alert meteorologist sheena parveen tracking a drop in temperatures tonight. >> a mixed bag. we've seen serious up and downs in temperatures. >> we have more changes coming tonight, tomorrow, and into the weekend. it's not going to be a steady weather pattern as we go into the weekend. one thing mostly dry. right now nice and dry across the area. snow showers through central p.a., maybe flurries could make it into the poconos. majority of all of that will be staying away from the area. temperatures, though, decent today. but with the wind, it has been making it feel close to freezing for part of the area. 40, philadelphia. 37 allentown and redding. 41 millville and wildwood. winds lighten up and clouds will clear. that means we'll get colder. colder tonight. this will go into tomorrow. for the rest of the even, 7:00 p.m., 38 around the philadelphia area, cole, breezy. closer to 11:00, freezing. clouds clear out. tomorrow, notice more in the way

of sunshine. but you will be waking up to temperatures in the 20s tomorrow. talking about a nice warm-up if we go into the weekend and possibly snow next week. details straight ahead. remember this mess in delaware? last month major storm wiped out several beaches. today, nbc 10 got a firsthand look as first aid looks to repair sand dunes. tim furlong live in dewey beach. are crews making any progress on repairs? >> reporter: i think they're making a lot of progress. i was down here a few weeks ago, the beach used to have a big dip where water sat. now the sand slopes up to what was the dune. there needs to be a lot of work done here. now the governor's asking the president to chip in. mother nature beat the delaware beaches up during the recent blizzard and other storms but now she's slowly bringing sand

back, heavy machinery's helping her get the job done much quicker to get beaches ready in time for summer. >> if we didn't have the beach it would affect the economy, the state, and sussex county. >> reporter: the beach towns are important to delaware's economy and that's why today the governor announced he's filing a disaster declaration, asking the president for $2.5 million to fix dune walkways, boardwalks and public spots that took the damage. >> at first, we thought the damage might not be sufficiently high in order to actually request the declaration. but once we did the work, we saw the damage, you know, you look at rehoboth and see damage to the boardwalk and places you say, if the resources are there we need to apply for it. >> reporter: machines will be back at work tomorrow. state and army corps of engineers working on the beach replenishment. the federal disaster money will go towards nonsand repairs.

everyone's hoping it will be done before memorial day. tim furlong, nbc 10. >> governor tom wolf speaking out about kathleen kane's decision not to seek a second term as attorney general. kane made the announcement yesterday. the announcement did not address the ongoing criminal case. kane had her law license suspend after charged with a grand jury leak. prosecutors say she lied under oath. governor wolf agrees with kane's decision. >> i applaud her making that announcement. i thought she should resign, i said that from the beginning. so she can take time to defend herself against the charges. >> to see if kane should be impeached is under way in the state house. a dlthree-day murder investigation ends in barrage of gunfire and an officer shot. a suspect fired at the officers, hitting one in the arm. the detectives shot the suspect.

that suspect was wanted in connection with the murder of a woman found in a recycling bin two blocks away. neighbors would see the suspect and the victim walking together but had not seen the woman in the past few days. >> when she used to walk she always had black slacks on and black and white sneakers on, i noticed. when they said she's in the dumpster, they said black and white nikes that hit me in the head, i said, that couldn't be that girl, you know. here it was. >> the injured officer is expected to be okay. the suspect is in police custody at an allentown hospital. skyforce 10 over the scene of what is now a deadly shooting in bucks county. 20-year-old robert colter shot near the intersection of bath road and buckley street in bristol 8:00 last night. he died at noon today. police say several people were involved in the shooting. so far, no arrests.

the two men got into some kind of argument before the shooting. brown died at the hospital. >> pope francis wrapping up his visit to mexico. today, francis visited a prison. he told inmates gathered in the chapel they cannot undo the past. the pope makes a point of going to prisons on every foreign trip. he visited philadelphia's facility this past september. today's events cap off the five-day visit to mexico. here at home, mayor jim kenney talked about bringing more foreign business to philadelphia. one part of the business growth outline. kenny wants to lower wage and business taxes, and attract more minority and women-owned business. >> a keep part of attracting new jobs and businesses lies in building an economy in which everyone can participate regardless of race, or i begin

>> reporter: absolutely. one of great things about growing up in philadelphia, the natural rivalries with great schools around here. and this is a great one. temple and villanova. of course the first time ever the first season villanova has been number one in the country in the a.p. poll, and temple is playing their best basketball of the season. so a lot on the line tonight. as you said, it is sold out. take a look, about an hour ago, temple students already lining up outside, take a look, wearing their best out there. of course, dressing up like the pope, and fans are ready to get in here at 5:30. they want the best seats. this is huge for both teams. it the first time nova has been number one, temple, the only time they were number one was in 1988 and that's the last time they met, when one of them was number one. so it's going to be a huge atmosphere again tonight. the coaches know a lot is on the line. >> villanova's phenomenal basketball program. they have terrific talent, great

the plan highlights paris as it is today with cosmopolitan feel and youthful population. the bid includes $3.5 billion for infrastructure. existing stadiums, arenas and world-recognized landmarks are all on the bill. organizers trying to bring the games to italy made a similar bid. many of the requires sports facilities are already up and running and would only need upgrading. rome hosted the olympics in 196 on los angeles and buddapest making a bid. the vote will take some time in september. big mac, large fries and beer? >> it's happening but not here. mcdonald's franchise in south korea serving premium burgers and draft beer. the new restaurant will open near the capital city of seoul. the drinking age in south korea is 19. mcdonald's serves alcohol in part office the u.s. and europe.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> a nicer day today. nice and dry at least. when you compare it to the past two days, not too bad. breezy, though. as we go into tonight, it's going to get quite a bit colder in the 20s for the area the entire area. and then tomorrow, another cold day. but we go into the weekend and start to warm up. our warmer pattern returns. next week we go back down, we have a chance for snow. so kind of up and down, enjoy the weekend. by the time we get to next week we could be looking at a storm bringing snow. right now 30s north and west. 37 allentown and redding. 36 pottstown. 40 philadelphia. also ben salem. and most of south jersey and delaware around 40. all of the numbers dropping as we go through overnight hours. a lack at the time line. clouds around. clouds clearing. temperatures will be dropping.

by 11:00 p.m. we should be close to freezing in the philadelphia area. by 7:00 in the morning, temperatures will be in the 20s. so much colder start to your morning tomorrow and colder afternoon. right now dry. clouds around still. clearing out. snow showers up to the north and west. can't rule out flurries in the poconos later but majority of this is going to stay away. future weather, though. as we go through tonight, clouds clear out. tomorrow a colder day for the area. so we're talking about highs only in the 30s. compared to today, it's going to be colder. into friday, we'll see this high kind of move offshore, letting clouds move in. you will notice mitt romney clouds friday but could see late night rain showers, too. we'll be watching that. then we go into saturday, warm front. so our wind direction changes and that's going to give us a warmer start to the weekend. near 60 for saturday. it is a nice change. even sunday's going to be dry. next snow chance wouldn't come until tuesday into wednesday.

melting at the shore. the ice is thin, and deceiving across local lakes. roller coaster temperatures and the weekend's warpm-up have rescuers afraid. >> the warning crews want you to know about. >> reporter: along the frozen shores of the lake in hamilton township, atlanta county park ranger bill wilkinson is on ice alert. >> could go any time. >> reporter: after a deep freeze and warm-up, ice on this and other local lakes dangerously thin. >> kids may want to play, that's why it's here. >> the fear mild temperatures bring them out after school. >> reporter: the dive team chief worries children won't realize how weak the ice has become. his team routinely trains for rescues on the lake. >> this is melting quickly. this is not going to hold more

will be nice and dry. we do have a chance for snow as we go into next week. i'll show you that chance and what you may be able to expect straight ahead. it's one of the largest heroin busts in the history of montgomery county. the operator of a towing business accused of smuggle drugs in his car battery. jacqueline do jacqueline london joining us now. >> as you said, it is being called the largest heroin bust in montgomery county ever. david pachecho runs a towing business. authorities found him with nearly $1 million worth of heroin during a traffic stop last month. they announced his arrest and on display were some items seized. talking drugs, cash, and old car battery. investigators say pachecho hid the heroin inside that battery. >> it was hidden in a

retrofitted car battery that, despite concealing three kilos of heroin, still powered his truck. >> accused of traveling to atlanta to get the drugs, then selling drugs in new york. he's locked up on a million dollars bail. jacqueline london, nbc 10 news. happening now, cleanup continues at holmesburg boys club in philadelphia. helping pick up after a storm ripped pieces of the roof off. tarps were secured to cover gaps and keep the inside of the building dry. a go fund me page raised around $7,000 to help with repairs. a chester county man is behind bars accused of a vicious valentine's day attack on his wife and her wcousin. he stabbed her cousin over and

efforts to keep the public school public. parents, teachers and leaders rallied outsite the school in germanton. the district cancelled aplan to make it a charter school after it determined the school made significant improvements. educators say it's a matter of resources. >> we are tired of our schools being underresourced and accountability system that's been devised that is being used to shut down the schools after they have been under resourced and say that the children are not doing well. >> the school district is moving forward to convert two other underperforming schools into charters. >> bruce jenner once known as the world's greatest athlete. jenner has come a long way since winning the gold medal in the men's decathlon in 1976 olympics. formerly known as bruce, caitlyn jenner the face of the

this is nbc 10 news. an estimated 40 million americans owe student loan debt. a team of u.s. marshals arrested a human man because he had not repaid 29-year-old student loan. paul acres was handcuffed and shackled. he was briefly put in a cell before being brought before a judge who ordered him to pay over time $5700 to cover the loan and unpaid interest. >> so unrealestic that you can treat a citizen as if he's a drug dealer. >> people in debt shouldn't be afraid u.s. marshals are going to kick their door down. this was an extreme case escalated by mr. akres.

>> they said he refused multiple requests to appear in court dating back to 2012. new information tonight in the case of a man charged with killing an nba player's father. karl white pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the shooting death of 57-year-old wade ellington sr., he was found dead in 2014. the victim's son plays for the brooklyn nets. white will spend between 30 to 60 years in prison. to decision 2016. the latest polls in south carolina showed jeb bush bunched tightly with other candidates vying for second place in the primary. a state republican poll shows donald trump with 33% among likely voters, florida senator marco rubio and texas senator ted cruz tied with 14%. jeb bush on their heels with 13%. nevada holds its democratic caucus saturday. a cnn/orc survey founds 48%
