complete coverage after this newscast. now to the center city chaos during lunch time. buses collided ended up on the curb along with cars, people just missed getting run over. lauren mayk is joining us from 15th and jfk. >> how is that traffic situation now? earlier it was gridlock. >> reporter: yeah, well, look at this. it is smooth sailing right here right now. all these lanes are open and that is a good thing because this can be a very busy hour as people try to head home. this road takes you down to 30th street station to the schuylkill so it is important. earlier today all eyes were on that cornerback there behind me where things came to a crashing halt. the shock of this impact came at lunch time in center city. >> sounded like an explosion. >> reporter: disrupting a thursday that for those here would no longer be typical. >> felt like an earthquake. but it was just so much rumbli g

rumbling. >> at the news stand madish heard what happened. >> i was a little scared because it's like a big noise. >> it happened at the corner, when a bus, a taxi and another vehicle crashed up on this curb. witnesses describe a chain reaction that involved a septa bus, then a school bus. >> i think the cab hit the bus and then the bus is trying to stop and the cab kept on and i think the cab go and hit, ran into the other bus. >> police are trying to piece together what led to the crashes that injured more than a dozen and startled more. >> it went through and the driver sat there and smoke started, everyone started screaming to turn off the engine (. >> the rush was to make sure everyone was okay. >> worried it might submit. >> definitely. i was scared. thank god. it could be me. >> reporter: feel lucky.

>> yeah. >> reporter: a lot of folks were worried that there were kids on that school bus. fortunately, there were not. people really jumped in to help there. one thing that's important to note tonight, look behind me, the septa station you see that is blocked off, that is the still closed tonight. it was damaged in all of this. i talked to one woman who tells me she is really glad it was there because it stopped that bus and those cars from crashing through that window where she was. live in center city, lauren mayk, "nbc 10 news." sky force 10 over breaking news in mayfair. all of the white smoke there, crews are on the scene of this warehouse fire. it is along edmund street. the fire is burning on a loading dock we're told. at this point we don't believe there are injuries, if that changes we'll let you know. we'll keep an eye on this situation again a warehouse fire in mayfair.

a cold night if you're heading out for dinner. it is also windy. a warm-up is around the corner. >> can't wait for that. nbc 10 glenn "hurricane" schwartz with his first alert forecast. >> a long way to go until we call the weather warm. it's a chilly day and chilly night. we are getting closer to baseball season. but it's not exactly feeling like that. the flag is blowing pretty hard as the wind continues, and the wind chill continues. we've got a lot more sunshine today than yesterday. but there are clouds back to the west. not much precipitation but some clouds that will be coming in during the day tomorrow. the temperature now, below the freezing mark, pottstown, allentown, reading, wilmington, atlantic city, almost every place is close to the freezing mark or below. and the wind chill the way it feels in the low to mid-20s. so as we go through the evening hours, the wind will diminish but the temperatures going down as well. we'll tell you how much it's

going to go up and it's going to go up a lot. plus a nor'easter next week. we're following breaking news in wilmington. a woman stabbed and killed there. >> delaware bureau reporter tim furlong joining us live. what have you learned in the past 30 minutes? >> reporter: the crime scene unit is pulling up to do their investigation. inside that house on the 2300 block they were originally called for a serious assault. they got here they found out that a woman was not able to be saved, a woman in her 50s was stabbed to death in what police tell me is a domestic incident. again detectives on scene now. they tell me they have a person of interest but they don't have a suspect in custody. we're trying to get an identity of the woman who was killed. tune in at 11:00 for the latest. mother and son busted in an alleged real estate scam. tonight camden county prosecutors say there are more

victims out there. lisa smith and christian edmunds accused of leasing or selling properties that they had no right to sell or rent. smith had a license revoked for life six years ago. detectives say they found more than 20 potential victims in camden, gloucester and burlington county, several of them forked over tens of thousands of dollars. >> a new jersey prosecutor is leaving office amid scrutiny of his off's investigation into the death of a powerful couple. governor christie said prosecutor jeffrey soriano will be replaced by a federal prosecutor. and this comes after a powerful group yesterday called for the reopening of the investigation into the deaths of john and joyce sheridan. his office determined that john sheridan killed his wife, then himself in 2014. the couple's sons accuse the prosecutor of jumping to conclusio conclusions. >> reducing the number of inmates in pennsylvania's prisons govern tom wolf

announced a study looking to cut crime and also cut the prison population. topics include how to set bail, and alternatives for sending someone to prison. traffic is moving again along mlk drive after a deadly crash. sky force 10 was over the scene this morning. a man was killed after his car crossed the yellow lines and crashed head on into another car. a woman and child in that vehicle have minor injuries. president obama is headed to cuba, the white house announcing today that he will travel to latin america next month. in 2014 cuban leader raul castro and president obama announced the two countries would begin to normalize relations. it's been 50 years since diplomatic ties were broken. the last sitting president to visit was calvin coolidge. squl u.s. and brazilian researchers forming a pact to fight zika virus. one local company says it's way ahead and already testing a

vaccine to ward off the virus. the company says it's develop advocacy seen that's proven effective in lab animal testing. it plans to move to human testing by year's end. the news comes as a relief to local peruvian natives. >> i have to go to lima. i have to do some paperwork. yes, i have to. if i have vaccination. >> that's okay. >> i have to. >> santiago says the area she will be visiting has not had reported cases but applauds the efforts to get a vaccine to market quickly. >> scaring children straight. children in philadelphia got a life lesson today, the district attorney seth williams told fifth-graders about the importance of staying in school, they said kids that don't finish high school are eight times more likely to go to prison. another staggering figure here,

an update on breaking news a warehouse fire on edmund straet in mayfair. we're now hearing there is a 30 minute delay on septa's trenton regional rail as our desk makes calls for us, fire is burning on a loading dock. we know of no injuries but we'll keep an eye on this fire in mayfair. a montgomery county woman's trip to whole foods left her with an empty stomach and wallet. two men in this video took the purse from the woman's cart on tuesday in abington township. they went to two stores and used her credit cards to buy gift cards. >> take a look at this baby.

this 2-year-old boy actually stopped breathing so his mother started cpr while her friend called 911. >> that was the start of a team effort to bring back this guy, little brian. tonight we hear from those who saved him. ted greenberg reports. >> i was focused on trying to do what i needed to do. >> reporter: for alley, that meant performing cpr on her 2-month-old son after the tiny boy stopped breathing. a friend called for help february 10th from the family's home, 911 dispatcher katy lawrence answered the call. >> for me, personally, infants and elderly people are definitely the hardest. >> reporter: she dispatched police officer kevin. >> i arrived to see the mother kneeling next to the child.

my training took over. i took control of the baby, began cpr. >> emts and paramedics were there. the baby started breathing. >> he opened his eyes, shut them again. it was an amazing experience. i'm a father of three girls, for me it was very touching and holds a special place. >> the tiny boy who had a pre-existing medical condition is now recovering at st. christopher's hospital for children in philadelphia. >> we're so thankful. >> the officer says this was the first time he had ever performed cpr on an infant and turns out he and other department members just received updated medical training for first responders within the past couple weeks. >> it definitely was a great refresher for me in my professional career and helpful with our saving of this infant. >> to see them act for your son

and know they are invested in it, i think that is what i took away from it so much. >> ted greenberg, "nbc 10 news." >> that face. such a great ending. >> the mummers are dealing with lagging donations, they suspect are the result of recent controversy, now they are getting a boost for their upcoming mardi gras parade. u.s. representative bob brady announced $8,000 non-profit donation to help the event go forward. preparations are under way in manty yunk where the parade is set for saturday. the new year's parade was filled with charges of homophobia and racism on the part of some of the performers including this skit where a man dressed up like caitlyn jenner. mayor jim kenney called for changes to future parades. >> pot holes are cropping up as a problem across the region. now a crew here on route 611 over the pennsylvania turnpike today. penndot says this week's heavy rains followed by large temperature fluctuations, it all

means more pot holes ahead. >> especially older pavements where you have cracks, water can penetrate. it's going to freeze and thaw that creates gaps under the pavement. >> aaa's car care center says it's starting to see more tire and rim damage from pot holes. check out this sunset. a beautiful night. the view from our camera in cape may county. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now, a cold night ahead. >> yes, very cold. and we've got below normal temperatures for tonight and into tomorrow. but then things change. yes, the cold night, some places going to have wind chills in the teens. but a warm weekend. it could even get up to 60 degrees in parts of the area. a nor'easter looks like it's going to be affecting the area next week with the combination of rain and snow depending where you are. we've had a lot of sunshine today. perfectly clear sky now.

34 degrees, the wind 16, gusts in 25 miles an hour. it diminished a little bit an hour ago now back up. below freezing already in pottstown and allentown. reading. 31, 32 degrees in mount holly. and as we head closer to the shore, just about as cold. wilmington, atlantic city, 32 in dover. and millville and in glassboro. as we go through the night tonight, we're going to be seeing enough wind to make it feel colder, so by 11:00, 27 degrees it will feel like 20 in philadelphia. but by 7:00 a.m. there is no wind left, so the temperature is 25. and the wind chill is 25. we've had a lot of sunshine today especially compared to yesterday. the clouds are not that far off. it's just clouds. we're not seeing much precipitation. couple little blips in wisconsin, that's about it.

so as that system moves across during the day tomorrow the chance of precipitation is pretty low. we start off the day very cold. it's going to be in the teens, then the clouds come in during the day tomorrow. also benefit from being warmer than it would be if we had another day with sunshine. could be some light snow showers across the poconos. and then yeah, temperature just does not go up a lot. as we go into tomorrow afternoon. but it does go up a lot over the weekend, then we watch to the south for next week. we're talking about in the tuesday to thursday time period, a nor'easter developing, you see the winds coming onshore. we have a full moon early next week so. the tides will be high. and so the stronger the storm is, the more problems will be at the coast. there is a fair amount of arm air at the start. a better chance of snow inland, the higher elevations as we go into wednesday and thursday.

so, of course it all depends on the track, more inland track would create more rain. offshore track would give us a better chance of some snow. especially at the end of the storm. clear and cold, 23 for a low in philadelphia. 15 north and west. during the day tomorrow we've got a lot of clouds developing, and high temperature near 40. maybe snow shower up in the poconos, and look at saturday, no snow showers. too warm for that. 60 degrees, some late showers sunday or sunday night. and then colder air comes in next week. with that nor'easter, affecting us tuesday and into wednesday. >> all right, hurricane, i'm liking saturday. i'm john clark. coming upg first day for phillies workout. aaron nola talks about possibly being the opening day starter and president obama honors a former flyers great.
