88-year-old man died from shoveling snow. >> if you look at nbc 10 first alert radar, you'll see the threat isn't over yet. so don't be fooled if the snow seems to have eased up. >> the intensity of this storm has made it a challenge for crews working to get roads passable again. check out this live picture from bethlehem, north hampton county, courtesy of nbc 10 photo journalist jim freeman. look at this. as you can see, other streets just haven't really been touched yet. >> here's a live look at the conditions in wilmington, where they experienced heavy snowfall and strong wind gusts earlier this evening. look at all of that snow piled up on the cars. now with temps below freezing, that will dip into the teens overnight. freezing all of that. >> we're live in ocean city tonight. parts of the shore have seen flooding worse than superstorm sandy as the full moon, high tides and powerful onshore winds combine to make water, not snow, the big threat here. >> tonight we have live team coverage from the shore to the lehigh valley. our nbc 10 journalists are in

delaware, south jersey, the city and the suburbs. checking on the conditions in your neighborhood. we begin with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> north and west, the snow is clearing out. in new jersey, delaware, you still have snowfall here. but the big picture you just see, it is winding down. finally starting to move out. but we'll zoom into new jersey. this is where we still see some pretty steady lighter snowfall, especially burlington, atlantic, cumberland county, upper cape may county. we'll be watching this move through as we go through tonight, and then move offshore. there are heavier pockets in parts of burlington county. we're still going to see some more accumulations in those spots. around milford in delaware, kent, and upper sussex county, we'll watch this area of snow, too. but that will move away very shortly. philadelphia area has really dried up, especially areas north and west. you may still have light snow left over in bucks and mercer counties. these are big improvements from what we saw earlier today. so now the storm is finally

starting to move away. temperatures are in the 20s. we'll be dropping to the teens in some locations tonight. many locations, i think, by early tomorrow morning. so there is another threat with this. so we have a lot of snow around. now a lot of the roads that have been plowed, we may have some slushy conditions. so those are definitely the roads you need to watch for any ice forming. any wet surfaces that you had today, they're going to be refreezing. they should already be refreezing. keep in mind, it's still going to be windy overnight, so we'll still be seeing blowing snow. record flooding today. cape may harbor, as of the high tide this evening, we're still over flood stage currently. for stone harbor, we had a record this morning with high tide. this evening, we have still been over the previous record. so currently we still stand at a major flood in stone harbor. coming up we'll talk about tomorrow morning's high tide time along the shore, and also how much snow that you saw in your neighborhood today. >> and sheena just told us about

that historic flooding down the shore. high water so bad in some places, it was worse than superstorm sandy. >> nbc 10 jersey shore reporter ten greenberg is live in ocean city tonight. ted, despite that flooding, as bad as it looks, some people are counting their blessings tonight? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, jim and jackie. many streets are still flooded. local leeshaders here at the sh feel like they dodged a bullet tonight, because the water did not get as high as they feared it would. the ocean remained angry, into the night. but the evening's high tide stopped short of the record levels that drove people out of their homes saturday morning. >> this makes me want to move away from the shore. >> reporter: this rescue by firefighters in wildwood, one of many along the coast. as people found themselves stranded in houses surrounded by flooding, especially severe in parts of cape may county.

>> it's a heck of a lot more serious than sandy. >> the water kept coming up. i knew that i had to get out of there. >> reporter: water that came inside antonio's house which wasn't spared by sandy either. he spent the night with other evacuees at a shelter in woodbine. >> this is my second disaster. my second time that i'm going to lose everything. >> reporter: the water also streamed into this bakery in stone harbor, untouched by the 2012 hurricane, but not this time. >> of course, water gets in everywhere. >> reporter: damage from water and wind that left tens of thousands in the dark. >> there's going to be a lot of property damage with this particular storm. >> reporter: as for those who are still without power tonight, atlantic city electric expects to have estimated restoration times for those customers by 7:00 tomorrow morning. live in ocean city, ted greenberg, nbc 10 news.

>> thank you, ted. atlantic city electric service does have the most outages in our area. they say more than 25,000 customers still in the dark. most of them in cape may county. delmarva reports nearly 2,700 outages. all reporting less than 100 outages each in our area. this is something you never want to see, an ambulance stuck in the snow. this is in allentown tonight. fortunately, no patients were inside. >> tonight the blizzard took its toll on a local church. the roof collapsed under the weight of the snow, sending debris raining down, and setting off the church's sprinklers. >> harry, the congregation will have to find another place to worship. but undoubtedly saying a prayer no injuries in that collapse much t much. >> reporter: moments ago i talked to the pastor and he's still in disbelief of how big

the hole is in his roof. the pastor here of the calvary fellowship roof said the hole is more than 60 feet in diameter. this is what reverend lee wiggins and his daughter saw after opening the door to the church's auditorium shortly after 6:00 p.m. >> i looked up there, and you can see out to the sky. probably about a third of the roof, half of the roof of the auditorium just gone. >> i almost cried. i couldn't handle it. >> reporter: the reverend tells me more than five feet of snow fell through the roof, setting off the sprinkler system that flooded the auditorium. >> it was like niagara falls. i guess it just happened, because the snow was just flooding -- coming down. >> reporter: restoration expert john stout examines the damage. how bad is this? >> bad. it's the worst i've seen in this area. we've dealt with worse across the country, but this is the worst i've seen here in chester county. >> reporter: the worst may not be over. >> they say they're expecting possibly this entire roof will collapse tonight.

. a reminder to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. our cameras captured the trac r tractor-trailer that became stuck in the show in bethlehem, north hampton county. it blocked four lanes of traffic at eighth avenue and route 378 for hours. now that the blizzard of 2016 is moving out, the cleanup, of course, begins. >> and transportation officials are trying to get their services back up and running as quickly as possible. >> bus service will be restored on a route-to-route basis starting at 10:00 sunday morning, tomorrow morning. city trolleys will resume tomorrow morning as well with some delays. officials will give an update tomorrow morning on the high speed line and regional rail service. amtrak will continue to operate, though, on a modified schedule tomorrow. passengers who have already gotten reservations are urged to check their train status on amtrak's website.

>> how about the flights. philadelphia international airport expects to resume operations gradually tomorrow. passengers should check with their airline before going to the airport. because a lot of schedules may still be reduced. we'll be right back.

but the republican house of representatives has insisted on a budget that fails to fund education and balloons the deficit. call your legislator, tell them to pass a budget that's right for pennsylvania. welcome back to our live coverage of the blizzard of 2016. look at this sight. philadelphia still under a snow emergency. this is from the comcast center in center city. philadelphia covered in a blanket of white snow. the lights twinkling a beautiful sight, but a lot of work ahead. >> a lot of work. george, earlier you found a lot of cries trying to navigate out

of tough situations that were stuck in that snow. what is it like where you are now? >> reporter: jacqueline, i guess you could say things have stabilized down here. down in south philadelphia, compact and condensed, one of the eternal questions is where to put all of this snow. parking lots behind me has been cleared, creating these huge mounds of snow covering up some of these mailboxes here. as we look down reed street, it is clear that tomorrow will be a day of big digouts. in south philly tonight, entire blocks of snow lay untouched, stoops unshoveled, and cars nearly invisible. signs that even tonight it's best to get around on foot. >> i went for a jog to meet her. broad street, there was no one on the streets. it was awesome. >> a lot of snow. a lot of work. >> reporter: kevin gardner was one of the busiest guys in the city tonight, among the snow shovelers getting a head-start on that tiring, cold task, looming for many homeowners

tomorrow. what is your biggest challenge at this point? >> just getting it from here to there. >> reporter: finding a place to put it, too, right? >> yeah. >> reporter: for some philly drivers, the storm put a freeze on car travel, forcing many to rely on the help of strangers during this storm of memorable scale. >> there's not much usual in this situation. i haven't seen snowfall like this maybe once in the last ten years. >> reporter: you can see cars are now moving on the streets here in south philadelphia. and on the other side of the sidewalk, you can see that well shoveled-out fire hydrant. that is something that the city is encouraging residents to do. they're asking peeople to stay off the roads as much as they can to get the side streets plowed out. >> thank you, george. let's go from philadelphia to

delaware where the storm moved into our area first. >> randy gyllenhaal saw a range of weather. more than a foot of snow. some of the strongest wind gusts as well. randy, how are the conditions there now? >> reporter: well, for the first time in about 30 hours, it's not snowing. and we just got word from the governor's office that they'll begin to ease traffic restrictions at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. so you can drive if you're able to actually get your car out of the driveway. more than a full day after the snow started falling, and it was still blowing sideways in delaware. >> blizzard, i would say. lots of wind. very cold. >> reporter: ski goggles. >> yeah, ski goggles. >> reporter: katy cahill tried to make a dent in her driveway, but it kept coming down faster than she could shovel. and to be clear, it's going to take a lot of residents days to clear all of this snow out. look at the snowdrift just covering this car. the family here couldn't get out of their back door.

and plow truck drivers say it's almost a losing battle out there. >> i've been out since 12:00 last night, 12:00 a.m., and it hasn't stopped. >> reporter: part of the problem is people trapped who shouldn't have been driving in the first place. >> i went to turn down here, and i just got stuck. the snow is just too deep. >> reporter: and because of the danger on the roads, many families just walk to nearby rockford park, making the most of an historic blizzard, the first taste of snow this season was quite the mouthful. >> just play board games, sleep. >> reporter: are you hoping school gets canceled on monday? >> yes. i love snow days. >> reporter: meantime, in southern delaware, very serious situation. tidal flooding because of those high tides, and those winds. hearing reports about roads closed and water rescues. live in wilmington, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news.

>> imagine spending nearly 30 hours stuck on a bus during this blizzard. >> just a nightmare. it happened to temple gymnastics team. but thankfully, tonight they're finally free. their bus started moving about two hours ago. police arrived and moved the dividers on the pennsylvania turnpike so the bus could turn around. the national guard dropped off military rations for the girls. the coach told us, things could have been worse. >> we're kind of making our time to talk about relief. we're really pleased that we know that we're okay. >> the team is staying at a hotel tonight and hoping to be back on campus tomorrow. >> over 500 vehicles stuck on the turnpike at the height of the storm. >> so glad they're okay. sheena, light at the end of the tunnel. >> yes, we're finally, finally seeing the storm moving out of

the area. if you're north and west of philadelphia, you're seeing a huge break. especially lehigh valley and poconos. new jersey still seeing the snow falling. not too heavy. but we do have more moderate snow pockets here, near atlantic city, parts of burlington county. the snow is still falling in parts of new jersey. the closer to i-95 you are, we are seeing clearing conditions. but it still extends into parts of sussex county. parts of bucks county, montgomery county. look at how much better this is than it was earlier today. we are seeing human improvements as that storm is moving away. live look down 8th and market in center city. snow-covered roads. not a lot of cars on the road. we have seen some here in the live camera. you really do not want to be on the road unless you absolutely have to. the snow plows have to get out and do their jobs, of course. snow totals from today. allentown airport saw 31.7 inches. that is the all-time record through a snowstorm or any snow event. that is the most snow they have

definitely seen. broken a record there. malvern, over 28 inches. philadelphia international, 20.8. sixth highest snow total report we've seen in philadelphia. records broken with this storm. bethlehem, 30 inches. collegeville, 26. trenton, 22 inches. mount holly, almost 20 inches there. a large portion of the area still digging out of that snow. tomorrow, i'm sure monday, too, but look at these temperatures now. we're in the upper to mid-20s. so as we go overnight, in i roads on the slushy side from the snow plows today, cars driving over them, we could easily see those becoming sheets of ice in the morning. i think most of the area still going to be under snow. we go through the overnight hours, the snow clears out tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., many areas could be in the teens. but at least we will be nice and dry. so that is the good news. then we go through the afternoon, and temperatures are in the mid to low 30s. the shore still another concern. we have another high tide tomorrow morning. so we'll be watching that for

flooding. 7:45 in the morning, sussex county, 8:00 a.m. for cape may county, 7:26 for atlantic county. for tonight, snow ending from west to east. it's still windy so we're still seeing blowing snow and areas of ice. tomorrow, sunny and cold. it will be a dry day. 33 to 36 degrees. then we go into the rest of your week. no big storms in the forecast for this one. stay tuned of the we'll be right back.
