starts now. nbc 10 news at 11 begins as penndot crews get ready for the next round of snow to the delaware valley, salt trucks in south philly getting ready for a wet and snowy morning commute. >> it's snowing in some parts of south jersey right now. nbc 10 caught some light flurries falling in gloucester county just a few minutes ago. here is a live look down the shore at cape may. you can see the snow collecting on the beach there. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosen field. >> i'm jack queline london. >> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena is outside.

>> you can see it coming down, light snowfall. it didn't start too long ago, but it's really covering most of the area. now it's sticking to my jacket, but if you look at the pavement beneath me it's actually melting. so we're just seeing wet spots here. we're not seeing anything stick to the pavements. but in some areas overnight tonight, we could see it stick if it comes down more moderately. here is a look at the radar. you see the snow in south jersey, in delaware through the philadelphia area. we'll zoom in for you. delaware and south jersey including cape may where we just showed you the light video, where we're seeing light snow. through the philadelphia area and even points north and west into the lehigh valley. so this whole system is going to move through overnight and into early tomorrow. look at the temperatures, though. we're right around freezing across the area. this is going to be a little bit of a problem for some of the snow to be accumulating. we don't have extremely cold temperatures but 8:00 a.m., some of this will taper off, but we'll see some snow lingering. coming up, we'll look at the

>> this is part of the hysteria of the people who oppose my trump endorsement. they want to read anything into it that can be negative. that's fine. i understand that. i could care less. >> christie also says he's not at all surprised or worried that more than a handful of newspaper editorials this week called for him to resign as governor. he says it will not burn his reputation with new jersey taxpayers. tonight bill clinton is out stumping for his wife in louisiana, the former president rallied the crowd at a get out the vote rally in baton rouge. he pushed hill clinton's platform on making college more affordable and lowering the u.s. prison population. meantime, clinton's democratic competition bernie sanders rallied in kansas. sanders says a few thousand people were trying to get into the fairgrounds. the kansas caucus is on saturday. we're following two breaking news stories in philadelphia tonight. the first in south philly where

a woman was stabbed to death here outside a vietnamese restaurant on washington avenue near fifth street a little more than an hour ago. police have not yet arrested anyone for the stabbing. and in west oak lane a man was still holding his takeout food when he was shot to death around 8:30. the 39-year-old was shot once in the head in the 7500 block of mayland road. detectives are knocking on doors hoping to find anyone who saw or heard anything that could lead them to the gunman. and tonight we're learning more about five co-workers who died in a fiery crash on state route 222 yesterday. >> they were carpooling home when tragedy struck. nbc 10's andrea klein thomas shows us how the victims are being remembered. >> i was one of the first ones on the scene. and the very first thing i did was i said a prayer. >> reporter: a subaru quickly engulfed in flames after veering into oncoming traffic head-on.

the driver of the tractor trailtrai trailer survived but five co-workers in the car were pronounced dead on the scene. this was a rare day. they didn't usually carpool together. >> a lot of people that work here actually witnessed the accident itself because everybody was on their way home. >> reporter: it's what added to the heaviness felt at quality packing specialists international where work hes spent the day remembering his colleagues. >> he would do anything for you. >> reporter: most were leaders on the manufacturing and production lines but more importantly -- >> good, good woman. >> good mother? >> good mother. >> wife? >> wife. >> reporter: they were husbands and wives, fathers and mothers who made an impact on the close-knit workplace. how have you been able to deal with it? >> just leaning on each other. >> reporter: have you ever had anything like this? reality is just setting in. and sometimes there just aren't enough words to explain the grief. friends say the driver did not

have any known medical issues and the car did not have any mechanical problems. a gofundme page has been established to help all five of their co-workers. for more information on that, go to nbc10.com. philadelphia police believe a woman may have been drunk when she crashed into an officer's car in northeast philadelphia. this was around 8:00 tonight. the officer was not in the car at the time so he wasn't hurt. the woman was take ton the hospital. new at 11, police in ocean county, new jersey, are on the hunt for a man who they say confronted two middle schoolers at their bus stops, robbing one, assaulting the other. here is a picture of that suspect captured by a nearby surveillance camera. investigators say the man stole a phone from one of the victims and punched the other several times. there's a sketch of that man. both incidents happened

yesterday morning in manchester township. if you know who this man is, call police. a former philadelphia teacher caught up in a cheating scandal has been acquitted of the most serious charges against her. a jury found ari sloan not guilty of tampering with public records or forgery. sloan took part in a cheating operation, they say, to raise test scores at the school. two others pleaded guilty last week. philadelphia mayor laid out today his first budget proposal, the $4.17 million spending plan includes several new initiatives, among them a tax on sugar wri drinks 57bd more money for police body cameras. the bubblingette is budget is in the city council hands. now he's talking about expanding pre-k to those who don't have access. he talked about the proposed program, it would cost $256 million, including state and federal funding.

the mayor hopes to use his soda tax proposal to cover manufacture the cost. kenny says the program would open 25,000 quality pre-k seats in philadelphia over the next five years. a kensington woman is facing child endangerment charges after she was found passed out with her car with her toddler in the back seat. we'll show you cell phone video of the woman slumped across the wheel tuesday evening. look to the left of your screen. maybe you can see a child right there in his car seat. police say the woman named heaven lie richson took off leaving her toddler behind. she was found highing behind a truck and was arrested. the child wasn't hurt. tonight two atlantic county towns are teaming up for keeping -- the mayor and council of hammington met up with their counterparts in fullsome. they're trying to stop south jersey gas from moving its headquarters from western

a family feud could jeopardize a future shop. >> the family behind tony luke's battling out in court. on the one side is tony louis don yoe and his son nick. and on the other side tony jr. tony sr. and nick run the day-to-day operations. the issue centers in part around the food being served at those franchises. each side is suing the other. no more feeding birds in wilmingto wilmington. city council voted on a ban because someone has been leaving loafs of bread for the birds in cool springs park. >> when you look at the pictures of loafs of bread everywhere, it just adds to more problems besides the birds. now you could have the rodents and everything else.

down here, pretty good shot of that snowfall and much of the area right now is seeing the snow falling. will keep seeing it fall overnight tonight. so snow overnight and into the morning commute for some of you tomorrow. not everyone. so some morning snow will be lingering for part of the area. but after all this leaves we're looking at 70 degrees next week. we really just have to get through tonight and early tomorrow. then we'll see a very nice warming trend in the forecast. i'll show you that in a second. right now temperatures are very important, 31 in pottstown, 32 philadelphia, 31 wilmington and millville. a lot of areas are just right around freezing but a couple of spots are a couple degrees below freezing. now, this is important as far as the snow sticking to pavement. it is the wet type of snow, though, so a lot of surfaces we're seeing the snow melting, not so much grassy surfaces but paved surfaces definitely. a live look at the radar, most of the area here is covered in snow right now. it's mostly on the lighter side. another thing we look at to determine who's seeing maybe the

heaviest snow is visibility. so here's the visibility for south jersey and delaware, three-quarter mile visibility in millville, snow coming down especially in dover the visibility has been dropping there significantly. a half mile visibility there, 1 1/2 in coatesville. philadelphia is dropping down to 1 1/2 mile visibility. now, here is the snow cover again we're mostly seeing some of the heaviest amounts in sussex county, millsboro, this stretches up into south jersey through the philadelphia area and points north and west. so for tonight, the overnight hours, the heaviest snow is going to stay to our south, but we'll keep seeing a pretty steady snowfall overnight, fairly light, though. here is a look at future weather. overnight some of this breaks up for the morning commute. i think we'll have light snow showers lingering by 6:00 a.m., especially in new jersey and delaware. by 8:00, 9:00, we could still see a band of snow lingering in south jersey and delaware but the temperatures will be marginal.

then we go into friday afternoon and we really start to see a lot of this clear out. as far as the snowfall is concerned, marginal temperatures, most of the snow will be melting on roadways for the morning commute. we could still see slippery spots and the thing to watch really will be low visibility. so we'll be checking on any school delays for the area, too. now, in general, we're going to see about 1 to 2 inches across some of the heavier amounts, but up to about an inch through the philadelphia area. other than that, the light snow overnight could be providing some slick spots, 31 for the low in philadelphia, 21 north and west. tomorrow, snow in the morning but then really clearing up quickly for the area. we could see a few light showers by early sunday morning, temperatures in the mid-40s. next week, big warm-up, 72 on wednesday. stay tuned. we'll be right back. #
