bitter cold. temperatures are only on the teens right now. an underground fire and explosion forces evacuations and right now power is still out. classes are cancelled today. the campus is working to get back to normal after nearly 200 students and staff got sick. let's get right to meteorologist with his first forecast and talk about these temperatures. >> they have plummeted. it is much colder than

yesterday. much of the area down by five to ten degrees. six degrees colder than yesterday. 18 degrees with the wind out of the west it feels like seven degrees. so it feels similar to yesterday, but the temperatures are lower. it's 15 in wilmington. plenty of cold to go around this morning. we'll see sunshine to start with, but it's not going to last wt 18 degrees at 6:00. here come the clouds as we head into the afternoon. it will be a bit warmer this afternoon, but it should stay below freezing. 27 degrees at noon time. we'll go through the forecast in ten minutes. now we have a look at your friday commute in we are watching the expressway. we have some construction there with a lane lost. you can see we are still open. these are cameras around 24th street on the overpass. a few vehicles pulled over to

the shoulder, but that's definitely something to watch out for, but that's on the vine street expressway. the vine is okay. we do mention that underground fire on walnut street. that is closed between 19th street and 22th. follow the details. because of the fires it did effect us this morning. you will be okay heading out of the day. >> let's talk more about that. crews have been working in the bitter cold to clean up a mess in center city. a fire caused evacuations near 21th and walnut. what's happening now? >> reporter: not a good morning for us because it is so cold those workers all wearing heavy gear here at the corner of 22th and walnut street. they're still working where the flames eruptd.

power is still coming back. we've seen some lights start to turn on, but the outages are around 100 about a quarter of where they were last night. you can hear that blast, a fire forcing evacuations for all the people living here last night. some stood out for hours before finding a new place to stay. they watched it from the sidewalk. we checked this morning right now damaged underground cable that appears to have failed here and those lines led to a transformer. we've seen the workers down near that manhole over there. they have been getting into their trucks to try to take some breaks and warm up. it's only gotten colder since we've been out here. we're told they're rushing to try to get this road open because it is a busy one for the morning commute, but again they still have to make sure it's safe for cars to drive down here again. it's 4:03 and 17 degrees.

ursinus has closed today. a stomach virus has spread across campus. many students are going home for the weekend to get away from the germs. it's being spread person to person. >> when something occurs with a particular pattern that this one has, it's probably a virus and the most leading cause is a virus. >> a lot of people are getting sick and both my roommates are sick and i think they're going home this weekend. >> the college reopened the dining hall after the health department completed its inspection and gave its approval. regular classes will resume on monday. the investigation into the nightclub fight is now centered around this video. take a look.

influencer.com shot this video on wednesday night. it quoted him as saying i made a mistake, but his lawyer said his words were actually i will make a statement. tmz release in the this video of the broul inside the nightclub in center city. they subpoenaed any video they might have of the fight. he's success pepd of throwing purchases. no charges have been filed. this morning the police are looking for a woman who left her 3-year-old daughter behind after getting arrested for shoplifting. security officers at the store handcuffed the woman around 6:15 last night. she tried to steal about $1,400 worth of merchandise. she got ouft of the handcuffs and ran off. dhs now has custody of the child

she left behind. now that he's dropped out of the presidential race, governor chris christie is asking the federal government to help new jersey to pay for last month's winter storm. he says it cost $82 million to clean up. he asked for for relief for the counties. the call came after he made these controversial comments when asked why he wasn't home helping with clean up efforts. >> what do you want me to do, go down there with a mop? the fact -- >> governor christie made that remark while campaigning for president in new hampshire last month. a philadelphia judge has ruled that a group can move forward with their lawsuit to block the pipeline project. the gas company wants to build a pipe lane that would take the

the weekend we could see record temperatures. the first chance of snow will come this evening. right now 12 degrees in reading, 18 in philadelphia. everybody is colder than yesterday. we will see sunshine to start with. once it's up, it will be bright, clouds will be moving in during the day and that will lead to the chance of some snowshowers tonight. this morning you have to deal with the cold. bundle up. there's a little bit of wind blowing. it's enough to make a few locations feel like they're below zero, it feels like 8 degrees in northeast philadelphia, six in wilmington. it's a buttleds up kind of morning and you'll have to keep layering up over the weekend. this morning completely dry. doesn't look like we'll see a repeat of the snowshowers this morning, but this afternoon it's a different story. we'll see some snowshowers blowing into the area this evening and into tonight. during the day today you're neighborhood by neighborhood forecast calling for a warm up,

it's like to run for president. you have all thecampaigns. these items that mark what it's like to be president, run for president, what the campaigns are like and really all about the political parties and some very nice historical perspective. you have facts along the wall. look at some video from yesterday, the ribbon cutting happened and we saw children and vips come in and get the first experience of this exhibit. this is very important of course because we're talking about the political convention and i'll have more on that coming up in the next hour and we have a big one, the democratic convention coming to philadelphia in july. as we come back out live, one of the big things you can do here, you can give a stump speech. so over here i'll have my photographer come and take a look at this and you can either be kennedy or regan.

doing anything outdoors is going to require layering up this morning and this weekend you'll really have to pile on the layers. it's going to get very cold. right now the wind has died down. it's not as windy as yesterday, bult it is colder this morning. 18 degrees currently in philadelphia where the airport is reporting a nine mile an hour wind. it feels like seven degrees below zero. scattered clouds have taken a break this morning. they'll be back this afternoon. with those clouds we could run into some snow this evening. at 4:00 this afternoon, 27 degrees in philadelphia. stay below freezing through the day. we're watching these snowshowers during the late afternoon hours. at 9:00 some light snow moving through allentown and those showers will be on the move. they start to fall apart at 11:00 tonight and then they really fall apart into early

part of tomorrow morning. but first thing tomorrow morning we could see scattered snowshowers and once they pull out the winds bring in the cold. 9:00 tomorrow morning is a degrees. today wind is not that bad, but it is cold. clouds increase. so does the temperatures. winds below ten miles an hour. colder air will impact your weekend. winds gusting to 45 miles an hour on saturday. we could start at 21 degrees during the morning and plummet during the day, by late afternoon 19 degrees and it gets colder on sunday morning. it will drop into the single digits on sunday with the wind blowing sunday morning which is valen tien's day. it will feel like it's 20 degrees below zero. >> that's the coldest we've seen in a long time. >> yes.
