bullets. >> we heard a lot of shots. >> reporter: everyone in the altown housing complex heard the gun battle. >> real terrifying, i had my grandson with me and we were scared. >> reporter: the man detectives were serving a warn for opened fire, hitting one officer in the arm. the suspect was also hit. he was a suspect in the murder of a woman found sunday in a small blue recycling bin, barely two blocks away. >> used to walk up my street every day. >> reporter: the neighbor had an uneasy feeling about walt somewhere the woman he called rose when he didn't see them together. >> she always had black slacks on and black and white sneakers on, but here when he said she was in the dumpster, they said black and white nikes, that hit me in the head. >> we're so thankful this morning this officer is safe. >> reporter: allentown mayor says the officer is out of the

county. david pachecho runs a towing business. they found him with nearly $1 million of heroin during a traffic stop last night. they announced his arrest this afternoon. on display, drugs, cash, old car battery. he hid the heroin if that battery. he's accused of traveling to atlanta to get the drugs and selling the drugs in new york. he is locked up on $1 million bail this afternoon. i'm denise nakano, nbc 10 news. >> investigators say a philadelphia police detective kill kicked and broke a man's leg as he was escorting him oust a police station. the d.a. filed assault charges against adam o'donnell. after he kicked the man he dropped him off in hunting park. the police department suspended o'donnell and intends to dismiss him. new information on the investigation into the death of a woman whose body was found along a bucks county road.

a man under arrest after he dumped the body there. eric finnegan charged with abuse of a corps. he confessed to leaving the body along mill road in ben salem. authorities found her body yesterday morning. then say she had overdosed on drugs at a home in philadelphia and funny began drove her body to bucks county. one philadelphia neighborhood is stepping up theest to keep public school public. >> our city. >> whose school? >> our school. >> parents, teachers and local leaders rallying outside the school in germantown. the district cancelled a plan to make it a charter school after it determined the school made significant improvements. educators say it's a matter of resources. >> we are tired of our schools being underresourced and at kblt system that's been devised that is being used to shut down the

schools after they've been underresourced, and they say the churn are not doing well. >> the school district is still moving forward to convert two other underperforming schools under charters. the battle on whether you can bet on sports in new jersey is back in court. making their case before a federal appeals court. voters approved sports gambling several years ago but the lawsuits filed by the ncaa and the four major professional sport leagues have delayed it. it's a tax battle coming down to the wire. bo borgata owes $7 million cash. atlantic city owes borgata $170 million in tax appeals. the judge says the casino doesn't have to pay until it gets its money. atlantic city doesn't have the cash and is in danger of declaring bankruptcy. >> along the delaware coast, the

governor is checking on the work to restore the dunes after strong storms and nor'easters washed away a lot of the sand. the state is filing a disaster declaration to president obama, asking for about 2.5 million. mayor of dewey expects all beaches to be ready for the summer tourist season. a court clash. apple claims could breach the privacy of millions of iphone users. >> a judge ordered apple to help the fbi by unlocking the phone used by a suspected terrorist but apple is taking a stand. back to nbc 10's denise nakano. >> following the story in our digital operations center. >> apple is fiercely opposing that judge's order. she told the company to help unlock the iphone used by farook. the fbi doesn't know his pass code. they killed 14 people last december.

are looking for this woman who swiped two packages off of someone's front steps the crooks struck yesterday at a home on east durham street in east mt. airy. the suspect seen driving way in early to mid-2000 volvo station wagon. >> a business is to blame for a series of tremors that sent shockwaves through a lehigh valley neighborhood. iesi bethlehem landfill, investigators revealed a malfunctioning system there was responsible for several minutes of shaking that caused homes around it to rattle. the landfill says things are running the way they should now and never a threat to the pub li limb. pat issue is whether the stores can sell beer and gasoline without violating state law. the beer distributors say it does. pennsylvania's supreme court has agreed to take up the case. a wawa could start selling beer.

concord township gave the store the go-ahead but wawa needs state approvapproval. only a dozen businesses that have gas pumps sell beer in pennsylvania. a new service is changing the way the region gets everything to and from mexico. first time ever cargo ships are traveling directly from two ports in the gulf of mexico to the packer avenue marine terminal south philadelphia. governor tom wolf in philadelphia to tout the new service. until now companies relied on trucks to cross the border and deliver goods but boat delivery is cheaper and quicker, and the government hopes that will mean fresh somewhere less expensive products for the consumer. caitlyn jenner coming to the university of pennsylvania tonight. jenner will take part in an hour-long discussion and question and answer session at the irvine auditorium at 8:00. pulitzer prize winning writer buzz bisinger will moderate.

until we go way back to northwestern pennsylvania and snow showers don't look like they're making it. we're clearing out tonight and that's going to allow temperatures to go into the 20s. anything that melted during the day today can refreeze tonight. could be some icy spots in some places. and then during the day tomorrow we don't warm up a lot. we're still in the 30s. even with sunshine and a bit of a wind. we warm up big time over the weekend and then next week then we're going to be looking at storm developing near the coast. now there's one of the cases where it's not real cold ahead of the storm. so it makes it hard to be a pure snowstorm especially near the coast. so the track is yet to be determined. a lot of moisture and some point west of the storm track there's going to be snow. so that's the next thing to be watching for as far as anything

they serve the the community, and now the community is giving back. >> skyforce 10 live over the boy's club in philadelphia yesterday. a storm ripped off pieces of the roof and left water damage inside. >> now they're getting help to clean up the mess. deanna durante live with an update. >> reporter: maybe the help was easy to come by to clean up. repair work, it's going to be more expensive. kids have taken to the rink here to be able to start playing hockey. 24 hours after that storm damaged the boy's club.

>> reporter: they are cold, wet, and dirty. ripping gutters, cutting tarps and slicing up what's left of the roof. >> when i got here yesterday it was pretty much in shock. >> reporter: minutes before the club was to open for kids when hard rains and winds it ore the roof off. >> a lot of damage. >> reporter: inside is drying out. the outside a muddy mess filled with plywood, tin, tar paper. >> our home away from home, our other family. we live here when not at home. it's sad. >> reporter: those with day off spent it here. those ripped and tossed the degree. support surprising. some long left the club behind. others bring their kids here. within hours a go fund me page set up, but donations are not what the club needs. one that relies on volunteers
