nbc 10 starts now. decision dayç is here. registered voters will cast their ballots in the iowa caucus in the first official test for the candidates running for president. happening today, we're expecting to learn new details about that deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia. the ntsb will release thousands of pages of information about the crash. and let the melting continue. here's a live look at the battleship new jersey. temperatures are in the 40s and they're going up. it's 4:00 a.m. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast for this monday. bill? >> tracy, we're starting off with clouds but we are dry at least for now. that's going to change this afternoon. you can see the showers that are already in western pennsylvania

but through the morning commute, we will be dry. 42 degrees right now. we could hit 60 degrees today before those showers arrive. we'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington now has your first alert traffic. >> that's right, bill. we are starting out in new jers jersey, woolwich township. exit 2 so far, all lanes are open. the new jersey turnpike, we're still into the green. no problem there heading around the new jersey turnpike. at least on the southbound side at that point now. we'll keep you updated for sure if backups occur. here's the vine street expressway, around 24th street. no problems, direction headed westbound towards the schuylkill and all lanes open. we don't have any of the construction that's been ongoing for several months. drive times are okay. still in the green into center city, no problems on the blue route southbound from the schuylkill to 95. a 15-minute trip.

tracy? >> jessica, thanks. now to decision 2016. we're hours away from the iowa caucuses. here's a look at the final republican poll in iowa. donald trump has 28%, leading ted cruz by 5 points, followed by marco rubio and ben carson. on the democratic side, the race is close. hillary clinton has a three-point lead on bernie sanders but since that's been the poll's margin of error, the contest is a statistical tie. the white house candidates wrapped up their final campaign rallies last night with each hoping to sway undecided voters. katy zachry is live in our digital operations center. did we hear anything that could do it? >> possibly yb we in the democrats, bernie sanders and hillary clinton are running neck and neck as you saw those numbers in iowa. both made their final pitches to voters heading into monday night's caucuses. >> monday night could be an historic night for this country. we can make history.

i urge you all to come out to caucus. >> the incredible stories you've told me, your hopes, your worries. i am a better candidate and thanks to you, i will be a better president. >> the candidates drew contrast with each other on certain issues but neither one attacked the other personally during their final campaign rallies. now on to the gop side. donald trump began his final push in iowa yesterday by attending church services with his wife. later the two attended a rally hosted by evangelical leader jerry falwell jr. trump is having success drawing evangelical voters away from ted cruz. speaking of cruz, evangelicals are a key group for him. the text texas senator delivered a high energy speech last night. he said it's the duty of iowans to distinguish who's telling the truth and who's blowing smoke, end quote. and marco rubio made his final argument to iowan republicans. the florida senator told voters

it's not about who you like the most. it's about who gives the gop the best chance to take back the white house. now tonight's the night voters in iowa will gather across the state to pick candidates. republicans will do it by secret ballot, democrats by dividing up into groups to decide. also weather could impact the caucuses. i'll have that part of the story coming up in the next half hour. live in the digital operations center, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 4:04 and 42ç degrees. this reminder, count on nbc 10 for complete coverage of the iowa caucuses. lauren mayk is reporting through tomorrow. see her reporting online, with the nbc 10 app and nbc10.com. we expect to learn new information about the deadly amtrak derailment that killed eight people in philadelphia. matt delucia is live at 30th street station. the ntsb is expected to release evidence they've gathered since the crash. what will we hear? >> first what we are not

expecting to hear is a conclusion about what caused the crash of amtrak 188. what is expected to be released is information, details from the black box and from photos, from documentation. we're expecting to see about 2,000 pages of information released from the ntsb later on this afternoon. this is the kind of information investigators will be looking at and using in order to determine an official cause. taking you back to the night of may 12th in the city's frankfurt neighborhood. amtrak 188 was going 106 miles per hour around a 50 mile-per-hour curve when it derailed, killing 8 and injuring more than 200 people. one of the top points of interest is going to be the transcripts of interviews conducted with the engineer, who after the crash said he did not remember what happened. the documents are expected to be released this afternoon with the final analysis coming several

months from now. coming up at 5:00, we'll talk about what we do know about this crash and what happens from here on out. live at 30th street station, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> amtrak is investigating a case of someone throwing objects at an acela express train in philadelphia last night. the object struck the train as it was rolling through bridesburg. no passengers or crew were hurt. the train was headed from washington to new york. more than 24 hours after a shooting in bethlehem, two people are behind bars and the teen victims are still in the hospital. police say a 14 an@ç 16-year-ol were hit by gunfire while walking near a church in the south end of bethlehem saturday night. one of the victims is in critical condition. nbc 10 spoke to the former basketball coach of one of the teens. >> sad. i feel very sad because, you know, you see kid that was under my wing at one time. once i heard that, i've been praying. >> bethlehem police say the investigation is ongoing. they are not looking for any

other suspects. police will not confirm whether saturday night's shooting in bethlehem is connected to another shooting that happened in allentown. allentown police arrested two 19-year-old men. they're charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. a 39-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. he is expected to be okay. it's 4:07. police have now charged the person of interest in a stabbing on a septa bus. this is surveillance video of the suspect. the incident happened on friday on route 46 on torresdale avenue in frankfurt. the suspect stabbed another rider during an argument. water service is expected to resume this morning in spring garden after this water main break last night. nbc 10 was on north street where repair crews arrived. the broken six inch main caused a small cave-in along the street. the water department fixed the same pipe last week. we have a call out to them to see when the water will be turned back on. now your nbc 10 first alert

weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> the melting continues this morning. temperatures are above freezing and they'll stay above freezing. in fact, close to the 60 degree mark this afternoon. but during the afternoon i'm tracking some showers. rain showers this time around and record warming before the week is done. looks like wednesday will be the warmest. 42 right now in doylestown, northeast philadelphia, 49 and 51 degrees in mill xrl. dry right now, completely dry for the morning commute. for the afternoon commute, a didn't story. we could see rain coming down. before that happens, the temperatures will be coming up. 48 degrees for pottstown, coatesville.ç look at wilmington, in the 40s and 50s. new jersey, millville, atlantic city in the low 50s to start with. a warm start for pennsauken, camden at 47 at this hour. the snow melt is continuing and the snow pile slowly coming down. we won't add to any wet this morning but this afternoon, this

will dampen things a bit. these showers moving through with the cold front which will cool things down tomorrow. not today. before they arrive, a big warmup, even those skies will be mostly cloudy. we'll get thin spots, see sunshine this morning. the first rain drops, that's 2:00 this afternoon for trenton, philadelphia, delaware, the steadiest showers may stay to the south and delaware and south jersey and by later tonight, 7:00 this evening, most of the area's drying out. by 9:00, it's clearing out. that will clear us for a colder night tonight. during day today, not bad at all. 44 in the pocono mountains, low 50s for allentown, quakertown, up to 55 degrees with afternoon showers for trenton, doylestown and norristown. at the shore, mostly cloudy skies and some later in the day showers. those evening showers will clear out and tomorrow will be a bit cooler. enjoy the temperatures in rehoboth over in vineland while they're here today. upper 50s to 60 degrees in

4:13 and 42 degrees in philadelphia. philadelphia is waiting to see if it won a government challenge to get the most people to sign up for health care. the deadline to enroll for coverage for this year was midnight. the tax penalty for not having insurance has gone up from last year. the minimum is $695 per adult. the maximum can run you as much as $2,000. you pay when you file your taxes. a team of independent blue cross agents manned a mobile enrollment center in bala cynwyd

yesterday. there were 100,000 uninsured philadelphians that the obama administration hoped to register. the next open enrollment is in october for coverage next year. philadelphia is one of the 20 cities targeted by the obama administration to increase the number of insured. the city with the most signups gets a visit from the president. last week, jim rosenfield sat down with president obama to talk about health care. you can see that exclusive interview on nbc10.com or on the free nbc 10 app. from our delaware bureau, islamic leaders are hoping that a forum held yesterday will educate the public on issues facing young muslims across america. nbc 10 was at the silverside church in wilmington where they held a panel discussion focused on the rise of islamophobia.ç president obama is scheduled to make his first visit to a u.s. mosque during his time in office. the administration says the

president will go to the islamic society of baltimore on wednesday. he's expected to hold a forum with community members and deliver remarks. 4:15. two virginia tech students are in jail without bond in connection to the death of a 13-year-old girl, freshman david eisenhower is charged with kidnapping and first degree murder. 19-year-old natalie keepers is charged as an accessory after the fact. they're accused of killing nicole lovell, she disappeared from her blacksburg home last friday. her body was pound in north carolina on saturday. yesterday, state police spent the day searching a pond on virginia tech's campus. they did not say what they were looking for. officials say a colorado department of corrections officer fired his gun during a deadly brawl at a motorcycle show in denver. one person died, another was stabbed and several others were hurt in the melee outside the denver coliseum. two biker groups blame each other for starting the brawl. the corrections officer who fired the gunshot belonged to

one of the groups mostly made up of police and military. it's not clear if that officer fired the fatal shot. so far, there are no arrests. police outside pittsburgh shot and killed a suspect after they say he stabbed a police dog. the dog named erin was rushed to the vet but died there. this started when port authority officers were chasing a suspect after a fight. he refused to put down a knife. erin's handler released him after the officers used takesers on the suspect and he didn't drop. the suspect stabbed erin and was then shot by police. hundreds of plumbers are volunteering to replace faus its in homes. lead got into the city's water supply in flint and that contaminated the tap water. people are forced to drink bootled walter. plumbers are installing water filters. both volunteers and home owners called this the right move. >> this isn'(o the some other country. this is america.

below freezing there. colder than theç mountains rig now. clouds are with us. those will be increasing as the day goes on. to the west, are showers and those are going to be arriving during the afternoon hours. just some light showers moving through. nothing heavy about this. it will help to melt what is already on the ground as the temperatures stay warm. the last showers will cross the shore during the evening hours. futurecast shows 4:00 this afternoon, light rain from trenton and philadelphia and wilmington. by 7:00 this evening, it's going to be a fast mover, right along the coast. different story on wednesday. wednesday morning, 7:00, 55 degrees. a good warmup. we'll be watching rain from the west. before the rain moves in, we'll see temperatures in the 60s wednesday afternoon. that's noontime on wednesday. the heavier rain pulls through in the afternoon hours. this computer model is showing low 60s. there's a potential for us to warm into the middle 60s which would set a record high

bill? >> a little damp because of a melting that's happened overnight with the unusually warm temperatures overnight. we're in the 40s, 50s for south jersey at cape may. here's the wet weather, in western and central pennsylvania. it's got a ways to go before it gets to us. for now, we're looking at temperatures that are slowly falling. 44 in philadelphia at the airport. look at the northeast, philadelphia and wilmington at 49 degrees. 46 in south philadelphia, roxborough 47 this morning. a mild start. the melting continues all day. the showers will wait until later this afternoon. 45 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00, 46 and a little bit of a wind out of the west/northwest at 9 miles an hour. at noontime, 54 degrees and climbing at that hour. go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching your first alert traffic. >> we're on the schuylkill expressway to start. you can see where all through the conshohocken curve area in the green, no problems with our drive times eastbound or westbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway.
