an equally giant crane. it is the aftermath of a storm that essentially cut the feasterville house in half, all pro telled by wind. >> it was getting harder and harder and hearder. and then boom, the tree went down. >> reporter: ray angle says he watched, but there was little he could do. >> i was standing back there. dummy. i should have moved out of the way. i was under the eve and it hit the corner and smashed everything down and went across the whole roof. >> reporter: two bedrooms and his son's apartment all crushed. the house uninhabitable. and the first of likely many nights in a hotel. >> it didn't hurt anybody. and it didn't hurt the dog. and it didn't cause any damage other than the house itself. i guess we were lucky. >> well, a restoration company still has to put a tarp over that roof with some rain expected this weekend. and ray angle says in talking to his insurance company, he expects to be out of his house a

good three to six months before he can move back in. live in feasterville, i'm doug shimell, nbc 10 news. >> all right. and more damage to show you. take a look at this. the scoreboard at gloucester city high school took a hit today. sky force 10 catching the aftermath of today's quick moving storm in camden county. and this is what it was like to drive on the schuylkill expressway around lunchtime. the windshield wipers couldn't move quickly enough. no matter where you live, you saw rain today. this afternoon, the rain let up quite a bit in delaware. drivers faced wet roads, but no major issues in new castle county. check out the high water in berwyn, chester county. the driver in this car needed to be rescued. >> nbc 10's mitch blacher has been up in sky force 10 for the past two hours looking for storm damage. >> mitch, what have you found? >> hey, jim and jacqueline, we're taking a look at some of the most dramatic cleanup that we have seen. just over bucks county.

this is a barn where at least half of the roof has been completely ripped off. it's getting a little dark. if we can zoom in a little bit, you can actually see the cows that are inside this barn, the roof pretty much half the roof ripped off. you can tell the power of the storm that came through here, bent sheet metals that piece of equipment tries to make a dent in what is no doubt going to be an enormous job. that's the latest from sky force 10. i'm mitch blacher with nbc 10 news. >> a lot of damage we have seen in the area this afternoon. the strong rain and the winds quickly moved out of the area. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz joins us now. glenn, the wind was so strong. the winds too. >> it was the wind that caused the greatest amount of damage. the force of the wind went -- the line of storms that was triggered was moves so fast. 60 plus miles an hour.

an indication that you've got winds a few thousand feet above the ground that are that strong. made it down to the surface, and knocked over those trees and caused all that damage. it doesn't take much more than a 60-mile-per-hour wind gust to cause the kind of damage that mitch has been showing all afternoon. the live radar showing there is nothing left on it. but there sure was earlier today. that's right around noontime. that line is what triggered all of that damage that you saw. and all in a matter of minutes, most likely, as it raced through the area and it is long gone now. the wind is diminished. as the line moved through, the reports of the wind damage came in. each one of those dots indicate a report of very strong winds or wind damage. and we still have a little bit of flooding in parts of the area until tuesday at 7:15. the temperatures dropping. but not drastically. not close to seeing any kind of

icing around the area. but as we head toward day break, there could be some patchy, icy spots. it's cooling off now. it's going to warm up as we head toward the weekend. we'll show you those numbers with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> if you have the nbc 10 app, you receive messages alerting you of the severe weather this afternoon. make sure you are not caught off guard. download that nbc 10 app now. embattled pennsylvania attorney kathleen kane says he have l not seek reelection as attorney general. she made that announcement from her office today. kane says she made it her mission to, quote, clean up harrisburg, and the announcement did not address the ongoing criminal case against her. kane has had her law license suspended after she was charged in connection with a grand jury leak. prosecutors say she lied under oath. >> you are facing criminal charges. your campaign cannot raise the money that you need to run and to defend these charges as well? >> today's decision is about family. >> nbc 10 saturday down there

with kane after the announcement. kane says even without a law license, her days at work haven't changed. she said she will return to being a stay-at-home mom to her two boys who are now in junior high and high school. now mopping up what they call a mess in trenton. protesters carried the mops before governor chris christie's budget address. they wanted to draw attention to the governor's comments last month. >> i don't know what you expect me to do. you want me to go down there with a mop? >> christie made the meant to a woman who asked why he was campaigning in new hampshire rather than helping with flooding in new jersey. christie suspended his run for president last week. today the governor delivered his budget without raising taxes. south bureau reporter cydney long reports from trenton. >> reporter: it is his second to last budget proposal. the governor says new jersey will spend 1 billion more to the tune of $38.8 million to conduct state business in fiscal 2016.

>> our state has to be ready to weather the economic storms as well as the actual storms. >> reporter: it's the real storms hurricane sandy and most recently christie's campaign trail comments about january flooding at the shore that had protesters mopping the seal on the state house steps. including lisa stevens who is still not back in her home. >> thousands of us after sandy picked up a mop. we had no choice. we had a lot to clean up. we made a promise he wasn't going anywhere until he finished the job. we're asking the governor finish the job. >> we will solve it. >> reporter: christie released somewhat of a comeback video on youtube after bowing out of the presidential race last week. >> he acts very well. you know, maybe there is a role for him in hollywood somewhere. >> reporter: tony covington wants the pension payments to be mandated by a ballot referendum and constitutional amendment. christie isn't buying it. >> if you were going to write a lay book about how to wreck the economy we just talked about that is at its strongest point in 15 years and divide the state

between the haves and the have-nots, this would be the perfect zript to do it. >> reporter: he says the state will pay $1.9 billion to the pension fund and lawmakers will explore tax fairness to replenish the state's transportation trust fund. >> there is no money for our schools. there are no money for our roads. >> i don't really trust governor christie on budgets. >> reporter: christie also spoke about an historic investment in this agreement, promising over $100 million to go towards substance abuse and mental health. he says to save lives and cut down on er visits. from trenton, i'm cyndey long, nbc 10 news. the democrats said they wanted to set the record straight soon after governor christie spoke. assembly speaker vincent prieto said christie's message was misleading. >> you talk about accomplishment, sometimes you forget about talking about some of the other things. i did hear a lot of things about hopefully poverty and helping people. but he neglected also to say under his watch, we have the

most amount of children in poverty, over 800,000. >> preto says he is ready to work together with the governor and republicans to tackle some of the state's biggest problems. police in bucks county have a mystery on their hands after a woman was found dead on the side of a road. not yet clear how her body ended up along the road in bensalem. but investigators tell us they do not believe she was hit bay car. they say there are no obvious signs of trauma. we'll stay on top of this story and bring you updates as we get them. gunfire in center city. right now police are searching for the shooter. a man in a black mask walked up to two men standing on the corner of 15th and locust at 1:00 this morning. he shot one of them in the arm. a police officer drove the victim to the hospital. he is in critical condition. next on "nbc 10 news at 6:00," a packed house. hoping for lottery luck. parents aren't winning money. why there are plenty of cheers and tears for the school. also, a call for change

>> new at 6:00, a delaware teacher used her nose to help sniff out a gun brought to school. the teacher in newark high school says she smelled marijuana near a student today, so she sent the boy to the office. that's where they found drugs and a loaded gun. the gun was hidden in his sneaker. no one was hurt. some security council member -- some security council members want to make sure your kids are wearing helmets and other safety gear while riding hover boards. today a committee passed a bill that would make it a requirement. councilman william greenly calls it a first step. it still must pass the full council. miss america is staying put in the garden state. >> the pageant will remain in atlantic city for at least three more years. a new jersey redevelopment agency is footing the bill, having proved an $11.9 million deal today. that's $4 million more than the previous contract. the pageant began in ac way back in 1921. it moved to las vegas for six years before returning in 2013.

local parents feel like they won a competition. 8,000 applications, and just 99 spots for a philadelphia charter school. >> live at the mast charter school. >> why are so many parents trying to get their kids into this one school, lauren? >> reporter: well, i toured this school today, and i can tell you, it is pretty impressive. and this is a big day for a lot of these families. some of them come back here year after year, hoping to get good news. and for the younger ones, as one dad pointed out, this is potentially 12 years of education. >> this is like before you go on the tower of terror. >> reporter: nerves in the hushed room as mast community charter school. the winners of this lottery get to go to school at a place where even youngsters learn technology and robotics. we spotted this family right away. >> the best school. the best school ever. we're happy, right?

happy tears. very, very happy tears. my sister is crying her eyes out. she doesn't even believe me. >> reporter: it's her niece to who got in. >> it's the best school. it's a great school. the teachers, the environment. like i said, my brother graduated from here. he was on national honor society. >> reporter: not everyone got good news. so how are you feeling? >> okay. >> reporter: disappointed? >> yeah, we got her enrolled in another school. but we really wanted to come here. >> this dad knows what it's like. >> it hasn't worked until this year. i don't know what else to say. it's great. it's fantastic. >> reporter: what does it feel like when you didn't get in? >> it's been a hard walk out that door. >> reporter: there were a lot of long faces today. some of them did not want to talk to us. they were very disappointed. but for families who did not get good news tonight, there is some hope. this charter school is opening a second location. and there will be a lottery for that on march 1.

live in northeast philadelphia, i'm lauren make, nbc 10 news. now to the latest in the case against bill cosby. a montgomery county judge denied a motion filed by bill cosby's lawyers. the comedian's attorneys asked that a pint of law be decided before the case moved forward. the judge ruled that was unnecessary. that means cosby's preliminary hearing in his sexual assault case will go forward. he is due in court march 8th. back to today's extreme weather. this guy picked the wrong day to forget his umbrella. he had to brave the elements in trenton this afternoon. even with protection from the rain, the strong winds didn't make it easy out there. i saw a lot of damaged umbrellas right in the trash bin. >> mine kind of flipped inside out. >> it happened to a lot of people. wild 48 hours of weather. >> chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz here with more. >> we sure have had a lot of action in the weather department in the last 24 hours. we got snow. we had ice. we had rain.

and then we had those strong gusty winds. they got, well, they got hit hard in the poconos. this is shawnee. they got rain. they got warm weather, nasty. but they're going to start making snow again tonight. and they'll be back for the weekend. we had some damage today. we had some flooding today. but nothing too widespread. cooler days are ahead until we get to the weekend. and then it's going to get kind of warm for this time of the year. beautiful end to the day. the visibility a whole lot better than yesterday. 47 degrees. the wind 17, gusting to 31 miles per hour. so it's still pretty windy out there. it's 18 degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday when were struggling to see the temperature rise to turn the freezing rain into regular rain. 39 in lancaster. 34 in mount pocono. getting close to the level where they can start making snow again. and we're in the 40s elsewhere. 49 in atlantic city.

the warm spot. and we're going to see temperatures lower than that over the next couple of days. the west wind has come in. that's drying us out after that line of heavy showers moved through. 31-mile-per-hour wind gusts in philly. 20 to 25 elsewhere. this is that line. and you can see it pretty much went through our entire area. that means not just everybody saw rain, but everybody saw a gusty wind too. it's just a question of how gusty it was. that line was just racing through here. 60 plus miles an hour. and that can lead to 60 plus-mile-an-hour winds. we've got known on radar now. but look at this. perkiomen creek in oaks. one of our viewers. just raging out there. as a result of just a couple of three hours of heavy rain. and that kind of flow of the water, that is so dangerous to be in.

whether it's a person or a car, just can't handle it. there is so much force involved there. the temperatures tonight going down below the freezing mark. there will be some icy patches, some areas especially north and west. then tomorrow we warm up into the 40s. so it's not all that cold. and a little bit breezy. but not as windy as today. then tomorrow night, it gets colder. and thursday is the coldest day that we're going to see for a while. 33 for the low tonight in philadelphia. 29 north and west. and it's dry. tomorrow a breezy day. temperatures near average for this time of the year. mix of sun and clouds. another nice day to dry out. a little colder on thursday. and a cold start to friday. but not too bad the afternoon. chance of a couple of showers late in the day. that's not a real wet weather-maker there. and look at the weekend, saturday, 59 degrees.
