washington, d.c. you're locking at president obama's motor cade skidding on roads. the trip to the white house took nearly an hour longer than it should have. >> tonight's flakes are just a preview of what's coming our way this weekend. a winter storm that will blanket most of our area. >> tonight we begin with fist alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> you see the image of washington, d.c. that storm system, it's a small clipper system. this is not the winter storm for the end of the week. we're seeing snow in new jersey and delaware, cape may county, newcastle and kent and sussex county. by the time this moves through, which should be pretty quickly, we could see around an inch of snow accumulated in most of the areas. so some slick spots possibly on the roadways through new jersey and south delaware tomorrow

morning. keep that in mind. otherwise now we're looking into the weekend. we have a winter storm watch out for the area. this is friday night into early sunday morning. and this is really the time frame that we expect the snow to be falling. lowering visibility, winds gusting near 35 miles an hour and there's a chance for power outages. the question everyone has been wondering. how much snow does it look like? well right now possibly 14 inch ors more. that's going to stretch down to washington where they could expect two feet. possibly chester county and then we'll see ten inches or more philadelphia up to trenton. some parts of interior new jersey and maybe in the lee high fa valley we could see six inches or more and now some indications of a rain/snow line moving into

new jersey and delaware. coming up i'll show you some of the updates with the future weather model. what you can expect as we go into the weekend an an update on the timing as well. that's straight ahead. >> our tem coverage continues with nbc 10's keith jones. >> the city is saying now is the time to get prepared. >> reporter: right now the truck are out brining the roads. it's quiet for now. but this will be really busy come friday. the salt zone here in north philly. the storm two days away, yet roads crews are out tonight. >> we want to prepare for the worse. if residents of the city are priority number one. >> reporter: this is his first as street's commissioner and also a first for mayor jim kenny. >> we're trying to put into place every piece of equipment that we have, gets chains on every wheel. >> reporter: the mayor talked to us at the u.s. conference of mayors in washington, d.c. where a blizzard watch is in effect.

he's racing back tomorrow. while tonight the crews are treating the highways. >> we try to brine 48 hours before our first snowfall. salting operation begins when the snow begins to small. >> reporter: the timing is a good thing, no school, most businesses are closed. most people can stay home. that's the advice of the office of emergency management. they're expecting a major for easter expected to bring heavy snow, ice and wind. >> that gets up perked up about downed trees and issues about power outages. all the more reason that the public should be prepared now. >> reporter: nonperishable foods as well. the snow is kpnted to come on friday. it help tots stay off of the roadways. they also tell you too to sign up for ready philadelphia. you can do that by heading to nbc 10 kom.

down the shore coasting flooding is the concerns. crews brought in heavy machinery to dump sand hoping to protect shore homes from a rush of water. >> we continue our team coverage live in atlantic city. andraya, this could be bad for business. >> reporter: you can see it is snowing here. that's not what they're worried about. it's the flooding that may be enough to put already struggling businesses under water. especially when it comes to their bottom line. it's the calm before the storm. in addition to the snow, an onshore wind is coinciding with a full moon and high tide that has atlantic city preparing for coasting flooding. >> buying some sandbag and salt. >> reporter: but he cannot afford another disaster. the food market is already struggling to stay open during the wrsenning atlantic city

economy. >> anything happen just to close my store a few days, i'm behind my rent. my electric bill is not paid on time. to anything will happen, it will cost me a lot. >> reporter: meanwhile, tough times have rico smith hoping the bad weather can put him to work. >> that will give me an option to go out and shovel snow. >> reporter: employees make sure that the coolers are full as the shoppers are not waiting until the last minute to stock up. >> we were busy today. >> reporter: that includes benjamin gaither who stopped by with his son. how long will this food last you? >> with this guy? saturday. >> reporter: now residents may be stuck inside for one to two days. they're being advised to prepare for possible power outages, to remove their cars to higher ground and to remember how dangerous it is to drive in flood waters. reporting live, and dre ya cline

home and was trying to get the suspect to move out. a police commander driving to that homicide scene got into a crash that injured two children. investigators say a woman driving along belmont avenue crash into the officer's unmarked car. her 9-year-old daughter sitting in the front seat hit her head on the windshield. she and a 2-year-old boy in the car went the-to-the hospital with minor injuries. there were no car seats in the vehicle. from fire to ice, cleanup efforts today following last night's massive apartment fire. the building almost completely incased in ice now. officials say parts of the building, mainly the exposed freestanding masonry it's going to have to be demolished. nay ear working fast to get this accomplished before this weekend's storm hits. tonight, the victim worked for the parking authority and tomorrow they will announce a

new reward for information about his murder. maurice cousins speaks about the murder of his older brother mark marshals through tears. >> okay, i want to be just like him. and i don't have that anymore. >> police say a gunman pulled up in a van december 16th and murdered the 34-year-old parking authority employee. marshals was walking his two dogs at 47th when he was killed less than a block from his home. his family tells me a witness overheard an argument between mark and the gunman and it appeared he did not know his killer. >> i don't know you, you don't know me, you got the wrong person. >> police released this sketch of the suspected shooter saying he jumped back into this older man van seen on surveillance video. >> trying to fathom this is unbelievable. >> marshal's mother says her son spent five years with the parking authority and was going through the process of entering

the philadelphia police academy with dreams of joining the mounted patrol. >> he always had ambition to be somebody important. >> his family hopes the announcement of an increased reward will bring police the leads they need to find mark's killer. >> let's get some clues here. you really hurt or family. >> police have the a van but they're still looking for the van's owner. the ppa plans to announce the increase in the reward tomorrow. tonight a man possibly linked to isis is in custody accused of threatening to hurt police officers in new york city and philadelphia. the nypd received an anonymous tip about that threat today. our sister station in new york reports the tipster claimed allegiance to isis. the suspect turned himself in to police. this comes after two weeks after philadelphia officer was shot in an ambushed attack. >> what you're getting here is hey is the house negro.

one of two fie yats that carried pope francis through philadelphia last september is heading to the auction block. the archdiocese of philadelphia made the announcement today. the auction is open to the public and takes place on friday, january 29th at the philadelphia auto show.

new at 11:00, calls for the allentown mayor to step down. tonight city council voted for his resignation. >> ranly gyllenhaal has the story. >> something is rotten in this city of allentown. >> seven months into this fbi probe and an overflow crowd comes to city hall, most here demanding their own mayor step down. >> that he has stolen from the citizens of allentown. >> ed po low ski has not been charged but three hof his deputies pled guilty in a scheme to accept campaign cash for city projects. tonight the city council voted unanimously for his resignation amid months of suspicion. >> there's no doubt in our mind that our mayor will be indicted. >> and the cloud gets darker every day. >> council president says this vote is the strongest action

ptsd and that president obama is to blame. palin's son track was arrested earlier this week on domestic violence and weapons charges. palin addressed the arrest today while stumping with trump today. suggesting the arrest is related to her son's ptsd and linked it to president obama's lack of leadership. >> but my son, like so many others, they come back a bit different, they come back hardened, they come back wondering if there is that respect for what it is their their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military so sacrificially has given to this country. >> palin said veterans question whether president obama understands what their service entail. bill clinton spent the day stumping for his wife hillary clinton. telling campaign volunteers

today that he always thought thethe democratic primary would be competitive. well the win winter storm will be here by the weekend so we're tracking it very closely. snow right now. i'm going to show you that in a minute. we're talking about late friday into saturday, same time frame. that hasn't changed. but we have snow totals for the area as we go into the weekend. i've updated those a little bit. and we're talking about coastal flooding. it's going to be windy this weekend too. 28 in al lynneton, 30 philadelphia, 20s for south jersey and delaware. so everybody is below freezing which is important right now because we also have some snow falling. this is not the winter storm that will be here for the weekend. this is a small clipper system moving through and we're seeing light snow falling in parts of jersey and delaware currently.

gl now looking down into delaware, getting a break in some spots, even newcastle county. now cape may county, atlantic county very light snow. here's a live image of cape may. you see the snow covered roads and sidewalks in cape may. this is a pretty good coating. be very careful in those areas. tomorrow morning we could see slippery conditions on the roadways in parts of jersey and delaware. showers moving through burkes county. shouldn't amount to much though unless you're in new jersey and delaware as the small system moves through. we could see around an inch or less. that's what some of the models are suggesting here. by 2:00 a.m., half an inch in cape may, some models were suggesting a tiny bit more. but either way, enough to cause slippery roadways tomorrow morning. aside from that small system, we're looking ahead to the weekend. there's the winter storm.

it's 10:00, it's not here yet. this is 5:00 p.m. friday. i think we're going to have a close call with the evening commute for delaware and the snow approaching. there you see the snow moving into delaware, south jersey and delaware by 11:00 p.m. now we're seeing a rain snow line moving in. the models are picking up on a track shift, not much but enough to move the rain/snow line inland. 7:00 a.m. saturday still seeing snow, 2:00 p.m., still snow. it's going to be windy. then you see the transition over the rain for south jersey and delaware. shore concerns will be winds on shore, 60-mile-per-hour gusts. we're looking at flooding concerns. here's the snow forecast, could see 14 inches or more through newcastle, chester county, 10 or more around philadelphia and the higher totals could be getting pushed north and west now. what we do know, heavy areas of snow, coastal flooding major to

moderate, blowing snow. new tonight at 11:00, we're seeing the rain/snow line in new jersey and delaware. wasn't there before. higher totals north and west. we'll be tweaking that tomorrow. what we'll be watching is the rain/snow line and any change in the track that would then dictate where the rain/snow line is to work hand in hand. tonight, 25 for philadelphia, late snow showers mostly south of philadelphia. sunny, cold tomorrow but we're dry. fist alert day friday and saturday because of the storm, snow friday night, snow saturday, especially in the early morning hours. we'll see blowing snow, windy conditions so we'll be tracking that very closely with more updates tomorrow morning. coming up 6ers with a big effort in orlando tonight. highlights of that. doug peterson's new right-hand
