released from a door on the opposite sit corner of this building. again, only nbc 10 was on the scene to get this video of three teenagers all in handcuffs being led into central detectives. this entire episode began just before noon today as the school was preparing for lunch. philadelphia police tell us a group of kids started fighting near a stairwell inside this seven-story, 80-classroom school. someone fired a shot. a security guard inside reported hearing that single gun shot go off. students tell us the school was immediately put into lockdown. no one allowed in or out and hungry students -- >> my daughter usually go to lunch around 12:15 so she usually call me around that time but she call immediate a little before said they was in lock down. they are shooting at the school. >> all the students are remaining in their classrooms and we're going to do a floor by

floor search, still recovering the weapon. no one was injured. we'll see. we'll be here for a while. >> reporter: again, as the police commissioner said right there, no one was injured with that single gun shot. a couple of people in custody, certainly the questioning continuing, and one of the questions for police is how those guns would have made it inside this school, i'm told the school does have metal detectors and students are search bfrd they go inside. and they believe investigators believe that this incident was captured on video. that is the latest in spring garden. george spencer, "nbc 10 news." new information this afternoon about a murder mystery in delaware. a man was found dead in a woman's home on elder court last night. we know the killer is still on the loose but police aren't saying who is victim is. nbc 10's reporter tim furlong live on the scene to tell us more. what have you found out? >> reporter: we've been pushing

for answers all day. we've been pushing and police aren't ready to give out many. you can see an officer keeping an eye on the murder scene. police had a tough time finding the family members of the man killed so they are not read the identify him. they have a suspect they believe they know who they are looking for. >> i don't know what's going on. >> reporter: police aren't telling residents much about what happened in this house last night. the homeowner works in new york during the week, last night a call was made asking police to check on the house. they found a murder scene, a male dead. >> it's an adult male, it's not a random act and so police are currently searching for a suspect. >> reporter: the owner lives in the house with her boyfriend who was here during the week. he runs basketball clinics. >> he asked me if i want to learn how to play to come and so he could train me. >> reporter: he doesn't have a car. >> he used to walk to wawa in the morning. >> they saw him walking almost every day. they didn't today. i tried to friend him and call the number on his website.

forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn. a school bus accident in gloucester township sends six students to the hospital today. police are telling us no one was seriously hurt. sky force 10 over the scene on sicklerville road and first responders removed the injured from the bus. the bus was rear-ended by an suv. >> a new castle county music teacher is suspended after allegations she acted inappropriately with a student. nicole taught at two elementary schools and middle school all in the school district. police are investigating but no charges have been filed. she also gave private muf sick lessons. the school sent home a letter to parents encouraging them to be aware of the situation. >> our 20 minutes of nonstop news continues where the allentown mayor issued the state of the city address. our focus was on the mayor himself and whether he should leave the city during an active fbi investigation.

he is implicated in an fbi probe into a possible pay to play scheme involving campaign contributions and city contracts. the mayor isn't charged but city council has called on him to resign. nbc 10 investigative reporter mitch blacher questioned the mayor today. what did he say about staying on the job? >> reporter: jim, he's not leaving he said he will not be distracted not by the fbi investigating his office nor by calls for his resignation prom the city council. >> i have faith, faith in allentown. >> reporter: the mayor stood before a crowd clearly on his side. >> i thought it was courageous, i thought it was wonderful. >> reporter: he was surrounded by business leaders and members of his administration. the city council was absent. earlier the council called unanimously for the mayor's resignation. >> can you be an effective leader for the city? >> i am being the best leader i can. i'm moving forward. we are doing a great job. >> reporter: he has not been

charged or indicted but other city officials have including his finance director. the fbi's case centers around city contracts being steered to the mayor's campaign donors. >> were you involved in steering any contracts to campaign contributors? >> i can't talk about an ongoing investigation. >> reporter: during the state of the city the mayor never mentioned the scandal. >> the state of our city is and continues to be strong. >> reporter: even when asked directly he tried to ignore the questions and pivot to talking points. >> do you fear indictment? >> we got a great city to -- story to tell. we've got a great city, my focus is on the state of the city speech today. >> reporter: the mayor has always denied any involvement in steering city contracts to his contributors, he continues to be steadfast he will stay in office despite calls for his resignation. mitch blacher, "nbc 10 news." >> there's a new push by philadelphia to help residents apply for the earned income tax

>> we learned that no charges will be filed in the death of a delaware county machblt authorities first called the death suspicious. this morning family members of paul brandenberger protested that. outside the courthouse. he was found dead four years ago this month. at the time the medical examiner said he could have been poisoned. but no direct evidence was discovered. the man's fee on say was found guilty of fraud and that prompted a new look at the case. today his family is disappointed. >> we feel to date that the d.a.'s office has not conducted an intense investigation as called for. that's what we seek. >> family members came from as far as texas for today's rally. they believe the evidence points to murder. the district attorney's office says there isn't enough evidence to charge anyone the d.a. says he's willing to review new evidence and meet with the family again. police officers in delaware county will soon be the first to carry a newly approved way of

delivering the drug that reverses heroin over doses. they will be equipped with narcan in nasal spray. makers say the spray delivers a more efficient dose and is easier to use. >> septa's new west terminal at the 69th street center is officially open. local leaders cut the ribbon in upper darby today marking the finish of a number of improvements. the terminal features a reconstructed platform, new track and road surfaces, and safety cameras. the project is part of septa's rebuilding for the future program. >> >> the philadelphia auto show kicks into gear today at the pennsylvania convention center. the show runs through february 7th. more than 700 car models are on display, tickets for adults, $14, seniors, kids and active military members get a discount.

this afternoon a groupch special education students from the philadelphia archdiocese got a treat. they got to check out cars a it the show and get an up close and personal view of the fiat the pope used for the world meeting of families this past fall and tonight that car will be auctioned during a black tie gala. pope francis known for his simplicity so the the choice of such a modest car during his visit seemed to fit in with his focus on non-materialistic things. >> we have new information about a raccoon attack in new jersey. a 6-year-old is home from the hospital. a raccoon attacked him on the way to school. the animal jumped on the boy's back and began scratching and biting his face. a man who heard the mom screaming for help killed the raccoon. the family is waiting to learn if it had rabies. two new cases of the zika virus

confirmed today, both had been traveling to affected areas in central and south america. more airlines and cruise operators are allowing pregnant women to change itineraries. the virus can cause serious birth defects. jetblue, spirit, american and united working with customers who want to make changes. so are carnival, norwegian and royal caribbean cruise lines. nbc 10 is helping you understand the threat. nbc 10's south jersey reporter cydney long took your fears to top doctors and travel agencies in the region. >> scary. like that's what i have to say as far as a mother's nightmare. >> she's not pregnant and not traveling out of the country soon. so we checked in with travel agencies to ask what they are hearing about the zika virus. >> it's up to the individual

traveler. are you afraid, are you concerned at all. >> we reached out to the american society of travel agents vice president of communications jennifer michaels, she says sclints don't seem panicked. >> we don't see massive cancellations. we see few travel agent hoogs are each called and asked questions by clients. >> agents are working with airlines and cruise lines who are allowing expectant moms to postpone trips or get refunds. aaa, liberty travel and great escapes all told us some clients are nervous and calling but they will advise clients of any health risk, encourage them to speak to their doctor. >> not all policies allow to you cancel your trip based on something you might get, that would be the situation now with the zika virus. >> dr. shah is the director of maternal fetal medicine. >> i have had phone calls yes.

by the way, there's going to be a big blizzard in iowa next tuesday. and miss it by one day. as everybody's reporting on the results they are going to be in the middle of a blizzard. nothing like that here. we've got the melt and refreeze again tonight with patchy areas of icing. warmer weather pattern starting on sunday, it's not going to last indefinitely but several days worth. and then it gets warmer. potentially some record warmth next week. we had a lot of clouds around during the day today and the temperature a little above average, now at 41 degrees, the wind really picked up. 21 miles an hour making it feel like 32 degrees. humidity is dropping and the temperature is dropping. 36 degrees in allentown, pottstown and reading. some moisture around from some of the snow showers and so with the temperature goes down, below the freezing mark, you'll get

some of that refreezing once again. so you got to watch out once again another night of the same thing happening. and tomorrow, same thing. if the we keep getting the kind of temperatures i'm predicting that snow is going to disappear. the temperature's going down as you can see. philadelphia 28 by 10:00, 25 by 4:00 a.m. the wind will be diminishing so we won't have a wind chill issue. so saturday's about 43, and look at sunday, 54. monday, up to 60. tuesday, 54. and wednesday maybe the warmest of all. how much snow is left? none down in extreme southern delaware and coastal new jersey. but of course the farther north we get, the more we have. the light blue is 3 inches or more. and just a couple days ago they had a foot of snow in wilmington. and philadelphia, 3 inches or more in south philly or center

city. dark blue is 6 inches or more. northeast philly and much of montgomery and bucks counties. have that. and then the purple, still a foot or more in all of the lehigh valley and much of berks county. so there are some places that have a lot of snow to get rid of. this didn't really add to it much. we had snow showers come through the area, most cases temperature above freezing and it melted. and now we are just left with a couple little snowflakes here. flurries. that's about it. as we go through the night tonight temperatures going down. into the 20s, some places even into the teens. so yeah, it's a chilly night but we really are going to warm up as we head into sunday. especially. so clearing and cold with that refreeze late. 23 for low in philadelphia, 17 north and west. during the day tomorrow, we start up with sunshine, the clouds increase, cold morning

but not too cold in the afternoon. especially because there's not going to be as much wind as today so it won't feel as cold. then a big temperature jump on sunday. 54 degrees, beautiful day. 60 with a chance of showers, monday, we drop a few degrees on tuesday but that's pretty mild. and then whoa, that could be a record, on wednesday we could also get thunderstorms before we cool down again. up to sky force 10 over breaking news here in philadelphia's port richmond section. see that red car there, in the middle of your screen. emergency crews on the scene after this accident off i-95, that car was traveling northbound on 95 when as you see right there it went right off the road over the embankment. we don't know if there are injuries right now. but you see there are crews there on the side of the road, obviously working to try to help that person. two lanes are blocked in the northbound lanes of i-95. let's let sky force 10, they are

welcome back. zika outbreak spreads across central and south america concerns are spreading here in our area about what this virus is and what it can do. >> today we brought in an expert to help answer your questions. joining us is dr. stacey gorski. thank you for being here. let's get into it. first of all, let's explain for those who aren't familiar what zika is and how people can get it. >> zika virus is part of a family of viruses and like other members of that family it is spread through the bite of a mosquito, it's been around for some time, it was first discovered in the zika forest, which is where it gets its name from in uganda in 1947. it's been a mild infection until recently. >> so it has changed is what

you're saying? we've been reporting on one of the big concerns in pregnant women. what can happen for those who may not be aware. >> that's a huge unknown is what is going on in brazil. prior to december 2015 i don't think many scientists had even discussed or heard of zika. what is going on did the virus change, mutate is a big unknown. the viruses are what we call an rna virus, that molecule is unstable and can have higher rates of mutation so that's a possibility of what's going on in brazil. >> what about spread here? how easily do mosquitoes travel and or someone coming into this country from south or central america? >> certainly you are concerned of somebody that has recently come back from areas that reported infections. mosquitoes that of course land on an infected person, they draw blood and could potentially transmit it to another person.

a new report shows that 19 jersey shore beaches sustained heavy damage during this past weekend's blizzard. >> the department of environmental protection says the biggest problem is erosion. it shows the most severe damage in northern ocean county on long beach island where a project has been on hold because of opposition from oceanfront homeowners. beach elevation fell up to 15 feet in parts of long beach township, up to eight feet in atlantic city. ocean city beaches up to seven feet. today the cleanup continues along the coastline. nbc 10 jersey shore reporter ted greenberg is live in wildwood. >> i know you found neighbors coming together to help those hit the hardest. >> reporter: yes, they really are coming together. take a look. we've got food here, lots and lots of clothing, bedding, even toys.

the opportunity job fair in new castle today focused on helping job seekers with resume writing and preemployment skills. it gave job seekers information about a new construction project in new castle that needs a variety of skilled workers. it's a $27 million project. >> it's going to be an iconic project. library, innovation center, 43,000 square foot. >> another job fair is planned for the same location, the rose hill community center. we'll keep you posted. the fear of falls touches off the recall of nearly 1.5 million shower rugs. here they are here. they are tristar rugs with four plastic suction cups. there are reports of 60 falls linked to the rugs.

have been bringing you answers to the most asked questions about the zika virus. >> as it spreads so do concerns. dr. stacey gorski is joining us. we know there is no vaccine now so can you walk us through the process to get one available? >> it takes time. and order to take a potential vaccine from the lab to a clinical product, a licensed product that can be given to the general public takes from eight to 18 years. and on the short side the eight years that's for a pathogen that we have a good background, a good understanding of. we're not there with zika. we're starting from scratch so we need a lot more basic science to be done first understanding what are the parts of the virus that can generate a strong immune response, then once you find those you have to make sure that induces what we call immunological memory, your immune system can remember that you saw that vaccine and that

we have mostly cloudy skies, it's 41 degrees, the wind 21 miles an hour. right around the same temperature as we saw cñyesterd. and tomorrow will be very similar to today. but not as windy. and the temperature tonight going down into the mid-20s in philadelphia, by 4:00 a.m. of course, whatever melted will refreeze. also some moisture from the rain and snow showers that will add to some of the icy spots. so it's already 28 degrees in mount pocono and cooling down, it's 35 in coatesville and doylestown, 36 in reading, pottstown and allentown. and bluebell right now. 40 degrees in northeast philly, 39 in mount holly. 37 in wilmington. 35 in kennett square. and 38 degrees in millville. also in dover, delaware. we also have some pretty gusty winds, 36 miles an hour in

wilmington and dover. 32 miles an hour in millville. 31 in reading. yeah, that's a windy afternoon. and the wind will be diminishing quite a bit over the next several hours. 41 here, but look to our west. that's where our air is coming from. look at this. 70 in wichita, 77 in dallas. 77 degrees. so, we have potentially very warm air that's going to be coming here, at least briefly. clearing and cool tonight with refreeze late, 23 for a low in philadelphia, 17 north and west. during the day tomorrow we're going to be seeing a lot of sunshine during the day, clouds increase later. much less wind and the temperature getting into the 40s. into the 50s on sunday. 54 specifically. near 60 on monday, a lot of

a local elementary teacher is sporting a new look. >> yeah. he made the big change to reward students for collecting change. >> that's george with the colorful hair. that was part one of his makeover today. after the color came the big shave. he even let his students take turns cutting off his locks as you can see. brave man. it was reward for his students collecting change since november all for the children's hospital of philadelphia. >> he -- >> worth it for the kids, worth it for the great cause of children's hospital and to see the kids pay it forward. it was great. every year it gets bigger and bigger. >> the students raised $1500 for children's hospital over the course of three years, parkside

stairwell. located in spring garden section, no one was hurt but the school was placed on lockdown as a result. nbc 10's george spencer is live at the school and george, just found out there were at least two guns inside today. >> reporter: that's right. big developments here in the past hour. philadelphia police have now finished searching this school and every student inside of it. we confirmed that they did recover one gun inside this school building today, but it was not the same gun that fired the gun shot involved in today's brawl so apparently it was a second gun that was inside this school building. only nbc 10 was on the scene earlier today to get this video of three teenagers, all of them in handcuffs being led into central detectives. this whole episode began before noon today as the school was preparing for lunch. philadelphia police tell us a group of kids started fighting near a stairwell
