turn yourself in. it's not worth it. you know you did something wrong. >> right now at 6:00, people in philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood are calling on three passengers to turn themselves in to police after one of them shot a cab driver overnight. it happened during an attempted robbery. nbc 10 obtained this surveillance video that shows the cab crashing into several parked cars. thanks for joining us. tonight that cab driver is recovering in the hospital. a friend visited alex destin and sent us this fphoto of him. and that's where nbc 10's cydney

long is live with the latest. cydney, you tracked down that new surveillance video. >> reporter: denise, we did after canvassing several businesses. it's the time line that seems it could be relevant to this robbery and shooting investigation. we just learned the cabby is 38-year-old alex destin still healing here, in pain, we're told, but stable condition after being dropped off by a police officer overnight. a fellow employee came to visit him today. new video shows the speeding car. he crashes into parked cars. police say the 38-year-old driver was robbed and shot at point blank range by his own >> i'm just grateful that he didn't lose his life, and i'm sorry they got away. >> reporter: police say the wounded cabby flagged down a police officer and managed to lock two passengers, a male and

and the cop had his hand on the roof looking at the cap, but then he was talking to the cab driver. >> reporter: a block captain didn't want to share her last name. she says an unknowing passerby opened the cab door setting a female witness free. she confronted them. hide. the guy was like, yeah, um -- yeah, he hit cars and hit them on purpose. i was like, where are you going? you're a witness. >> reporter: and it's this video that may end up being critical to the crime. we went to the morris super deli to secure it. it shows one man waiting on two others, turning the corner at mars and 24th. they did so five minutes after intersection and two minutes before backup officers arrived. >> i don't know what you were thinking of robbing a cab. >> reporter: the pontiac grand prix was struck and now too

damaged to drive. she has this message for whoever pulled the trigger hurting the cabby. >> turn yourself in. >> reporter: and crippling her transportation. >> you did something wrong. own up to it. >> reporter: and police do confirm there were two guns used in the crime because both the front seat suspect and then the man in the back seat fired at the cabby through a partition but only one of the bullets struck him. police would not say whether they recovered any of those weapons. live in university city, i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. a chilly but nice afternoon. nbc 10 at the cooper river dog part in cherry hill where our cameras captured these dogs enjoying some outdoor play time. and taking a live look at the blue cross riverrink is really busy getting into the super bowl sunday spirit. there will be ice skating and arcade games for the kids as well as big screen tvs to watch the game tomorrow night. for more on the super bowl

sunday forecast let's check in with first alert meteorologist michelle grossman. how are things looking for super bowl sunday? things are looking really good. we topped out around 43 degrees. 42 is normal this time of year. tomorrow we're above normal. we'll keep sunshine in the forecast. look at this sunset outside. a beautiful picture from our adventure aquarium cameras. so a quiet but cold night tonight. if you have saturday night plans, bundle up. temperatures are going to be into the 30s overnight, in the 20s north and west. right now we're already cold looking at temperatures around 39 in philadelphia. 36 in allentown. 34 degrees right now in millville. 36 in wildwood. it feels like just 22 in mt. pocono. partly cloudy skies. 37. by 9:00, 35. and by 11:00 we are looking at 33 degrees. so another nice day on sunday. it will be milder than where we were today. we are tracking snow. we'll do that in just a few minutes. and this just in.

montgomery county health officials are worried a man who helped a young girl fight off a rabid raccoon may have been exposed to rabies but he left before anyone could get his name. that raccoon attacked the girl as she walked home from school thursday on the bridal wild trail in glad win. he use ad a hockey stick to fig off the animal. temple university police want to know who left racist messages on a car parked just off campus. take a look. someone drew a swastika and a racial slur in the snow on top of his car parked on north carlyle street. we blurred some of the images. temple university says it condemns the use of these symbols and language in the strongest terms. the university will make every effort to identify those responsible and will hold them accountable. we have new information about a shooting last night. police say the gunshot appeared

self-inflicted. they were called to a home around 7:30 for a report of a person shot. investigators say the 25-year-old man shot himself while handling a gun. he's now in stable condition. police shot and killed a man who barricaded himself inside his unit at an ocean county park. police have not released the man's name or other details saying it's an ongoing investigation. and now to decision 2016. in new hampshire tonight it's the republican candidates' turn. they'll debate just three days before the primary where donald trump is looking for his first win. nbc 10 national correspondent steve handelsman has more from the debate site near manchester. >> reporter: after losing iowa, donald trump tries to reassert himself to center stage tonight. despite polling first in new hampshire trump has not campaigned much in this snowy new england state.

he was in south carolina last night. >> my total focus now is on new hampshire and then next week my total focus will be here in south carolina. >> reporter: texas senator ted cruz got no boost in new hampshire polls from his iowa caucus win. marco rubio's support is surging, polling second here and rubio figures he will be targeted by christie, kasich and bush, only one of whom might have a chance after new hampshire. jeb bush was high energy today but his polls are trending down. >> who has the record of not solving problems? you're looking at him. his name is jeb bush. >> john kasich ran a restaurant before what could be his most critical debate. his polls are rising fast. he's tied for third here with cruz and the debate could be critical for trump who lost iowa soon after he ducked the iowa debate.

new surveillance video shows the moment a deadly earthquake rocked taiwan. the quake was so powerful it brought down this 17-story apartment building. 6.4 magnitude quake hit the southern city of tainan 24 hours ago. at least 14 people died. more han 100 were hurt.

it could take weeks to figure out what brought down this construction crane yesterday. investigators say or hope the crane's computer will offer them some clues. it killed one person and bad ly hurt three others. it collapsed and smashed through several cars and buildings. investigators believe high winds may have played a role. we're going to be milder sunday, near 50 degrees. and then we're tracking two chances for snow in your forecast. we'll look at that and your seven day up next.

several factors likely played a role at this fire in shanksville, pennsylvania. tonight the national parks service says its investigators found in official cause. in a new report the park service

says it believes smoking led to the 2014 fire. landscaping mulch was place d to close to the building. it destroys photographs and other items linked to the passengers aboard flight 93 which crashed during the 9/11 terror attacks. when no one seemed to be listening to health and safety concerns, those residents contacted the nbc 10 investigators. mitch blacher went to check out the issues and here is the story you'll see. >> reporter: from boil water to a moldy mobile home, residents say they've had enough. >> our home is only feet away. >> they asked us to step in. >> somebody had to speak up. >> reporter: we found numerous violations. >> we get reassuring statements

that seem to satisfy us but then when it comes to immregsation on the ground they fall short of that. >> how the management company plans to fix the problems. >> hundreds of women floncked t south jersey to get heart healthy. the sixth women's health expo in burlington county offered women a variety of free health screenings along with wellness activities. the event was held in conjunction with the american heart association's wear red day which raises awareness about the need to fight heart disease in women. a one-stop shop to support the students who will lead the workforce tomorrow. nbc 10 at the community college of philadelphia for latino college day. the event is designed to help young people take their places as students, entrepreneurs and

leaders. students from the college shared their experiences and offered tips on thriving in a college environment. research shows latinos account for the largest group on college campuses. also at the college today kids and parents alike celebrated the love of reading. authorities and illustrators read from their books at the african-american book fair. there were plenty of books for sale as well. we posed for some pictures. our president and general manager rick harris talked to the crowd about the importance of reading. and this is the 24th year of the event. it was wonderful to see so many people out there. so much interest. >> if there's one thing students can do is read. it gets your imagination going.
