out of the hospital. live in wilmington, keith jones,

nbc 10 news. >> reporter: oversea, officials in iran are olding ten american sailors after two small navy boats entered territorial waters. the two ships were traveling from kuwait to bahrain when u.s. officials say a mechanical problem caused them to drift into iranian waters. they were taken into custody and are being held on farsi island in the persian gulf. reports are the sailors will be released as soon as daybreak. president obama did not mention the sailors during the state of the union. his speech focused on the political climate, urging the country to unite instead of allowing fear and hatred to divide. >> national correspondent steve handlesman reports from washington. >> reporter: it looked like his earlier state of the union speeches but in this last one, president obama admitted no one expects new proposals to pass a congress that's defeated most of his big initiatives. >> fixing a broken immigration

his address in person. he was senator pat toomey's special guest. you recall trooper douglas survived a deadly ambush outside police barracks in september of 2014. corporal brian dixon died in that attack. new jersey governor chris christie took a break from the presidential campaign trail for his annual state-of-the-state address in trenton. one of the major highlights of his speech, the state's economic recovery. he noted the state's six consecutive balanced budgets. private sector job growth and an unemployment rate cut in half during his time in office. his most powerful message was for lawmakers who support a constitutional amendment to guarantee pension payments. >> who are you going to steal the money from in new jersey? now, please don't tell me millionaires. don't further insult the intelligence of people from new jersey. i'm going to give it to them straight. >> reporter: outside protesters gathered to criticize christie's policies and schedule. his bit for the white house has had him outside new jersey a lot

this past year. he spent 261 days outside the state. tonight we know a motive for murder in the death of a three-year-old boy in camden county. >> reporter: prosecutors say dj creato killed his son because he wanted the save his relationship with a teenaged girl. investigators say little brendan died when his brain was deprived of oxygen. >> aundrea cline-thomas joins us live outside dj creato's apartment. we saw two very different sides. >> reporter: tomorrow marks three months since little brendan was found dead. the question is if that three-year-old could walk from his father's foormt a wooded area blocks away or as prosecutors say if the father killed him and left him there. after being tight-lipped, prosecutors finally laid out their case against dj creato, they described him as a jealous boyfriend who killed his three-year-old son in an effort

to save relationship with his 17-year-old girlfriend. >> i don't know if he wandered out or what happened. i don't know where he is. >> reporter: >> reporter: in a 911 call, he says brandon vanished in the wee hours of 130november 13, he was found dead by the cooper river. >> it is muddy and damp down there. brendan's socks were perfectly clean. >> reporter: prosecutors say it was the same place creato frequented, taking a selfie with his girlfriend two days earlier. >> that was impossible. impossible for that child to walk that far. >> reporter: creato's attorney says the evidence presented has been known for months and questions the delay in bringing charges. >> it's a weak circumstantial case. >> reporter: after multiple autopsies, the cause of death had been deemed homicidal violence but the specific manner is still unknown. >> at the beginning they didn't have evidence object this child's murder. they didn't know why he died. now they're saying certain things so you wonder what's true

the republicans in harrisburg were fighting each other over the state budget. that's right. each other. the republican state senate passed a responsible budget that "begins" to fund education but the republican house of representatives has insisted on a budget that fails to fund education and balloons the deficit. call your legislator, tell them to pass a budget that's right for pennsylvania.

the philadelphia association of black journalists held its first meeting of the year in spring garden tonight. newly appointed police commissioner richard ross was on hand for tonight's discussion. the commissioner talked about strengthening ties between police and the communities they serve and he shared his reaction to seeing the video of officer jesse hartnett getting ambushed last week. >> it's one of the stacariest things i've ever seen. it is. i'm not talking about the notion no police officer has been ever ambushed, i'm talking about witnessing it. >> reporter: commissioner ross says officer hartnett's arm was "virtually destroyed" in the attack. he as a long road to recovery physically and psychologically. >> reporter: tonight these protesters chanted officer hartnett's name as they marched through the streets of center city. >> reporter: they rallied to support the injured officer, calling for an end to the violence in the city.

surgery equals one win." devon still first announced in december doctors declared his five-year-old daughter cancer free. leah was first diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in 2014. doctors gave hear 50-50 chance to survive. the little girl and her father won the hearts of people across the country with the hashtag "leah strong" documenting her fight against the disease. devon still posted this advice to other parents going through a similar challenge. he said "no matter how hard it gets, no matter what the doctors tell you, always remain positive, speak victory into existence, give your child's fight with cancer a purpose. no matter how big or small your platform or following is, you will reach that one family that needs to know they're not alone in the fight so they don't give up." they taught us a lot, that family. >> they did. that road probably seemed so long before the chemoand surgeries. >> she's a fighter. >> i bet she can't wait for a lot of snow to make snow angels,

build snowmen, sheena. the snow angels, kids are all looking forward to it, looking forward to sledding, too, but we don't have that kind of snow unless you're in the poconos. there's a live look at blue municipal thain where they are making snow but they had good snowfall today, not a lot but a little fresh powder out there. wind advisory in effect overnight tonight. it's windy, winds gusting near 50 miles an hour. that's the arctic blast moving in tomorrow through the entire day. then we have a little warmup for the weekend that will bring in rain for the area, this is what it feels like outside. poconos feels like minus one. mount pocono feeling very cold. 12 in allentown, 15 in philadelphia. 10 in reading. 15 degrees in wilmington and these numbers will keep going down overnight tonight. the blue line on top is the

actual temperature overnight into early tomorrow. that line on the bottom, the purple line is what you'll feel when you walk outside. so by 7:00, 8:00 tomorrow morning it will be feeling like single digits and chb only from there even though actual highs will be in the 20s, it will feel like the teens and it will stay windy so have the jacket with you all day long. winds gusting from 30 to 50 miles an hour. the wind helped to push out the snow showers so now we're dry. as we go into tomorrow the wind makes you feel colder. this is mostly north and west of philadelphia. not much but we saw close to an inch in parts of montgomery county and gilbertsville. bucks county. furlong saw a half inch. same thing in phoenixville and chester county. allentown saw three quarters of an inch and the poconos saw close to two inches so that's the area we saw today.

take a look at the time lapse video. it started around 2:00. it's sky top lodge. there you see the snow giving a nice coating and eventually we saw this rack up to close to two inches of snow for the poconos so i'm sure the skiers loved it and that's cold enough for fake snow to be made, too. tonight we get windier and stay cold. tomorrow morning look at the temperatures by 7:00, 8:00. single digits through the afternoon. windy and not feeling warmer than the upper teens through most of the area so it will be a cold day tomorrow. tonight those snow showers have come to an end. tomorrow the highs will be in the up 20s but it's going to feel like the teens so that feels-like temperature is what you're watching. we warm up with rain moving in friday night. stay tuned, we'll be right back.
