>> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 6:00, a taste of spring, from rittenhouse square to fair mnlt park to roxboro, all across the philadelphia region, people are taking advantage of this break from winter to try to soak up the sun. it's warm today, but folks aren't flocking to the shore yet. still a day at the beach in cape may doesn't feel so far away. it's a taste of what's to come. it sure felt like spring today, as many parts of our area saw temperatures in the 60s. we have team coverage of the warm weather, beginning with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist michelle grossman. michelle, the big question, how long before it starts to feel like winter again?

>> we have two more days of the nice, mild air so beautiful before the winter-like weather returns on wednesday, we have a beautiful sunset right now. we had a beautiful day, temperatures in the mid 60s, it felt like april. here's a live look from our camera overlooking center city. we've fallen back into the 50s, but still so mild. 59 in philadelphia, 59 in allentown and 58 in dover and 48 in wildwood. we had a warm breeze all day long, helping to bring in the warm air. we're seeing winds from 5-15 miles per hour. we'll keep the breeze in place tonight. tonight, enjoy it, we'll be breezy but mild. by 9:00, 51 and still in the upper 40s by 11:00. that's still above normal. our normal high for this time of year. we'll talk more about the mild air monday and tuesday and winter returns by wednesday. we continue our team coverage with nbc 10's andrea

arctic cold and there was no one walking around. today it's 60 and beautiful. >> in doylestown. retro t-shirts are on display outside in hopes of getting more customers in the door and down the street, the waffles and eye cream combo is a hit. >> usually in the winter season it's steady or slow. but this weekend it's been really busy. >> it's a tease to hang on as spring is around the corner. enjoy it. >> i've eaten some clams and muscles, they're amazing. >> because colder days are ahead. >> it looks like a very fun day so far. >> the brewery sold 350 tickets before today's event and they expected about 600 people to show up today. reporting live from perkcy. i'm andrea cline thomas. they're ice skating at the blue cross river rink. today's the final day of river fest at penn's landing.

a lot of people took a final lap around the rink. the ice seemed to hold up well to the sprink-like temperatures if you want to head out, there's a little time left. the river rink is open until 11:00 p.m. tonight. the ben franklin parkway was packed with people enjoying today's unseasonable weather we found a couple visiting from new hampshire who were happy to leave the bitter cold new england weather behind. >> it just absolutely is freezing up there. and grass, we see grass down here. it's amazing. it's really cool. >> we know all good things must come to an end as our chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz writes on his blog -- winter is not over yet. storm could develop a little bit later on this week. visit nbc10.com to read his full blog post and you can also get weather updates there any time. tonight, a man is recovering after he was attacked during a home invasion in west philadelphia. police say the man was inside

his apartment on 47th and chestnut streets when three men busted through his front door around 2:00 a.m. the men tied up the victim and attacked him before making off with two cell phones and a set of car keys. the victim went to the hospital to be treated for cuts on his face. and also in west philadelphia, police are looking for the person who stabbed two men this morning at a bar, at the studio 7 bar on the corner of 60th and spruce streets. the victims took themselves to the hospital and both men are expected to be okay. philly police are busy this weekend in the city's rhawnhurst neighborhood. one at this store on solly avenue and a second a mile away at the 7-eleven on copman avenue. initial reports say the rob anywhere both cases used a crow bar to threaten the clerk no word if the incidents are connected. a driver is in the hospital after a single-car crash in philadelphia's an dora neighborhood today this was the

scene near bell's mills road near forbidden drive it sent the suv on to its side and shattered the weekend. police say a driver may have struck a rock near the side of the road. we have new information on that deadly police shooting in virginia. an army staff sergeant assigned from the pentagon is under arrest for the murder of two people, including a police officer who was working her first day on the job. active sergeant ronald hamilton reportedly opened fire on prince william county police officers who were responding to a domestic disturbance call. three officers were critically wounded, rookie officer ashley guindon died from her injuries. saturday was her first official day on the job. >> she clearly had a passion to serve others? a way that went beyond herself. >> investigators eventually found hamilton's 29-year-old wife, crystal hamilton, shot to death inside the home.

the hamilton's 11-year-old son was also inside the house, but he was not hurt. now to decision 2016. and more controversy on the campaign trail. run front-runner donald trump is drawing criticism for refusing to announce an implicit endorsement from former klu klux klan leader david duke when asked about it on cnn this morning, trump said he didn't know anything about duke. trump is getting backlash for recently retweeting a coat of benito mussolini, the 20th century fascist dictator of italy. it's better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep. >> mussolini, it's a very good quote. it's a very interesting quote and i know, i saw it. i saw what, i know who said it. but what difference does it make whether it's mussolini or somebody else. it's a very interesting quote. >> the website gawker is now taking credit for planting the mussolini tweet on donald trump's feed to see if they

could get him to retweet it. according to the new nbc news/"wall street journal"/marist poll, trump is leading the poll in georgia and tennessee. ahead of super tuesday, but ted cruz say head in texas. the poll was conducted before thursday's very heated republican debate. the same poll shows hillary clinton leading senator bernie sanders by a near 2-1 margen in three key super tuesday states. clinton's biggest lead is in georgia, with 64% of likely democratic primary voters as compared to 30% for sanders. she has similar leads in tennessee and texas. sanders addressed his loss in south carolina yesterday, this morning on "meet the press." take a listen. >> well we got decimated, that's what happened. among older african-americans, it was pathetic. from our perspective. >> sanders went on to say this his campaign is looking to the future, not looking back.

it's the big night for the stars, the silver screen, the academy awards, but not everybody will be watching. coming up, the protest planned in hollywood ahead of tonight's show, a south jersey police department is one step closer to equipping its officers with body cameras. how much it's going to cost and how soon they could be wearing them.

it's hollywood's biggest night. but this year's academy awards are embroiled in some controversy. #oscarssowhite protests are planned ahead of the show and some big names like will smith and jada pinkett smith, along with spike lee are boycotting. it comes after the second straight year of all-white acting nominees. host chris rock is expected to take on the academy's diversity issues. but reportedly won't let it dominate the show.

sylvester stallone could walk away with his first oscar tonight. nominated for best supporting actor in "creed" filmed in locations all over philadelphia. stallone revives the role of rocky balance bow yaw 40 years after he first played the part and was nominated for best actor. a beautiful day for a bike ride, you got to have the wheels. next, the efforts of these volunteers to get kids in philadelphia moving. michelle? >> a good day to get moving today. temperatures into the 60s, a little taste of spring. but we're tracking some winter-like weather, rain and snow possible for some. we'll look at that in your seven-day, coming up.

tonight police in tom's river are looking for this man, he's wanted for burglary, investigators say he broke into a house on wyoming drive in ocean county, while a family with children were asleep inside. the suspect made off with two

purses before leaving. police in hamilton township are one step closer to having body cameras. this week township council will officially receive the request for funding on a five-year contract for the cameras. and wore cloud-based storage services. it would cost $194,000 for the first year. if the plan is approved, the cameras would be deployed in the first half of this year. today family and friends gathered to remember and to say good-bye to cara mccollum, a former miss new jersey. mccollum was laid to rest in her home town in arkansas, a memorial is scheduled for next month in ocean city, new jersey. she died last monday following a car crash in bad weather. the 24-year-old was a news anchor at smj today based in millville, cumberland county and was the girlfriend of nbc 10's keith jones. great day to get the community together. dozens of volunteers came together today to build bikes for children in philadelphia. the second annual cadence kmint

bike build was held in center city this morning. the 100 new bikes will go to several bicycle advocacy groups all around the city. the bikes will be used to help teach kids healthy habits and leadership skills. well we did have a pretty spectacular day weatherwise, it was perfect. we had sunshine, temperatures into the 60s, a little breeze, but that helped to bump temperatures up. we're going to have a pretty nice night before some things change monday morning. we're tracking the chance of some showers, light showers, not everyone will see them. but some will. and then we're tracking more mild air monday, also tuesday, before bigger changes come in on wednesday. and then even bigger changes come in thursday night into friday. right now though, still 59 degrees in philadelphia. winds out of the south-southwest at 10 miles per hour. 16 degrees warmer compared to this time yesterday. you're feeling the change. to the north and west, temperatures in the upper 50s. 59 in philadelphia. south and east we're sitting in

the 50s, 56 in glassboro, 55 in dover and 55 in millville. temperatures compared to 24 hours ago, 16 degrees warmer in philadelphia. 21 degrees warmer in allentown and nine degrees warmer in atlantic city. we have the southwesterly flow helping to bring the warm air in. we'll have a southwesterly flow monday and tuesday, we're seeing winds gust up to 23 miles per hour in allentown and we'll have the breeze on monday, 24 miles per hour in mount who willy. the sun is setting and we'll see a mostly clear night before clouds come in early monday. and they're out of here monday afternoon. we're dry for now on radar, hardly any clouds out there mostly clear tonight and then changes come in with fuel-efficient weather. i stopped this clock around 8:00, getting back to school and work you see the clouds coming in with a front that's going to pass through. also some showers. again not everyone will see them. by 10:00 through philadelphia,
