through. we thought it was an earthquake at first. >> reporter: the impact shattered the window at the bank where anthony had been at the atm. >> i walked out of the bank and then everything happened. >> reporter: kelly was keting her nails done. >> thank god the stairs are there or that was coming straight into the salon. >> reporter: she worried there might be kids on board so a lunch break turned into action. >> we came running out. a few of us came out and checked under the bus, nobody was there and no kids. >> reporter: no students were on board. in this chain of events more than a dozen people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. >> we have a school bus, a septa bus, a taxicab and several other vehicles. >> reporter: police are trying to piece together what happened but those inside are feeling lucky. >> i just thank god for taking care of me.

>> reporter: let's take a live look now from sky force 10. you can see what is happening around this area. traffic is getting by at this point, this was a big goal of emergency folks here on the scene. they wanted to make sure it was clear for rush hour. but as you can see those two lanes are still blocked on jfk at this hour. however, traffic should be able to get through hopefully as this progress continues, those lanes will also open up to make it a little easier for folks to get by. live in center city, lauren mayk, "nbc 10 news." the pope is told that don at trump is not a nice person. >> this afternoon it's trump versus the pope in an unexpected battle between the presidential candidate and the popular leader of the roman catholic church. the republican candidate is not backing down, nbc 10's rosemary connors is following the story from our digital operation center.

forget about trump's comments about ted cruz lately. this is going global. >> absolutely. it began with pope francis taking questions on his plane on his way back from mexico. he was asked about donald trump and some of his recent remarks, here's part what if the pontiff said through the voice after translator. >> a person who thinks only about building walls wherever they may be and not building bridges is not christian. >> it did not take long for trump to fire back his response came minutes later. >> for a religious leader to question a person's faith is disgraceful. i'm proud to be a christian, and as president i will not allow christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened unlike what is happening now with our current president. >> trump has promised to build a wall along the mexican border from texas to california, if he is elected president. the hope has said that he did not want to advise american

bundled up enjoying the afternoon at miles park. cold weather is good news for camelback mountain. it means they can make snow for all of the skiers and snow borders to enjoy. >> straight to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. you're tracking one more cold night ahead, right? >> a lot of places are going to get down in the teens including in the poconos. this is blue mountain, you can see the skiers and you can see they are already making snow. many of the slopes, temperatures have been cold enough all day. hardly a cloud in the sky across the area today. it's been beautiful looking but cold feeling. you can see on the satellite picture any clouds that moved way offshore and there's absolutely nothing on radar close by. so we definitely have a clear night tonight. temperatures already down in the 30s, 37 in philadelphia, that's about as warm as it's been all day. barely above the freezing point north and west. a little bit of wind on top of that. making it feel colder. as we go through the night

tonight, the top number is the temperature, the bottom is the way it's going to feel when you add in the wind. so it's going to be feel like it's 19 even in philadelphia, in the middle of the night. and of course other parts of the area even colder than that. we've got a huge warm-up coming as we head to the weekend. i'll tell you more about that and also the chance for a nor'easter next week with the seven-day in a few minutes. traffic is moving again along mlk drive after this deadly crash in fairmount park. around the scene around 9:00 this morning, police tell us a man was killed after his car crashed into another car. a woman and child in thatñi cas have minor injuries. >> new information in the murder of a woman found stuff independent a bin in allentown today. officials identified that victim as rose shanowski. she was found behind an apartment complex. autopsy results confirm she was shot several times.

>> tuesday night police were serving a warrant related to the murder when a shoot-out started and an officer was shot in the arm. the officer is expected to be okay. the suspect is in custody awaiting charges. >> new developments in a case from a deadly shooting at the new castle county court house a. judge sentenced david and his the two convicted along with their mother on conspiracy and cyber stalking. their mother la nore was sentenced to life. prosecutors say she and her children harassed david's ex-wife on line, she and david were involved in a bitter custody dispute over the couple's three children. david's father thomas shot and killed bellford and her friend as they arrive forward a hearing. this was back in 2013. thomas then traded gun fire with police before killing himself. his widow and children denied knowing that he planned to kill

bellford. >> jahlil okafor resolved his speeding case. the sixers top pick drove his mercedes 108 miles an hour across the ben franklin bridge. almost 2.5 times the bridge's posted speed limit. of 45 miles per hour. he pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a $437 fine. if you are wondering he is making around $4 million this year. >> for the first time in nearly 90 years a sitting u.s. president will set foot in cuba, the white house made that announcement today that president obama will visit the island nation coming up next month. rosemary connors has the story and reaction from the local cuban community. >> on twitter today president obama alerted the world that he would make history when he travels to cuba next month. it's the latest in a seeshz of significant moves by inadministration to restore diplomatic ties, just this week both countries reached an

agreement to allow commercial flights between the two nations. for many, the president's visit appears to be appropriate next step. >> it opens up the door to at least the cuban people that are in cuba suffering and have no chance of doing anything or having any possibilities of seeing what we see in this country. >> christian has roots in cuba, knows all too well the stories that his family's journey from the country to the land of the free. >> my family went through so much trouble to get to this country when they got here my grandfather also did too, he had to cut sugar cane for three years in order to get to this country and get a visa. >> they are neighbors and we don't talk to them. >> one council man believes it's time for a change. his mother fled cuba as a teen in hopes of a better life here. he says the people of cuba still there deserve the same. >> the cold war is over. cuba is not a threat to the united states. and i think that a lot of people

"nbc 10 news." >> we have new information about a lawsuit that bill cosby filed against a woman that accused him of sexual assault in montgomery county. according to court documents cosby is demanding andrea repay a confidential sex abuse settlement since the case was reopened. the suit alleges that she had no legal duty to cooperate because she lives in canada. the amount of the settlement has not been disclosed. cosby is due in court next month to face sexual assault charges. >> after pope francis weighed in on donald trump's plan to build a wall between mexico and the u.s. the pope made headlines with comments about the zika virus suggesting that women at risk of zika can use contraception to avoid

pregnancy, however, he stopped short on abortion saying that's evil. the world health organization has declared a global health emergency over the virus and its suspected link to birth defects. >> today a company says it's way ahead of the curve in finding a vaccine for zika. >> it says it could start testing the vaccine in humans this year. dean with more on how they are working. >> reporter: the company says it is developing the vaccine preparation to be able to sell it and it is already had success in animal testing. that is the good news people who have loved ones in countries where zika has spread. carlos is cooking up a delight in her kitchen. more than 3500 miles from her home in peru. that's where her family is. >> in a couple weeks. >> you're going in a couple weeks. >> yes. i have to do some paperwork. >> she is aware of outbreaks of

zika virus. so far not near her family. >> the townships they don't have water. they have to worry because they have to -- they have a big barrels of water they have. because they don't have water like us. >> the virus has been around since the 1940s. researchers say they are using the research lab in california and the university of pennsylvania to test its vaccine created in the last several months. >> we're the first to go into animal testing and we expect to be the first vaccine to be in human testing later this year. >> dr. kim says the company uses man made synthetic vaccine why he says testing can move faster than traditional vaccines. he says the vaccine has proven effective in mice and they are moving to another stage of animal testing before humans. all of this is good for carlos

who is watching what happens from afar. >> i'm starting to worry for children and the future. >> reporter: she does hope that a local company is the one to come up with this vaccine and hopes it will be affordable for people in those countries that are hit hard by the virus. deanna durante, "nbc 10 news." >> a woman with a history of sneaking on air planes is facing charges again. chicago police arrested mayor a lin heartman at o'hare yesterday. a judge released her on probation last year and ordered her to avoid airports. she is the due in bond court. she tried to board numerous times and succeeded at least once in 2014. boxer manny pacquiao says he respects nike's deegs cut ties with him following his remark about same-sex couples. he apologized after he told an interviewer that same-sex couples were quote worse than

anim animals. nike called the comments abhorrent. >> governor christie wants to make it ease gror victims of the blizzard get the money they need asking the small business administration to make a disaster declaration for people who live in ocean, at lan tix, cape may and cumberland counties. homeowners could borrow $40,000. businesses could get $2 million. last week the governor requested a major disaster declaration for 17 counties. >> also in new jersey lawmakers today sent governor christie a bill to make it easier to get food stamps. in 2009 new jersey waived a requirement that food stamp recipients work at least 20 hours a week because of the struggling economy. but in december the christie administration eliminated the waiver because it said the economy had improved. the new bill would begin the process of restoring that

waiver. >> the mummers are dealing with lagging donations they suspect result of controversy and now getting a boost for their mardi gras parade. today bob brady announced $8 throughout nonprofit donation to help the event. preparations are under way in manayunk where the parade is set for saturday. the mummers' new year's parade filled with charges of homophobia and racism on the part of some of the performers last month including this skit coming up where you can see a man dressed up like caitlyn jenner. mayor kenney called for changes to future parades. >> new life to an old park in philadelphia's roxborough neighborhood. a $188,000 grant to renovate the park. a senator was there to present the grant. the park is 121 years old. it has a list of much needed upgrades. >> from philadelphia to florida the big day for the phillies. a live look at citizens bank

vehicle from 2012-2014. >> airbus is making a push to do away with overhead bins, that doesn't mean an tend to carry-on luggage filing a patent for an underseat storage compartment. while the design would end the fight for the overhead space it would force passengers to leave their seat each time they wanted to access or put away items like lap tops, purses and back packs. the current patent would restrict limited leg room. we do have warmer weather in the forecast but feels like winter. we've got a cold breeze around the area, we've got a warm weekend, and we also have a nor'easter. it's going to hit part of the area next week. more on that coming up. flag not blowing as hard as it did earlier in the day. we saw gusts up to 30 miles an

hour now some places not even gusting at all. 15 miles an hour sustained at 37 makes it feel like it's 28. and it's colder than it was at this time yesterday. so it's not a balmy evening here. the temperature dropping steadily as we go through the night down into the mid-20s. and of course with some wind it will feel like it's in the teens in parts of the area. it's barely above the freezing mark in coatesville, pottstown, reading, allentown, 32 in quakertown and blue bell, 33 degrees in doylestown. 33 also in kennett square. 36 wilmington, 35 washington township, you see even with sunshine to have temperatures this low, that's pretty cold air mass that is on top of us now. woodbine at 37. the warm spot. you can see the feel likes temperature in the 20s, across much of the area except for the 13 degrees at mount pocono. no clouds to speak of in the

area. to the west we do have clouds but there really isn't much of any precipitation. we take the clouds off and then you see where the rain and snow is. there's not much. up by the canadian border. as we go into the night tonight and tomorrow, even though the clouds may increase, the chances of precipitation are pretty low. by 11:00 we're getting down close to the teens, north and west and certainly down into the teens by tomorrow morning. so yeah, the heavier coats are in store especially to start off the day. then the clouds come in and that's going to limit how much the temperatures going to rise tomorrow so. yeah, may get up to 40 or into the low 40s but just barely. so not a whole lot warmer tomorrow. do not expect the big warm-up tomorrow. especially with the cloud cover it's not necessarily going to feel warmer. and then on friday night, there could be a couple of flurries up toward the poconos, but this particular model keeps things

pretty far to the north. now, next week it's a different story. most of the models show some sort of coastal storm. one of the problems is early next week we have a full moon which means that the tides are high anyway. so we do not need an onshore wind for two or three days, that could cause more coastal flooding. even if the storm dutz not become really strong. it also look likes there may be too much warm air near the coast for this to be a pure snowstorm. north and west you have a better chance of seeing some of that snow, but it does look like this system is going to affect us for a couple of days next week. that's what we're going to focus on. clear and cold tonight, 23 for the low in philadelphia, 15 north and west. the wind diminishes but doesn't go calm. then tomorrow the clouds increase and thicken up. it's going to be a cold day, temperatures right around 40, a little bit below average for this time of the year. and then the jump.

new at 4:30 the nbc 10 investigators uncover allegations of voter fraud among pennsylvania's highest ranking voters. >> state representatives of course make the laws that the rest of us have to follow. but we learned they are not always following their own rules even when it matters most. nbc 10 investigative reporter george spencer went to harrisburg to dig through the allegations. these questions get to the heart of the democratic process. >> you guys both know it has been a tense time in harrisburg with the long delayed state budget driving deep division. but we got wind some of the close budget votes might not actually be what they seemed. two representatives not in the room when votes were cast, and yet someone pushed their vote buttons. one of them was in central america caring for her ill father. december 22nd on the floor of the state house. >> all those in favor of the motion. >> a series of budget-related votes with impacts on everything from your property taxes to your

children's schools. >> we need to give pennsylvania a budget. >> the vote in this video just beneath the camera site was separated by a margin of only one. >> yeas 100 tnays 99. >> we know some members voted more than once. >> you consider that voter fraud. >> i consider voter fraud on the floor of the house. >> darryl was among the first to notice several miss. peter says he wasn't in harrisburg that day but in western pennsylvania at hearings for his private practice. and democrat leslie acosta tells us she was out of the country in nicaragua to care for her ill father. yet we found both of their names listed among the tiny majority voting yes. representative daily says he was as surprised. >> i'm on leave, i sent the leave in. that's what i'm required to do. i should not be voting.

>> other members had apparently punched in votes for the absent members swaying the outcome in favor of supporters. >> how does a representative vote for someone else? is it as simple as pushing a button? >> everybody has a yes or a no button. >> they are pushing somebody else's button. >> i watched representative slosberg press daly's button. >> so called ghost voting is against the rules set by these rule makers. quote, no member shall be per t permitted to vote and have his or her vote record and the roll call unless present in the hall of the house during the roll call vote. but when we come through every voting record for december 22, we discovered accoosta and dail listed voting five times each before they were finally marked on leave for the last vote of the day shortly after 4:00. barry coughman of common cause says ghost voting can change outcomes and fuel public

cynicism. >> what this comes down to is government integrity and the ability for the public to hold officials accountable. >> to hold those officials accountable now the nbc 10 investigators contacted allentown representative mike slosberg who metcalf allegedly saw. >> did you press another representative's vote button. >> yes. >> is that standard? >> i would say it's something that happens in the house from time to time. >> he says house votes happen so quickly members sometimes vote for an absent neighbor who is in the restroom or away from their floor desk. he insists a miscommunication left him thinking that representative daily was nearby. >> i think that it is safe to say this is something that happens from time to time in the house from both parties. calling it voter sfraud a serious over exaggeration without question. >> how much does this happen? >> i would say it does not happen very often. >> the is spokesman for the house democratic kau sis says members are supposed to put themselves on leave when they are away.

representative daly did that but the request never made it on the record until the final vote. representative acosta admits she forgot to submit leave request meaning other members have to notice and speak up as metcalf did that day. he says each pennsylvania constituent ultimately suffers from the mistakes. >> that person's vote that was their vote was cast by somebody that they don't elect, that they most likely don't even know. >> so metcalf has called on the house ethics committee investigate all of this but that committee will neither confirm nor deny that it's investigating, for now it is still a mystery who pushed the voting button of representative acosta. we asked her she declined on camera interview, she did not want to get anybody in trouble as part of this. >> we don't know who is pushing the button for her. >> it's hard to tell. no actual record. >> so we heard the officials in the story say they don't know how much this happens. the gentleman said not very

often. is there any way to prevent it? >> preventing it is one question we asked both parties about. they could not specifically answer technology might be part of the answer, like i.d. badges they have to swipe before they vote. then also a change to the rules altogether, simply allowing proxies so when someone is away, we know who is voting on their behalf. >> we use i.d. badges to get in our building. >> that's actually often how it's done down in washington, d.c. that simple technology change could change everything on the house floor. >> we'll see if those are put into place. >> we'll be watching. absolutely. >> thank you. credit card thieves are getting more creative. gas stations in our area are getting alerts about a new way criminals are accessing your card and possibly your money. thieves are buying master keys for gas pumps or picking the locks to get inside. then they attach a small device called a skimmer that reads your credit card information. skimmers have long been found on

atm's, we watched as the bureau of weights and measures look forward them on three gas stations along street road. >> this is really a growing area for credit card theft. it's really easy to install them. technology has come a long way. >> the good news is these inspectors haven't found skimmers inside the gas pumps yet but consumer advocates want you to stay on guard and watch your account. >> dental care going on the road in delaware. >> the new mobile option will will soon have. >> many parents worst nightmare. >> i didn't have time to think about what a horrible situation it was. >> next how police and paramedics worked together to save this baby after he stopped breathing.

the 38-foot mobile clinic will be unveiled tomorrow during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. the clinic has two treatment rooms and will be staffed full time by a dentist and hygienist. patients can get anything from a teeth cleaning to root canals and dentures. the mobile clinic will be run by the nonprofit connections community support programs. >> a new study recommends vitamin d supplements for children who breast feed beyond the first birthday. that's because children who are breast fed, say that, because breast milk does not contain adequate amounts of vitamin d that may lead to a bone disease. parents should give supplements even if their children are eating solid foods along with breast feeding. >> teething can make babies miserable but a new study shows that rarely makes them sick. researchers found some teething infants have a slight rise in temperature but that teething usually doesn't cause a full-fledged fever or any other

philadelphia. >> today some of the wring ling brother circus fans met the biggest attractions, the elepha elephants. this is happening at the wells fargo center ahead of tomorrow's opening act. a select group got to see the elephants chowing down on the veggies and soft pretzels. a trunkful. this is going to be the final appearance for these elephants at a show because they are heading south to their permanent home at the ringling brothers center in florida. we have some big changes coming over the next several days, yes, it's cold now, it's going to be cold tonight. and cold tomorrow. but the weekend a different story. and way different than what we saw this past weekend. a lot warmer. and a storm next week probably some sort of nor'easter and could be some rain and snow and

coastal issues. more on that in a minute. we've got a lot of sunshine out there. all day, 37 degrees even with the sunshine. the temperature hasn't gotten to 40. the wind north-northwest at 15 miles an hour, feel like the 20s. so we're barely above the freezing point. in reading, pottstown, allentown. mount holly and trenton, 35. 34 in glassboro. 36 in atlantic city. millville and dover, some of the warm places along with the 37 in philadelphia. not too many gusts now. some gusts of 20 to 25 miles an hour, the wind will be diminishing during the night tonight. and it's not going to be that cold as far as the wind chill is concerned. you can see by tomorrow morning, 25 degrees, feel like 21. so that really implies there is little wind by tomorrow morning. a lot of sunshine today. compared to what we saw

yesterday. but there are clouds back to the west, not much in the way of precipitation, though, a couple showers in wisconsin and that is it. temperatures tonight go down in the teens. in many parts of the area, north and west of philadelphia, so it's going to be a cold start to the day. you see all of the clouds coming in but generally dry. there could be a few little snowflakes coming across the poconos during the afternoon. that's about it. and then we get more sunshine for saturday and that puts the temperature way up. this is a storm we're talking about for next week. generally in the tuesday to thursday period, the main concern is the fact that it's near the full moon and so the tides are high to begin with, and then if you start getting a couple days worth of onshore winds you got some issues with coastal flooding. but right now the track is fairly close to the coast. so, if it does take a track close to the coast, the odds

favor more rain, if it goes out a little bit, it will be a better chance of at least a change to snow. but there's not going to be much cold air to start with, and so it's really hard to get an all snowstorm at this time of the year without the cold air to start with. clear and cold tonight, 23 for a low in philadelphia, 15 north and west. that's pretty cold. then tomorrow it doesn't warm up a lot. not much wind but barely above 40 degree we get a little bit of sunshine. seven-day forecast, we're going to get the sunshine saturday, 60 degrees. and then in the 50s on sunday despite the increased clouds, showers late in the day or night. it starts to get cooler next week, setting us up for the nor'easter that's going to bring rain and possibly some snow to the area. >> it took a team effort to save a baby after he suddenly stopped breathing. >> coming up, how the baby's mom

>> jackie and jim, the police officer who rushed to that family's house told me this was actually the first time he had ever performed cpr on an infant. >> 911. >> when dispatcher katy answered the 911 call it immediately became clear a very young life was on the line. >> a friend called for help february 10 while the mother of 2-month-old brian performed cpr on the lifeless infant at the family's home. >> i was focused on trying to do what i needed to do and get the breaths in him. >> for me personally infants and elderly people are the hardest. >> stay on the phone with me and keep me updated. >> she also dispatched police officer kevin jorgensen. >> i arrived to see the mother

next to the child. my training took over. i began cpr. >> emt's and paramedics were there as well. he says their team effort paid off, when the baby started breathing. >> he opened his eyes, shut them again, it was an amazing experience. i'm a father of three girls, for me it was very touching and holds a special place in my heart. >> we're so thankful. i could hear them talking to my son, i kind of encouraging him. >> the tiny boy who had a pre-existing medical condition is now recovering at st. christopher's hospital for children in philadelphia. >> anybody can come and perform cpr but to do it in that situation with a child in front of you and be so kind hearted i think is really important. >> turns out the officer and other department members just received updated medical training for first responders within the past couple weeks, training he says was very
