from consideration for the birds' head coaching position, according to the reports. reports says there was a second interview scheduled today and that did not happen. another report suggests coughlin was hesitant because his entire staff stayed with the giants. moving on, espn reports the eagles are expected to pursue doug pederson. pederson cannot be hired until sunday at the earliest. that's if the chiefs lose to the patriots in the postseason. pederson has been coordinator and was quarterbacks coach here in philly. this news, probably the most shocking of the day, who is without a job no longer, chip kelly. the san francisco 49ers announced they've hired the former eagles coach. in a statement chip thanked jed york for the opportunity and said his immediate focus is building the best coaching staff possible. got all that? good, much more coming up at 5:00 and 6:00 on the eagles coaching search. for now, danny pommells from comcast sportsnet. back to you. >> didn't last long for chip

atlantic city international. a look at the difference from this time yesterday. 19 degrees warmer in philadelphia, 24 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday in atlantic city. obviously not going to be anywhere near as cold at night, even though we're going to see mostly clear skies, not much wind. certainly nothing on radar close by, but there is a storm that we're going to be tracking. it's developing in the gulf of mexico now, and it is going to be bringing rain pretty close to our area, even just a little more than 24 hours from now. timing on that and how it's going to affect the weekend with the seven day in a few minutes. now to new information about last week's ambush attack on a philadelphia police officer. the fbi director now says they are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the shooting. investigators were working off an anonymous tip that said edward archer had several

associates. today director james comey addressed the media about the attack. >> no, philadelphia is not a hot bed for radicalization. the entire united states, with its 300 some million souls contains people who are susceptible because they are unmoored or in transition, either teenagers or people struggling in life. >> nbc 10's lauren mayk is live in center city with more on the investigation and how it's sparking controversy. lauren? >> reporter: well, jacqueline, one thing that's been universal here is praise for officer hartnett and what he did that night, but when it comes to defining his attacker and the attack itself, that's different. fresh from an fbi briefing, senator pat toomey had a clear pronouncement. >> make no mistake about it, this was a terrorist attack. >> reporter: the shooting last week put a 33-year-old police officer in the hospital. the senator said the suspect who claimed it was in the name of islam had been radicalized, but

no details on how. >> radicalization can occur in different ways and i don't know how or under what circumstances this man came to these terrible ideas. >> reporter: defining the attack and the man behind it is prompting caution. >> i'm going to leave it to the security professionals to make definitive determinations about what happened, why it happened. i think it's still pretty early. >> reporter: jim kenney's comments after the shooting drew some criticism in the political world. >> basically what i said was the 200,000 muslims who live in philadelphia are not represented by the actions of mr. archer. that he is a criminal, and they are not criminals. >> reporter: i asked him today about the controversy that's even attracted the attention of presidential candidate marco rubio. >> do you feel your comments were disinterpreted? >> misinterpreted by republicans, yeah, easy for them to do. they misinterpret a lot of

things. the fbi has not concluded and the philadelphia police have not concluded this is an act of terrorism. they are investigating it as it could be, but our police know more than rush limbaugh. >> reporter: mayor kenney, by the way, is a democrat. the fbi director here in town this afternoon, he reiterated today that they are investigating this as an act of terror. and officer hartnett, he is still in the hospital. and coming up at 5:00, we'll have more on his condition. live in center city, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. nbc 10 investigative reporter harry hairston will have more on local ties to terrorism coming up at 4:30. meantime, the community came together today to honor the officer injured in last week's attack. a mass in officer hartnett's honor was held in drexel hill this morning. hartnett graduated in 2001. family and friends said a final good-bye today to a

pregnant mother and her young son who died trying to escape from a house fire. dozens gathered to remember elizabeth perez and nathaniel richardson. last friday morning perez went back into her burning hem to try to rescue 2-year-old na than yan. firefighters found the mother with him inside her arms outside a bedroom. new information about a chester county pastor accused of raping and impregnating a teenaged girl. jacob malone is currently in ecuador. he was scheduled to board a plane back to the states to surrender this morning, but police say he cancelled that flight. malone is now scheduled to return over the weekend. two philadelphia police officers are recovering from a hit-and-run crash that landed the other driver under arrest. investigators believe the driver was under the influence when he ran a red light, slammed into the police cruiser, then jumped out of his car and ran off. the two officers chased him down and then arrested him. the officers had minor injuries,

but they are expected to be okay. police want you to look at a new video here of a pair of purse thieves in center city. see them come up behind a woman there on south 13th street tuesday night. the one man grabs her purse off her shoulder, then they both run away. in decision 2016 coverage, a smaller task of republican presidential candidates returns to the debate stage tonight in south carolina. last minute reparations are under way, it is the first gop debate of 2016 and one of the last chances for the candidates to spay voters before february 1st for those iowa caucuses. fox business network is hosting the event, which will focus on economic, domestic, and international policy issues. here are the seven candidates, john kasich, chris christie, marco rubio, donald trump, ted cruz, ben carson, and jeb bush. carly fiorina, mike huckabee, and rick santorum will

participate in the undercard debate. also not on the main stage, senator rand paul, who's vowed to boycott the event. new video shows the moment a bomb exploded near a starbuck's cafe in jakarta and isis is claiming responsibility for the attack. at least two people and five of the attackers were killed. a second attack happened nearby at a traffic police booth. it's the first time isis has targeted the world's largest muslim nation. tributes are pouring in for british film icon alan rickman. >> i haven't stolen anything. >> don't lie to me. >> many remember alan rickman as professor snape in the harry potter films. his family announced the actor died after a battle with cancer. he was 69 years old and classically trained at the prestigious royal academy of dramatic arts. he was also known for his roles in galaxy quest, die hard, and love actually. rickman was 69 years old.

pennsylvania governor tom wolf says he's hoping to finish a budget deal for this fiscal year before he turns in a spending plan for next year. wolf says today he thinks it's possible to have a budget before the april 26th primary election. you'll remember wolf signed off on emergency funding for schools across the state while lawmakers continue to negotiate a full budget. he's scheduled to deliver his next proposal february 9th. from our south jersey bureau this afternoon, donald norcross is leading an effort to raise the minimum wage. in blackwood the congressman announced his initiative for what he calls a living wage of $15 an hour. a south jersey nurse's aide shared her struggle. >> ask yourself, can you survive off $200 a month with you and a child? i can't. >> norcross says a $15 wage will bring hard working people out of

poverty. camden's pouerto rican community has a new place to celebrate its heritage. the city's puerto rican arts center opened today. over 30% of the population is of puerto rican descent. for those of us with a sweet tooth, this is a wonderful time of the year. >> i've already had to try a few samples in the newsroom. >> what's your favorite? >> i felt i needed to, to research for the story. >> yes. it is girl scout cookie season. girls getting things rolling in center city this morning. girl scouts have been selling cookies to raise funds since 1917. these days up to 28 varieties of cookies are offered, so you have plenty of choices. >> everyone wins. we're here supporting all the girl scouts across the nine-county footprint, so we're here supporting all the girls and their goals.

>> you'll have plenty of time to get your hands on them, cookie season runs through march 13th. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> quite a change in the weather from yesterday when it was bitter cold and wind chills in the single digits in the morning. tomorrow temperatures are going to be in the 50s across much of the area. we are tracking some rain. of course, by the time the next storm gets up here it's going to be warm enough for rain, but then an arctic blast is going to be coming by the mlk holiday on monday. we've got lots of sunshine out there right now, and that's certainly helped push the temperature up. 47 degrees now, the winds southwest at 17 miles an hour, and 19 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. the high was 29. we're 47 now, we're going into the 50s tomorrow, and maybe close to 50 on saturday, as

well. then we start going down again, and we may be seeing some 29s next week, as well. 38 degrees in allentown, one of the cool spots. 27 in mount pocono, but so much warmer elsewhere. 50 in dover, 52 in atlantic city international. there's the west to southwest wind bringing in warmer air and it's a significant wind, 10 to 20 miles an hour. that will be dying down overnight tonight. mostly clear skies. we have some clouds up towards the poconos. this is the area to watch, storm brewing right along the gulf coast. it's a classic type of storm that you get in the strong el nino years and what happens in the el nino years, the track is ideal for a winter storm, but our question is, where's the cold air? we don't have the cold air, so as this comes up, doesn't matter what the track is if the cold air isn't there. and the rain comes in tomorrow

night, it's moving fast, which is helpful, because by saturday morning, it's already getting out of here. so if you sleep late enough on saturday morning, you won't see any rain over the weekend. then the colder air comes in as we head toward sunday. how much rain? what areas are going to get hit the hardest? models tend to agree the heaviest amounts of rain are going to be in delaware and south jersey and lowering amounts as you go away from the coastline. other models have even less rain for some of these northern and western areas, but this is mostly on friday night, a lot of it, when a lot of people are sleeping. partly cloudy, not as cold tonight, 34 for the low in philadelphia, 26 north and west. it's not very cold for this time of the year. this certainly isn't. the clouds thickening up. it's going to be unseasonably

mild. if we get enough sunshine, it will be even warmer than this. rain comes in at night, not a whole lot of wind during the day. seven day forecast around 50 on saturday, any rain ends early in the day, the winds pick up in the afternoon, but it doesn't really get cold until sunday. we could see some snow flurries or a couple snow showers by sunday night as the weak system passes through. arctic cold front, because that sets us up for the arctic blast coming in along with mlk day. then another day just as cold on tuesday and pretty chilly week out there. well, from boy band to jail cell. a former pop star now facing some trouble. >> next, the back street boy just arrested for a bar fight. plus, the stream of success continues for sly stallone and his imaginary friend rocky balboa. plus, it began as a robbery

this is nbc 10 news. >> backstreet boy nick carter is facing a criminal charge for allegedly assaulting someone inside a florida bar. police arrested the boy band member in key west last night. tmz is reporting he was involved in some kind of scuffle. nick carter is facing one misdemeanor count of battery. well, fresh off his big win at the golden globes on sunday, sylvester stallone is looking to take home an even bigger prize at this year's academy awards. >> sylvester stallone in "creed."

[ applause ] >> stallone was nominated for best supporting actor for his reprised role as rocky balboa. the announcement drew the most reaction from the crowd. this is stallone's third oscar nomination for the "rocky" franchise, but nearly four decades since his last run, he was nominated for best actor and best screenplay in 1977 for the original rocky, which went on to win best picture of that year. maybe you remember that. let's take a look at some of the other nominees for this year's best picture, "the revenant," he was nominated for best actor. the survival movie led the way with 12 nominations. all right. right along behind the wilderness saga "mad max: fury road," that grabbed ten nominations. here's a look at the other best picture nominees and how they rank. first of all, "brooklyn" right here, the 1950s story of an irish immigrant, it has three

"the big short" about the wall street and credit meltdown, that has five nominations. also "spotlight," the true story of how the boston globe uncovered the catholic church sex abuse scandal also has five nominations. this is nbc 10 news. >> today fbi director james comey is in philadelphia and he reveals new information about the attack on a police officer last week. >> comey says the fbi is not looking for any other suspects in connection with the case. nbc 10 investigative reporter harry hairston was there with comey today. harry is joining us with more. a lot of questions, harry. >> that's right, a lot of questions. i left the news conference with james comey. for more than 20 minutes he fielded questions about terrorism. i had specific questions about last week's attack on a philadelphia police officer. comey says the attack on officer jesse hartnett was, in fact, terrorism. comey tells me the fbi determines that just hours after the shooting.

but comey says he believes the suspect, edward archer, acted alone and is not part of any organized group. reports that you are looking for three other people, are those completely false? >> yeah, i'm not saying we're looking for three other people, so at this point i'd say that is false, we're not looking for three other people. we're doing a lot of investigating. there was reporting i saw in the media the last couple days. i think that was a garble of some sort that there were others, coconspirators, we're not seeking anybody. that said, we're going to work hard to understand this guy's entire life. >> reporter: comey tells us isis has made it clear that they are out to kill police officers. i also asked him if the fbi are questioning the suspect. he says not at this time, because the suspect has lawyered up. reporting live in center city, harry hairston for the nbc 10 news investigators. now to the stories making

atlantic city international. 47 degrees in philadelphia. so the temperatures have gone from way below average to well above average in just one day. 19 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. some places more than 20 degrees warmer. again, we still have more of a warming trend to go. few clouds around, especially up toward the poconos. this is where the moisture is building up along the gulf coast. nor'easter is going to develop there and move up very rapidly. of course, not rapidly enough to affect us tonight. we have mostly clear skies, but it's not that cold. it's not going to cool off very much with that southwest wind, so temperatures by 10:00 are going to be fairly tolerable. talk more about not only the timing of that rain that's coming, but also another arctic blast with the seven day in just a few minutes. now for a robbery that didn't go exactly as planned for a thief in indiana. take a look here, the robber is

at the top of your screen. if you look closely you can see he's pointing a gun at the clerk, but the clerk is pointing a finger and yelling at him. eventually the man walks out with just a couple bucks. breaking news here from sky force 10 live in trenton. crews are on the scene of a fire here at this apartment building. there you see the fire trucks on the ground as sky force 10 pulls out for us, hard to make out exactly where the building is, but this is an apartment building for seniors, we're told, building on south broad street. it is, in fact, being evacuated. we're told the fire is on the sixth floor. there's no word on injuries, but we will continue to monitor this story for you. more breaking news now from the entertainment world. celine deon's husband has died after a long battle with cancer. rene angelil died at the

this is nbc 10 news. >> you may need to change your travel plans because of a quickly spreading virus in some latin american countries. it's called zika and the virus is not spread from person to person, but rather from a mosquito bite. here's what's different and potentially dangerous. women who had the virus while pregnant were more likely to give birth to babies with severe brain damage and abnormally small heads. >> often leading to death on the

part of the baby soon after birth or a serious difficulty of brain function and cognitive function. >> the virus has prompted the u.s. government to develop a travel warning to places like brazil and the caribbean. here's what you should look for if you have traveled to those countries recently, the symptoms begin three to seven days after the person is bitten by a infected mosquito. a popular lip balm is facing a class action lawsuit that claims the product can cause a painful reaction. according to the woman who filed the suit, her lip balm caused blisters and a rash around her mouth. the woman posted several pictures on the eos facebook page allegedly showing irritation caused by the balm. she says her rash lasted for about ten days. eos says the lawsuit is without merit. it tweeted a statement saying in part, "our products are safe to use, made with the highest

quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set by our industry." so what should you look for when you buy lip balm? dermatologists recommend paraben free moisturizers, so that's what you should look for. health warning labels could change the way parents shop at the grocery store. the labels warn about obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. researchers found parents were less likely to buy sugar sweetened beverages that carry the labels. experts say labels would be most effective on flavored waters and sports drinks, but many parents believe those are healthy options. aldi is getting rid of candy in the checkout aisle and will replace it with items like trail mix, granola bars, and dry fruit. it's moving the candy to another part of the store. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz.

>> well, we were in a bitter chill yesterday and all of a sudden it's feeling like spring out there. and tomorrow we're going to be in the 50s, going to feel even more like spring, especially if we get sunshine, higher into the 50s. we are tracking rain, though, by the time the next storm gets here. obviously, it will be warm enough for rain. then the arctic blast comes in after that storm for part of the mlk holiday. you can see that we've had a lot of sunshine today. that's pushed the temperature well up there, 47 degrees, wind out of the southwest pushing warmer air in here, and it's 19 degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday. one of the cool spots is allentown at 38 degrees. clouds there, 41 in trenton, 42 in reading, but it really warms up as you head farther south. 49 degrees in millville, 52 in atlantic city. and all of those numbers are going to be higher tomorrow.

remember yesterday we were only 29 degrees and we have wind chills in the single digits in the morning. remember that? that was just yesterday. 47 today. 53 tomorrow, and then near 50 on saturday. there's that west to southwest wind picking up. ten to 20 miles an hour, there's a lot warmer air back to our west. temperatures in the 60s in the ohio valley. so we're dry for now, we have clouds in the lehigh valley and poconos. not producing any kind of precipitation. plenty of it right along the gulf coast. this is going to develop into a nor'easter. nice little intense storm, but it's going to be moving really fast. and that, of course, is going to help us in a couple of ways. we're not going to have strong winds for hour after hour at the shore, and the rain's going to move out pretty fast. so milder tomorrow, here comes the rain as we go toward the evening, so during the daytime tomorrow, no rain, tomorrow

night here it comes. so if you're headed out, it's going to be fairly heavy, especially towards the shore, but by saturday morning it's just about over already. and so if you sleep late enough you'll miss it. and here we go with the colder air coming in on sunday, and into monday, and we're talking about arctic winds around here on monday. here we go. we've got the arctic air on the map. not that far away. and it is coming down as we go into sunday and especially on monday. so for the rest of the night tonight, partly cloudy, not as cold as last night. 34 for the low in philadelphia. 26 north and west. then during the day tomorrow, even warmer than today. question of how much warmer, because if the clouds hold off, temperatures can get into the mid 50s.

the fbi director now says they are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the shooting and in is no indication edward archer was part of an organized terror cell. right now at 5:00, nbc 10's lauren mayk joins us live at police headquarters. lauren, what's the latest on the investigation? >> reporter: the fbi director today said they are still looking to understand motives, still investigating edward archer's travel, and they are investigating this as a terrorist attack. however, i heard from other federal and local officials today and not everyone is putting a label on it. the attack left a police officer with three bullet wounds as he fired back. >> i just think his actions that night were nothing short of heroic. >> reporter: senator pat toomey didn't mince words. >> make no mistake about it, this was a terrorist attack. >> reporter: as for the suspect -- >> what we know is he has declared his allegiance to
