explet tick and which feelings were hurt. the school district said a teacher received an the e-mail from an outside source and mistakenly attached it to an e-mail addressed to parents. the school sent an e-mail issuing an apology. the corrected e-mail supposed to have been sent out this afternoon. we talked to parents offcamera. they said it was a big mistake they don't believe a reflection of the school. some even thought the e-mail was funny. andrea klein thomas. >> an allentown police officer shot while serving a warrant. the officer is out of the hospital and suspect linked to a woman's murder earlier in the week. >> doug shimell spoke to the mayor who talked to the officer today. live in allentown. >> reporter: the mayor says he was in good spirits, surrounded by a lot of his colleagues, and expected to make that full

recovery. right now, crews continue to board up the windows of the housing authority unit that were shot out during a gun battle that brought a murder investigation to a close. >> reporter: gunfire came from inside the apartment as detective is came to serve a warn tuesday night allentown police say one of their own was hit in the arm as they returned fire. >> individual went inside. >> did receive wounds from the exchange of fire and after a brief stand-off, able to secure him inside the apartment. >> reporter: always spec in the murder of a woman found stuffed inside a recycling container. >> see the guy by himself, first time without the girl. >> reporter: tom says he would see the suspect and the victim walking to the store almost every day. she always wore black pants and black and white sneakers. >> when they said she was in the dumpster, they said black and white nikes, that hit me in the head like i said, you know what?

that couldn't be that girl, you know? here it was. >> reporter: tiffany johnson can see that blue recycling bin from her apartment. >> i'm glad that it did wrap up quickly and they got him, i was shocked. >> reporter: neighbors next to the couple say they did not see things ending in a gun battle. >> something like that, you never expect those things from neighbors anyway. >> reporter: the district attorney is reviewing evidence from this scene as well as the other scene before a list of charges are released. doug shimell, nbc 10 news. a philadelphia detective once shot in the line of duty is behind bars. the detective kicked and broke a man's leg as he escorted him out of a police station. the d.a. filed assault charges against adam o'donnell. after heic canned the man he dropped him off along the road in hunting park. the police department suspended o'donnell and intents to dismiss

him. o'donnell was shot in the stomach back in 2011. a few months later he was honored by the department. >> cleanup, 24 hours after a violent storm moved through parts of our area. the roof of the boys club in holmsburg was ripped off. a member of the community who once used the facility as a child came back to lend a helping hand. deanna durante live with his story. >> take a look. some kids here able to get back inside and play hockey. tonight, though, the future of what's going to happen to their hockey league right now is up in the air. >> george remembers when this picture was taken. >> 8, 10 years old. >> reporter: he gets choked up. >> team is awesome. >> reporter: back the boys club today. >> people are caring less and they're not -- not doing what they need to be doing.

looks kind of threatening but we keep looking at the radar, waiting for something. but it's not there. there's just not enough moisture overall in the atmosphere. enough in a certain layer to produce clouds but takes more than that to produce rain or snow. it's 40 degrees in philadelphia now. 36 degrees in platstown and allentown and lancaster. 37 in redding and atlantic city. with the cloud cover temperature does not go down fast. so we're going to be getting down to the freezing mark in philadelphia by 2:00 a.m. you can see the skies clear, wind diminishing somewhat. but the temperatures are really going to be going up as we head toward the weekend. we'll see how warm that's going to be and if it's going to stay dry with the seven day if a few minutes. now to decision 2016, the past hour, a new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll shows ted

cruz overtaking donald trump for the lead nationwide. this just days before the south carolina primary. meanwhile today, ted cruz went on the offensive and challenged donald trump's threats. >> even in the annals of frivolous lawsuits this takes the cake. so, donald, i would encourage you, if you want to file a lawsuit, challenging this act, claiming it is defamation, file the lawsuit. >> the threat of the lawsuit over a campaign ad that shows donald trump's support for abortion rights. donald trump was not going to remain silent long. trump threatened again to sue cruz but he did not say if he will actually file a lawsuit. trump told a crowd that the u.s. needs tougher interrogation techniques. the republican front-runner says torture works and wants to bring back waterboarding. this picture on twitter created a firestorm. jeb bush posted a picture of a

gun with the word "america" and the gun had his name on. the post was retweeted thousands of times. for campaigning the former florida governor plans to bring his mother to campaign in sshg tomorrow. the most coveted endorsement in south carolina. marco rubio picked it up. nikki haley will endorse the florida senator at an event that started a few minutes ago. john kasich told a crowd he predicts he will surprise people on saturday. the ohio governor says people don't expect him to do squat and he predicts he'll do better than squat. kasich told voters to spread the word and call friends. he finished second in new hampshire last week. this afternoon, a new monmouth university poll came out for likely voters for the saturday's republican primary. donald trump received 35%, ted cruz 19%, rubio, kasich, bush and carson. on the democratic side, hillary clinton campaigned today in

chicago and took a jab at bernie sanders. clinton vowed to fight for gun safety reform. the former secretary of state criticized bernie sanders for calling president obama weak and dis disappointing. clinton plans to bill on the progress of the president's accomplishmentsen a new cnn poll shows clinton and sanders tied in nevada nevada caucuses are three days away. >> a big economic boom coming to philadelphia. new hotels. a live look at philly today where mayor jim kenney announced ten new hotels built in the next two years. the mayor addressed the greater philadelphia chamber of commerce one of the highlights he lied out in his report how philadelphia will cash in on the export business. dredging of the delaware that will help unlock port's ability to trade. new development plans for civil developer at the jersey shore. the atlantic city council voting it give the green light to redevelop the garden pier, that

pier was damaged by a storm. directly across from the showboat casino. flatstein recently bought the closed property. new at 6:00 the woman sentenced to jailed time for beating of a gay couple is appealing that sentence. nbc 10 news learned katharine knott is asking a judge to reconsider her sentence of video partially captured the 2014 attack in center city. witnesses say knott threw a punch and two men plead guilty and were sentenced to probation. gas station thieves filled up seven times in less than three weeks in the northeast. it wasn't gas. they got smokes. the most recent heist yesterday morning. three guys break the windows and helped themselves to the cigarettes. no one was hurt in any of the cases. next on nbc 10 news at 6:00, kilos of heroin hidden inside car batteries. a big drug bust that stretches up and down the coast.

governors teamed up in an effort to reopen the investigation into the deaths of a prominent south jersey couple. >> friends of john and joyce sheridan, they wrote a letter requesting the death certificate changed and case reopened. the couple found dead in 2014 after a fire. the prosecutor found john killed his wife and then killed himself. but friends and family questioned the autopsy. john sheridan was an executive at cooper university health systems. the battle over whether to bet on sports in new jersey is back in court today. attorneys for the state made their case before federal appeals court. new jersey voters approved sports gambling at casinos and racetracks several years ago but lawsuits filed by the ncaa and the four major professional sports leagues have delayed. it's one of the largest heroin busts in history of montgomery county. the operator 0 of of a towing business accused of running heroin up and down the east coast by smuggling drugs in his car battery.

david pachecho owns a towing business. authorities found him with nearly $1,000 of heroin last month. they announced his arrest this afternoon, and on display some of the items seized. drugs, cash, and an old car battery. investigators say pachecho hid the heroin in that battery. our recent major winter storm didn't just affect the jersey shore but made a lasting image on delaware beaches as well. >> nbc 10 got a firsthand look. tim furlong reports. >> reporter: delaware governor had his shoes in the sand today, watching the heavy machinery continue to repair the beaches and dunes damaged in the recent storms. he announced a disaster declaration. asking the president to send $2.5 million. the governor says it was time to ask for help. >> it's a matter 0 of math. we hit the target. >> reporter: the federal money

will help repair damaged walkways, buckled sections of boardwalk and other spots. delaware relies on the beach towns and tourism dollars they generate. >> there is affects the economy of the entire state, people that live west of here, work here, carpenters, cleaning people, real estate agents. >> reporter: the dunes plight not be at full strength by p memorial day but the beaches should be in good shape. of course another big storm could slow down the progress. >> i don't know if it's next year or two years from now, we'll have another and we get as ready as we can. >> reporter: you find a gentle sloping beach that goes up to the dunes but i'm told mother nature's going to keep pushing naturally up. everyone's hoping the beaches are ready for memorial day. tim furlong, nbc 10 news. >> now, your nbc 10 news first

alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >>, everybody in delaware and around this portion of the country's looking for any possibilities for future storms coming in over the next several days. now, we do have the possibility of a storm coming as we go into next week, but that is a different issue. we have a coastal storm with temperatures or kind of marginal for this time of the year. sometimes we start talking about storms a little bit ahead of time. yeah, there's likely to be a storm. but we still have to watch for any kind of cool weather. it's going to warm up over the weekend. so it's a little bit premature to be too concerned about what some computer models are saying for next week.

we do have a warm weekend that is on the way and that storm next week that done look like it going to affect the east coast but questions related to it. we have the traffic moving along very nicely compared to the last couple of days. it was kind of rough. 40 degrees with the wind of 13 miles an hour. and the temperatures in the 30s to near 40 degrees now. 28 degrees in mt. pocono and 38 degrees in glassboro, mt. holly. 37 degrees in atlantic city. 41 in dover. we're going to be seeing colder air coming in. it's gradually going to cool down as we go through the night. by tomorrow morning, 28 in philadelphia. and lower, of course, in suburbs with just a little bit of wind. so it's chilly, it's going to be cole tomorrow and tomorrow night, too. then the warm-up. temperatures are colder than they were this time yesterday. and the clouds help keep the

temperature down during the day today. we've had no precipitation around. the radar showing a few snow flurries getting closer but they should be dying out as we get into the next several hours. temperatures going down below the freezing mark tonight. what melted today could freeze and so you get a few icy spots. and then temperature done go up much during the day tomorrow. this is that storm we're talking about. and it does look like it's going to affect the coast and jersey shore. this is not one of the cases where there's a lot of cold air at the start. so, there's going to have to be a way bring cold air into that storm. so what that means is the farther north and west, the better chance there will be of some sort of snow out of that storm next week. talking tuesday into wednesday. a long way away. 26 for a low in philadelphia. 21 north and west. clearing conditions tonight.

during the day tomorrow, cold day, plus breeze on top of that. that's colder than average for this time of year. seven-day forecast, friday a chance of a couple of showers late in the day or at night. look at that weekend. temperatures way up in the 50s to near 60 degrees. a chance of a couple of showers later sunday and into monday morning and then that storm coming up the coast tuesday into wednesday. i'm john clark here on temple's campus. getting hyped for villanova and temple. a preview coming up next.
