4:01 pm
interesting. the woman backed out of her house over there, backed into that garage door there, back around this huge traffic circle and take a look, came all the way over here, around that fire hydrant, through the grass and ended up with her toyota inside that kitchen wall. >> i heard what i thought was a door slamming. >> reporter: everyone in the cul-de-sac of this 55 and over hershey-run neighborhood heard it. >> i was sitting in the lounge chair and heard a large bang. >> reporter: nobody could believe it, their neighbor backed her car across the traffic circle and into a garage and then went forward another 60 yards on to the graz and through the wall of her neighbor betty's kitchen. the 73 year old was eating breakfast and pinned under a tire that spun. vicki was able to get out of the car. >> i seen my neighbor limping across the graz and when i ran over to her, i was calling 911 at the same time. then she collapsed. she kept saying it got away from me, got away from me. that's all she was saying.

nearly 400 points, 500 earlier in the session in the dow jones industrial average. now it is a big drop and drop we've seen all year long. in fact, year to date the dow is down 8%, nasdaq is down 10%. that, of course, very heavily weighted to a lot of technology companies, but you have to keep in mind that we have seen this before, and i know there are many folks out there that are concerned about their retirement accounts and what this means for my 401(k) and should i take all my money out now and put it under my mattress, probably not, because in the stock market this is money you should not need to get your hands on for at least five years or more. so it's likely we're going to see the market come back, definitely over the next five years, but maybe even sooner than that to help you sleep at night. >> yeah, let's hope so, sharon, rough start in 2016. thanks so much, sharon epperson live from cnbc headquarters this afternoon. our coverage of the wall street slump continues at 5:00. we're going to have a financial expert joining us live with advice he would give his clients.

4:18 pm
tonight. it's going to rain for hours, but most of that is going to happen while you're asleep. we've got an arctic blast coming for mlk day on monday and bitter winds are going to accompany that. we're going to be talking about wind chills again. 52 degrees, so pretty mild out there. winds south at seven miles an hour, five degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday. and a couple of days ago it was 29 degrees, got up to 53 today, 52 tomorrow, then dropping to 39 sunday, 29 monday. and remember we're going to have a 20 to 30 mile an hour winds on top of that. so that's going to be quite a change. 36 in mount pocono now. that's the one place that could see a change over to snow during the night. 43 in allentown, 45 in reading and quakertown, doylestown. pottstown is 47, blue bell is 46. northeast philly is 52.

4:20 pm
raining hard, but look at that, some snow in the poconos. some heavy wet snow, according to this computer model, as that nor'easter comes right off the coast. it's almost ideal track for winter storm, just not cold enough for snow. snow lovers really get frustrated with this. then the wind turns into the northwest and then the arctic air starts coming in behind it and, yeah, it's going to be really cold next week. the rain develops, becomes heaviest in delds aaware and exe south jersey. then tomorrow the rain is over by 7:00 a.m., so the day is pretty much dry, it's windy, it's mild. and then on sunday it starts getting colder. we could see some flurries late in the day. there's the arctic chill on monday and tuesday. wednesday and thursday is not a

rain moving in later tonight. >> first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking when that rain will start for us. glenn? >> yeah, parts of the area and southern delaware it's probably going to start by 7:00. it is also going to rain a little way up to the pocono mountains. this is blue mountain, where people are skiing out there now, but it may very well turn over to some heavy wet snow for at least a period of time near the end. so they are going to be in decent shape by tomorrow afternoon and great shape for the next week or more after that. here comes the rain up toward the washington area, of course, going to take a little while before it gets here, but it's a pretty large area. this is a large nor'easter that is moving pretty quickly and that's why the rain is not going to be lasting well into tomorrow, but there's the heaviest of it, looks like it's coming right up the chesapeake towards southern delaware and perhaps cape may as we go through the late night hours. if there's going to be any kind of flooding, that would be the

area. there it is by 8:00, the rain starting into the region. by 10:00 it's raining just about everywhere. there's that small area of changeover to some snow and look at that wet weather. going to be a mild night. not going to stay that way. more on the next arctic blast and when this moves out with the seven day in a few minutes. here are some of the stories making headlines on nbc 10 news at 4:00. police say a driver accidently crashed her car into her neighbor's kitchen. look at this scene, hit a woman inside as she was eating breakfast. nbc 10 at the home as crews cleared that debris. both women are in the hospital, but they are expected to be okay. police cited the driver for reckless driving. sky force 10 over a fire that ripped through four row houses in burlington county, new jersey, just before dawn this morning. four people were burned, including two children. fire officials tell us they don't know what caused the blaze, but they believe it

4:33 pm
area. penndot saying it's reviewing a plan to turn the shoulders of interstate 76 into usable travel lanes during rush hour. the change would impact the stretch of the schuylkill expressway from route 1 all the way to route 202. we first told you about this possibility when the study came to light yesterday. nbc 10's george spencer has been reviewing this proposal all day long. look where he is, live in sky force 10 above it all. george, this would not be an easy change. >> reporter: not an easy change. there are a number of challenges, jim, but the payoff could be significant. right now the schuylkill expressway is just two lanes in both directions here, and sky force 10 really gives us the best view of what happens on a daily basis. congestion like what we see usually in the travel lanes right here leaves open the possibility that this unused shoulder space could actually get more cars through more quickly. driving the curve in midday a rare sight here, moving traffic.
4:34 pm
and now penndot is considering a plan to turn highway shoulders into travel lanes, intended to keep vehicles moving. or at least moving less slowly during peak travel times. >> i like where they are going, but i'm not sure if i'm 100% for that. >> reporter: if implemented the change would impact about 14 miles of the interstate, the four-lane stretch basically between king of prussia and city avenue in both directions, a stretch used by an average 107,000 drivers each day. >> it's a concept that's one of several being examined. >> reporter: gene blum tells us the plan is one of several under review as relatively quick fixes to the ever growing bottleneck, but it would require overcoming significant engineering and environmental challenges. >> you just can't go out right now and lie down the shoulders of the schuylkill expressway. there would have to be
4:35 pm
modifications made to them. >> reporter: the same study is also reviewing more basic changes like variable speed limit signs or other technology to alert drivers of roadway problems ahead. for regulars on 76, alleviating traffic is, obviously, a laudable goal, but many worry about the safety of losing shoulder space to more cars. >> just not enough space, huh? >> not enough space. it's safer for drivers to have a cushion and not be up against a guardrail. >> i think it's going to get jammed up more. >> reporter: even worse? >> even worse, yeah. >> reporter: back now to the live pictures, you can see why penndot and drivers are eager for some way to ease congestion through here and it only gets worse through the rush hour. widening the interstate is nearly impossible with the river on one side and hills and housing on the other side. you even see the railroad tracks that come into the equation. penndot says the study of this plan will be complete in the spring. reporting live from sky force 10

4:46 pm
>> this is the next step for them. he's the right move. we will not know. i think a lot of people are still trying to figure out the answers, which is baffling to me of this whole process of the coaching arena of who is going to get an interview, who was coming in, who's going to get offered the job, but for doug and his family, i'm very excited for them. it will be whoever is quarterback for the philadelphia eagles and they'll be able to reap the benefit just like i did. >> coming up at 5:00 we'll hear from another former teammate of pederson, get his take on the expected new head coach. for now, danny pommells for comcast sportsnet. jim, jackie, back to you. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> yeah, still not feeling very much like football weather today with temperatures getting into the 50s, but it's going to feel like it next week. we are tracking heavy rain first. this is a fairly good size system, a lot of moisture with
