patriots in the playoffs. pederson has been offensive coordinate forfor the chiefs three seasons, before that quarterbacks coach here in philadelphia. this news comes the same day the eagles former coach gets another job. much more on all this breaking news and chip kelly's new stomping grounds coming up in sports. for now, danny pommells for comcast sportsnet. back to you. >> thank you. our other top story at 6:00 tonight, new details on the fbi terror investigation into the shooting of a philadelphia police officer. good evening everyone, i'm jim rosenfield. >> and i'm jacqueline london. late this afternoon we learned there is no organized cell and the fbi is not looking for any other suspects. the officer was ambushed one week ago. harry hairston joins us live from center city. >> harry, what did you learn from the head of the fbi today? >> reporter: fbi director james comey came here as part of a tour across the nation visiting all of the fbi offices. this is the second time he came here. now during his first news

conference here i covered that, but this is different. this time he talked about terrorism in philadelphia. within moments of today's news conference, james comey erased any doubt about how to characterize last week's attempted murder of philadelphia police officer jesse hartnett. >> we at the fbi level, through our joint terrorism task force, are investigating that attack as a terrorist attack. >> reporter: two days after the shooting, police got a tip the suspect may be part of a terrorist group. director comey tells us there's no evidence of that. >> we see no indication he was part of an organized cell of any sort and no indication that there is any follow-on plot connected to that. >> reporter: comey says he's not sure how the suspect was radicalized. archer is the second person arrested in less than a year in connection with terrorism. federal agents arrested keona thomas last april. director comey tells us there is no connection between archer and

thomas. >> philadelphia is not a hot bed for radicalization. >> reporter: earlier today director comey did visit the officer, officer hartnett, but he declined to give any details about that private moment. reporting live in center city, harry hairston, nbc 10 news. pennsylvania senators bob casey and pat toomey were briefed by the fbi on the shooting. toomey called the attack a terrorist attack, but not everyone is willing to label that at this point. >> radicalization could occur in many ways. i don't know how or under what circumstances this man came to these terrible ideas. >> the fbi has not concluded and the philadelphia police have not concluded this is an act of terrorism. they are investigating it as it could be. >> we also got an update today on the officer's condition. we're told he's slowly walking around the hospital. his third surgery is set for tomorrow. stay with nbc 10 and nbc10.com as we continue to follow the

officer's condition, as well as the legal process as it plays out against the suspect. not a bad night to head out. it's not terribly cold. >> not too awful. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is joining us now with his first alert forecast. glenn? >> it's a lot warmer than it was 24 hours ago, and 24 hours before that. it's been a really nice mild day, and the temperature got all the way up to 47 degrees. it's 45 right now. it's dropped north and west because of the clear skies and the relatively light winds there, so it is cooling off and will be going down into the 20s there, but it's 52 degrees in atlantic city international right now. 26 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. philadelphia's 19 degrees warmer. we don't have anything on radar right now close by, but farther to the south, got a storm

brewing along the gulf coast. that is going to be impacting our weather. not much more than 24 hours from now, but for tonight we are dry. the temperature not dropping too much in the city, and it's going to be even warmer tomorrow. we do have that rain coming in and also another arctic blast. that's all in the seven day coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn. almost $1.6 billion split three ways, and tonight we're still waiting for all three winners to come forward. >> 7-eleven store in southern california turned into a big party. the owner of the 7-eleven in chino hills said he didn't know his store sold one of the winning tickets until he saw it on tv. he headed back to work and found crowds of people cheering in the parking lot. sounds like they were cheering "chino hills." his store will get $1 million for selling the ticket. munford, tennessee, chino hills,

california, and melbourne beach, florida. all three states don't require state income tax on the winnings, so another huge bonus for them. 81 people across the country won at least $1 million, including three from our area. stores in lehigh county, chester county, and burlington county sold lucky tickets. deanna durante joins us live from the winning store. >> all the money spent on powerball is a big help for people in pennsylvania. >> reporter: it is. you know, we may think of the tickets because we didn't win anything as worthless, but there are a group of people who find them pretty valuable. >> keep playing, maybe they'll win. >> reporter: even if you don't win, people like betty mccray are certainly glad you play. she takes advantage of three senior centers in philadelphia. she's not alone. >> been here ten years. ballroom, line dancing, zumba.

>> reporter: some in the crowd say zumba classes are a new favorite. those who run the senior center say your worthless lottery tickets are paying for thousands more. the lottery says 29 cents from each ticket funds senior programs in the state and in 2013 the pennsylvania lottery funded $3.8 billion to senior programs. statewide it paid for 8.2 million meals for seniors and gave property tax and rent rebates and paid for long-term care for seniors who can't afford it. to those who lost out on this week's major jackpot -- >> i would never tell people to take their salaries and spend it on the lottery. that would be foolish, but what they do does help us, it does help us. and we need it, so many people need it. >> reporter: back here in chester county, a lot of people coming into this store wondering who bought the ticket. so far they haven't surfaced here. locally people are hoping they

do so they can congratulate them. reporting live, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. some relief maybe for commuters who take the schuylkill expressway. the highway is clogged by one of the worst bottlenecks in the country according to a recent traffic study. doesn't seem to matter if you're driving i-76 in the morning or evening, traffic will get you almost every time. >> new at 6:00, our partners report penndot plans to open the shoulder lanes during peak times. drivers will be able to drive on all three lanes, including the shoulder. penndot is in the final phase of a traffic study focusing on route 202 and route 1 on 76. there's talk about adding new traffic signs along the curve that say when the next train arrives in case you don't want to sit in traffic and get off instead and take the train. the change in plans here, casinos in atlantic city would have only 60 days to bid for one of the two casino licenses in north jersey. state lawmakers made the adjustment to the bill this afternoon.

it was six months under the previous version. if casinos don't apply, licenses will be open to anyone. voters will get to decide on casino expansion coming up in november. new information about a pair of kidnappings in center city. a grand jury charged nathaniel rodriguez with the crime after police say he forced a doctor into her car inside a center city parking garage, then drove to a gas station, where security video shows them unsuccessfully trying to get money from an atm. investigators say he's responsible for a similar crime that happened a few days earlier. sky pforce 10 over breaking news for us over the scene of a two-car accident on the white horse pike in egg harbor city. one of the vehicles went off the road and into the woods. and we understand multiple people are hurt here, at least one person is trapped in one of the vehicles. there you see one of them under that sign there. we're going to follow this

story, bring you any new information as soon as we get it. a south jersey teenager missing for months is found dead in the woods. police are investigating 19-year-old minerva's death. she was last seen in october. workers found her body in a wooded area in salem county on monday. detectives are looking into whether her death is suspicious. to decision 2016, republicans vying for the white house are getting ready to make their case before the first votes are counted in iowa. seven presidential candidates will share a stage tonight. we'll have a complete wrap-up of that debate coming up on nbc 10 news at 11:00. meantime, the democrats face off for the final time before the iowa and new hampshire caucuses. that's this sunday night on nbc. hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley qualify to

square off on the stage 9:00 in charleston, south carolina. a state senator helping to craft pennsylvania's laws for the past two decades is now retiring. senator shirley kitchen announced her retirement today. kitchen was the second african-american woman to be elected to the state senate back in 1996. she won four more consecutive terms. kitchen is the head of the philadelphia senate delegation and the chairwoman on public health and welfare. an fbi investigation led to a guilty plea for allentown's former city comptroller. prosecutors say she and others were involved in a bribery and kick back scheme, allegedly demanding campaign contributions from vendors in exchange for city business. that official hasn't been named. covalue is the first official charged. next at 6:00, legal trouble for local travel agents. tonight the nbc 10 investigators

been made public. >> reporter: when we visited the company today, its owner insisted he'd personally refunded 50% of most customers' lost money, but after agreeing to do an interview -- >> sorry, my lawyer said no comments at this time. >> reporter: you can't say anything? he changed his mind, saying the court case will speak for itself. at least one of his alleged victims agreed, still angered over the loss of nearly two months' salary and irreplaceable time with family. >> until we can find the best outcome of it. >> we want the word to get out there's a new sheriff in town that we will not tolerate these types of scams any longer. >> the affiliated companies were never registered with the state as required. the a.g.'s office is asking for $1,000 fines for each violation of the consumer protection law and $3,000 fines for every

degrees, high clouds moving in. winds southwest at 9 miles an hour, 19 degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday. cooling off a little bit, pottstown down to 34, 38 in reading, 37 in trenton, but still 42 in bensalem and westchester, 45 in philadelphia and in wilmington. 52 degrees in atlantic city. that's pretty amazing. a lot of these places are going to get into the 50s during the day tomorrow. and yesterday's high, only 29, with strong winds. today's high officially 47. tomorrow it will get into the 50s if we get a decent amount of sunshine, warmer than that. then on saturday, near 50 degrees. then it starts going back down. the wind coming out of the southwest and west, it's really calming down now. that's why the temperature is dropping in some of those suburban areas, but the clear skies and the light winds.

but the air mass as a whole, still pretty mild, and there's the storm developing along the gulf coast, really has intensified over the last 24 hours, and it's going to be a real quick mover. it's going to be a nor'easter, wind is going to be coming from the northeast, even though the storm is moving to the northeast. that's how it got its name, and there's going to be a lot of moisture coming in off the atlantic. by 7:00 tomorrow, the rain is getting close. maybe not quite there by 7:00, but in the evening it's going to be there. and then by saturday morning, that's about the end of it. got the strong onshore winds, northeast wind, and then it's gone. so it doesn't get a chance to build up any kind of flood threat and wevúz3lso get to dry out early on saturday. partly cloudy, not as cold tonight, 34 for the low in philadelphia, 26 north and west. tomorrow the clouds will be thickening during the day, it's going to be quite mild. the rain coming in at night,
